Chapter six:
They start with working on sneaking around. They show the kids how to look out for anything that will make noise, and even how to step lightly to make as little noise as possible.
Matt starts to feel bored as this doesn't feel helpful to what they are looking for to figure out things of this world. He kind of wishes that he could be playing his games but he doesn't have any so he just watches with boredom. He perks up a little when they all move to be a group. He thinks that now things will start to become more interesting.
"Okay. Lets start our group training with changing shape." One of the adults tells the children even causing Matt to perk up.
Matt watches with great interest as the kids wait for further instructions.
"Try to change into the form that I take. Remember to focus on the form that you want. When hunting for food it is best to make sure you are out of sight before changing form. A good hiding place where you won't be noticed changing. Will yourself to take the form that is in your mind. Let your magic inside do a good amount of the work." The one adult then turns into a child sized male human with brown hair, a blue t-shirt, black shorts, and sandals. "Okay. Now you. Show me the best that you can do. Try to copy me exactly if you can. When around humans, especially those who know the form you are taking they are able to notice even different colored eyes. So you need to be as precise as possible. Don't feel bad if you don't get it fully right just yet. You're still learning. Just do your best and practice." Even his voice has changed to a male child's voice.
Matt watches as the children focus on the form they are asked to take.
The first child changes with a dim magic light zipping downwards from the child's head down to his feet. He becomes a close copy of the target look. He has the same hairstyle before he had changed.
"Pretty close." The adult nods to this. "Practice a little more. You need to make sure your own hairstyle doesn't shine through the disguise." He turns to look to the other kids as they change too.
The others also get pretty close with a few things like one having the wrong shade of clothes, one having a little too long hair, and a few other minor mistakes.
"Very good for your ages." The adult changes back to his winged form. "We'll practice that a little more before we talk about how to feed as a changeling."
The children change back to normal as well.
"Quick question. To see how much they know." Matt speaks up so badly wanting to know and remembers that he has to be careful. He looks to the kids as all those there in the training area turn to look to him. "What do we feed on? And how do we get it?"
"Oh!" The child that had changed first jumps in slight excitement. "We eat energy. Energy drained from humans. They have the best energy for our species to eat. Even though we tend to end up killing them. So we have to be careful about how much we eat at a time so we don't kill every human."
"Very good." The adult that has so far been instructing them nods. "And why is it best that we kill them when draining them?"
A female kid steps forward slightly wrapping her Canadian goose wings around herself shyly. "Because if we don't there is a chance that humans could find a way to track us. Because we are momentarily linked with the human if we drain them but not enough to kill them."
"That is right." The adults look proud at this.
The kids look to Matt for approval as well.
Matt nods his head knowing to go with it despite that it sounds a little horrifying to him. "Seems like your training is going pretty well." He mentions and nods to the adults to go ahead to continue the training.
In the orphanage Roger heads over to the three who turn to him. "Please. Stay with us until we can figure out how to send you back your own bodies." He pleads with them as they listen to what he has to say. "We will take care of you like any of our other orphans here. While doing our best to get you all back to your home world. How things are in your own world doesn't have to affect your lives here while you are here. We do not truly understand your world, let alone your circumstances there, yes. However we still do our best to make sure that your stay is well while you are here. So please stay with us."
Mello and Matt turn to look to Near as they await for him to make the decision on this.
Near looks thoughtful about this for a few moments before nodding. "Alright. We'll use this place as our home while we are here." He agrees to which Roger sighs in relief. "Just don't expect us to act like our versions from this world."
"Of course not." Roger nods his head to show that he understands this. "We will do our best to accommodate things for you while you are here. Why don't I show you the rooms you'll sleep in? It's the same rooms as those who you have the bodies of now. I'm not sure if you've tried food before but I'll also show you where we serve it. You'll need to eat normal food for this world while in here."
Near nods and so they follow Roger to the bedrooms first.
They stop outside of one door.
"This here is Matt's room." Roger explains so Matt opens the door.
Matt glances to the various electronics sitting around the room. He isn't fully sure what to make of them or what a bunch of them even are.
"Our Matt is rather big on technology. He's really good as using said technology. You don't have to worry about any of it though. You can feel free to just leave them where they are. Our Matt can always figure everything out again when he is in his own body." Roger explains to which Matt nods his head in okay.
Roger leads the other two to another door. "Mello's room."
Mello opens the door stepping inside and he glances to the piles of books and papers placed around.
"Our Mello tends to study quite a bit." Roger explains. "Like I said to Matt you can just leave things. You don't need to really worry about it."
Mello nods so Near follows Roger away.
Roger stops outside yet another door. "Here is your room."
Near opens it and glances around the things staked, puzzles, and other various toys that are mixed in with some piles of books plus papers. "I already know what you'll say. This is stuff that your Near does and that I can just leave it."
"Yes. Would you like to check out the room a little more or be shown to our cafeteria? I can even show you three more around the orphanage so you can find things around here." Roger offers to Near.
