Chapter eight:

"I am sorry but we are going to have to bring you in to confirm your identity at the police station then you can go." A police officer mentions moving closer to Mello.

Shit! Mello knows that there is no way his fingerprints will come back as anyone valid. He lets the disguise drop and quickly flies away hearing shots being fired at him. He quickly dives into the trees and lands in one. He waits for a little bit then when he hears them below looking for him he moves to the top of the tree. He tries to be as sneaky as possible. He spreads his wings taking off trying to not be seen by flying around the area. "You people are so paranoid. Why do you have to make it all so difficult?" He mutters to himself and he heads away from that area to try to find a safer place to be. He's going to have to rethink his strategy. He makes a landing in a clearing and sits on a big rock to try to figure out another way in. He supposes that he could try sneaking around instead of just being confident and hoping that they buy it long enough for him to get what he wants. He'll just have to wait for the heat to die off of him. He sighs putting his hands on his knees as he sits there. He supposes that he could do a little practice transforming and make sure his sneaking is practiced while he waits for a little bit.

At the changeling home Matt has just left Near's room in this world as he has shared all that he can with the other. He heads off deciding to check out some of the other changelings to get a grasp on who each of them are. He's not sure though he knows there is a chance that it could prove useful. Plus he doesn't have to do much other than observe them for a bit so it is perfect for him. He then notices a changeling enter the home then head to Near's room. He stares at this pigeon winged changeling that waits just outside before entering to talk to Near. He wonders what is going on though as he glances around he can see others giving that area space. He can tell that they really respect it and though curious they refuse to poke into Near's business. He decides that he will wait as well.

Inside of Near's room Near is sitting across from a pigeon winged changeling. "You said that there was something important you wanted to share with me?"

The pigeon winged changeling nods his head. "Yes your highness. I was hunting near the city with a few others when he spotted something. The city is closing one area of the city and doing a sweep of the outside area. They're putting up barricades and everything. It almost looked like they were tipped off by something. We got whoever we knew was there out so they wouldn't get caught and killed."

Near wonders if Mello had tried entering the town again only to end up failing. He'll have to find out so he can talk to the other and hopefully make him see reasoning. "I want that area cleared out. No one is going over there until we know that it is all clear. We are not losing anyone if we can help it." He orders knowing that the changeling is looking at him for orders. "Spread the word immediately."

"Of course my king." The changeling dips his head then heads out to do just that.

Near turns knowing that he is going to have to go find Mello before he causes anymore trouble. He turns as Matt pokes his head in. He wonders if the red head might be able to talk sense into the blonde better than him. "Matt. Get information from the others but it looks like possibly Mello may have tried to enter the town again and the humans got tipped off. An area is being closed but we need to find Mello and talk to him. None of the others need to know that it might have been Mello and they don't need to know we're looking for him. Find out the area so you can be careful but you are his friend. Maybe you can talk a bit more sense into him if you find him."

"I'll do my best. You know Mello. He can get unpredictable at times. Sometimes he'll cooperate and sometimes trying to get him to do so blows up even in my face." Matt promises before pulling his head out to go at least try.

Near turns away from the entrance. "Mello, What were you thinking?" He whispers to himself with a shake of his head.

Back in the woods Mello has ducked behind a rock in a nearby cave as human search has gotten to where he landed.

"That was one of the kings high ranking members that tried to sneak into town." One of the people can be heard telling the others. "Be ready to take him down on sight. We might hinder the changelings a little if we can take out a high ranking member who appears to be on his own currently."

Mello wants to smash his head on the rock wishing that these people would just leave him alone already. He'll have to stay quiet and wait for them to make it through the area. He stays hidden crammed behind a rock with another rock in front of him as a flashlight shines into the cave. He hears someone approaching the cave to look more closely inside. He's starting to worry that he'll be found. If he changes now it will be noticed. He might have to make a run for it. He hears the click of a shotgun making him almost groan at this.

Of course they'd have at least a shotgun.

"Hey!" A voice suddenly calls out making the searcher spin around. "I found a clue! Someone took off flying over this way!"

With that there is many footsteps hurrying off in that direction including the one about to search the cave.

Once Mello can't hear them anymore he sighs in relief and carefully walks out of the cave.

A bush rustles making Mello tense and ready to fly only for Matt to pop his head out of the bush. Said red head has some leaves and sticks in his hair.

"Matt! You almost gave me a heart attack." Mello hisses at the other and approaches him to which he turns to him.

Matt comes out of the bushes and with Mello's help brushes himself off. "Sorry. I was waiting for them to leave the area."

"What were you doing?" Mello inquires knowing that Matt wouldn't just be out here for no reason. He knows that the other would rather relax than be in a random area for no reason.

"Looking for you." Matt points out and Mello hopes that Near didn't put him up to it. "What did you do? They closed off an area of the city and are scouring the woods around that area. Near had to call for no one to be in the area until everything is cleared."

"Not my fault they're paranoid. I thought I was convincing but apparently not." Mello rolls his eyes at this crossing his arms over his chest.

"So you did try to get into town again. You should have waited!"

"Near doesn't boss me around. We might have to pretend when around those others because blah blah it is how the world is. But this is stupid. We need that information on how to potentially get home before this world tries to force us to kill someone."

Matt places a hand on the angry blonde's shoulder. "Look Mello. I understand that you're frustrated with how things suddenly are. I am too. And I am sure that Near is as well. I mean suddenly being thrown into a high place of power in a world we don't actually understand."

"I bet he's enjoying it." Mello mutters to himself before Matt keeps going.

"Look. Let's just try to work together at least until we get home okay? Near is just trying to help and look out for everyone's safety even ours. I know it isn't a favourable thing for you. But at least come back and give it a try. At least until things clear up. It'll be very hard to get into the city now."

"Fine." Mello agrees to which Matt relaxes a bit. "But we got to sneak out of here and not fly directly over them. At least one of them has a shotgun." He points out to which Matt nods in agreement so they start by heading away from where the group had gone. "By the way. Was that you who shouted that? That was convincing enough to draw their attention away from the area."

Matt shakes his head. "That wasn't me. Could have been that they did find something. Before there was a notice of the increased security there was others in the area."

"Oh." Mello glances away realizing that others could have gotten killed if they weren't notified of the sudden security. He isn't sure how to feel about it since they clearly just kill people for food but it is what they eat plus they are one of them. Not to mention it would be his fault that they died accidentally his fault or not. He decides to ignore it for now. It's not really his problem. "I didn't think they'd send such a big response after me like that." He admits to the red head.

"Don't worry. I doubt any of us would have guessed how they would have responded to it all." Matt assures the other offering a smile. "For now let us just get the fuck out of here."

Mello can agree to that.
