Ed woke to the sound of his phone ringing on the floor beside his bed. He opened one eye into a squint to try and read the name on his screen, but the brightness of his phone against the stark darkness of his room made him blink. He felt his eyes water as he opened them again and saw that it was Nazz calling him.
"Nazz, what's up?" His voice thick with sleep.
Nazz's voice was too cheerful for the early hour when she responded. "Heya, Big Ed, I've got a favor to ask."
Ed propped himself up on one elbow. "What do you need?"
"Well, I need you to hang out with Eddy today. Marie and I are having a girls day, but I'm still worried about Eddy after everything with his brother. Can you take him out today? You know, just keep him busy and get him out of the house? I think it would really cheer him up!" The blonde explained.
"What about Double D? Should I bring him too?" Ed asked hopefully.
Nazz paused for a moment before speaking, "I'm not sure if that's a good idea yet, things are getting a little better between the two of them, but we don't want to push Double D too much."
"You can push a hen to a rooster, but you can't make it lay eggs." Edd said confidently.
Nazz chuckled, "I think you're right about that, Ed. So, do you think you can keep Eddy entertained for the day?"
Edd nodded before remembering that the blonde couldn't see him, "I think I can, no problem, Nazz! Just leave it to me."
"Thanks, dude, I owe you! I hope you have fun today!" She said before hanging up.
Ed was excited, he had a mission and he was going to do his best to make sure Eddy had a fun day. Eddy had been through a lot, just like everyone else recently. Ed knew that his friend had a hard time having fun sometimes, especially when his brother was around. He always seemed so stressed and Ed never knew how to really help his friend.
Sometimes the giant ginger would try to get him to watch movies or read comics, but Eddy was never really into it. Occasionally he could get Eddy to play a video game, or go bowling, but that was about it. All Ed wanted to do was make sure his friends were happy, but sometimes it was really hard to do that for them.
Ed hoped that he would be able to keep his friend in good spirits as he got out of bed. He absent mindedly rummaged through a pile of laundry trying to find something to wear for the day. Once he found an outfit he quickly got dressed and headed upstairs to have breakfast. His breakfast was simple buttered toast with jam. He ate it quickly before telling Sarah his plans to hang out with Eddy and heading out the door.
The walk to Eddy's house was quick, as usual. When he knocked on the door he was a little surprised at how quickly Eddy answered.
"Hey, Lumpy, what are ya' doing here?" Eddy asked, a wrinkle forming between his eyebrows.
"I have something that I want to do but I need your help. You drive and I'll tell you about it in the car." Ed said as he reached his arm into the door to grab Eddy's keys from their hanging spot by the door.
The wrinkle between Eddy's brows deepened as the big guy grabbed his keys but he stepped out of the house. The cloak and dagger routine wasn't really like Ed but if his friend needed help with something then Eddy would be there.
Down the street Nazz got a text from Ed letting her know that they were about to leave and she flashed her phone to Marie.
~ AN: Just wanted to say a quick thanks to every one who has been reading this and also apologize for how long it's taken to get this latest chapter out. I've had a lot going on and have just been struggling to find the energy to work on it. So thanks for sticking it out with me. ~
