Eddy was frustrated, he had assumed that Ed had needed help with something. He'd assumed that it was important. Instead he was helping Lumpy pick out flowers.

"Big Guy, I thought you said you were going to tell me what all this was about?" Eddy asked as Ed shoved a flower in his face.

"I did, I need your help picking out flowers." Ed explained as he picked up another one.

Eddy huffed and narrowed his eyes, "why are we picking out flowers, Ed?"

Ed picked up a red flower and stared at it, it reminded him of Kevin's hat. "Excuse me, what is this flower called?"

The older gentleman behind the counter lowered his glasses as he looked up at Ed. "That is a poppy, it's usually what people send to loved ones when someone close has passed away."

Eddy saw the look on Ed's face. "We're picking out flowers for Kevin aren't we?"

"Do you have any more flowers that would go with it?" Ed asked.

"Yellow zinnias are also good for remembering someone who has passed on." The gentleman pointed to some flowers behind them.

Eddy went and picked up a few and handed them to Ed, neither of them said a word to each other but they each muttered their thanks to the old man as they left. They loaded the flowers up in Eddy's car and hopped in.

"Where to, Big Guy?" Eddy asked as he started up the car.

"We're going to go see Kevin."

Eddy nodded as he pulled out onto the main road. This wasn't what he'd been expecting at all. Why did Ed need his help with this? He wanted to turn around and go home, but he couldn't do that to Ed, not without feeling like a jerk, so he just kept his mouth shut and drove to the cemetery. It was a quiet drive, and the quiet made it feel like a much longer drive than it actually was. He just wanted to get this over with.

To say that Kevin wasn't his favorite person would've been an understatement. Eddy hadn't mourned for him like the people around him had. He had actually been angry more than anything. He hadn't visited the grave at all since Kevin had passed, and he didn't feel anything as they got closer to the spot where the red head had been buried.

When they arrived at the cemetery Eddy parked the car and the two boys got out to grab the flowers Ed had picked out. It was a short hike from their parking spot to the grave site and Eddy was trying his best to be respectful of his friend.

The grass had started to grow on the mound of dirt at the grave, and the headstone looked like it had only been there for a day or two. Sitting on top of it though was a bunch of wilted flowers that looked like they had been hand picked out of someone's backyard.

Eddy watched as Ed gently lifted the old flowers off the headstone and place the new ones in the same spot.

"How long have you been doing this?" Eddy asked him.

Ed shrugged. "Since the funeral. I try to stop by once a week. I want it to look nice when Double D comes. I know he's not ready for it yet, but he will be."

Eddy felt a tear roll down his cheek and knot form in his throat. Even if he could speak he wouldn't know what to say. Ed had been taking care of Double D this entire time in his own Ed way. Meanwhile all Eddy had been doing was getting angry and sulking.

Eddy had tried to be there in the beginning, but he wasn't good at this kind of thing. He'd never had to help someone get over a death before. He suddenly felt everything, and he found the words he needed to say.

"I'm pissed at you Kevin. I know it's not your fault, I know it was an accident, but you shouldn't have left him. He needs you. I realize that now. Double D loves you and he needs you. So that means I need you too. I was bitter for a long time because I just thought you were trying to steal my best friend." A sob ripped through Eddy taking him a bit by surprise and Ed put an arm around his shaking shoulders.

"I wish we could've worked it out, Shovel Chin. I wish I would've realized sooner just how much you two meant to each other. I'm sorry I couldn't put my own shit aside to see that you really loved him. I was an ass."

The two of them stood there for a while after Eddy had said his piece. He waited for the tears to stop and eventually they did. As they turned to head back to the car the sound of police sirens filled the air and a notification tone played on Ed's phone.

It was a text from Nazz: Double D might be in trouble, come quick.
