Fall, 1986.
This was the time of her life. It certainly was. Tina Blake was gonna be honored and by calling up to be the next Miss America. The very first Chamberlain woman to be selected to become Miss America. It was a dream to no other women would have had achieved and succeced at much hard work. And especially from having to endure high school prom almost ten years ago.
And by being Chris Hargensen's best friend, it created a lot of talking through the peers's own ears. First with Sue Snell and Norma Waston. Sue Snell? Oh God. Mostly Sue Smelly shit. That bitch had betrayed them by leering over that cluts and creepy girl from her class and back from ten years ago. Carrie White. To pay off her respect, Sue had asked her boyfriend, Tommy Ross to accompany her off to the prom instead of her and probably to redeem herself from the shower incident.
Sue Smell had too much of a big heart and wanted to make amends over a creepy girl like shity Carrie and after making all the girls who had been involved into the shower incident pay for their mess, endurring detention in gym class with Miss Collins, with she had refused and been suspended for three days when she didn't wanted to collaborate. However, Tina had managed to sneak in by passing up for another sick girl to attend the prom and nobody had noticed the differences. See? Tina Blake, had always a back-up plan and wouldn't let an incompetent teacher tell her what to do. She wasn't as dumb as she seemed to be. Perfect even and after almost ten years, she managed to come up to her desires and pleasures as she combed her long dark hair who fell onto her exposed shoulders. Tina had smiled at the reflection coming up from the mirror as she retouched her eyelids with her mascara. With the dress she wore, all purple. Everything looked perfect, however..
There was one thing that had bothered her, still..
1976. Senior Prom of 76. It left so many scarred scars, and she somehow wished she had done something to prevent the awfull nightmare that had occurred up onto that night. She shut down her eyes when she felt many shivers going through the back of her long spine. It wasn't your fault, Tina, but Chris's. What comes around, goes around.
However, according to Chris's plan, the plug had been released and the blood had fallen over on a poor deprived girl. Splashing up all the blood all over Carrie's body form. That beautiful pink dress she had by herself all the make-up she had bought up to make herself beautiful and normal like anybody else. Like any other girl onto town, expect for one girl who refused her to be happy and that was Chris Hargensen. She had all into control and by snitching off the blood onto a bowl and when the names of Carrietta White and Tommy Ross were announced as the new king and queen of the prom, Chris couldn't have had controlled her excitement and when she was giving up the green light, she pulled up the cord to make the blood bowl fall over onto Carrie's crown and all over her body when the all the teenagers were stood up into shock, leaving Norma Waston laughing up hysterically.
All of them were horrified. Tommy Ross included. Herself as well. And Carrie White so horrified at the best night she could have had, for one night and yet. She made herself once again the certain of being the perfect clown and the joke that all of them wanted to laugh at it. Which it wasn't. That poor girl didn't have had much to say and was too shocked to reveal anything else, until Miss Collins had walked up onto the stage and was much horrified at the horrible sight of the stage. And especially Carrie who had been so distraught that she hadn't recognized the sport teacher walking over her.
"Carrie-"
"I'm a joke. Just a joke."
"Carrie-"
"Just a joke and nothing else.." She bursted out onto sobs and her wringled palms had covered up her face."Mama was right. Mama is always right. I've should've had listened to her. I should've had thought that all of this was a mistake.." She shivered through the bursting sobs. Oh God. Why was she crying? Oh God. And for an certain unexplained meaning, Tina couldn't have had explained herself better. What if that girl had been her? Would she have had the guts to face the crowd with all the blood splashed over her? Would she? No..
"Carrie, let me-"
"Don't touch me!" Her voice had almost yelled out to Tommy's shuddering and from the way Carrie looked over him. With the falling tears all over her cheeks. Her bleeding cheeks."I've opened up my heart to you. I've trusted you Tommy. Thinking you were a good man who could see me better than I've been called or named, but you weren't. You're much like the others.." Which left the blond curly haired man into shock and broken from the way an humiliated and blood strained Carrie had accused him and with the way her eyes looked and especially with her eyebrows were narrowed. It looked almost horrified as much when the double doors and windows had opened in a flexing movement.
And in out of nowhere which it had attired the students's attention. Including hers. Weird.
It all it took. A flex. Tina had recalled back. It was unbelievable but it did wonder when Sue had tried to fight over Miss Collins who had dragged her away from the gym, not because she wasn't dressed or had a date, but had believed that Sue was behind something as if she was behind a terrible joke. But since she had too much of a good heart, she didn't fought back when Miss Collins had dragged her away from the gym.
"You've tricked me.." Her voice sounded like a warning sound. When Miss Collins only tried to help her. But it was no use.
"Carrie-"
"Stop!" She screamed back into a pitched and hard scream when she brought up her hands to cover her ears and clutchered her eyes shut when the windows had suddenly shattered up through her scream and broke onto pieces. Thousands of shattered pieces when the people around the place and bend down to hide away from the window pieces, completely frightened by the sudden shock.
A screaming that had hauntened the students for many years and including Tina. Sometimes, she even wondered what would've had happened if she had been more nice over kids like Carrie. Maybe things would have gotten better and maybe Carrie would have gotten the help she needed and save her even from the peers around, but she was much as a coward as everybody else.
Tommy was startled by her yelling and close enough to lose his footening onto the stage and right in front of Sue's petrified stare while she could hear Carrie blaming and to be the first to blame her boyfriend's behavior and when everything had been her idea, though. And yet, it looked like Tommy had started to care and maybe care for a creep girl like Carrie. A girl who had never had her place from anybody else and to which everybody made it sure she wouldn't forget who she was and what kind of a person she was to anybody else here. However for Carrieta White, it really broke her heart and especially when everybody around here had been playing up with her feelings. And includding Tommy Ross who had been nice to her and even to make her feel like she was special, for once into her life.
And yet. All popular kids were cruel onto their own ways. Tina was sure it was the same for Tommy. He wasn't the kind of a guy who could easily fall over an creepy girl, like Carrie White until she fixed herself onto a shortened Cinderella version until the blood fell all over her. She felt betrayed and used by everybody else here. The people who had admired her from coming out of her shell and had fooled her even from almost ten years ago.
And then. Carrie White had disappeared and vanished through thin air without any sound. All thanks to Chris's all planning joke and Tommy Ross's distraught feelings. Oh man. He could have had developped feelings for this girl and behind Sue's back. But since he had been faithful to Sue's feelings, he couldn't or didn't wanted to put any tricks onto Carrie's mind for pleasure, until a couple years ago. Tina winced back on how Tommy had been angry back then, as if an horrible gapping wound had unleashed out, once again.
When Tommy broke up things over with Sue when she had visited him in Chamberlain and told him the asbolute truth and everything from the shower incident which left him furious with the afterneath that had occurred when Carrie had left the prom into shame and had never turned her back over again. He did know the real reason behind Sue's favor of asking him to take Carrie to the prom, but not the exact way of it. Which had left him in a mess when he and among the others watched the girl running away and disappeared for almost ten years ago. Nobody had known where she had left or even had been heard from the very last time. Not even Miss Collins had heard of or even Chris had heard about, but what she could have done about it? Nothing. Carrieta White was gone from the moment she had left off the stage and had never walked back in.
And never did.
But who would care for a creepy girl like Carrie White? Nobody. As much when everybody had moved on onto theirs lives, from these ten horrible years until now. Chris had married Billy and stayed over with three crying kids, despite trying to pursue law degree just like her father had been and with three kids. As if she could handle all of it in a second, which she couldn't. Most of it. Even heard that she had gotten fat and her own hair was about to fall out.
Thinking she can become a lawyer, by doing all that, all once? However, nothing seemed to fit well with Billy who was working enough at his father's gas station, from the day he had dropped out from school and taking care of three kids and with a demanding wife was hard enough to blow out his mind. What the heck, Chris was thinking by staying with him and letting herself getting wasted with a pig like him? Norma Watson, the big gossip girl, had went to purse out onto journalism. No big way and with that big mouth she has, it was no big deal. Frieda and George got married and as much Frieda had just started to work a elementary teacher, George, Tommy's one of best friends, had become a deputy. They were starting pretty fresh and somehow Tina had envied their nice and simple life together as they begun by being friends until they've started to date each other back at school. Nice and simple even if the woman was studious and caring while man was all acting up nice and as a joker.
Sue hadn't moved much from the town either way. She had become a counselor for the school that didn't had the guts to overcome or ignore the bad stigma of their own past which Sue wanted to handle, if any kids or misfits needed help they could always come up to her when help wasn't much asked or came around. Maybe because of guilt, of not being able to come and helped out Carrie? It might be. And especially with Tommy whom had left her then and decided to persue something outside of the town. Rumors had said that he had maybe fell for the creep girl and had never came back around until reunion from what Tina had heard. The reunion. Tina was even sure he hadn't even forgave Sue either. Not because he did tried but it was just too painful to bare and stick to a place where you thought you could built up a home here. But filled up with lies and all about a stupid prank.
As for Scarrie White. Some people had said she left town or had disappeared after the prom or had maybe had died even. Nobody had heard where she had gone through until they have heard that the house she and her mother, that creep and zealous religious Magaret White had perished into flames. Faded into flames as nothing else had followed up believing they had been deceased and burned in hell.
But there have been no proof. No bodies or bones were found to the crime scene. Nothing, just the house that had been destroyed with flames. Fire had been taking up into the scene. But what happened to Margaret and Carrie White after prom? What the heck, had happened?
"It's not your problem, anymore. No longer your dilemma. You're not a kid, anymore. Tina. Time to take your future into your hands and show to these people, that you're an mature woman now.." She told to herself as a reminder of forgetting the past and move on onto the future. The present and nothing else. Leave the pain and guilt behind. Hadn't she? After all like among other girls, she had made fun of Carrie White. And it had taken her ten years to realize that, couldn't even attend her own most wanted reunion to be with her once friends, from high school.
Get a grip, Blake. She worked up her ass hard enough to make up onto it and to get where she wanted to be, today. Miss Chamberlain-Miss America and was about to be crowned queen. A chance that she had let go from many years ago, she couldn't wait to see that bitch, Chris's ugly and stupid's bitch face once she hears that she had been elected up as the new Miss America over here and from the way people were waiting up for her to show in any minute.
The show must go on, as they often said.
...
He was waiting for her to come by and through he was hiding away through the crowd, he could manage to look through the eleven young women whom had presented themselves on stage as their name were announced. Loud and clear. However, he didn't paid enough attention to them, as only one of them had mattered up to him.
That tall and beautiful dark long haired women with sparkling eyes and with her blue one pice bathsuit and silver sparkling high heels standing onto the first row at the left on stage. Looking uncomfortable. Still looking uncomfortable with her hips, even if if it had been ten years ago. She still looked uncomfortable and nervous as she was being watched from a stranger.
Tina Blake.
He had a feeling that something was finally gonna happen tonight, not only for himself but for herself. His smile had grown even wider when he watched the man opened up the letter and announced loud enough.
"The new Miss America is...Tina Blake!" The crowd went loud as they proudly clapped and excited for much as they've seemed to be when the tall dark haired woman stepped down onto the stage and received her own and prestegious crown and her beloved and expensive bouquet of red roses. Tsk. What a joke. This bitch didn't even deserved to be selectionned as a good model for women or for men to be fantanzied at all. And especially when the very last woman who had received and believed to have had earn her own crown, for only one night had gotten tricked that night, and this woman hadn't deserved this unfair treatement at all.
She deserved to be loved and cherished from all the desastrious mess that had happened to her and he hadn't been there for her to save her before. But now, he was back and intended to get revenge for the only woman he had never meet but had sworn to protect if anything bad had happened to her. Poor baby girl. Margaret had filled her up with her own bullshit when he had left her on her own. When he had been much of a coward to take care of his own daughter. He should've had known better. He should have had taken his daughter away from Margaret to save and love her away from this crazy person. But he never did and that was his biggest , things were different now and he would at least do something worthwhile to save his daughter's memory from shame. Even if it taken ten years to comeback and to make things right.
Oh Yeah. The game was just getting started.
...
Tina couldn't believed she had won. She did. When the announcer had placed her the crown of becoming the new Miss America of 1986 onto her head and especially when she received the rose bouquet onto her the crowd that had applauded right back at her winning standing. She just couldn't believe it! it made her burst into tears. Tears of gratitude and of joy, here.
She had been so speecheless that she couldn't say much of whatever word she had written down to say. Mostly, her words were about thanking for coming over and congratualating the other woman who would had won instead of her. But it did happen. It did!
"Oh my God. I still can't believe it.." She said to herself as she opened up the door of the dressing room and walked inside still holding the rose bouquet to herself. More like clinging it to herself. The crown onto her head. Proudly hanging onto her head, like it should've had. Everybody had been clapping out loud to congratulate her, and were happy. Very happy. Close to laugh up at her appearence.
Laugh? Why wouldn't they be laughing?
Don't be ridiculous! It's all in your head! Tina just shook up her head and sat down onto her chair. No, they weren't laughing. They weren't. But a feeling told her that a few people laughed at her image. A feeling that deep down onto her gut, made her think that someone had been watching her. It made her feel distraught which she almost stepped through her big high heels when she walked onto the stage.
Calm down. You're no longer seventeen now! Grow up, Blake. Couldn't she? If it didn't worried her, she wouldn't have that thought right now. She dropped down the rose bouquet onto the counter right before the mirror, when she noticed the pink enveloppe under them. Which had caught her up her curiosity. Tina narrowed her arched eyebrows and digged out the enveloppe away from the roses. With her hands shaking like crazy, she watched it and to which it revealed that it had no name onto it or any address onto it when she turned the enveloppe back.
Who could have had retrieved for her?
One way to find it, is to see it..Tina, despite shaking like a leaf, snatched up the enveloppe open and dugged out the the paper who had same color as the enveloppe which it had one phrase written into the letter with a dark and messy ink. Printed and coming from a computer word wad system. Both small and larger words but with dark markers glued onto the letter.
SoRRy is NoT EnouGH, Bitch!
It was written with frustration and hatred. Pure hatred and only adressed up to her. But who could had send it to her? Who could hate her still? Carrie White could have had, but she wasn't here anymore, so it wouldn't or couldn't be her. She could be dead by now. The crazy bitch could be dead, today.
Or did she? And had comeback to haunt her, for revenge..Could Carrie comeback with a revenge after the humiliation she did endured, with the shower incident? How could she not know what were periods or even any menstrual cycle. All women did, but not her. And yet, she got mocked and made fun of it by everyone, like Tina and Chris and Sue.
Sorry is not enough. It wasn't enough for a poor and wrecked girl like her, ten years ago to have had lived into cycle of abuse and violence.
"Sorry is not enough, dear.." A man's deep voice was heard from the corner back far from the dressing room which made Tina startled and dropped the letter down onto the dresser desk.
Flick!
The lights went out into the room leaving her alone in the room, alone with the voice. A man's voice. Anger voice. She wlooked up around the room to see him, but didn't find any image or picture here. Who does he thinks he is?
"Who is here?" She called back feeling her breath going up high. So much, it scared her. So lost into the dark. Which it started to frightening her."Who are you?"
"Someone you should be careful of..You know what they say; be careful of what you're wishing off."
"I don't know what you're talking about-" Tina had tried to step up into her full height and tried to reach up to the light and close up to the door's handle-
Flick!
The door slammed to shut and fast. And this is when she started to sound very scared for a moment. To feel herself locked up here, into her own dressroom after she had won Miss America. She tried to turn around the door's handle, but it didn't turn or open as she tried hard to budge it open. She could hear the man's sneaky laughter turning into evil.
"You think you could run away, after the mess you've had done?"
"Please, leave me alone!" Her eyes widened into shock throughtout the darkness as she looked out for the man's voice. From where he stood hidden in here.
"Being locked up or being tested for your claustrophobic fear, they didn't taught you that, at the Miss America competition, Tina Blake? When you didn't really told them the truth.." Fear locked up through her throat. She brought up her hands to the door handle as she tried to pull it open, but it still didn't budge. It didn't!
"Please, let me go.." She was now getting very scared and so much as it hurted her to breathe. Which it made the situation even better for the man who kept on going too much for her misery.
"You sworn to them that you had been honest, that you only wished for world peace to the entire world even wanted the world to be better. Much better. I know. I've watched you. Lie in every take.." He made her face with the truth which she denied over and over.
"No. Stop it!"
"You didn't wished for world peace when you were making fun and humiliating weaker people than you.." The man's voice had recounted back as she pounded over the door as she tried to get away by screaming to anyone who could still be out there or cleaning the stage. She didn't cared as long she could still be sved or spared by a maniac here. A maniac whom had slipperedly walked into her dressroom when she was out onto winning the competition.
"You've made fun of her. You made fun of Carrie. A girl who did notthing but minded her own bussiness away from everyone. You've humiliated her. You and your friends had killed her, back that night."
"No. I didn't. I didn't do it!" She cried back as she knocked over the door.
"You did. You did it."
"No, I didn't do it! It was all Chris's idea! Not me!" She begged back into uncontrolling tears. "I'm sorry!" Tina pounded over the door louder and louder."Please, anybody help me! Help me!" She cried back out. Cried and sobbed horribly like a child as she knocked over the door throughtout the darkness. Over and over. When she felt the cold sliccing, sharping and kitchen knife over her throat. It made her lose her breath as she stood with fear. Which made her want to scream for her mother one last time."I'm so sorry!"
"Sorry is not enough.." The man's voice was heard for the last time when the knife went through her throat and over through two or three times, before Tina Blake could answer back. As she gurgled through the spilling blood as she coughed out for air and fell down onto the floor when the world had gone out black.
Which the proudly crown fell as well onto the ground along with her body.
...
Three days later. California, San Diego.
They're gonna get you, they're gonna laugh at you! God never forgives or forgets sin! Carrie had woken up, brutally from her slumber as if she just had a nightmare. Oh crap. Her heart was racing up and fast. At this late afternoon. She must had fell alsleep after she had gotten permission from the nurse chief to have her lunch break, which she didn't had much appetite, lately. She rubbed her tired eyes, by dropping out a groan much as if she had too much to drink from last night.
NIght shifts were hell to live and to take.
"You had any sleep, White?" A female co-worker with a deep voice had stepped inside of the break room with a humpf when her steps were heard throughtout the place. Carrie sat straightened onto her chair and slipped out a yawn out from her mouth. Which had comfirmed Grace's answers as she took out a styrofoam cup from the up drawner and took out the coffee pot with a groan.
"Nope.." As if she had any of it since stepping and working undying shifts at the hospital. At Scripps Mercy Hospital. Carrieta 'Carrie' White blinked up her eyes to shake away the slumber away from her sight. Poor woman. She hadn't gotten any sleep ever since she had agreed to take over the night shifts at the hospital. At least to take her mind away from real life events. Dying people needed doctors and nurses's help more than ever.
Men as well. When they were dying of an incurable disease. AIDS. The epedimic had hit hard onto the men. Gay or homosexual as they had called God's own sin onto them. Oh God. If her mother had heard about it, she would become one of these complotists people that dragued and punished these innocent people whom didn't do anything onto earth to deserve to be dying today. When they just wanted to be loved and to be accepted from the way they were today.
"Want another refill, here, darling?"
"That'd be great..Grace." She whispered back into defeat as she looked up to the watching clock hanging onto the wall. 12:30pm. Already? Oh Boy, she must had slept more than a few hours, ever since Greggory Pines had passed away holding onto her hand's grasp. Giving him the last wishing gift she could give to him when his proudly and religious sister had still refused to show up and come to his bedside. So, Carrie had greeted him this very last wish and especially, when he did looked scared and lost all alone. Pretty much like she had been before.
"How long, have I slept, already?" She cleared up her voice when she could hear Grace that kept onto groaning here behind her back.
"Almost four hours. You need a break, dear. Nobody wants you to get sick or breathe the sick air, around. It'll do you no good.."
"I know. But it keeps me alive, for to do something.." Put all the comfort she didn't get as a child to these dying men, who needed cmfort that it almost made her want to burst into tears. How horrible, God had been to these men., she've thought back as if this horrible sickness had been a punishement meant for them from the start.
"You know, you can't save all of them, here." Grace had warmedly confided back as she dragged back down the freshed coffee cup with milk and suggar onto the table when Carrie ran her fingers through her long strawberry blond hair away from her sight as she sighed or more like sniffed.
"I know, but I can't push it away." She greeted back the gift from Grace with a smile and nodded by taking the cup. "And you know why? Cause I feel like I'm needed for them.." She took a sip from the cup before she swallowed deep down but felt its good and freshed taste.
"Well, many kids in Africa would certainly feel happy to hear it as well..That's someone is at least carrying for them too.." Grace had followed back to Carrie who whirled her attention to the dark skinned, curly dark haired and curvy woman. Grace Spencer who was around her mid thirties was a single mother of a little and energetic five year old boy Noah, lived up alone until an freshed graduated from medecine school Carrie had moved in with her and to help her out with Noah whenever Grace was kept away at the hospital. But this time, when the two of them were occupied, Noah was mostly over a friend's house at this time or kindergarten. However, the two women had started to become friends as they worked together and for once, Carrie was glad to have a friend and a roomate around to count onto. it felt so normal and less lonely, for once. And to be able to move on from high school and the bullies and from Sue Snell and Tommy Ross.
Away from everything. California, San Diego seemed to be the perfect place and the most beautiful place where the sun never sets and when the weather never gets tired of the warm feeling around. Everybody here seemed to be so nice. Well not everybody, but they weren't as horrible as they've been in Chamberlain. Which it was why, she had moved away from there. From everything. When she had been given the chance to have.
"Think, it started from there? The epedimic, I mean." Carrie had tried to switch up the subject away from her thoughts. Even if she could not think over it.
"I wouldn't think so..If it did, someone would have had said something, but didn't opened up their mouth, yet.."
"Did another man died, by now?" And how many others would need to die in order to get away. It was terrifying epidemic and it felt like it would never end. It was so exhausting to bare onto the nurses's shoulders right here and now. She and Grace were no exception.
"Not yet. One, he's still hanging onto there but the another, is having delusions or dementia. It often happens to them when it gets worse. The sickness, I mean." Grace had followed back up looking a bit sober through it or maybe because she looked as if she did something bad here." I know, cause I was the one who had to restrain him from hurting himself when these bastards couldn't do anything.." Powerfull doctors who were the ones who couldn't budge or act as her friend had almost stated back. Carrie wanted to comfort her, but she had known it was far from her own control here. It was a disease that could kill and silence a man from speaking out and once it was done, their bodies would be thrown away to get rid of any contamination which it was from what people believe.
Just like they made her leave. Hadn't for the humiliated prom, she wouldn't have had but to die from her mother's brutal and brainwashing methods. Not to mention physical abuse with God's and Satan's word. But Tommy Ross, the boy had no idea what mess she had been through and she could tell that he was slowly falling for her, likening her, a little bit or else, she wouldn't have had felt his lips onto hers.
He did kissed her, when he asked to dance. When they've both danced under the dancing neon nights here. They've shared a kiss, which it left her surprised when she mumbled back with words that didn't made any sense. He couldn't have had developped any feelings for a weird and creepy girl like her. It just couldn't. Unless...
"Hey, Carrie..Carrie!" Grace had called her back as she blinked back to reality and away from the fantasies. From a man who might never love her. Who could love her, as the freak girl as she had always remained to be after all these years. Even if years had passed and to wghich she did turned into a beautiful swan, it still made her feel uncomfortable whenever a man looked up and down onto her. Young doctors looked down at her as if she was a piece of meat. As if all growning women were like that.
"Uh? What?" Carrie had called up back when Grace had smirked back at her face as if she had gotten caught into a lie.
"Are you paying any attention of what I've just said?"
"Yeah..Yeah.." No. She wasn't. Even if she tried to deny it.
"I know that look.." What look? She wasn't aware of any look here. After all, with the time she worked up her ass here, she did tried to remain quiet as she could and kept onto her patients's needs.
"What look?"
"That one here. Looks like you have a guy into your mind here.." Grace almost snickered out when Carrie's eyes were stunned.
"No, I don't.."
"Who is he? Tell me! I'm not gonna tell anybody here!" And the doctors who had been looking under her skirt for an example, would be devastated to learn that the attractive nurse Carrie White's heart had been taken by another man than themselves.
"There isn't any guy!" Even if Tommy Ross wasn't taken or not. She couldn't or be willing to be thinking of him. It wasn't fair after that night. At the black prom.
"Then, why are you blushing up here?"
"I'm not blushing!" She rejected back at that thought, almost a little too loud here for her taste. Or wasn't she? Blushing? Couldn't she? No. Not with any guy. She had been a little too shy when it came to guys or doctors unless it was an order that she was usually couldn't object. But no men had made her go red. No men but Tommy Ross who had been Sue Snell's boyfriend, unless they did broken up after the prom. High school relationships didn't always last as they've seemed to be.
"Yeah. That's what they're always saying, gal. But it's good to find some happiness whenever there's blues around the sad environment, like here." Which it was. Cause how much people fought or had died, deserved some happiness. Like these men over there. Or maybe a few women as well. If there were. Which it would made the disease pretty much equal.
"You do too, deserve some happiness, Grace.." Carrie had patted her friend's shoulder before she stood up from the chair and to walk away. But Grace didn't look much convinced.
"Yeah right. If I had your curves and strawberry hair, I would." Grace mumbled back with a grunt, almost as if she was ashamed to herself. "Now, go before the devil runs up to you as my mother used to scold me around before.."
"Thanks for the coffee, here. I appreciate it." Still looking tired, Carrie smiled back and left the breakroom with the coffee cup onto her hold.
...
It's not that she wasn't interested to date any man here, it was only because she wasn't comfortable onto her own skin. Still, at only twenty-seven today, Carrie felt she wasn't ready yet. Or maybe, she didn't wanted to be tricked by anyone here like it had been for almost ten years ago.
And when it had happened. The Deadly Prom. Where she was standing there, all covered up with blood sticking it to her own body and the pink dress she'd proudly made for herself and to which she had considered beautiful as everybody said she looked beautiful with her brushed and waved strawberry hair falling onto her slender shoulders. With eyeliner and mascara that had awken up her eyes and her lips, with pink gloss that matched along her dress.
She did looked amazingly perfect as Tommy had jokedly said before, ten years ago.
"I'd better not catch you, hugging any guys like that.."
"No, you won't.." She smiled back under the dancing neon lights. It had been a magical night, that he wasn't able to take his eyes off of her. Not even for a second. She felt him stare at her and from the way he did called her beautiful, just a few minutes before he and she walked up stage, it just melted her heart, wholeheartedly. Was it how it felt to fall in love with somebody? Carrie would never know about it unless she let's herself go. And still, ten years later, she hadn't been able to let her heart trust anyone other than her friend Grace. Get a grip, Carrie!
After finishing with her coffee cup which she had thrown away into the garbage can from the women's bathroom, she looked up at herself at the mirror as she grimaced over the reflection. Oh Boy, maybe I do need to get out more.. Her long hair was falling out from her knot and really needed a little brushing before she goes back onto her shift. Her skin looked like it needed a little refreshing up and her eyes as well. A little mascara and a little touch of an eyeliner to wake them up, wouldn't hurt. But she didn't had her purse with her, at the moment. And her white nurse uniform had been a little over dressed up as if had been malfunctioned broughted up from falling over alsleep onto the break room. Luckily the long skirt wasn't in a mess but damn. She looked down onto herself as her hands tried to fixed the shirt and pushed the skirt down so it could hug up her curves. Slender curves that Grave had envived so much about, earlier.
"Crap..That's what you get for sleeping!" She mumbled to herself as she fixed up the uniform a bit better until was well made up for an woman's proper image and look almost normal. Not like a creep. She wasn't a seventeen year old girl whom cried after having her periods for the first time, but an grown woman now. And a grown woman of her age needed to be brought up strong and be an example of strength. Not of a weakness. But strong woman who had been capable to live on her own, after the horrifying events that had taken ten years ago. And to think when her mother had almost killed her. Which it still hauntened her. Just to think if she hadn't made it up to the hospital if it hadn't been for the concerned neighbours who had heard the screams and the noise. The noise of the open and slamming windows and the doors. And her pitched and terrifying screams. Shivering with fear throughtout these moments, Carrie shook her head and turned tapes on so the water appeared.
"Don't be stupid.." She whispered to herself as she held her long hair with one hand and closed up her eyes as the other hand brought up the warming water to her face. She hadn't used up her powers since that night and wasn't about to change her mind, any other way now. It messed up with her mind, before.
...
"Hey, Carrie, you've had forgotten your mail, this morning.." An early thirty year old woman with curly short and brown hair and hazel eyes, another nurse but from the pedriatic care, Jennifer Marlow had handed her a few letters once she stepped down onto the receptionist and waiting room where a few people waited by sitting or standing up around the place. Carrie had finished up by fixing up her hair into another ponytail when the nurse had given her the unxecpted mail.
"Mail? Since when?" She tried to not sounded annoyed by it. Even when a few doctors had tried to woo her which it did annoyed her still. Looking out for a date was the least of her concerns.
"Don't know, it came under your name including a pink enveloppe with your name onto it." Jennifer had added up back with an raised eyebrow."You still go under Carrie White, no?" Seriously? Of course, she still does!
"I still do.." She shrugged back her shoulders as she took the enveloppes from Jennifer's hold.
"It might be a secret date, don't you think?"
"I don't know about that point, but thanks anyways.." Carrie had greeted her back as she too out the mail from Jennifer's hold as the brunette walked away. Glad to be alone for once, she looked up to the letters. A few where about the electricity and heating bills, not to mention water that little Noah had loved to splash around and the bank accounts. Mostly, Grace's and hers.
Phew..What else was new?
But it was the pink enveloppe that had caught up her attention and to which her name had been written back onto the surface and big under black letters. Who could it be? She wondered back. It couldn't be her mother or anybody else. She did left Chamberlain, Maine with no the option of giving to anyone any new address or phone. It was a new start and far away from a living nightmare. A nightmare that could have gotten wrong. Getting up with her courage, she took out a a few pair of cissors from the receptionist desk that had been onto the front and ripped out the enveloppe open as she took out the letter. The pink letter and to which a photo was also taken and glued onto it. Which it made her eyes go into shock as she almost backed back from a step. She sworn her heart had almost gave out the minute she read the memo, and had seen the picture here.
One gone. The rest would follow.
Carrie's frightened eyes followed the letters to the picture which it revealed the body of a once beautiful woman, whose throat was slicced to two onto three times, not to mention her short and purple dress had been ripped appart into shreds revealing her naked body to the light and into a completely awfull disaster as her eyes remained open while her body laid onto the ground with her perfected breasts slashed deep, through the stabbings had followed through the navel and onto the deep down onto her pubic and private but exposed parts which had been destroyed with the stabbing she took unless she did felt it or not. Oh God. Blood was everywhere.
But it wasn't only that frightened Carrie the most. The woman who once had been declared New Miss America, was one of her peers staring right back with the stunning reflection of her dead and lifeless eyes.
Tina Blake.
...
Even if I had other stories to complete, I had this one stuck into my head and always had wondered what would've had happened if Carrie had run away or even if the Black Prom, hadn't occured even. Based onto the 1976 movie based onto Stephen King's book as well, which takes ten years after the prom and looks like a killer is tracking down the bullies, starting with Tina, even if she was replaced by Norma in the film. So, most all of the bullies would be tracked here. Thanks and hope you'll enjoy it.
