He's a real nowhere man
Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Craig sat at the desk in his bedroom and started to make plans for the trip he wanted to take with his beloved girlfriend after graduation. He wanted to go on a road trip from Toronto to New York to California and back again in two months. He knew it wouldn't happen. She knew it wouldn't happen. But still he planned.
Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Craig crumpled up the fifth piece of paper. He didn't like the idea of Toronto to New York to California. He didn't like the second idea of Maine to Kentucky to New Mexico, or the third of Quebec to Washington to Maryland. Or the fourth and fifth, which were mainly doodles of the car he wished he had. He didn't know where he wanted to go, but still he planned.
Nowhere Man, please listen
You don't know what you're missing
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command
Jimmy, Marco, Spinner, all of his friends tried telling him that he was wasting time planning this trip. They all knew when it came time to leave, she would never go with him. They kept telling him that he was missing so many parties while he was cooped up in his room. They even said he could choose which parties to go to if he would just come out of his room. But still he planned.
He's as blind as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?
He couldn't see that they were trying to help him. That they were trying to make this a memorable time for him. That's what graduation should be, memorable. But he kept telling himself that she would leave with him. Eventually he started to believe it too. And so he sat in his room, and he still planned.
Nowhere Man, don't worry
Take your time, don't hurry
Leave it all till somebody else lends you a hand
When his friends started to realize that he was so far gone in thoughts of this trip, they would need to ease him out. "Don't worry, Craig. After this movie you can go right back home to plan. We just wanna spend time with our friend before we all head off to college." "Don't hurry with the plans, Craig. You might miss something. Maybe you should take a little time off." "C'mon, Craig. Let's go out to do something. Maybe you should get a professional trip planner. And until then, let's go hang." But still he planned.
Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
After a few days of useless planning, Craig looked over all of the newest papers. Not satisfied with any, he dumped them in the trash. He didn't know where would be the perfect places to bring her. He didn't know where he was going to take her, but still he planned.
Nowhere Man, please listen
You don't know what you're missing
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command
The day before graduation, Craig finally had the perfect plan. He knew it was better than all of the previous ones. Toronto to New York to California and back again. But then he realized he'd come up with that idea before and it wasn't perfect at all. So he threw it away and started again. His friends would tell him of all of the parties. All of the magnificent parties that he was missing. But still he planned.

Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
After graduation, Craig went to Manny. "Get packed. We're gonna go on a road trip. I don't have an actual plan. But we can go no where and we can go everywhere. It's up to you. Let's just go." But she turned him down. She couldn't leave. So Craig went home and planned.
It had become a sick habit.
