The two of them ran to Monty Golf, Quickly outpacing the employee who had found them.
Upon entering, Evan could see several employees trying to usher curious customers out of the area. All of the customers were staring up into the rafters. The out of breath manager finally managed to catch up, shouting:
"It's Monty! He's… Up in the rafters!"
Vanessa sighed "Now again, alright I'll go get Freddy, Evan get up there and make sure he doesn't fall."
"What?" Evan tried to ask what she meant by that, but she was already running off. He had no idea what he was supposed to do in this situation, but he decided to go check on Monty himself, see if it was a navigation error or something similar.
Making his way up via a ladder behind the check in counter, he began to walk along the upper catwalk.
All of the foliage used to conceal the catwalks from below made it hard to see down below, but he could wager a guess it was too high up.
After moving forwards a little, Evan heard a click to his left, and a moving alligator cart came towards him, knocking him off balance. He managed to barely catch himself on the edge of the platform
He could hear several gasps and shouts from below as he dangled high up in the air. Adrenaline kicked in as he realized that a fall from this height would probably break a bone or two, Evan quickly pulled himself back up onto the walkway, shimmying forwards out of the way as he took a few deep breaths.
Moving forward more carefully, Evan eventually saw a glint of bright green from between a couple of hanging supports. Slowly making his way over, Evan spotted the alligator, sitting down on the catwalk, overlooking part of the course.
"Great, now what?" Evan wondered aloud to himself. This made the alligator turn his attention to him.
They stared at each other for a solid second before Evan decided to try something:
"Come with me." He stated. The alligator stood up, and began to carefully take steps over toward Evan.
Evan started leading the bot across the walkways. As he checked behind himself to see if Monty was still following, he saw that the alligator was peering down, it looked sad, Evan wondered if that was part of his programming.
Then, he heard the sound of the mechanism again.
Evan didn't have enough time to react as he felt himself being shoved right off the walkway. He didn't have a chance to grab onto anything as he felt himself become weightless for a brief moment.
Right before he slammed his eyes shut and braced for impact, Evan saw an arm reach out for him.
It was Monty's arm. It grabbed onto Evan, but he reached too far trying to save him.
Now they were both falling, Monty was still holding onto Evan's arm, as he shouted to him:
"I'm sorry Evan!"
Evan didn't have time to wonder how the robot knew his name. Everything went black right as they hit the ground.
When Evan woke up next, he was in the hospital. He was told that he had been in comatose for two weeks, and It was a miracle he was alive at all. The robot had landed on top of him, and caused some serious damage.
More specifically, he landed on Evan's right side, which caused him to lose his arm, eye, and gain a lot of broken bones.
He stayed in that hospital for several weeks recovering. He got a get well soon card from Vanessa and the rest of the staff. It had the signatures of some of the mascots too, but not Monty's.
Eventually he was released from hospital, but he wasn't able to go back to work. It would be another month laying around his apartment, slowly recovering.
It wasn't all bad though, he had plenty of time to get better at video games, and kept in contact with Vanessa. She told him that everyone missed him, and that Monty felt really bad about what had happened.
Evan scoffed at that, again with the robot jokes? He still appreciated her conversations. But then something strange happened. She stopped calling, and he couldn't get through to her either.
Evan checked around the internet and found out that the Pizzaplex had shut down. It had been closed due to health concerns.
He couldn't believe it. He knew they had passed their last health inspection. Evan knew he often joked that the place couldn't run without him, but he was never serious.
He had a sinking feeling that something else happened. A pang of guilt hit his wounded chest as he wondered if he had somehow caused this. Could his injury really have caused enough damage to shut it all down?
Those thoughts stabbed into his brain like daggers, until he decided that It didn't sit right with him. Evan grabbed his keys and pain killers and drove to work, one last time.
"And that's why I'm now staring down the front doors of the abandoned Pizzaplex." He said to himself, rubbing his temple. The shutters on the front doors were pulled up, but the doors were still locked.
Evan fished around for the keys in his pocket, pulling them out and inserting it into the door.
He took a deep breath as he turned the key, making his way inside. Once inside he made sure to lock the door behind him. He didn't want anyone else sneaking in.
The first thing he noticed was the lack of… Anyone. It was completely empty inside. An uncomfortable departure from the usual chaos.
"Guess they already packed up all the Staff bots." Evan mumbled to himself, as he walked up to the foyer gates. Hopping over them, he began walking up the stairs towards the elevators to the atrium. If he was going to figure out what happened, he needed to go back to where it all happened.
Walking up to the elevators, Evan pressed the button…
A few minutes passed, and… Nothing. He groaned, it looked like he would have to find another way around. Evan realized he would have to take the staff tunnels, so he turned around to go back…
…Just in time to see a large figure move out of sight back by the gates. He immediately froze.
It seems Evan wasn't the only one sneaking around.
