Megan had always wondered what it was like to have a twin. At least, back in her world. Someone by her side, looking exactly like her in every way.

Course, whenever she imagined twins they were always like the ones from The Shining. Some would've used Mary Kate and Ashley, but Megan didn't. Any time she had thought about a twin of her own left her with something disturbed, a dark shape that seemed like a dark reflection of herself.

If this sounds odd, remember that she found out she had reality traveling powers and the first thing she did was hit someone with a lead pipe. (It had been just sitting there, was her defense.)

Megan could practically see that copy some days. A version of her where the hair wasn't curly, it was straight. The twin would have a wide smile, one that in the light of day was childish and delighted. As the sun set the smile would become darker, the smile suddenly revealing a dark quirk up.

Whenever she watched the episode Broken Mirror, Megan wondered again. When she Planned this trip of her's, she wondered more.

She had wondered if they would be identical or not. She always saw them as identical, the same face shape and long black hair (in her world, at least. Maybe it would vary in the others?) with maybe a few small differences. Megan could never point out that difference. In her mind, the twin was always an illusion. An idea that would never gain form. A doll that would never be given life.

And in those dark nights, when all Megan had to talk to was the cork boards she had so tirelessly worked on, Megan wanted a friend like that.

"Megan you gotta tell me how it went at the play!"

"You'll find, Penelope, that no I do not." Megan gave the tech analyst a wide smile, barely able to keep away the smug up quirk.

"The lovely Megan was promoted too soon. She doesn't have what it takes to make it in the BAU boys club. You're no threat to me, you're no threat to anyone."

Megan hid a smile from the BAU agents. She thought about all the coming unsubs, all the dangers that would be in the coming years.

He had no idea.

She called Spencer from the safe house. She made sure Cheryl was secure, that Shyer was out of sight, that whatever she said would be kept quiet. Megan was always so hyped up when this part of the episode came up- the small flashes of Derek being knocked down, that anticipation in your gut as you wondered if they would get to Cheryl in time.

It was still so early in the show that you hadn't really seen the BAU get any losses. Megan had seen ahead, knew that losses would happen someday. She always watched the first season with this sense of foreboding curiosity: when would that first loss come around?

Watching Derek kept thrown to the ground? Yeah that seemed like a foreboding hint of what was to come.

"The bug sweep. Spencer, the bugs sweep!" Megan spoke excitedly into the phone.

"What are you talking about?" Spencer asked.

"When we came, they did a bug sweep on the house." Megan explained, still just as excited. "It all makes sense!"

"Yeah, I remember." Spencer replied.

"And yet the unsub seems to know all about us. You know what non-local interaction is right?" Megan asked.

"What are you getting at?" Spencer asked.

"He can't be holding Trish prisoner and know what we're talking about when we're talking about it." Megan explained.

"I know what you're saying. There would have to be a listening device." Spencer reasoned. "They swept the room when we got here."

"Yeah. And then they brought in their own equipment." Megan explained.

Spencer was silent on the other end of the phone.

Megan could feel the air in the safe house shift.

Derek had gone down.

Megan had to move fast.

Megan snuck into Cheryl's room. Shyer had a knife aimed at Cheryl. The blonde looked thoroughly terrified at what was happening.

"Please don't do this." Cheryl begged. She had pressed herself as far against the wall as she could go.

Still, Shyer sat himself on Cheryl's bed. Not exactly a good look. "But this is how it should have been all along." Megan raised her gun towards the back of his head. "The three of us together."

"I would put the knife down." Megan advised.

Cheryl glanced away from Shyer to look at Megan. The New Haven agent tensed on the bed. The tension of a man about to attack if things didn't go smoothly. He rose up from the bed, raising his arms in a gesture of peace. He turned cautiously around to Megan. She kept the gun aimed at him.

"You don't understand." Shyer explained, calmly. His voice was slow and low, like someone explaining a complex subject to a screaming toddler. As though Megan was that screaming toddler. "You don't understand my relationship with these girls."

"You don't understand the relationship between my order and your knife." Megan stated. "Put it down."

"You don't understand-" Shyer repeated, becoming frustrated. His face twisted back into a snarl, seething at Megan's dismissal of him.

"I said put it down!" Megan ordered sternly. She narrowed her eyes at Shyer, daring him to challenge her here and now. Daring him to fight against him. Daring him to see just how well Megan played in the boy's club.

"You-" He stopped himself, no doubt ready to call Megan a bitch. "Ok." He started to lower the knife.

Megan was faster. She ducked down preemptively at Shyer's first strike. She did a swing kick for his legs, sending Shyer to his side. She spun around him to kick his legs out. The other agent fell to his back.

All in three seconds.

She looked towards Cheryl. The poor girl had herself pressed into a corner, watching it all while shaking like a leaf. "Are you okay?"

Cheryl swallowed, glancing down at the squirming Shyer, then nodded.

"Good." Megan moved her foot to just over Shyer's crotch. "Where is Patricia?"

She made sure to stomp her foot even after Shyer told them. She felt he deserved it.

"You know, Shyer didn't see you as a peer or a threat. That was his mistake." Derek noted to her.

Megan let someone see her smile that time. "Yes, it was."

Some days...Megan wondered if there would be a difference at all.

If she and her twin would be completely identical.

Staring down an opponent from the other end of a hall.

Challenging them to come and play.

Come play with the big girls.

She wondered...in times like that...who exactly was the darker twin.
