What the Other Doesn't Know
An Unexpected Vacation
"Well, princess, we're royally fucked!"
"Please don't curse," Kim admonished Shego lightly. The green skinned woman turned to her with a burning glare. It did nothing to help with the sweltering heat of this place.
"How could I not curse? I'm stuck on a deserted island! Who knows if I might ever make it back to civilization?"
"Don't be dramatic," Kim rolled her eyes. Honestly, the woman was behaving like a brat.
"I'm so not being dramatic. I'm being realistic. What am I even supposed to eat on this island? There's like one coconut tree!" The aforementioned coconut tree looked dry and in a sad state. Shego threw her hands up, distraught. It wasn't like her to care about things but the sun here had already wilted her hair, given her sunburn, and she had sand everywhere. It was annoying.
"There's more trees over there," Kim pointed down the beach where green lined the horizon.
"That's beside the point. How am I going to get off? And how are you not freaking out?"
"Because I know the organization is going to come looking for me. I just have to hold tight until then."
Shego snorted. "Yea, like they'd look for one measly teen."
Kim shrugged, not wanting Shego's sour mood to infect her. "Whatever. I so don't have time for this. I'm going to go and explore the rain forest and forage for some food." Kim trudged off, leaving Shego on the beach.
"Hey, you can't just leave me here!" she complained.
"I am," Kim shot back. Grumbling, Shego stomped after Kim, because she knew standing around and bemoaning things would make no difference. She'd find food and water, and then she'd use her powers to laser a help me sign into the sand so hopefully someone would see it. Kim lead the way into the cooler space, the branches casting out the glare of the sun.
"Be careful," Shego warned. "We don't know what wild animals there can be here."
"Scared?" Kim threw over her shoulder. Shego frowned at the taunt. "No, I'm not. I just don't want you to get gobbled up and then lose my only way off this island."
"I thought you thought the company wouldn't come to get me," Kim retorted.
Shego frowned harder. "Why are you in such...such an un-Kim like attitude today. Is it hormones?"
Kim gave the villainess next to her a glare this time. "It's all your fault."
"My fault!" Shego shrilled. "How?"
"I had to be stuck with you for hours in that hot locker. Anyone would be in a bad mood if that happened."
"It's not my fault I'm hot," Shego shrugged. "Now, what kind of food can we find? I'm hungry."
"I'm not sure, really," Kim answered. "I know some fruits might be around. But in terms of animals, I'm not sure. We'd have to make tools to capture them."
"Or I could do the whole glowy hands thing and wipe them out," Shego offered.
"We also need shelter."
"What, you don't want to crawl back into our locker?"
Kim sighed out, annoyed. "Why are you being so unhelpful?"
Shego cracked a grin. "Might as well. Nothing else to do."
"Survival, is something to do. Have you considered it?" Kim snapped back.
"Hm, I have. But unlike you, I don't want to stay around, waiting for your people to come get you. I'm a wanted criminal, or did you forget? I'll get arrested when they come. So, I'm trying to look for a way out," Shego said, looking over the trees and trying to figure out which ones would make a suitable raft.
Kim shook her head, stopping at a bush which carried edible fruit. "You wouldn't know even which direction to go."
Shego shrugged. "I'd figure it out. Can't be too hard."
"The ocean is vast, Shego," Kim said dryly as she bent down to gather the berries.
"Aw, didn't know you cared about me princess," Shego teased. She enjoyed the red flush that formed on Kim's cheeks.
"I do not!" she protested hotly.
"It's okay. I'm a grown woman. I can handle myself," Shego said. "I'll survive."
Yes, maybe Shego would. But Kim wasn't sure how she could survive on this island with no one but Shego and her relentless teasing. It had been bad enough being trapped in that locker with her. Kim could still feel the ghost of her body pressed against her and despite the midday heat, she shuddered. "Just help me pick these berries."
"Oo, a berry picking date. I always figured you were the type to go an extreme sports type thing as a first date. Weed out the week competition," Shego said and Kim shot her a glare. Shego really was going to test her, wasn't she? Figuring it wasn't worth getting into it, Kim said nothing and picked the berries.
Once they had collected them and washed them, they ate them, finding them to be very sweet and tasty. "We need to find shelter for the night," Kim announced, and they went off to find just that.
Well...it's no Five Star Hotel
"A stinky cave. Couldn't you do better?" Shego derided and Kim gave her what felt like the tenth glare in an hour.
"And what did you find?"
"I didn't bother to look," Shego pointed out proudly. "Because I'm not intending to stay out here on this island." Shego had already constructed her get away raft and was just waiting for the perfect weather to use it.
"Suit yourself," Kim grumbled. She was in no mood to be charitable to Shego especially after how Shego had annoyed her through out the whole day. "I'm going to go and make a help signal on the beach that'll get me noticed and rescued." And she strode off on that note, going to construct one out of kelp and rocks.
But as the hours passed, it turned into night, and both women were tired out by their long journey at sea. Shego, being stubborn, climbed up a tree, refusing to sleep in some damp cave. And when the next day arrived, instead of leaving on the raft, Shego found herself staying on the island. Delaying her disembarkation at first by a couple of hours and then the whole day. It felt wrong leaving Kim behind, even if they were enemies technically.
"I thought you couldn't wait to leave?" Kim questioned as she gathered firewood.
"The weather's not that great. Won't risk leaving on the raft tonight," she stated even though they were both aware that the sky was clear with the exception of one cloud. "Could rain," she tacked on.
Kim was silently relieved. Being stuck on an island by herself did not sound fun. Even if she knew she could handle herself, there was just something reassuring about Shego being there, even if she was annoying. "You need help with that?" Shego asked, as she watched Kim try to start the fire by rubbing the two sticks together. Only a sad plume of smoke emerged. Shego used her powers to light up the stacked wood, without even waiting for Kim to answer.
"Thanks," Kim said.
The two of them sat around the fire, waiting for the small rodent Kim had caught to cook.
"Is it me, or does this island keep getting hotter, day after day?" Shego asked, now forced to make her body suit into a tank top and shorts through cutting it up, because it was just so hot. Kim too had shed many layers of clothing and refused to look at Shego's body because well...she wouldn't trust herself to look away from it.
It was bad enough she had a crush on her arch nemesis, she could curb it if only Shego wore all her clothing. Now, however, she was wearing less and it was too tempting to look and drool at her toned muscles. Kim closed her eyes and told herself it wouldn't be long before she got rescued. Shego kept talking about leaving each day, but never actually did. It was sweet, her staying behind to keep Kim company even if she didn't outright say it.
Though, if this continued any longer than Kim would be tempted to join Shego on her raft and get out of here. It was already a week. How long did it take to find them? Where was Wade when she needed him?
"I wish we could get some rain or something," Shego added, fanning herself.
"I thought being hot didn't bother you?" Kim retorted without even thinking. It was just the heat was making her cranky and...other things she didn't want to think about or admit.
Shego's lips quirked up and she looked very much like Kim had just said something she'd wanted to hear for a long time. "Oh, it doesn't bother me. But it's bothering you."
Kim flushed at this. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"I think I do. You haven't been able to look at me for a while, princess. Do my clothing options bother you this much?" Shego purred, crawling across the sand to Kim who stiffened up. Ever since Shego had discovered how she felt for the spy, she decided she might as well toy with this and have some fun. Much to her joy, she could see that Kim wasn't as opposed to all of Shego's advances as initially the villainess thought.
How interesting. Could it be, that Kim felt something for her too? Shego really wanted to know.
"It's out of respect!" Kim suddenly blurted out, still not looking at Shego. "I don't wanna um, make you feel disrespected or anything..."
Shego snorted. "I'm already a villain. Disrespect is what I live in." She reached over and squished Kim's cheeks, turning the teen's head so she had to look at her. "You don't need to be so pure."
Kim flushed harder when her eyes dipped down, noted Shego's cleavage and shot back up. There was no way that Shego wouldn't notice this. A small spark of hope came to life in her chest. Was Kim feeling something for her too? Was it possible that they liked each other mutually?
Shego dropped Kim's face and shuffled back, turning her gaze back to the ocean and the horizon, empty save for some roiling thunderstorms heading their way. She didn't want to push Kim. She wanted Kim to discover her feelings on her own. Otherwise it would feel weird, like that Shego was corrupting Kim because she was a villain and not because she truly cared for Kim.
But even if Kim did discover her feelings, or come to terms with them, what did that mean for the two of them?
Shego sighed and listened to the silent lapping of the waves. Kim did the same next to her.
