Aftermath
Kim and Shego were saved from the island by Wade. He alerted some spies to come and find them. Previously he had also sent out drones that located Ron and Drakken and gotten to them first. Turned out they had been stuck on their own version of a deserted island. That couldn't have been pleasant at all. Kim's stay had been...sorta pleasant.
As she sat on the ship, wearing fresh clothes and sucking thoughtfully on the straw to a juicebox given to her, she ran through her thoughts. It had been pleasant being comforted by Shego in that manner. Who knew her caustic tongue could be so soft? That her mouth could be so right on Kim's? They had spent the night curled on the makeshift bed together as Shego kept Kim calm from the storm.
Despite how nice it felt, and how warm inside Kim felt about all of it, the fact remained she was filled with guilt. Kim shouldn't be feeling that way towards a villain. Towards her nemesis, which she had sworn to defeat and fight until the end of the world. And here Kim had been, allowing Shego to kiss her? What was wrong with her? Kim shouldn't do that. Shouldn't be falling for her enemy.
But she had. Kim could see it now. A lot more things were adding up and she hated how the addition made perfect sense where it hadn't before. The kiss had been the biggest missing piece to complete the equation and now Kim was left with the answer. One she didn't quite like but one which was correct. Even if it was wrong on a moral level.
Ron was talking her ear off in the seat next to her, about his mishaps and the horrible time he had had with Drakken, stuck on that tiny island. But Kim wasn't listening to him at all, sucking stressfully on her juicebox as she thought. And thought. And began to ruminate. Shego and Drakken had been locked up and were being held in the hull of the ship. They were going to be transported straight to jail.
Which...didn't feel right. Namely because Shego had said this would happen but had ended up staying on the island for Kim's sake. She wouldn't have been arrested otherwise and this...struck an odd chord inside Kim. Shego shouldn't be in trouble for helping Kim. Drakken, well whatever about him. But not Shego. Kim winced as she realized she was going soft. But it was just this one time, only because Shego had done her a big favor. There would be no more free hand outs.
After this they would go back to being enemies. Enemies who had kissed sure, but enemies.
With no benefits. None.
Strictly a working relationship.
Kim unbuckled herself, throwing away her finished box- she had sucked it dry.
"Kim, where are you going?" Ron asked but she didn't hear him at all. She made her way to the hull, holding onto the railing of the stairs as she went down, almost as if to bolster herself. She found Shego being held in a separate room from Drakken. Kim cautiously stood in the doorway, not even sure how she would carry this out. She could see the cameras from the corner of her eye. She would have to get rid of them if she wanted to free Shego. Shego, was sitting crossed legged on the floor, meditating. As if sensing Kim, she opened one eye.
"What's up, Princess?"
Kim's stomach turned, in a good way, on the familiar nickname.
No, bad body! Don't respond that way! She chastised herself internally.
"I came to make you an offer," Kim stated. Shego arched a brow, but didn't say anything.
Kim fought the urge to fidget. This all felt so new. Such new territory. And she didn't know how to act around Shego. But she would try to act normal.
"I...as a thank you, for you helping me on the island, I want to set you free." Kim gathered her courage and said all this.
Shego's other brow went up. "I'm sorry, am I hearing this correctly? You're busting me out?"
"Yes," Kim said, not backing down now. She knew the cameras couldn't see or hear her from here, but she would still have to disable them to free Shego. It would be no small feat.
"Why?" Shego's face was shocked. "Seriously? I'm the bad guy here!"
Kim sighed, irritated by Shego being the morally correct one this time. "Look, you wanna be free or not? it's almost like you want to go to jail."
Shego raised her hands, careful to not accidentally brush the electric bars of the cage. She'd been in too many cages to be that foolish to touch them. "No, I wanna be free. But, er, shouldn't I be the one breaking me out, instead of you breaking me out?"
"It's...a favor. For helping me on the island," Kim said, scuffing the floor with the toe of her shoe.
"Oh!" Shego's eyes grow larger before a smirk takes place on her lips. "Seriously, Princess, don't sweat it. I would have done that for like, any one of my enemies. Thunder is terrible. I used to be afraid of storms too, so like, I get it."
Suddenly Kim feels cold. Oh. So that hadn't meant anything to Shego at all. Kim thought they had something special, with all the fighting without actually hurting each other grievously, the in-jokes, the nicknames, and the way they had kissed. But, Shego had said she would do it for anyone. Would kiss anyone like that. Comfort them like that.
Kim wasn't special. She couldn't hide her disappointment about this. She didn't meet Shego's eyes as she spoke next. "Alright then, I won't bother you." And she left.
"Kimmie, wait!" Shego called out, watching the red head leave. Cursing under her breath, she got out of her yoga pose. "Damn it, she totally misunderstood what I said!" And now, she was going to have to break out of this cage sooner than she'd planned. Honestly, these cages were a joke. She let her hands glow green before breaking down the walls. Kim stopped when she heard the huge explosion behind her. She turned to see Shego running out of the room, stopping when she saw Kim was still there. An alarm over head that said Shego had escaped blared; she didn't have much time before they came for her.
"Look, Kim," she began. "I didn't mean it the way you took it. Sure, I may be evil, but what I meant is that if one of my friends was hurt or something, or scared, I'd comfort them. But I wouldn't kiss them. I only did that with you."
Kim's eyes widened, her breath catching in the back of her throat. Shego powered on.
"Because, I care for you. You're not just my nemesis. You're so much more," she said softly, just as a laser gun fired a beam over her head. Shego ducked and then rolled out of the way as more beams were fired at her. Kim looked over her shoulder to see that some guards had arrived and were standing on top of the stairs, grim faced.
"Contain the breach!"
"Get Shego back in!"
Ron was squeezing through them, worried for Kim. "Kim, are you okay?!" he called down to her, making a pained grunt when he got accidentally elbowed in the ribs.
"Yea, I'm fine!" She turned back to see Shego had effectively blasted a hole in the side of the ship. The wind sucked hungrily at her hair.
"Smell ya later, losers!" she shouted out and then jumped. Kim's heart jumped at the sight of this.
"Shego!" she ran over to the hole, careful to hold onto the edge so she wouldn't fall out. Shego had jumped! She was crazy, that was so dangerous! How would she even survive the fall?
But as Kim looked, Shego's figure, wrapped in a protective green ball of her powers, dropped down.
She disappeared behind a cloud, and then was lost to Kim's sight.
"Kim, you okay?" Ron put a hand on her shoulder, but it only added to the feeling of weight on her shoulders. Her stomach was a mix of feelings. Shego cared for her, but what future would their relationship have? This little scene just proved it. That no matter what, Kim was the hero, and Shego the villain. That's how it had always been, and perhaps, how it always would.
A/N: Summer's here, so I'm gonna try and update this more frequently. Try, being the key word.
