School Days
Kim sat down eagerly at her desk for the first day of class, Ron faithfully taking the desk by her side. This was it, her first day of her last year of high school and then it would be off to college, getting to experience new things. She wondered who their teacher would be for this class. They'd heard it was supposed to be a new teacher, given their old one had retired over the summer. But anything else about the teacher was unknown. Almost like they were a mystery.
But as she took out her pen and notebook to diligently take notes, the teacher walked in. And Kim's jaw dropped open.
Shego strode into the room, wearing a proper suit and skirt combo in tan. Her hair was long and sleek and had a headband on top, with her bangs gently swept to the side. She carried folders under arms and settled them down at the podium. "Welcome class," she said, her voice sounding sweet and chipper and nothing like the sarcastic or threatening growls Kim was used to hearing from her.
Was Kim dreaming? But no, she pinched herself and found herself wide awake. Then...was this just someone who looked similar to Shego but wasn't actually her? But how many Shego look a likes could there be? No, what was going on?
Kim tried to catch Shego's eye but couldn't manage to. Just what was the woman playing at? Her heart stuttered in her chest as she didn't know what to do now that her crush was back. She looked over at Ron to see if he noticed anything was different. "Ron," she whispered. "Something's up with the teacher." He squinted at the teacher in hyper focus, nodding his head solemnly after he finished staring at her. So he saw it too! It really must be Shego and not just someone who looked like her. He leaned over to Kim and said, "wow, she looks real pretty," before going to his notes.
Real helpful, Ron, she thought sarcastically.
Maybe Kim was being too imaginative? But as she turned to look up at her new teacher, who was giving a spiel about herself, she met Kim's eyes for the first time and winked. Kim sat up straight right away. It definitely was Shego!
Oh, she was going to have so many words with her after class.
Class seemed to drag on by after that discovery, and Kim watched every move of Shego's with hawk-like precision to see if she would slip out of line. But her facade held and then class was over. "Go on ahead without me Ron," Kim told him. "I just have to ask the teacher to clarify my homework."
"Alright KP. But don't take too late, or you'll miss our next class." The room emptied out and then it was just Shego and Kim. Shego was humming under her breath, pretending to look through her files.
"A word, please," Kim said to her and Shego looked up, studying Kim's face before she nodded her head, examined the room to be empty enough and allowed herself to lead out to the side where it was quieter and private.
"You're my teacher now?" Kim exclaimed as the two of them stood off to the side.
Shego had her arms crossed over her chest and a hip jutting out to her side. In her villain costume it would have looked devastatingly evil and hot, which Kim could admit to openly now. But as it was, given her teacher outfit, she only looked like a cross...well, teacher.
"Why did you do that? You don't strike me as being a good teacher."
"Hey, I spent good money getting an actual educational degree so I could work here!" Shego said, getting offended.
"But why? You...what is this about? Is this about us?" Kim asked and before Shego could answer, Kim spoke up once more. "You told me things wouldn't work out between us-"
"And that shocked you? You were a spy, Kimmie. And a good guy. I was neither of those. Did you honestly think anything could come out of it?" Shego poised and though she had a point, Kim would have liked to think otherwise.
"I could have convinced you to the good side, I know it-"
"You put too much credit on that. Did you know the good side has terrible health insurance? Bad guys get better coverage."
"Only because the good guys kick their ass so much," Kim pointed out, making Shego scowl. "Shego, did you quit your career? Why become a teacher? What is this really about?"
Shego sighed out and pushed a lock of black hair behind her ear. "Kim, just butt out of it, okay?"
"I have a right to know!" Kim exclaimed. "I haven't seen you in nearly a year, and I thought the worst happened to you!"
"Oh, were you worried about little ol' me?" Shego purred and Kim found herself flushing at the tone.
"Yes," she admitted in an embarrassed tone. "Though I thought it was obvious with the way I admitted to liking you. Why shouldn't I care what happens to you?"
Shego leaned in, a smirk on her lips. "How adorable, princess."
"Seriously, will you tell me or not?" Kim goaded.
"No," Shego leaned back, slipping into a serious mode. "And if you ask me again, I will give you detention."
Kim gasped at this. "You wouldn't!"
"I would."
"On what grounds?"
"On the grounds you are being disrespectful to your teacher and not listening to her," Shego said smugly.
"As if they would believe that. They know I'm a good student!"
"Oh, really," Shego popped up her eyebrow. "Would they be saying that if they knew that you beat up people around the world?"
"For a good cause!" Kim defend, growing flustered again.
"is any violence ever, ever good?" Shego suggested. "Think about it, and write me an essay on it."
"What!" Kim balked, jaw falling open. "You can't do that!"
"Yes, I can. I'll fail you if you don't do it. Now, if you excuse me, I have tests to grade."
"It's only the first day of school!" Kim called out after Shego who had already left.
Grumbling, Kim hurried to the cafeteria to join Ron.
Having Shego in the school was an odd experience. Any second, Kim expected her to reveal some nefarious scheme and cause a fight to break out among the rows of desks. But maybe that was Kim's problem. Maybe she was so stuck in the old mindset of them being enemies that she couldn't see Shego as someone genuinely trying to reform and be a productive member of society again.
Still, that didn't stop Kim from spying on her.
She spied on her while Shego graded papers in the classroom. She spied on her when Shego went to the teacher's lounge to get food. She spied on her when Shego taught her classes. All while hiding expertly of course. Shego had no idea that Kim was spying in on her.
"Seriously, yes I do know you're spying on my and you need to stop," Shego told her as Kim was leaving the classroom. This was said so only the two of them could hear it as they passed each other by.
"I am not!" Kim shrilled.
"I wasn't born yesterday. Stop lying," Shego retorted and Kim flushed red. Well, that had been a failure. Eventually, Kim turned to Ron who had been also noticing her off brand behavior.
"She's Shego!" Kim told Ron with mild exasperation. Ron put his chin in his hand, rubbing thoughtfully. "She does look a bit like her," he agreed. "But it's not her. For one, she's way too nice. She even complimented me in class once!"
"Ron seriously. She outright told me after class that she was Shego and she was hiding out here."
"Are you sure? Are you sure you're not just seeing enemies in random places because you're going through spy withdrawal?"
"Spy withdr- Ron, that is the silliest thing I have ever heard. I am not going through withdrawal! I am perfectly fine."
"I dunno. You seem jumpy and stuff. And kinda obsessed with the new teacher. I know she's pretty, and she's kind and nice, and she looks like Shego so maybe you're projecting-"
Kim threw her hands up in the air with a growl. Ron was useless! "Forget it," she told him and decided that she would find a way to sneak into Shego's house and finally confront her about what she truly was doing here. Because one of the worst parts about this was that Shego was here and Kim wanted...wanted to kiss her really badly. She had missed Shego. A lot actually. And seeing Shego in front of her, rambling about calculus was just so cute, and domestic, and Kim really wanted to kiss her. Because she looked amazing.
Now that Kim had come to terms with her feelings, it was hard to ignore them, and they ached in her chest like a hunger that would not go away. So, Kim had to settle things once and for all with Shego. Had to find out what they should do with each other, while they still had the time and the chance.
School Daze
Kim followed Shego from school. Donning a disguise that consisted of baggy jeans and a huge hoodie to hide her face, Kim followed Shego as she took the bus to her house, thirty minutes away from the school. It was a normal looking house and while Shego entered in through the front door, Kim snuck in through an open window in the back. it was good to see her spy skills weren't rusty despite not using them for a while.
She followed the sound of a TV that Shego must have turned on as she took off her heels, and her suit jacket to relax for the day. She went into the kitchen to brew some coffee and Kim watched from behind the curtain she was hiding in, as she did. Shego was making two cups and that was how Kim knew she'd been found out before Shego even said anything.
Sighing, for maybe Kim's skills indeed were rustier than she thought, she slipped out, tugging her hoodie down. Her face was flushed from being in the too warm hoodie and from the embarrassment of being caught. "What gave it away?"
"The fact that I know you too well Kimmie," Shego answered, not even turning around. The coffee finished brewing and Shego poured it in. "How do you take it?"
"With milk."
Shego added milk and then handed Kim her mug. "Join me on the couch?" she suggested and Kim wordlessly followed her over. They plopped down, on two opposite ends. "So, will you finally tell me what this is all about?" Kim gestured wildly to Shego's professional look. Shego took a sip of her hot drink before she took the head band off and shook her hair out, giving it that wild look that Kim was so used to. Her stomach twisted at the sight of it and she ignored that fact.
"I already told you, I'm trying to make a decent living?"
"Why the sudden change? Is this because of us?"
"If I tell you it is, will it make you feel better?" Shego asked, lounging against the arm of the couch. There was a different air to her, like somehow something fundamental inside her had changed. But what?
Kim could say the same about herself. She felt different too, like that summer had let her grow and become more mature. And yet, despite feeling more mature, she still felt so...so young. Like not fighting Shego on the battlefield made her realize how Shego was a human and Kim was a human too, and how they had personalities outside of that. Wants, and needs, and desires.
She almost felt shy, around Shego now. Maybe because she knew they liked each other?
"To be honest, I don't know..." Kim said, running a finger on the rim of the drink. "I just...I feel something has changed between us. And I don't know where to go from here. Are we enemies? Friends? Or...or something else?" She wanted to say lovers but quickly found she wasn't brave enough for that.
Shego chuckled at this. "Princess, you didn't tell me you were into student teacher relationships."
Kim flushed. "I'm not!" she defended. "I just...I just want to know what's going to happen with us."
"I'll be frank. I didn't really plan this out this well," Shego admitted. "I wanted to...I wanted to change my life. I wanted to turn it around. Villainy got boring for me. Surrounded by idiots on all hours of the day. I wanted to go out and make something of my own. Redeem myself maybe. So I took the path of a teacher, because I knew teachers often give back to the community a lot. And also because I knew I could get close to you. And I just wanted to keep an eye on you and keep you safe."
"But I saw through your disguise," Kim pointed out.
"I wasn't exactly being subtle," Shego murmured, taking another sip of her coffee.
"It's sweet you did all this. That you wanted to change," Kim said, because it really was. Now with both of their pasts behind them, could they finally move forward into something they both wanted?
"I may have tried to change, but there's still a part of me that really wants to kiss you right now, despite knowing I'm your teacher and we could get into so much trouble," Shego told her brazenly and Kim's stomach did a flip. She wanted that too. "Maybe I should have picked a different career path instead of being a teacher. It might have been easier for me to be with you."
Kim could feel the blood rushing through her veins as set down her mug on the floor carefully. Shego watched her with an arched brow but didn't say anything. Kim felt like she was going to burn up with embarrassment but went on with this, because she had waited too damn long for this moment, and who knew when she would get another chance. "Maybe you shouldn't try to fight the temptation," Kim said, as she crawled over on the couch to Shego whose eyes were growing big. "Maybe you should just do it," Kim breathed out across Shego's lips. Kim knew her hair and her face must be matching shades right now, but she didn't quite care.
Shego smiled a slow, dangerous thing. "Well no one can say I was ever good at resisting the urge to steal the prettiest gem in the room." Her mug too was placed down and then her hands were on Kim's hips as they kissed, loudly and soundly.
Oh, this was just what Kim had missed and needed most. A part of her couldn't believe she was doing this, that she was kissing her once arch-nemesis. Her eyes slip closed and her arms go around the back of Shego's neck, tugging her in more. Kim's body feels hot all over. She's never felt this overwhelmed by anything before. She wants more of it. Shego makes to pull away but Kim chases her lips and falls on top of her in the process, one hand dropping down to rest over her stomach which quivers under the touch.
"Mm," Shego breathes out, her eyes half lidded with arousal. Using her physical strength she flips them around so Kim is on the bottom and Shego is hovering over her, their lips not parting during the move. Kim gasps at the sudden motion and Shego swallows up her gasp. An eternity passes under Shego's body until it's broken by the crash of something breaking outside. Shego jerks up, senses wary, but Kim doesn't want her to leave yet. Doesn't want to give up this warmth. She tugs Shego's face back to hers and eventually Shego melts back into her.
Outside, Ron is crouched under the window next to a knocked over trash can, his hands over his mouth.
What the hell is going on?
A/N: I wanna say thanks to those of you who have stuck by this story. It's taken about three years to get to this point, but we're finally in the endgame :)
