Chapter 20
After my official appointment as Demon King and member of the Octagram, I was officially granted Avalon Island as my territory and Rimuru and I received a Demon's Ring, a ring with which we could communicate with the other Demon Kings in any place or circumstance.
Once all the official acts were over, Misery and Rein, Guy's maids, prepared a big dinner for all of us. Some of the Demon Kings like Valentine and Leon left immediately, while the rest of us decided to stay and enjoy the food. Each of the dishes was delicious and I used Raziel to analyze each one and reproduce it when I got back home. It seemed to me that Rimuru was doing the same. Then we sat down at the table, and Rimuru offered us some of the brandy that Tempest distilled. I knew what he was doing. He was showing his best quality products to the other Demon Kings, who would no doubt speak in their home countries about the quality of Tempest's products. Seeing how Rimuru was chatting with the others, I decided to talk to him about possible trade routes between our countries.
"Congratulations on your victory over Clayman." – I told Rimuru, as I sat down next to him.
"Thank you. It was quite a surprise to see you here. I didn't know you were a Demon King." - Rimuru replied.
"I had recent problems with humans. They decided to attack me; I defended myself." - I told him.
"Very similar to what happened with me. I can see that you made it to the island safely, and that the island is thriving." – Rimuru said, looking at my outfit. "Those clothes are like having Legendary-class armor."
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about. Our city is already producing quality goods. I have heard that Tempest has very good trade and economic relations with various countries. As the King of my own country, I would like to make a Non-Aggression Treaty and a Free Trade Agreement between our countries." – I told him.
"Hmm. What would be the benefits for Tempest, in this Free Trade Agreement?" - Rimuru asked me.
"We would give Tempest priority in the purchase of any product over any other country, as it is our first commercial partner. There would also be a substantial price reduction, and access to certain special products that would not be available to the rest of the world."
"What kind of Products are we talking about?" - he asked me.
"I heard that Tempest doesn't have access to a port, and getting fish is very difficult for you. On our island, it is currently our main source of food. There are countless fish-like monsters on our shores." – I commented, and I used the Ultimate Skill Ramiel, to extract a metal box approximately two meters long and wide. "This is another of the products that we will offer to other countries." – I said, pointing to the box, while I opened it.
Upon opening the box, a cold mist arose from it, revealing the frozen interior in which there were various frozen products.
"Is that a refrigerator?" - Rimuru asked, surprised.
"It is. I designed it myself, using a Magisteel core and engraving magic to freeze the interior. By changing the flow of magicules you can change the temperature, and you don't need to recharge its magicules constantly, as it absorbs magicules from the environment." – I explained. "Is for you. Take it as a sample of the products that Avalon can produce."
Then, I proceeded to take out the items I wanted to present to Rimuru. A package of Spear Toro's meat, a cheese and a jar of milk from Bulldeers, and one of the finest wines made at the Avalon Distillery. I also showed him samples of the fabrics and clothes made by Aracne.
Our exchange also seemed to have attracted the attention of the other Demon Kings, who also seemed to be interested in trading with Avalon, especially Carrion and Frey.
"But how do you plan to ship the products? Many of them would spoil if they're teleported, and it's very dangerous to navigate the waters around the island." - Rimuru asked me.
"I plan to build a space gate in my city that connects to yours, if you grant me permission. I'm still working out some issues to make such an artifact possible, but I found a way to temporarily fix the transportation issue meanwhile." - I told him. "Remember the Megalodons that attacked Tempest alongside Charybdis? Well, they had a skill called "Gravitational Flight" which allowed them to fly by manipulating gravity. Thanks to me possessing one of them, I got the summoning magic to summon them, so while we were building ships to sail around the island, we also built some special airships with gravity magic which can be pulled by the megalodons as if they were horse carriages. These airships are huge, and can move large numbers of people and goods. It is true that they spend a large amount of magicules, but that is not a problem at the moment due to the high concentration of magicules in the ocean around the island, which is what has generated such powerful sea monsters." - I explained.
We talked some more and Rimuru agreed to sign the treaties I proposed to him. We would meet at Tempest at a later date for the official signing.
Once we finished ironing out the details, it was time to go. The Walpurgis had taken almost a full day. We said goodbye to everyone and I used Ramiel to teleport us to Avalon.
The day after we returned to Avalon, I convened my council again, and used the Ultimate Skill Grigori's projection skill to show all of the events that occurred during the Walpurgis, including Clayman's defeat at the hands of Rimuru.
"So, it's finally over." – Tuatha said, relieved.
"It is. Clayman can no longer do any more damage to anyone. There are still those Harlequins, but I doubt they'll pose much of a threat, now that they don't have Clayman." – I told Tuatha.
"Do you know who will take over the Clayman domains?" – She asked.
"Looks like it will be Milim who will control it now."
"Demon King Milim... from what I've heard, she doesn't really like having subordinates, or ruling a country... Lord Rogan, can I please ask you for something?" - Tuatha asked me.
"Sure, what do you want?" – I asked.
"Can I contact the Dark Elves and Majin who reside in Clayman's domain? And perhaps offer them shelter here on the island?" – she asked me.
"Of course. If they want to join us, I have no problem. More than half of the houses in the city are empty due to lack of population, so space is not a problem." - I replied.
"I'll get to it immediately." – said Tuatha, excited.
Three days after my conversation with Tuatha, I was in my basement examining the growth of the eggs I had created with "Kin Maker". This skill, had evolved into an Ultimate Skill using the energy gathered from the sacrifice of Clayman's unique skill, and had become the Ultimate Skill Familiar King Legion, which had the following sub-skills:
Hatch: Allows the creation of eggs from which later weaker creatures of the same species will hatch. These creatures do not have souls or egos of their own.
Soul Manipulation: Allows the creation of souls through the creation of a spiritual body using magicules and the implantation of an artificial intelligence as the core. It also allows editing any part of a soul already owned by the user.
Soul Recovery: Allows the user to automatically recover the soul of a subordinate in case of destruction of the physical body.
Mastermind: Allows you to exercise control over all creatures created with this Skill.
Chimeric Breeding: Allows the user to change some details and properties of the creatures the user creates. Aspects as size, appearance, number of limbs, intrinsic skills, resistances and amount of magicules can be determined before birth.
The eggs were growing at a great rate, and in just two more days they would be ready to finally hatch. I was examining the Kraken's egg, which had grown to reach the basement ceiling, when I received a "Thought Communication" from Tuatha, requesting an audience with me. With a couple of thoughts, I teleported to my office and told her to come in.
When Tuatha entered the office, she was accompanied by four strangers. One of them was a Dark Elf like her, but the others were not creatures I was familiar with.
"Lord Rogan, this is Lorcan." – Tuatha said, pointing to the Dark Elf. "He is the leader of a group of Dark Elves who wish to leave the domains that belonged to the Demon King Clayman and join our kingdom."
"It is an honor, Lord Rogan." - Lorcan said, bowing.
"And these are the chiefs of small tribes of Majins who also wish to join us." – Tuatha said, pointing to the other three visitors.
"An honor, Lord Rogan. Unfortunately, I have no name, but I am the leader of a small tribe of Garudas who wish to join you." – said one of the visitors. His body was humanoid, but his ears were pointed like those of elves, and wings of black feathers sprouted from his forearms.
"It is an honor for me too, Lord Rogan. I am also nameless, like many monsters. I am the leader of a tribe of Brownies and if you allow us to join your city, I promise that it will always be clean!" – said the second guest. She was also humanoid in shape, but her height barely reached my waist and her body was a bit chubby. I had heard of these creatures; supposedly, they were obsessed with cleaning everything.
"It's an honor for me too, I guess. I don't have a name either. I lead a tribe of Gremlins, and we're looking for a place to live. Tuatha convinced us to come and serve you." – The third visitor told me, a little reluctantly. Its appearance was very similar to the Goblins I had seen in Tempest, but its skin had a gray coloration, as if it were made of rock or metal. According to Raziel, the Gremlins were distant relatives of the Goblins, but much more intelligent and were especially good with things like technology and experiments.
"It is a pleasure to meet you all. I am Rogan, the King of Avalon. As long as you abide by the laws and rules of my kingdom, you are welcome to stay." - I told them.
Hearing this, they seemed to relax a bit. They seemed to be worried that I was going to kick them out or something. The four factions gathered in total, about ten thousand creatures who wanted to join our kingdom. Although there was plenty of space in the city, this sudden increase in population forced us to postpone our plans to expand to the rest of the island a bit, in order to build enough houses for everyone. But thanks to this, we also now had abundant manpower to fill all the jobs in the city.
Of the new Dark Elves, which numbered approximately seven hundred, about two hundred joined our army, while the others decided to help with the fields and animals, in addition to any other work in the city. I chose ten of them and assigned them to Hiroka to train them in the art of espionage.
The Garuda, numbering approximately two hundred in number, went on to train to become Avalon's primary air force.
The Brownies, about twenty of them, opted for domestic work such as cleaning the city, and the community kitchen.
The Gremlins, about seventy of them, I assigned to Yoshi, to support his experiments and also to help Dorian and the others.
With the arrival of our new citizens, Avalon was starting to become the kingdom of my dreams.
