Written in about an hour and for those who want to know, this is about a week before Emma is attacked by the ABB, take that for what you will.
Getting the crystal forge had been somewhat tedious I admit, mostly because I had to go through dad's channels to acquire it and that led directly to him asking why I wanted it. It was a bit odd I'll admit that I felt it best to keep my powers hidden from him while I was completely content with mom being aware of them; but on that note dad would force me to join the Wards for 'my own good' and mom more or less very politely said 'fuck the police,' to such thoughts.
Former Lustrum lieutenant and all, mom could always be trusted to look at things pragmatically, thus why she left the movement when her sisters in arms started mutilating men at random for…reasons? She never really clarified what the others in her organization thought they'd accomplish with such actions and in all likelihood she probably didn't get it either, thus her bowing out.
Regardless in the end I managed to talk dad into helping me acquire the forge via quite a bit of enthusiastic gushing about the idea of growing my own pretty crystals, sulking over the fact that I couldn't currently grow my own pretty crystals, and quite a bit of pouting.
Mom found my antics hilarious and just waited on the sidelines until dad finally caved in and got me the damn thing; seriously it was easier to cajole Toybox for power cells than this had been. At least all those had cost me was blueprints to some low end Czerka tech repulsor lifts, something Revan's holocron found highly amusing.
Moving on! I had my forge, I had my silicate base powder and various other chemicals gathered, and after following the very thorough instructions from Revan I had the furnace set up and was ready to begin.
"You're nervous."
Way to state the obvious sensei.
"Yes," I replied in kind, Revan nodded at this as he watched me flick a finger at the switch across the room activating the furnace.
"Remember as you enter your meditation, you must focus on your ideals, your hopes, your dreams, your very will itself, and pour that into the life being born before you. That is after all what your focus crystal is, it may not be sapient, it may not be sentient, but the crystal that grows under your influence is alive, and directly reflects who you are."
I nodded and muttered, "Yes…all right," then sat in the lotus position before closing my eyes, and fell into the full power and beauty of the Force.
A direct reflection of myself, well then, who was I?
I am Taylor Anne Hebert, daughter of Daniel and Annette Hebert, best friend of Emma Barnes, apprentice of Revan, and future…what?
That had my brow furrowing, I had just turned fourteen, I had my entire life ahead of me still but this…this seemed important. Revan had taught me the Je'daii code first, followed by the Jedi, than the Sith, and I can honestly say none of it really defined who I was.
Letting the Force flow through me I channeled my uncertainty into the furnace while further reflecting, and decided that as polarizing as it could be the Je'daii code was the one that I felt most comfortable with.
"There is no ignorance, there is knowledge." I know there are things I still need to learn.
"There is no fear, there is power." The Force is always there to draw upon.
"I am the heart of the Force." The Force is a living breathing thing and I am a living breathing thing therefore I am at the heart of the Force.
"I am the revealing fire of light". I am of the Light.
"I am the mystery of darkness." I am of the Dark.
"In balance with chaos and harmony, Immortal in the Force." Both Light and Dark are my allies I will scorn neither; I will die and join the Force someday.
It honestly brought me a sense of peace, and I continued to pour my will, my resolve, my utter determination into the growing crystals and sort of…lost myself as I reached a state of Zen that I'm fairly certain would on a regular basis require some high end drugs.
I sat there, for hours, mom knew not to interrupt me thankfully, and dad was so busy with the Union he couldn't be bothered to notice my absence regardless. You're welcome for tearing that ship out of the inlet and thus reopening shipping to the bay dad, I was only dropping hints that I did that for like six months and holy shit no I wasn't bitter in the slightest!
My brows furrowed and I focused on the task at hand, eventually I snapped out of it, eyes blinking rapidly as I looked about the now darkened room and soon groggily stood up stumbling towards the bathroom. After relieving myself and then drinking three glasses of water from the tap I reentered my bedroom and with a hint of trepidation popped the lid on the furnace and gasped as I took in the beauty before me.
Every inch of the furnace was covered in large, luminous, exquisitely perfect violet coloured crystals. I couldn't have suppressed my grin if I tried, shakily I extended my hand and let the Force flow through me, eventually two of the largest crystals snapped from the formation and rose up to my hand. A moment later they were resting in my palm and they just felt so right.
These crystals…they were an extension of me, and…damn…I just did not know how to put that in words but they were perfect, blinking rapidly I rushed to my desk and began putting the various parts scattered on it together. The base hilts had actually been the easiest bits to put together, Kurt was glad to show me how to use the docks lathe and the leather hand grips were rather self explanatory . Regardless, it took a matter of minutes to have it all put together, snapping the now assembled hilt together forming a short staff I took in a slow breath and smiled.
This was it.
Double clicking both power studs there was a distinctive snap hiss as the room was now enveloped in violet light. Grinning I stared down at the blades of pure energy, then began spinning the staff saber about me in well practiced katas, eventually twisting the hilt allowing it to break apart into two separate blades. Spinning them about myself I couldn't help giggling as I reattached them then deactivated the blades with a satisfied sigh.
A few moments later the Holocron on my desk activated and my sensei looked to be most pleased, "Well done Taylor, well done indeed. Now that you are properly armed are you intending to go wander about hoping to encounter fools causing trouble? I will not judge, as they say I have been there and done that."
I was silent for a time then nodded, "I…have to clear it with mom first, but yeah, I think I'm ready to cause some trouble."
Revan grinned, "Well, who am I to dissuade the next generation from having a bit of fun. Your capes all have names to hide their personal lives though, have you put any thought in what you shall call yourself?"
I stared down at the weapon in my hand, ruminated over the stories I had been told by my mom and sensei, and then nodded.
"Yeah, they'll call me Sentinel."
