Chapter 12: Interview with a Pirate Boy
Everyone had accepted that Haru didn't enter himself in… well everyone in Hogwarts that wasn't Slytherin. Many people started to remember was that was written as Harry Potter, which was something people almost forgot about.
Word also spread that Haru was looking forward to the fun.
"What do you mean that he eats monsters for breakfast?" asked Fleur trying to information why Haru thought it was fun.
"Actually they're called Sea Kings and they're really good." Said Nojiko, "They're sea monsters that are native to where we live… and sometimes we eat dinosaurs…"
Fleur was stunned, she had heard of Dinosaurs from some Muggle-Borns.
"But aren't they extinct?" asked Fleur.
"Not where we're from." Answered Nojiko.
Fleur just sat there then stared at Haru.
"People think it will kill him…" said Fleur.
"Yeah… not going to happen." Replied Nojiko.
Fleur wondered what she had gotten into.
Viktor on the other hand didn't care anything about Haru.
Of course there was a crew meeting on the ship about the tri wizard tournament.
"Do you think Haru can handle it?" asked Nami.
"I think the better question is why someone would think Haru would die form this?" asked Robin.
"Haru's going to win." Laughed Luffy, "Hands down."
However that laugh did turn to a cough, but everyone ignored his laughing but Chopper, Luffy brushed him off saying he was fine.
"Really the only one we have to worry about is the second trial, as they said Haru could use things from the ship…" said Hancock.
"Let's worry about that later." Said Luffy.
"Yeah Luffy's right, he's going to be fine." Said Sirius.
Over the course of the next coulee weeks, Draco created buttons that said "Support Cedric Diggory the REAL Hogwarts Champion." Which then switched to "Monkey Stinks"
However several other students took this idea and decided opt make buttons for various other students, some simply said "Support Cedric Diggory" others said "Team Cedric" (Cedric didn't know why but those ones made him feel uncomfortable) there were even "Support Haru D. Monkey" "Go! Haru" and the rather funny one "Support Haru" which switched to "Yes Monkeys stink but what does that to do with anything?" There was also the natural "Support Hogwarts".
Needless to say "Monkey Stinks" was only worn by Slytherins.
One Day during potions however Colin came into the room.
"Excuse me Pro. Snape, Haru needed to leave because of something called the Weighing of the Wands." Said Colin.
Pro. Snape looked at Haru who looked like he was having a hard time with his potion today.
"Fine take him." Muttered Pro. Snape.
"Yay!" said Haru leaving with Colin.
The two went to an empty classroom, the other champions were there along with the judges of the competition.
That was when he a cameraman take pictures him, and a blonde woman with glasses staring at him.
"Oh so you must be Harry Potter." Said the woman.
"Please don't' call me that." Said Haru.
"Then what should I call you?" asked the woman.
"Haru D. Monkey." Said Haru.
"Haru?" asked the woman, "What's the difference between that and Harry?"
"Haru means spring." Said Haru.
That was when Ludo Bagman showed up.
"Ah Haru, I see you met Rita Skeeter." Said Ludo.
Haru stared at the woman, he knew that name before then it clicked.
"Oh I heard of you, you're that woman who writes terrible stories about people..." said Haru.
Rita sighed.
"Can I conduct an interview?" asked Rita, "To make things more colorful."
"Sure why not…" said Haru, "Everyone knows I didn't enter myself anyways maybe everyone will know why I'm doing this…"
She blinked… "Sure you didn't." she said.
"I'm doing it all for fun in fact I'm giving up the prize money if I win to the runner up. I don't need the money anyways." Said Haru.
Her glasses began to slip from her face.
"Does anyone know that you're giving away the money?" she asked.
"Everyone in the school." Said Haru.
She sighed… it was going to be extremely difficult to spin that in a way she wanted.
"So can we have some privacy to get the interview started?" she asked.
"I thought it already started." Said Haru blinking.
She heard roomers that talking to him drove Fudge to drink… It might be true.
They went into a broom closest to privacy and Rita Skeeter ran a test on her quill which wrote itself but Haru didn't pay attention.
"So tell me Haru. Why did you enter yourself into the tournament," said Rita.
"I didn't." said Haru, "I couldn't even if I tried, I couldn't get past the age line and I couldn't use my portals thanks to the sea stone."
"Now… wait? Sea Stone what's that?" asked Rita.
"Oh yeah you don't know… you see Sea Stone is a rock from where I raised that nullifies Devil Fruit Powers…"
"So you sold your soul to the Devil?" asked Rita.
"No I ate a Devil Fruit. They're fruits that give powers to the eater but they're really gross and I can't swim because of it." Said Haru.
"Oh that's how you have to those powers." Said Rita.
"But I'm not allowed to use them in the Tournament to keep things fair." Sid Haru.
"I see but you are aware people have died." Said Rita.
"Yeah but from what I heard it's not that bad, I mean I dealt with worse last summer." Said Haru.
"What do you mean you dealt with worse?" asked Rita.
"Well I didn't tell anyone else yet but during the summer when we were giving Sirius a tour of our world we accidently ended in a bad part of the Calm Belt. Giant Sea Kings were everywhere. But managed opt kill a few… even kept some of the meat." Said Haru.
"Sea Kings?" asked Rita.
"Oh they're kind of like sea serpents but really, really vicious and some have been known to eat ships whole." Said Haru.
"And you killed some…" Rita asked in shock.
"Yep!" said Haru.
"And you ate some…" said Rita.
"Well I don't know if any of the ones I killed when to the meat stockpile but yes…" said Haru.
Rita blinked and knew of a way to get the interview on track.
"Do you think the trauma in your past will make you keen to prove yourself in the tournament." Said Rita.
"Trauma? What trauma?" asked Haru.
"The Trauma of loosing your parents?" asked Rita.
"But I don't remember my birth parents. All I remember are the ones who adopted me…" said Haru, "But I still hear stories about them and how they loved me."
"But I'm sure they're murder…" said Rita.
"I just want to talk about the Tournament not about that…" said Haru.
"But with you know who…" said Rita.
"He doesn't hold a candle to my dad's enemies." Said Haru, "He's not a threat at all…"
"What?" asked Rita.
Rita didn't even notice that her Quick Quotes Quill had stopped writing after saying "Que?"
"Look Moldy Shorts isn't a threat." Said Haru.
"What?" asked Rita.
The quill wrote one more simple phrase before compete stopping.
"Can he turn into lava?" asked Haru then took a breath when he said this part "Can he both cause earthquakes with a single wave or turn to a black hole?"
"No…" mumble Rita.
"Then how is he a threat? All he does is kill people withy magic… anyone with magic can do that!"
That was when the door opened and it was Pro. Dumbledore.
"Ah Haru we're begging." Said Pro. Dumbledore.
He saw the state that Rita was in… she was gaping and her glasses were falling off.
"I think the interview is over." Said Haru.
He got up to join.
Haru closed the door on where and that was when she managed to regain her senses.
She knew she had to at her notes.
At first they were normal even talking about how with Devil Fruits he sold his soul… then it got to the part about the Sea Kings.
"Wait is he talking about how he eats ship eating monsters? He eats monsters? How can he eat monsters?"
This went on for a while then it got to "Que?" which if she remember her Spanish correctly meant "What?"
The rest of the pages were blink expect for one things "That's it… I quit."
"He broke the quill." Cried Rita.
Inside the class room, they met up with Ollivander with the weighing of the wands, which haws to check to see if the wands were working properly.
Fleur's was first, he tested it out shooting sparks.
"Rosewood, 9 and half inches, inflexible. And dear me." Said Ollivander.
"Hair from a Veela, it belonged to my grandmother." Said Fleur.
Haru looked at Fleur and made a mental note to talk to her later.
Haru watched as he shot flowers out of the wand and handed it back to her. Haru watched he tested both Cedric and Viktor's wand.
Of course he was last since he was an unofficial champion.
"Ah yes, Phoenix Feather and Holly." Said Ollivander,
He examined the wand for a bit longer then shot wine out of it.
"All of them are in working order." Said Ollivander.
"Well now that is finished I belie you should head back to class… then again perhaps it's better for dinner." Said Pro. Dumbledore.
"Wait, there should be pictures." Said Ludo, "Isn't' that right Rita?"
He turned to see she wasn't there.
"She hasn't come out yet." Said the cameraman.
"Perhaps it was better that way." Said Pro. Dumbledore.
Rita was still crying over her quill, she hadn't wrote anything even after several tests.
And so a couple pictures were taken, it took a while thanks to Madame Maxime was so tall it was difficult to get into shot so much so that she had to sit down. Fleur was given the front of the group and they took a few pictures.
They all headed to the great hall.
"Fleur!" Haru called out to her.
"What do you want?" asked Fleur.
"I thinking you should introduce yourself to my mom." Said Haru.
"Why?" asked Fleur narrowing her eyes.
"She has powers similar to a Veela but she can also use to it turn people into stone." Said Haru.
Fleur blinked, she remember seeing the beautiful black haired woman many times during her visit, and sensed something from her… it wasn't like a Veela but the more she thought about it was similar.
"Why?" asked Fleur.
"Because she sometimes complains about the way people treat… I thought you might be the same way and you can talk about it." Said Haru.
Fleur stared at the boy in front of her, she decided to turn on her allure and tell him to leave.
"You should leave." Said Fleur.
"Why?" asked Haru, "I was just hoping you could be friends."
Fleur eyes winded, "You're immune…" she whispered.
"Immune to what… oh were doing that thing that makes people attracted to you?" asked Haru.
Fleur blinked, she wasn't expecting that.
"I'm immune…" said Haru with a shrug, "I think it's because of my mom."
Fleur once again started blinking.
He was a baffling boy, but he also seemed to be sweet.
"Oh man… I'm hungry…" said Haru, "I'll see you later Fleur!"
Haru disappeared into a portal leaving Fleur standing they're blinking.
That night, Rita looked through her notes, and looked at the pictures… she hadn't got any solo pictures of him.
She just sat there trying it spin a story.
Every time she would try to write something, she remembered what he had said he ate monsters or how he didn't' think you know who was a threat.
Then she figured it out.
"What kind of life does the Boy Who Lived Lead?"
While she couldn't use any of the quotes from the notes (none of them matched her description of him anyways). She did describe what Haru told her including the men who could turn into lava or black holes.
Of course this article was printed and there was barley any mention of the other Champions (and Cedric wasn't mentioned at all).
In school everyone read it… many of them were surprised, those that had briefly been to the other world knew it was true… and then there were those who thought "Why am I not surprised…"
Sirius read the article.
"So this article." Said Pro. Dumbledore reading it nearby.
"I think this is the first she ever wrote that is actuate." He said.
Pro. Dumbledore blinked then shrugged, Sires was the one who joined the pirate crew after all.
However no one was sure whether nor people would demand Haru be moved elsewhere.
After all, some witches and wizards think that might not be the best place to raise Haru after all…
