Iruka was pretty sure he wouldn't make a very good father.
He was a teacher, so he could deal with children fine. Sure, he was a little harsh and was at times a bit too quick to lose his temper. But, he liked helping his students grow, learn and get better.
Fathers, he was sure, didn't enjoy teaching their children how to kill. Iruka did. It was his job, and his life.
Fathers, he was also certain, cared most about their children becoming good people. Iruka cared; he just cared more about teaching his students how to survive than proper dinner etiquette.
Iruka was also scared of children. Not his students, but babies. Small delicate things that could break so easily if you didn't watch them closely enough.
Iruka knew that he wasn't strong enough to lose another family. Losing his first nearly killed him.
Iruka knew he didn't make a very good father. Luckily, Naruto didn't make a very good son, either.
They were both better at being brothers, anyway.

-Ending Notes: Tada. I seem to have this problem of having too much to say, and no where to fit it in. Urgh.
