Maggie's guilt had been in overdrive for the past few days. Ever since the explosion that killed Emmett Grant, her mind had been spinning with questions of different possible outcomes.
Ultimately, she knew there was no way that he could have been saved from that building in time, but still it was hard not to consider. Maggie couldn't imagine what his mother was going through. She was miserable after losing Jason, but the thoughts of losing a child…
The only thing that had kept her sane over the past few days was what her partner said after the explosion.. 'A lot of people made it out of that building because of you… that matters.'
She had brushed it off at first, but now she really appreciated his words, and the sincerity in his eyes when he said them. They hadn't been partners for long, but she was starting to realize that she could truly trust OA… not just professionally either.
That was a big step, as trust never came easy for Maggie… but things just felt different with OA.
She surprised even herself when she asked if he'd be willing to drive her to Emmett's funeral. She wasn't ever one to ask for help, but OA didn't hesitate to say yes.
Actually, he'd be coming to pick her up any minute now, so with that thought in mind, Maggie rushed to finish getting ready.
It wasn't long before she saw the familiar SUV pulling up outside. She got ready to head out there, but OA was already meeting her at the door. "Thank you for this, OA."
"Anything you need, Mags."
She smiled at the nickname, and he stood by the door as she put on her coat.
"Ready?"
Taking in a deep breath, the brunette nodded. "As I'll ever be."
He gave her a small, reassuring smile as the pair made their way to the vehicle.
Maggie appreciated the gesture. Today was weighing heavily on her heart, and she was sure this wouldn't be the last time a case affected her personally… but maybe, just maybe, this new friendship could help guide her through times like these.
