Chapter 1

Meeting Goku was quite the experience for Anya.

Goku had wild spiky black hair, black eyes, stood at maybe three feet tall and the greatest part was he had a monkeys tail. That tail had a mind of it's own at times and from the moment they had met it had been wrapping itself around her waist at every oppertunity and dragging her closer to Goku.

Grandpa Gohan and Goku were quite perplexed by it, but Anya, who had been born into many demon societies in her past lives, had an idea of why it kept happening without Goku's conscious consent. Not that she could really tell them that she had been basing all her interactions with Goku off demons that she didn't even know if they existed in this world.

Young demons with tails didn't necessarily have complete control over their tails until about ten years old, however, the tails of young demons still reacted to every thought they had.

So after the fifteenth time Goku's tail pulled her close to him, she asked him, "Did you want me closer, Goku?"

He cocked his head in confusion and chirped out a cheerful, "Yeah, how'd you know?"

Anya giggled as she pointed at his tail around her waist.

She heard a heavy sigh and and skin slapping skin behind her and when she turned her head curiously, she found Grandpa Gohan with his head in his hands.

"Grandpa! Why'd you hit yourself?!"

"Cause your grandpa's getting old and missing the obvious, Goku." Grandpa Gohan admitted to his hands.

Anya giggled and let herself be tugged along by Goku and his tail on another forest adventure.

Goku was a breathe of fresh air for Anya, who hadn't realized that even though she deliberately allowed herself to be reborn into new world after new world in order to enjoy life all over again she had been having problems actually enjoying her new lives because she was always conscious of the fact that she wasn't normal, that she was too powerful to actually enjoy life, or because in every life she's ever had other people had realized she was strange and had unconsciously made a decision to isolate her or keep her at a distance to protect themselves, and it hadn't helped that she'd been weighted down by her past lives even if they had been vague memories.

Even Grandpa Gohan made sure that she had her gloves on before holding her hand, but Goku never checked in the first place and was always either tugging her along by the tail or grabbing her hand to pull her along on another adventure.

Somehow that simple fact made it easier to relax and enjoy every day she spent with him.

Immersing herself in his adventures and learning to be a kid all over again was somehow everything that she'd needed and she'd been able to let go and allow herself to get over her recent past life far faster than usual in order to actually have a childhood.

Something that confused her though was that Grandpa Gohan and Goku both thought Goku was her age, but her soul sensing ability told her that he was at least three years older than her current bodies age. She couldn't really say anything though because how could she prove something like that. There wasn't any real harm in allowing them to keep believing something like that anyway.

There had only really been a couple issues with living with her new family.

One was Goku's ignorance on the differences between girls and boys and what was an acceptable way of telling the difference between the two.

Randomly patting her no-no space, waiting for her nonexistant boy parts to grow was not acceptable.

Pulling the back of her pants down and searching for her nonexistant tail was not acceptable.

She'd threatened Grandpa Gohan with food poisoning if he didn't correct the issue immediately.

She'd had to use the same threat again when she realized that he was only really focused on teaching him physical martial arts and survival skills but not how to read, write, do math or science, or any of the basic world technologies like he was with her.

His complaints about how hard it was to keep Goku seated, still, and focused for lessons were met frowns and narrowed eyes of disapproval..

His secondary excuse that Goku didn't necessarily need to be taught just yet because they lived in a forest and he needed to learn survival skills and martial arts more than he needed a society based education, was not well recieved at all.

It was her reminder of his old age that finally urged him to start taking Goku's education seriously.

With that taken care of Anya had focused heavily on trying to figure out a way to stop Grandpa Gohan's death, which she could see would happen sometime during Age 745, when she was eight years old and had been living with them for five years. 'Death by crushing' was the only thing she really had to go off of.

Her only options were to watch him like a hawk that year and try not to draw attention to that fact or focus her death power into healing instead of killing.

She chose both and Grandpa Gohan even started helping her train to heal after he caught her trying to heal little woodland creatures.

He passed off her interest in healing as a response to her 'death touch', so it was a win-win.

And then the day finally came when Grandpa Gohan was supposed to die.

It was a full moon and Anya had felt the power building in the air, Goku was more excitable that night and he'd glanced up at the full moon and all of the sudden his power tripled and he began growing into a huge raging cross between a gorilla and a wolf?

Their little hut was destroyed immediately and rocks and boulder began falling down the mountain side, trees were being uprooted and thrown around and when Grandpa Gohan went to try to calm Goku, Anya grabbed him and stopped him, "No. He's too powerful right now and he's raging. He's not going to recognize either of us right now and it's too dangerous."

Grandpa Gohan tried to pull out of her grip and go to him again, "I can't just leave him to rage and destroy the mountains and forest."

"Yes, you can. The mountains and forest will recover. You will not." Anya yelled desperately, barely managing to keep her hold on him. Her body didn't have the same type of strength as Goku and Grandpa Gohan, she had been trained for speed and evasion and while yes she could throw a punch, she couldn't topple trees or break rocks like they could, at least not without using her abilities.

Luckily, her words seemed to get through to him and he turned to look at her in a new light.

"What do you mean I won't recover, Anya? You can't know that."

"Yes I can. I've always been able to sense when something or someone was going to die." Anya pleaded with him, hoping he would listen, she didn't want to be the one to tell Goku that his grandpa died due to his own stupidity.

He shook his head as if to get rid of the thought, before saying sternly, "We'll talk about that later, Anya. We can't let Goku be discovered-"

"Then we'll just play a game of tag with him until the moon goes down. Leave it to me though, you're not as young as you used to be." She shouted playfully behind her, giggling as she heard him shouting indignantly behind her as she ran off to play keep away with giant-Goku.

She wasn't really loking foreward to the talk he had mentioned having with her but she supposed that at least these two needed to know about her abilities.

By the time the moon went down and the sun rose, Anya was exhausted and Goku had changed back, completely naked and deeply asleep.

She took off her loose and flowing skirt that she'd tucked into her waistband and was really just extra material and covered him with it before laying next to him and falling to sleep herself.

She woke as the sun was falling with Goku's arms wrapped around her as tightly as his tail was.

"What's wrong Goku?" She mumbled, still sleepy.

"I could've hurt you, Anya. Why did you do that?" Goku said, quietly into her messily braided hair.

Grandpa Gohan must have told him about the night before.

She hummed, eye's still closed, her hand brushing the fur of his tail around her waist and smiled, "Because you've never flinched at the touch of my hands, even though I can kill you if I lose the slightest bit of control over my 'death touch'."

He was quiet for a while, his arms and tail tightening around her at random intervals, and when he finally spoke again, his voice was thick with held back tears, "I'm glad I didn't hurt you."

They fell into a comfortable silence as she turned over to face him and curl into him further. He always radiated such warmth and she adored curling into his embrace whenever she got a chance. She supposed it was a side-effect of constantly putting off a cold aura to people and they didn't like touching her and avoided it at any chance they could.

Goku didn't do that and was always happy to hug her or give her a piggyback ride or let her curl up in his lap and he'd play with her hair whether it was loose or not.

"Grandpa wants to cut my tail off."

Anya jolts out of her doze and looks up at Goku's face, "What?"

"I think I'm going to let him." Goku says quietly, not looking directly at her.

"That's not the answer, Goku." Anya says gently, careful to keep her anger out of her voice.

Goku could be excused for making a decision like that out of worry that he was a danger to her, but Grandpa Gohan? That was inexcuseable. You can't just defang someone just because they're dangerous. They didn't do that with her, why would they do that with him.

He looked at her sadly, "How else do I keep you safe then? I don't think I could live with myself if I hurt you, Anya?"

She smiled gently and lifted her bare hand to cup his cheek pointedly, "You train. You learn to control it. Just like I learned to control my ability to protect you."

He looked at her skeptically, worry in his eyes, so she continued, "So far from what I could see, it only happened on the full moon and when you looked at the full moon. So we can either blindfold you on full moons and pull the blindfold down for short periods of time in order to help you figure out how to control it and then longer and longer periods of time the more you're able to control it."

"And if you can't stop the transformation in the time it takes to reblindfold me?" He questioned, far more seriously than he'd ever been before.

"Then I play keep away with giant-Goku until the sun rises again." Anya chirps with a grin.

When he only frowned at her, she shook her head with a smile, "Goku, you never even managed to touch me last night. You were too big and heavy to move fast enough. It was actually kinda fun, if exhausting."

He relaxed a bit, "You think you can manage to do that all night?"

She laughed, "I managed last night out of necessity, but I'm going to increase my training in speed, evasion and add endurance training as well just in case. Would that help make you feel better Goku?"

He sighed and pulled her closer, "Yeah. It does. Thanks, Anya. I know I should value other peoples lives more than my tail but..."

She nodded in understanding, "Your tail is a part of you. It is as important to you as my hands are to me. The removal of a limb should never be the first option. My hands are dangerous too, Goku, but nobody has ever suggested cutting them off."

The sound of someone shifting nearby drew their attention, "Anya is right, Goku. I'm sorry for putting the thought in your head that it was the only option you had. I only meant it as a last resort and only ever with your permission."

Anya felt Goku nod his head and sigh in relief, but she didn't bother looking towards Grandpa Gohan. She was too angry at him at the moment.

"I'm sorry, Anya."

She nodded into Goku but didn't look at him. She wasn't in the mood to forgive him just yet. It was probably immature of her, especially considering she was a goddess with millennia after millennia of years under her belt, but the longer she was around Goku the more she allowed herself to just live in the moment and reacting to her current emotional state like any other child was somehow more relieving and refreshing than forcing herself to be the bigger person like she had for ages now. If that made her a brat then so be it. There wasn't anything wrong with being a brat for a bit when you were upset.

When she was ten, she was woken suddenly in the very early morning, so early that the sun hadn't even risen, by a panicking Goku, who always slept near her. She'd been very grumpy to be awoken so early in the morning, but it became even worse that day because she had apparently gotten her first period sometime during the night and now Goku was panicked and crying and begging her not to die.

Before she could even say anything he pulled her into his arms bridal style and rushed for Grandpa Gohan, who regularly woke early for his private meditation sessions, and she supposed it was a good thing she hadn't managed to get a word out because she isn't technically supposed to know about periods or anything related to it because it hadn't come up in their lessons yet. Anya highly suspected that Grandpa Gohan was doing his very best to put that specific talk off.

Grandpa Gohan didn't really like having important or awkward discussions. Their last one was two years previously when she'd had to tell him and Goku about her abilities; death touch, power stockpile – which allowed her to obtain power from someone's death (of course she never mentioned that it was everybody's death in her current world that she obtained power from, nor did she mention that she could revive people or drain people of their soul), she could use that power for anything (transfiguration, charms, defense, runes, and a bit of divination) but she mainly used it to boost her normal abilities and for healing (Grandpa Gohan seemed far more at ease when she used the stockpile power for healing), soul sensing – which included sensing people nearby, sensing lies and emotions, and a bit of reading minds.

The following discussion that day was just as awkward and uncomfortable, but in an entirely different way. More embarrassing than the fear of rejection the previous discussion had brought out in her.

Embarrassing though it was, Anya could admit that she was grateful for it. Goku spent the rest of the week carrying or piggybacking Anya around on their adventures, getting her extra fruits during snack time, helping her with her own chores; gathering herbs, doing the laundry, and cleaning; and during the nights he made sure to let her sleep close to the fire and as she curled into him he rubbed his hands up and down her back until she fell asleep.

Never in all her past lives had she ever met a boy who reacted with such care towards her health, comfort and happiness when they found out about her womanly time. It made her adore Goku all the more.

So when Grandpa Gohan mentioned over breakfast one morning that they should consider sleeping separately since they were entering puberty and it wasn't really acceptable for a young lady and a young man to be sleeping in the same bed when they were not married.

Of course then he had to explain what marriage was and try to settle both preteens down because neither liked the idea of sleeping separately. Anya didn't give one fuck that she was supposed to be the mature one considering her actual age, growing up with Goku made it easy to live in the moment and these days she barely remembered that she was more than a millennia year old goddess in human form. She'd always had that issue in her previous lives but now she was finding it relieving to act how she wanted to and just enjoy herself.

Grandpa Gohan had to go into great detail on dating, courting, claiming, getting engaged and married or mated and all about how the current society viewed certain things, and what you should and shouldn't do.

By the end of it, Goku was frowning at the floor thoughtfully and did for quite some time before he perked up and finally declared that he would just marry Anya and then they could sleep together whenever they wanted and nobody could stop them.

Grandpa Gohan had sighed and explained that they were too young to get married, that they would need to wait until they were at least eighteen and on top of that Goku needed Anya's agreement to marry him and that he couldn't just decide to marry someone, even Anya, on a whim or out of nowhere.

Anya had blushed and tried to ignore the fact that Goku had declared his intentions to marry her and she suddenly realized that she wouldn't want to say no if he was actually serious.

She'd tuned back in to find Goku frowning at his grandfather and indignantly telling him that it wasn't out of nowhere, that Anya was his best friend and he wanted her to always be safe and happy and stay by his side forever.

That he wanted to keep braiding her hair every morning for her before training and chores.

That he wanted them to go on adventures together every day for the rest of their lives.

That he loved when she curled up next to him in meadows or next to ponds for naps in the shade on hot days or cloud watching or star gazing.

That he enjoyed making her laugh or giggle when he did stupid things like swing from limbs or vines like a monkey and then suddenly drop down, snatch her from the ground so he could help her swing from vines like him.

That he wanted to help her cook food he'd helped her hunt or gather, just so she could swat at him with a laugh when he tried eating the prep food.

That he loved chasing after her through the forest or around the laundry line when she was hanging up the laundry.

Grandpa Gohan smiled and sighed exasperatedly, catching sight of Anya's burning red face but soft smile and adoring eyes focused on Goku, "At the very least get her permission first before doing anything and wait until you're both fourteen before you start dating. No getting married until you're eighteen. I won't enforce separate sleeping if you both want to continue doing so but keep in mind I will be checking in on you two to make sure nothing untoward is happening."

Anya spent most of that day bright red but a soft smile on her face and a far off look in her eyes.

Goku and Anya continued sleeping close to each other, the only real difference was that Goku asked her permission before approaching her during bedtime every night.

During the day, after training, lessons, and chores, he'd ask her to join him on adventures that day instead of just grabbing her hand and tugging her along.

When they went swimming, he would no longer strip completely down, simply taking his shirt off and giving it to her to swim in and slipping off his shoes before diving right in. Bathroom breaks were taken behind trees or in bushes, instead of just a few feet away from her like usual.

Anya couldn't exactly say she didn't enjoy his new sense of consideration for her. She absolutely did. Though she will admit that she hadn't really minded skinny dipping so much as others would and nudity hadn't really bothered her much anyway, but the fact that he stopped in consideration for her had her extremely grateful and flattered.

Goku did in fact ask permission to marry her when they were older one afternoon when they were both lying next to the pond in their swimming clothes waiting for them to dry off in the sun.

She told him that if he still wanted to marry her by the time she was eighteen then she would marry him. She told him that if he still wanted her by the time he was fourteen then she didn't mind him claiming that she was his, so long as she could claim him as hers.

She supposed most people would be weirded out by how young they were and already thinking about marriage and such but Anya had lived too many lives as different species to mind making decisions like this so young.

Angels were given life partners from the age of five.

Elves married for politics so age didn't necessarily matter.

Demons were a mixed bunch.

Canine's were monogamous and as such usually chose their mates young and dedicated their lives to them.

Bird demons, however, only took seasonal mates.

Goku was a very instinct driven person, so while she didn't really know what species he was, he was acting close to the canine demon's she'd known.
