"Great 'leap', Frasier," Roz smirked as soon as the cameras broadcasting the PBS fundraiser were turned off. "Something something buttons and bows...," she mimicked Frasier's singing with stinging accuracy.
"Very funny. Go ahead and laugh," Frasier snapped.
Roz laughed.
"I just did!"
"That was a figure of speech!" Frasier shot back.
"And that was called sarcasm. You might want to review what that means."
Frasier ignored he cutting remark.
"So, I changed my mind about what I was going to sing. What's so bad about that?" Frasier demanded.
Roz raised an eyebrow as she laughed humorlessly.
"Because you criticized me and your entire family for not 'taking a leap'?"
Frasier was silent for a long moment as he struggled to find a retort, but came up short, choosing instead to give Roz a venomous glare that she shrugged off with another catty smirk. Feeling that he'd had enough humiliation for one night, he ignored her baiting look and stalked off, eager to get home. A relaxing bath, music, and his latest copy of Opera Digest sounded like the 'cure' he needed for that difficult day. A whole night to unwind and take his mind off his troubles...
Later...
"Fras! You're home!" Martin said happily as soon as Frasier walked into the apartment.
"It's so good to see you again, Dr. Crane!" Daphne said warmly.
Frasier smiled gratefully, touched and a little surprised.
"Thank you! It's so touching that you're both so welcoming and happy to see me."
"We've been waiting all night to show you this!" Martin said, motioning toward the television. "Play it again, Daphne, so Frasier can see!"
A moment later, Frasier saw himself on television. At the disastrous fundraiser. Butchering 'Buttons and Bows' before all of Seattle. So this was why they were eager to see him! They just had to hold this over him, didn't they?
"All right, you two have had your fun," Frasier complained. "Criticize me just because I had some last minute nerves."
"Well, maybe now you know what it's like now to have someone pontificating about how it's important to 'take a leap'," Martin said.
Once again, Frasier had no retort to this. They all had a point, which put him in a worse mood than ever. Even Eddie seemed to be looking at him accusingly! Frasier went to his bedroom in high indignation, and did not come out until the next morning.
