Thanks again guys for the likes and reviews. I always look forward to reading them. Just another reminder that I still don't have a medical background so my apologies for any inaccuracies! Also, don't kill me for this chapter. There is still A LOT planned for this stories and it isn't going to be all sunshine and roses all the time!

Kim arrived back at the hospital, finding Kevin in the exact same spot she had left him. "Anything happen while I was gone?"

Kevin shook his head no. "Been pretty uneventful over here. How's my girl Mack holding up?"

Kim shrugged. "she's struggling with, but I think she understands. It's obviously hard on everybody, but I couldn't imagine being a child who's had to endure as much trauma as she has, trying to figure out why bad things keep happening to her and the ones she loves."

"That's gotta be hard. But she's tough and you're doing the absolute best you can for her." Kevin replied.

"I know. I just sometimes wonder if it's enough." Kim had started to doubt herself.

"Kim. You ARE more than enough for her. You and Adam have given her more than she could have ever asked for. All these things that have happened, they're all out of your control."

She knew Kevin was right, but it never stopped her from questioning herself. Wanting to end the conversation, she just nodded her head and thanked Kevin for always being there.

A little while later, Kim was reading a book while Kevin was nonchalantly scrolling through his phone. Kim thought she had seen movement coming from the bed and decided to put the book down and focus on Adam. As she made her way over to the bed, she watched as Adam scrunched the blankets under his hands into a fist.

Kim easily un-balled his fist and replaced the blanket with her own hand. Adam returned the favor by squeezing her hand. It wasn't tight to Kim, but to Adam, he was putting all his strength into that squeeze hoping it would ease the pain.

"Adam?" Kim asked. "Come on Adam, open your eyes."

Kevin was about to chime in as well When Adam slowly opened his eyes. His face scrunched and you could read the pain all over his face. "Kim." Adam whispered, but under the mask no one could hear it.

Kim smiled as Adam made eye contact with her. It was a different eye contact than the first time. That one she was just in his line of sight. This time though, she could tell he seen her and recognized that she was there.

He slowly brought his hand up to touch her cheek. Kim helped speed up the process by grabbing his hand and moving it to her cheek. She made eye contact with Kevin, who had gone to get Will. "Hey there." She smiled through the tears once Kevin was gone. "How you feeling?" She knew it was a stupid question but she couldn't stop the words from coming out.

"Hurts." Adam mumbled through the mask just loud enough that Kim could hear.

"I know, Baby. Can you tell me what hurts the most?" She was trying to get as much info for Will incase Adam fell back asleep before Kevin returned with the doctor.

"Er'rywhere." Adam mumbled again as he scrunched his eyes shut when another wave of pain hit. "What hap-"

Kevin had returned to the room with Will. Will was pleased to see Adam awake and talking. "Adam. Good to see you awake again man."

Adam focused his attention to Will as the doctor walked closer. "How you feeling?"

"He said-" Kim started to answer since she had just asked and could tell Adam was struggling to talk.

Will quickly held a hand up stopping Kim from continuing. "I need him to answer for me." It was his way of gauging Adam's current mental capacity.

"Hurts." Adam repeated.

"Can you tell me where it hurts?" Will asked.

Adam rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed at answering questions he had already answered. He focused his eyes over to Kim, hoping she would jump in and answer for him, but she just stood there with her arms crossed, waiting for him to answer. "Everywhere."

"Are you breathing okay?" Will asked.

"Yes." Adam answered.

"Okay, I'm gonna remove the mask and replace it with a nasal cannula. If at any point you feel like you need more help, just let one of the nurses know and we will put the mask back on for you." Will explained as he began the process of removing the mask. Once that was done he had a few more questions he wanted to ask. "Do you know why you're in the hospital?"

Adam thought for a few seconds but couldn't recall anything that would land him in the hospital. "No."

Will nodded. He had hoped Adam would remember getting shot, but he wasn't completely surprised that he didn't. "Can you tell me the last thing you do remember?"

Once again, Adam had to think. "Met Al at Molly's last night for beers."

Kim had gasped at the mention of Al. He had been gone for years now. Kevin pulled her in for a hug while Trudy stood on the other side of Kim with a hand on her shoulder. None of them knowing what this meant for Adam.

Will just nodded, seemingly ignoring the answer. It had worried him slightly, but not as much as it had worried Kim, Kevin, and Trudy.

"Adam, you were shot three times, four days ago. You came in with extensive blood loss and critical injuries. As a result, you were placed in a medically-induced coma. Yesterday, we began the process of waking you up. You briefly woke up two times, but only for a few minutes. This is the first time you have really been awake and talking since the incident." Will explained.

Adam looked extremely confused. "No, that's not… not possible. Call Al. He'll tell you."

"Al's dead." Kim blurted out. She didn't mean to sound so blunt, but she was now extremely worried about Adam. "He's been dead for years Adam. What the hell is going on here Will?"

If Adam looked terrible before, he looked even worse now. There was no way Al could be gone for years and he not remember.

Will had a pretty good idea about what was going on right now, and new he had to explain to the three officers, but he knew Adam was now fighting to stay awake and he had one more important test he wanted to run. "I'll explain in a bit." He said calmly to Kim as he walked to the foot of the bed.

Kim was about to demand Will to tell them now, when she noticed Will pull the blankets out from over Adam's feet.

"Alright, Adam. I know you're getting tired of answering questions but I just need to ask you a few more." Will explained. He held up the blanket high enough that Adam couldn't see, just in case. "Can you do me a favor a wiggle the toes on your right foot?" Will waited a few seconds for Adam to wiggle his toes but seen nothing. Not wanting Adam to panic, he quickly moved on. "Okay, great. Now can you move your left toes?" Again, there was nothing.

Kim, Kevin, and Trudy stood in the side of the room horrified of what this could mean, trying their hardest to put on a brave face for Adam.

"Very good, Adam. Almost done." Will pulled out a pen and roughly ran it along the bottom of both of Adam's feet. As he feared, there was still nothing.

"So, what now?" Trudy asked. She hoped Adam didn't catch the worry in her tone. Luckily, he was now tired enough not to catch that something wasn't right.

"I can't say for sure yet. I want to schedule him for a few more tests before I give definitive answers. Could all be nothing." He tried his best to stay positive for his friends, but he knew they could sense the hint of worry in his voice. "Why don't you guys head home for a bit. I'm gonna take him upstairs to run some tests which will take a couple hours. Come back around 3:00 and I'll update you guys as much as I can."

Kim sat down in a chair. There was no way she was leaving now. Not until she had some sort of answers as to what was going on with Adam.
