The first time Alex heard Paige say the words "I love you," she'd pretended to be sleep while Paige held her close, unsure of what she was supposed to say in return.
Paige's love flowed free and true while Alex preferred to reserve her love until she was sure that it was deserved. Fairytale love stories weren't exactly her thing, she reminded herself.
Her heart pulsed hard in her chest at the thought of someone actually giving a damn about her—actually loving her—for more than just her body. However, she couldn't speak the words Paige needed to hear.
