This story is not in the same Twilight universe as my other story, 'Blood Moon'. Just thought I'd mention it real quick. XD

So, the way this fanfic is going to work is not going to be quite like my other fanfics. What I'm thinking is that this will be a collection of one-shots, with a very long first chapter to kind of set up the situation. Please send in your suggestions for chapters, I'm going to need content ideas for this! But of course, please make the ideas relevant to the content. :)

Chapter One:

It was a somewhat cloudy day as I walked back inside the little stone cottage, our safe haven from the troubles of the outside world, tucked away into the depths of a deep forest. I bounced into our house, greeted immediately by Edward and Renesmee as I returned from my time spent hanging out with my human friends. Well, mostly human.

It had been nearly long enough since my transformation to immortal that I knew we would have to leave behind Forks soon for a new life; Bella Cullen was about to disappear into the great beyond as the date came to fake my death to move onto a new life and a new identity. Edward was worried that I would be disgruntled by holding a fake funeral for myself, but having done this several times himself he knew that it had to be done to start a new life.

I would miss my old life, my family, and my friends. That is, those of my friends who were going to be separated from my life.

As for the rest of them…

My childhood best friend, Jacob Black, was a werewolf. Well, a shapeshifter to be exact, but really there was almost no difference. He was imprinted on my daughter Renesmee, and this sentence alone would require almost an entire book just trying to explain it all away. As long as Jacob retained his wolf form, he would be able to come along wherever we may go for the foreseeable future. I knew I couldn't be cold or heartless enough to either of them to separate them forcefully, since I knew that when my daughter grew up she would be the yin to Jacob's yang.

Another friend that I had been surprised to learn about was my best friend Angela. Angela had a secret all of her own. While she had known nothing of the existence of vampires and werewolves, she had had suspicions or a while now of the secret of the Cullens and the Quileute pack. When I confronted her to keep our existence a secret, she had managed to surprise me with her own secrets; she was a Witch.

At first, I was truly shocked. I had asked her to prove it, and she asked me to do likewise.

It took a moment for the both of us to reach a secluded space, and instantly we began astounding each other with demonstrations of our abilities. Angela was quite the skilled sorceress, in fact, managing to conjure up many things.

Angela was happy that she could continue to know me, even after I "passed away" at some point, and I was equally excited. She would keep our secret safe.

Jessica and Mike were totally human, and I was not sad to leave them behind. After all of her crap that I had to put up with, I was quite done with having known Jessica Stanley. When I had first known her, she had seemed quite friendly and encouraging, but nowadays she seemed to be the type of person where if I had told her I was going to die, she may have just huffed and began gossiping about someone else as if nothing had happened.

It was after a meeting with Angela, her boyfriend Ben, and Eric that I returned home to Edward, glad to be back with him again.

Edward; my glorious, immortal husband who never ceased to amaze and dazzle me. The bond we had towards each other only grew every day that we spent in our small piece of forever. With Renesmee in the picture, everything was perfect.

"Ready?" Edward asked. I nodded.

Edward, Renesmee, and I were all heading out today for a 'family outing', as Edward called it. Having nothing better by which to call it, I went along with it, as old-fashioned as it seemed. It was endearing, as always, that Edward was such a gentleman and so old-fashioned it made my heart melt every time he did even the smallest things like opening doors for me or not sitting down until I did so first.

Though we could've gotten to our destination faster by simply running, it would have raised suspicions definitely. We took Edward's Aston Martin (the silver Volvo was still being worked upon by Rosalie,) and drove towards Seattle, undecided on where to go, honestly.

Renesmee was mature for her age, but still she was a child, even if mature at heart. She was excited as she asked us if we could go to the mall to see a new store that her Aunt Alice had gushed to her about.

"Sure, we can go," Edward said, glancing back at Renesmee as if he didn't have a care in the world where he was driving. In reality, the tires of the car never deviated from the path they took by so much as an inch. "But your Aunt Alice will be upset that we went without her."

Renesmee laughed, and touched my forehead. I heard the message in her thoughts as she showed me Alice, laughing and smiling her usual expression of pixie-ish delight.

'She'll be fine,' Renesmee said, giggling her bell-like peals again.

Like I said, it would have taken virtually no time to get there running, while it was actually slower to take a car at this point. With a whoosh of air, I felt Alice suddenly bouncing in the seat of the car, across from Renesmee who wasn't surprised at all.

"Aww, Aunt Alice we almost got to the two-mile mark this time!" Renesmee giggled. Alice looked at her with a mischievous expression.

"You almost left me!" she complained, and leaned over, grinning manically. "I saw you planning to ask Bella if you could go to the store I told you about, you little—C'mere, you!"

Renesmee giggled harder as Alice tickled her, making sure as always not to use her full strength. Renesmee was tough like us, but none of us wanted to be the first to test her endurance out.

It wasn't long before Edward pulled into a parking lot, and Alice toted Renesmee on her shoulders as they began to walk into the mall together, leaving us behind. Renesmee shielded Alice's skin from the sun with a large sunhat as she rode along on Alice's shoulders, making sure that the sun did not give away our secret.

Edward and I donned similar anti-sun gear and made our way through the maze of cars. Edward grinned as he saw Alice and Renesmee walk straight into the mall, not waiting a moment for us.

"Think we'll ever see them again?" I asked, joking around.

"She's gotta come back out for Jasper at some point," Edward laughed. "Although we might not be seeing them until tomorrow."

I laughed with him and we made our way into the mall. Alice and Renesmee were, of course, nowhere in sight already, so Edward and I browsed the mall on our own.

We walked around the mall for a little while, browsing some of the stores though we had no real intentions to buy anything. After a few minutes, we walked to the store Renesmee had told us about, thankfully finding Alice and Renesmee quickly due to Edward's telepathic abilities.

Edward picked Renesmee up as we began to head to the cashier waiting for us behind the register; she looked like a kind woman, approximately barely reaching into her older years as wrinkles and grey hairs began to make their appearance on her forehead. She smiled as Edward walked up, placing the trinket that Renesmee had wanted to buy on the counter to purchase it.

The cashier was perfectly polite as she rang up the order, took the money thankfully, and cashed it in. As she handed the bag to Edward, she made a remark that was perfectly normal to make as an assumption, but still quite jarring to those of us who knew the secret of our immortal existence.

"Your little sister is quite lovely, young man," the woman said, smiling.

I saw only the briefest hesitation on Edward's face before he thanked her and walked away. I wasn't telepathic, but I knew that the comment had struck him in an unexpected place.

Alice's eyes glazed over a little, and I took her by the hand as I led her out after Edward. When she snapped out of the trance, she laughed her trilling laugh. Ahead of us by only about thirty paces, Edward stopped and waited for us, before speaking quietly.

"You would've thought it was a little jarring too to have your own daughter called your little sister," he said, quiet enough that none of the nearby humans had a hope of hearing.

Alice sent him another thought with a big goofy smile on her face, and he sighed.

"I know, I know," he said, not saying more to explain their silent conversation.

The whole trip back home, Edward was more contemplative than before, and I knew it had to do with the woman's comment. I hadn't expected such a simple misunderstanding to affect him as much as it evidently did, but as soon as I was sure he was comfortable talking to me about it, I was going to ask him.

This time came sooner than perhaps expected, because as soon as Edward parked his Aston Martin, he picked up Renesmee on his shoulders and darted off in the direction of our house.

I followed quickly, stepping through the doorway not a minute later, and quietly closing it as Renesmee went into her room to play with some of her toys. Edward sat in a chair, staring for a moment in the fire as he pondered, before noticing me. He smiled his usual dazzling smile, but I could tell through his eyes that his mind was still bothered by the woman's comment.

"Edward, what's going on?" I asked. "Why are you still so bothered by the cashier's comment? It was a simple misunderstanding. I mean, there's no way to expect that you were over a hundred years old."

"I'm used to people mistaking me for a kid, Bella. Technically I still am," Edward sighed as he looked into the firepit. "But that was before I met you, and now you're my wife. Renesmee is my daughter, and she's mistaken as my little sister since I look too young to have my own family."

I waited for him to continue, and continue he did.

"I wouldn't trade either of you for anything life could possibly offer me in return, but I wish I had the freedom to openly say that Renesmee was my daughter, or that you were my wife, without criticism by the public."

Edward was raised in the 1900s, of course. Proper etiquette of the day was strange to him, to be (in all appearances) married and with child at only the age of seventeen. Even in the 1900s, this was considered an early marriage at best. A child should not have been in the picture, at how old Edward looked.

"Edward, who cares what other people think," I said, sitting on the armrest of his chair. "I love you just how you are, and so does Renesmee. You know that anyone whose opinion actually matters already knows how old you are, and are completely supportive of your choices. In fact, I would bet my bottom dollar they wished you were making more choices like these."

"I know that Bella, but I just wish… I just wish I looked a little older. Even if I looked nineteen I would be happy, because that would be at least acceptable. But in society's eyes I'm still just a minor. So I have to agree that my little sister is quite lovely, or that I have a healthy relationship with you as an older sister, or a girlfriend at best."

I could definitely see where he was coming from, though I knew I was biased in thinking that he was completely perfect any age he looked, and it didn't matter because I knew that he was my superior in age by well over at least a full lifetime.

Edward and I cuddled for a little bit as I tried to take his mind off of the comment, but I could sense just how much this was bothering him. Much more than I would have expected. He must have been thinking about this for a while now. How long had this been going on?

And immediately, I knew I would have to find a solution. Something to help Edward see he was perfect, or—

The thought was impossible, but it flitted into my mind unannounced. Clear as day; I could try to see if there was a way that a vampire could age again. I mean, Renesmee was half-vampire, and though she would eventually be immortal in the peak of her life, she would grow until that point. Technically, then, it was possible for a vampire to get older physically as well as mentally.

I could ask Carlisle if he knew anything about it, or I could ask… Angela. She was a Witch, she studied impossible problems like this all the time! She'd probably love the challenge and the prospect of getting to help me out!

I knew that Edward would brood over this for at least a week until he could put it out of his mind. But if he'd been thinking about this already, then I also knew banishing the thought from his vampire-mind would probably take longer than that, and any slips from humans in-between would only strengthen the thought's hold on him between then and now.

So I decided on a course of action.

"Edward, I'll be right back. I need to run a quick errand in Forks," I said, getting up. Edward nodded, returning to staring in the fireplace as Renesmee came out and began to play in the living room.

I shut the door, and immediately began rocketing through the forest on a course for Angela's house. It doesn't take me too long to get to Forks, and I slow down as I come to the edge of the forest. Twilight is beginning to set, so I confidently walk out, my skin only glistening subtly with the fading sunlight. I walk at a normal speed down the street until I come to Angela's house. I knock, knowing that she should be here.

The door opens, and it is Mr. Weber who answers the door.

"Oh! Bella! It's nice to see you here. Please, come on in!" he says with a smile, though I can sense that he automatically and perhaps even unconsciously backs away from me as I walk into his house. He is one of the kindest human souls I know of, but even he can automatically sense something threatening about me. "Angela is up in her room doing her homework, if that's who I assume you came to see."

"You're a prophet, Mr. Weber," I chuckle. "Thank you."

"It's no trouble at all, Bella. Would you like something to eat? We just finished dinner if you want some."

"Oh no, thank you. I've already eaten," I say politely, though in my mind I add, 'Though I admit it was about four years ago that I ate my last meal.'

I walk up the stairs and open Angela's door. My footsteps are almost silent on the carpet as I walk into her room, as though I were floating on air rather than walking on the soft pink fluff attached to the floor.

Angela is slightly bent over a desk in her room, doing homework like Mr. Weber had said. But it wasn't any normal schoolwork. I saw diagrams of potions and runes on her papers as she subtly shifted them around with her actual pages of homework from school today.

"Hey Ang," I said as I approached, and flopped on her bed.

Angela yelped with surprise, before becoming amused and throwing a spare pillow at me.

"You sneaky little bats keep doing that!" Angela laughed quietly, making sure her father couldn't hear her.

"I told you, we don't actually turn into bats," I laughed softly. "Hey, I need a favor, thought I'd come ask you about it."

Angela turned to face me more officially as she waited for me to continue.

"Edward's feeling a little down today, because a cashier mistook Renesmee as his little sister. He wishes he looked older so it wouldn't be so scandalous to the rest of the world that he married and had a four-year-old child at seventeen."

"Isn't he like a hundred or something though?" Angela asked. "Or higher?"

"Yeah, but he wishes he could be completely open about our marital status to the rest of the world. That he could own his patronage of Renesmee publicly," I said. "So I thought I'd come bring you a challenge; I'm not sure it's even possible, but the challenge is if you can figure out a spell or something to let a vampire age for a small amount of time."

"How much is a small amount of time?" Angela said, thoughtful.

"Let's say a year," I said, after pondering for a moment. "Two at most."

Angela was thoughtful again, before she seemed to get some idea.

"Deal, I'll do it. But I may need some reference material on vampires. Do you have anything like that for me?"

I grinned. "Better. I can get you probably two vampires to actually help you out. I'm willing to volunteer, and I'm sure Carlisle would love the prospect of the experiment."

Angela nodded, her face excited. "Thank goodness, that challenge is so much more interesting than these formulas. I might need those later, but for now I'm focusing on this. So, I'll swing by tomorrow and we can start work on it."

"One more thing, if it's possible," I added, "I would like this to be a surprise for Edward. So if we could try to do this secretly, I'd appreciate it."

"Sure thing. Then we'll do the experiment in my cave," Angela said. "You said you have a mental shield? That'll make sure he can't hear what we're doing."

"You have a cave?" I asked.

"A girl's gotta keep some secrets," Angela chuckled. "Now get some sleep and— oh wait."

I chucked the pillow back at her. "Nah I'm good for conceivably the rest of my life."

I heard footsteps begin to ascend the staircase below, and by the heavier tread I knew that it was Mr. Weber again. Quickly, I made a sign to Angela to quiet down.

"So, what are you and Ben doing next week? Maybe I can get Edward and we can go on a double-date," I said, in what I hoped was an excited tone that was acceptably loud enough.

Angela immediately took the cue. "I'm not sure, I can see if Ben is clear for… maybe Saturday?"

"Saturday then," I said, as Mr. Weber opened the door.

"Bella, I hate to do this to you, but Angela should probably get back to her homework for now," Mr. Weber said, almost guiltily.

"It's no problem at all, Mr. Weber, I was actually about to leave. Bye Ang!" I said, turning to Angela, who waved back at me. I hadn't seen her move, but her homework was suddenly that of her schoolwork, her witchery homework completely obscured from sight.

"Bye Bella! See you tomorrow!" Angela said, before turning back to her homework.

I grinned as I ran back to the cottage. Edward was still waiting for me, his mood considerably brighter as I walked in, though I was now perturbed by Edward's previous mood. I pushed it down for now, since I had something of a plan now.

The next morning, bright and early enough for it not to be too bright, I ran straight to Angela's house and waited in a nearby tree. Edward was going with Alice to Seattle again, who had seen my talk with Angela and was fully supportive as usual. She was the distraction as I gathered as many reference books on vampires as Carlisle had in his study.

Me and my stack of books waited patiently in the tree as the sun began to climb higher into the sky. Angela wasn't showing up yet, but I knew I had to be patient for her to come out of her house on her own.

I heard the door open from my perch, and dropped lightly to the ground, careful to stay in the shadows of the tree I was under to avoid the sunlight. It was Angela, with a suspicious plastic bag on her arm.

"Bella?" she called out softly. "Are you here?"

"Ang!" I said, louder since she didn't have super-hearing. Angela immediately whipped her heard around, and saw me. She smiled, and immediately began walking towards me. From a hundred yards I could see exactly what was in the bag, and I laugh. She draws closer, and I grin. "You actually have a witch hat?"

Angela laughs as she pulls out the pointy black hat, setting it on her head. "No, I just thought it would be funny. Now, let's go."

In an instant I was already under the shade of another tree, this one just inside the edge of the forest. Angela looks disgruntled by my show of speed, before jogging over to me again.

"Wow, you really are fast," Angela commented. "Well, this way to my secret lair."

I walked patiently with her as we made our way to, yes, a cave in the middle of the forest. Inside I saw, yes, a cauldron. It looked pretty battered and had a few spots with different colorations of metals.

"Yep, this is my genuine witch's cauldron," Angela laughed. "I made it myself with pieces of scrap from dumpsters and stuff. Ugh, don't want to do that again."

I laughed, making sure not to touch the cauldron. It looked faulty enough, I didn't want to break it.

Angela poured several buckets of water into the cauldron, and turned. Instantly a magic footlocker suddenly popped into view, and Angela opened it.

"My first spell; this locker. This was where I kept my oldest and most important magic items. Let's see what we have here."

She took out a dusty old book and blew on it.

"The old witch who told me I was a Witch gave this to me to start off my magical career," Angela said. "It's mainly a book about potionology, but there are a few spells in here too. Let's see what I can concoct for you."

She opened the book, flipping through pages as together we began to hypothesize on what we might need.

"Okay, in theory: to continue normal human growth we would need an altered regenerative potion. Usually regenerative potions are used simply for healing, but the concept is pretty much the same. Generate new tissue and fluid to replace lost tissues and fluids of the body. To combat vampire venom, we'd need a powerful stimulant to activate the potion, though."

"What do you mean, stimulant?" I asked.

"Well, in terms of mechanics, this would be equal to a spark plug. The thing that will start the whole chain reaction. It needs to be sturdy enough to resist vampire venom for about a month, let's say. In terms of magic, we may need to enchant something quickly," Angela said, poring over a page. "That, or find something of a rare quality to use. Probably what would work best would be something more fluid than a normal physical body. Some sort of—"

"Shapeshifting tissue?" I suggested. "I can get someone to give me a clip of hair or something."

"That may work, but we could also use things like Dragon scales, um, a tooth of the Children of the Moon…" Angela said.

"Do you want to try asking one of the pack? It sounds like they'd be the easiest to get ahold of," I suggested.

"No, in general terms, the easier it is to get a magical item the less it will work. It would not be as foolproof as something more lucrative might be."

"Alright, let's not do that then," I agreed. I wasn't going to put any sort of potion in Edward unless I was sure that he would be completely safe. "So where are we going to get something more lucrative?"

"Um, I have no idea," Angela said. "But if these notes are correct, I think it is possible to make an antidote of sorts for vampire venom. It says that in theory this would hinder the effects of the venom."

"In theory?" I asked, worried.

"83% chance of it working," Angela confirmed. "But only if we manage to find an old Dragon tooth. I think I can get the rest of these items right around here."

I nodded. "Right, we'll just hop on down to the museum and purchase a Dragon tooth. This'll be a snap."

"Nothing in magic is easy, Bella," Angela grinned, poring over more notes and symbols. "Maybe you know someone, ah, out of the ordinary who can tell you where one is?"

"All the people I know are out of the ordinary, but I can see about it," I said, trying to think. Dang, who would be most likely to have a Dragon's tooth just lying around!?

I almost giggled. As a human, there was no way I would've believed that all these creatures had existed. But as a vampire, I knew better. I'd seen crazy stuff just in the last two years alone. Sure, vampires existed! Want some werewolves? Cool let's just add those to the pile! Angela's a witch? Awesome, welcome to the club!

Running through the forest, I arrived at the main Cullen residence in only a few minutes at best. I went straight up to Carlisle's study. It was one of the days that he was working from his home, so I knew he would be there. As I opened the door, he was already looking up, having heard me enter the house.

"Bella, what can I do for you?" he asked politely.

"Do you know where I might be able to find a Dragon's tooth?" I asked, confused. Carlisle raised an eyebrow. "We're making a surprise gift for Edward, and Angela needs a Dragon tooth for the spell she's making."

"And might I ask what this spell should do?" Carlisle asked, apprehensively. I understood and respected that.

"Angela says that in theory she can make an antidote of sorts for vampire venom, but it's temporary. Basically she can temporarily turn vampires back into humans, if this works," I said. "Edward's been feeling down because he thinks he looks too young for me."

"Well, I suppose I can understand where he's coming from; from society's viewpoint, he is too young to be married and already have a child. But have you consulted him about this?"

"We won't be doing anything like shoving it down his throat as soon as it's ready," I quickly reassured him. "We'll just give him the option of whether or not he would want to take the potion."

Carlisle considered this for a moment. "And what exactly are you planning to do?"

"Well, we're just hoping for a way to make vampires able to age again, temporarily."

Carlisle's eyes lit up at the prospect, true to his scientifically curious character.

"Last question of mine, what are the chances for success?"

"Angela rates it at about 83% success," I said, "if I can find a Dragon's tooth."

Carlisle nodded. "Alright then, I'll help you and Angela out. As long as it's safe."

So began a long month's work of research on subjects that weren't supposed to exist in the public eye, finding ingredients so rare I almost wondered if Angela was making them up as we looked, and several trial and errors. Carlisle studied as much as he could without Edward finding out what we were doing. Angela pored over her magic books whenever she got the time, and I was the one mainly running errands for both of them, helping wherever I could.

After a long month of waiting, Angela came to us with the finished attempt at the potion.

"We need a test-subject, to make sure everything would work perfectly."

This was where Carlisle really stepped up to plate. After assurance that Angela could heal whatever he used, he suddenly leaned down and cleanly bit a thin layer of his own skin off of his arm, putting it under a microscope. A single drop of the potion was added to the vampire-skin.

We waited, fingers crossed hopefully that this would work. The tension in the air was thick as we waited, hoping for a scientific miracle.

Carlisle's grin made all of us nearly dizzy with excitement.

"The cells… they're moving. It's subtle, but there it is. The potion is a success," Carlisle stated, checking again for side-effects. "I should have a more stable assessment for you two by tomorrow. Until then, congratulations."

Angela and I squealed like schoolgirls. We had spent so much time and effort on this, and somehow it actually worked!

Vampires are immortal, simply because our bodies do not age. Whatsoever. The only cells in our entire body that move independently from free-thought are the cells that make up the iris of our eyes. Aside from that, every part of our bodies are frozen in time. And with this potion Angela and I had just learned how to thaw a vampire again.

I daresay Angela was WAY more excited than me. She told me that it was her first real breakthrough as a Witch, and with a breakthrough of this caliber, she could become one of the most renowned Witch's in the world.

I was happy for her, and excited to let Edward know. It took every single ounce of my effort to appear calm, but I knew that he knew something was up. I was almost positive that he cheated and used Jasper to determine how excited I was for tomorrow. All night he questioned me, and each time I answered with, 'I'll tell you later.' Seeing his frustrated gorgeous expression was enough to distract me for the time being, however.

I nearly ran straight through the walls of the main Cullen house as I awaited the verdict. Would it work? Edward clearly followed me there, his curiosity burning through him as I hadn't let him into my mind that night.

"Carlisle? How is our little project doing?"

"Just fine, Bella! Come up and see!" I heard his voice call from upstairs.

Carlisle was grinning hugely as Edward and I walked into the room. "It's completely stable. You two have made a miracle."

Edward's confusion, already horribly annoying to him before, now skyrocketed. "What?"

"Angela and Bella. They've been working on something recently," Carlisle said. "Something revolutionary."

"Edward," I said, turning to him. "Let's go get Angela, and then I'll tell you everything."

Edward nodded and within minutes we were already at Angela's cave. She was already waiting for us, with a beaker filled with the potion and a small shot-glass.

"Ready?" Angela said, pouring a small amount into the shot-glass. Edward's eyebrows shot up, and I laughed.

"I haven't told him yet, Ang. I thought you'd want to see it."

Angela beamed at me in appreciation, and quietly held the shot-glass with the bubbling liquid inside.

"Edward, remember the other day, when the cashier made you feel bad? For about a week?"

Edward nodded, his expression falling for a moment.

"You told me how you wished you were older-looking so society would stop looking critically at you if you told them you were married?" I continued.

Edward's expression told me he still had no clue about what I was about to drop on him.

"Angela and I got together, and we made you a potion," I said. "Now, this isn't some enhancement potion or anything, we really went all out. Carlisle helped us, too."

"Bella," Edward said, gripping my arms. I could tell his patience fighting his curiosity was finally up. "What does the potion do?"

I laughed again. "You'll never guess."

I was just so excited, I could barely contain it. And yet at the same time I wanted him to guess at least once what the strange bubbling purple liquid could possibly do.

Edward glanced between Angela's and my faces, and I quickly realized what he was trying to do. I laughed.

"Nice try, but I've already shielded her thoughts. You have to come up with this one on your own," I said, smiling hugely.

Edward gave me an expression of exasperation and amusement, and made his guess. "I'm guessing I'll get taller or something?"

"Nope," I said, bursting at the seams. It was time, I couldn't wait anymore. "You'll get older."

Edward missed a beat, then two. In vampire definitions, this was like being in shock for a full thirty seconds to a human.

"What?" he finally asked.

"Angela and I have worked on this potion for about a month, and she's finally found out how to temporarily reverse the vampire venom inside of you. For—how long does it last, Ang—?"

"Each dose lasts just one year," Angela said. "Just like you asked. In here are two doses."

"—for two years then, if you drink this potion you will age as a normal human. You'll grow older for two years, before you'll become a vampire again."

I could see the apprehension and desire warring in Edward's eyes. Apprehension; because the one thing that all vampires (with the lone exception of Alice) remember of their old lives, whether or not they remember any other scenes of their life as well, was their transformation. The long periods of burning agony that each vampire went through during their transformation from human to vampire was so ingrained in the minds of every immortal that even recalling the mention of the burn was painful to us.

Desire; because I saw that Edward wanted this badly. He wanted to look older, even if not very much older. He wanted to be able to say that I was his wife without nearly so much speculation from the public. It would've been an early marriage nowadays, but it was more acceptable than seventeen years of age.

"I wouldn't put you through something that would put you in danger, you know that, right?" I ask. "And you don't have to take the potion if you don't want to. I just wanted to be able to give you the option, if you wanted to take it."

Edward's eyes lock onto the beaker in Angela's hands with a hungry and wary look in his golden eyes. I can see the debate going on in his head, and I see desire beginning to win.

"There are no distasteful side-effects?" he asked.

"Well, there are always side-effects in potions, but I don't think these are considered distasteful," Angela said, "To all eyes and ears of the world you will be a perfectly normal human, growing for two years before reverting to your immortal state once more. This won't have lasting effects other than the fact that the vampire venom will be hindered, allowing you to age normally for a temporary time. I took twice as many precautions as I put effort into making the potion in the first place. It's perfectly safe; I'd stake my reputation on it."

"Your newfound reputation as a Witch?" Edward asked, raising an eyebrow.

"It's a perfectly good reputation so far, with an added extraordinary breakthrough in potionology. It's worth quite a bit to me," Angela boasted a little, holding up the larger beaker of the potion. "This little bottle of liquid could theoretically set my career as a Witch in stone, putting me up there with the greats."

Edward looked between our faces, and I could see the yearning in his eyes, overcoming his slowly dwindling apprehension.

"What are the chances of something going wrong?" he asked. By this point, I could see that his only reason for not downing the potion now was self-preservation that was wary of the perceived possible threat.

"4.27 percent," Angela stated confidently. "And Bella helped me make an antidote to this potion, just in case something went wrong. You're completely covered, nothing could happen that we can't undo."

Edward turned to me, his eyes glimmering with an expression that showed me the rising hope that I had given him a great gift again.

"Go on," I urged, smiling. "Go ahead and grow up a little bit."

Edward turned to Angela, and carefully took the small glass cup of potion.

He lifted it to his lips.

The liquid quickly gurgled down his throat.

But Edward stood completely still.

A few seconds passed.

"Edward?" I asked, worriedly. He hadn't even moved the cup from his mouth. "Edward?!" I asked, growing more and more panicked by the second.

Angela quickly began to reassure me. "He can hear you, Bella, he's just a little frozen right now. His cells have to remember how to move, and that will take maybe ten minutes. He's completely fine, it's just like the effect of paralysis, so if you want to make sure he's unharmed you mightwanttograb—!"

Edward's momentum had begun to shift, causing him to lean backwards as though he was carved from stone. I was behind him in an instant, holding him up. His body wasn't quite as hard as it had felt a moment ago; a little more squishy and softer. I looked over to Angela.

"His skin—" I began, and Angela's eyes widened.

"Wow, this is even better than I thought!" Angela said, grinning hugely. "He's not just hindering the venom, the potion is denying it!"

"What does that mean?!" I hissed, frightened by how Edward was growing warmer and softer moment by moment. His body was much more pliable now, and I was almost just holding him in my arms. He was also getting lighter. Was he sick? Was the potion turning him into some sort of vapor or something, or was it wasting him away?

"It means that he's actually… turning back into a human. Like, almost fully. Hang on, let me check,"

Angela brought out a wand, and muttered a quiet, short word. From the tip a glowing circle appeared, and Angela looked through it like a magnifying glass.

"Yeah, the venom is still there, and the effects will still be temporary, but for two years now, Edward is almost completely human. The venom is acting like it itself is frozen in time!"

Edward, unconscious in my arms now, began breathing regularly. After so long of me being used to him only breathing to speak and keep the human façade, having him breathe regularly was notably jarring to my senses. I could detect something beginning to pound in his chest. His skin began to grow so red it scared me at first, before I realized that Angela's body was just as red as Edward was. A mouthwatering scent tried to tempt me, and while I did register it I knew exactly who the scent of this blood belonged to. Immediately all temptation was quelled as my every sense denied it satisfaction.

My eyes were wide as I stared at Edward Anthony Masen before me. Not Edward Cullen, vampire and immortal; Edward Masen, normal human. Blood was in his veins, and his long-frozen heart was now pumping heartily again with thick blood.

Edward groaned, putting a hand to his head weakly.

"Oooooowwww…" he said, trying to sit up. When his lower body did not respond, he frowned. "Why—Why can't I move?"

"Um, honey," I said, and I cursed myself. I would've only called Edward honey if something was wrong, and he knew it. "You see, something unexpected—but still a good thing—happened when you drank the potion that Angela and I hadn't expecte—"

He glanced at me warily, and I pretty much melted.

I thought vampire-Edward's golden eyes were gorgeous. Edward Masen's emerald eyes went beyond even that. They were a deep, rich emerald green, like they were literally carved out of the aforementioned gemstone. They glittered and reflected the light of the cave just like any gemstone, and they were so deep.

Edward laughed at my expression, a rough but still beautiful laugh, but then squinted.

"Ugh did you two put something over my eyes?" he asked, fingering his face to see if he could remove whatever it was. "Why is everything so foggy and blurry?"

"Um, I've got a bit of explaining to do, and it might be best if you see for yourself," I said, reaching down. "You're going to want to hold on tight."

Edward's eyes popped open as I picked him up easily; he weighed almost next to nothing now! I knew I had to be as careful as I possibly could, and I turned.

"Thank you Ang! Sorry, we've gotta go! Good luck!" I said over my shoulder, before beginning to dart off. I hadn't gone a single foot of distance before I remember that Edward as a human might get motion-sick. I went off at a slightly-faster-than-normal human's sprinting pace.

"Bella, what's going on?" Edward asked, confused. "And how are you carrying me so easily?!"

"Just a second, Edward," I said. I arrived in Forks, and went to the nearest window shop. I set Edward down gently on his feet, and pointed to the window. "Look."

"What am I—" Edward began, but his green eyes suddenly widened as he stared in surprise at the reflection staring back at him. His jaw hung open, and began moving, but words did not come out.

"Angela says that the potion is denying the vampire venom inside of you. Your cells are moving normally like Carlisle said, and they went further than that. Look," I said, holding his hand gently up to his face. "You have blood."

I moved his hand, still ever so gently, to his chest.

"You have a heartbeat," I said.

Edward still looked more than surprised. Now that his skin was colored, I noticed a few small freckles I hadn't noticed before. They did nothing but make him look even better, as always.

"I'm—" was the first thing Edward said, trying desperately to get the words out of his mouth. "—a human again!?"

I nodded slowly. "Yes."

Edward stared in shock for a few more moments, before he looked over at me.

"And you're not affected at all?"

"What are you talking about, I'm as shocked as you are!" I said, laughing silently at his assumption.

"I mean the blood. Not too tempting for you?"

I knew exactly how to answer. Leaning forward, I cupped his cheek with one hand and kissed him directly on the lips. I felt the soft skin of his mouth conform to my diamond-like vampire skin, and I was extra-careful not to press too hard. He was right, humans were especially fragile. Especially when what I wanted to do most was to keep him safe.

Edward kissed me back, and I could hear his new heartbeat speed up, causing me to laugh and break away.

"Ang says that for two years now you're going to be completely human, Edward," I said. "Which means that now it's my job to protect you."

Edward's eyes shone with familiarity of the subject. He smiled with humor, but he also looked worried.

"Hey, it'll be all right. You know I won't let anything hurt you, right?" I asked, joking.

That's not what I'm worried about, love," Edward said, chuckling. His voice was not as smooth and much rougher as a human, yet still it was like music to my ears. His laugh was not like the deep-toned bells I had gotten used to, but to my ears it was still a melody. "I'm worried about putting you through the trouble and pains I had to go through to make sure you were safe."

"Edward, most of the time it was all freak coincidence. Victoria, James… they're already dead, and the Volturi have gone their own way. For two years, you're free to grow and I will make sure nothing can possibly hurt you," I reassured. "If you think you're going to be troubling me for the next two years, you're fooling yourself. There's nothing I'd rather do with this small piece of my forever with you."

Edward smiled and wrapped his arms around me. It felt only as hard as the gentlest caress of a breeze now that he only had the strength of a human, but still I cherished it greatly.

"Besides," I said, laughing silently as I hugged him back, ever so gently. "What could go wrong?"
