Love at first sight – set months after 'Divide and Conquer'

Samantha screamed as the piercing pain seeped through her body. Her energy had been nearly depleted, but she was just now experiencing the worst of it all.

"One more push Sam and you're done. Come on, you can do it! Breathe!"

"Aaahhhhhh!" Sam tightly gripped her best friend's hand as she went through her agonizing ordeal. Finally it was all over, the sweat had soaked through her gown and into the sheets. She was breathing heavily, exhausted.

"Congratulations. You have a beautiful baby boy" said the doctor as she handed Sam the little bundle. Overcome with emotion, she was unable to prevent the tears from flooding her cheeks.

"Sam, he's so beautiful." Janet whispered.

sniff "He's so tiny." "Love at first sight, just like your fathers."

"Congratulations Sweety." Janet said, as she placed a loving kiss on her friend's forehead. After some time, Janet left Sam alone with her baby to report back to her friends and father who were anxiously awaiting the news.

He pressed his lips, then tested his ability to open and close his mouth. He had his father's lips. Slowly he opened his eyes and stared at Sam for the very first time. They were an intense shade of blue-grey. He had his father's eyes. "Well his human father at least." She thought to herself. She wondered what qualities he would have of his alien father's as he grows up.

As she held her new born baby in her arms, Sam began to reminisce. She had never believed in love at first sight, but the moment she saw Martouf things changed. She didn't know him then, she didn't know his relationship regarding Jolinar, but she felt him, felt his passion and intensity. It was only then that she realized what Martouf and Lantash meant to her former captive. Much as she tried to deny her feelings for them she could not. Love was love, no sort of logic could refute that because ove could not be defined logically. Maybe it was Jolinar's love she felt, maybe her own, it didn't matter towards the end. They had found each other despite the distance between them, despite the differences between their two worlds.

"They would've loved you." She whispered. The tears she cried were bitter-sweet. In part because of the joy she felt holding her baby boy, in part the sadness and regret that Martouf and Lantash were not there to share in the moment. Things happened for a reason. She didn't plan on having a child at the very moment her career was at its peak. She didn't plan on losing the two she loved so much, but feared so much to love. But it happened. Though they were no longer with her, they left something so precious behind, the only thing that was a part of them left in her life. Their child together.
