This is a one shot to help me understand Jim's behavior. One of my only stories in the non-mature section.
Choosing Pride over Love
Mark wished he was there to slap the back of Jim's head. "What are you a freaking 11th grade girl waiting to get asked to the prom? Dude, she cancelled her wedding. Call her."
"Nah." Jim shrugged into the phone.
"Why the hell not?" Mark demanded.
"I told you about casino night. I laid it on the line. I told her how I felt." Jim was tired of going around in this endless circle that went no where.
"Yeah. But she cancelled her wedding." Mark pointed out for what felt like the 100th time.
"So." Jim still didn't feel like that was related to him.
Mark made a sound of utter disgust. "Dude, you caught her off guard with your 'I love you'. I mean a few weeks before that when she asked if you still had a crush on her you said no." Mark had garnered that piece of information during one of Jim's drunken moments where he was trying to figure out what the hell had happened to his buddy.
"Yeah, I know but..." Jim tried to justify it yet again. Mark just didn't understand. He had gave her his heart and she kicked it. Well, not really kicked it...
"So what the hell is she supposed to do? She was engaged! The fact that she kissed you back and didn't slap your face should tell you something." Mark was pointing out the oblivious but Jim couldn't hear the details.
"Yeah, but she said she was going to marry Roy. What I said, how I felt didn't matter to her." Jim felt like he was whining and may be he was.
"Jim, she cancelled her wedding. She didn't marry Roy. Am I not speaking English here?" Mark was losing it with him. Why couldn't he see Pam had removed the barriers and was waiting for him.
"She rejected me. Not once but twice." Jim pointed out as he switched his cell phone to his other hand.
"Dude, wedding cancelled. Pam dumped Roy." Mark decided if he used small words may be he would get through.
"Look she made her choice and it wasn't me." Jim stated it clearly for Mark.
"I get it! Halpert you big sissie! Your pride got hurt. Your ego got damaged. Poor little Jimmy. She rejected me. You aren't going to call the woman you susposely loved for 4 years because your pride is hurt?" Mark was really laying it on. May be if he pissed Jim off it would help him see what a mistake he was making. "Yeah, why make the effort to call her. After all, now nothing is standing in your way."
"Look I got to go, man. I will call you soon." Jim didn't want to fight but he was really annoyed at Mark. It was much more than his pride...
"Dude, she cancelled her wedding for you. If that isn't Princess Pam waving a flag then what is it? See you." Mark didn't know if he got through to Jim but it was worth a shot.
"See you." Jim was exhausted. Mark could be a real dick when he wanted to be. It wasn't just his pride that was preventing the call. It was fear of rejection. It hurt like hell to have her look at him and say that she couldn't. She broke his heart. He wasn't calling her...
