Chapter 1 Amber
Cloves POV:
"CLOVE" I'm woken up by my dad calling my name. "Come down here right now" he says. I sigh and get dressed making sure that my baby bump doesn't show.
Well I go downstairs I hear my big sister Amber talking to my mother, she's old enough to volunteer this year and if she doesn't she won't be able to next year because she'll be 19. So everybody expect her to volunteer and win "clove you're finally up" says my mother "I was afraid you had died in there" she said laughing.
"Morning" mumbles Amber as I sit down. "You know I heard a rumor that Cato Miller is going to volunteer today" she says "Cato Miller?" I ask in disbelief "isn't he to busy having sex with half the district?" Amber laughed well my mother shut me an angry look. "Are you going to volunteer?" I ask her "probably" she
replies.
I'm the only one who knows that she doesn't really want to be in the games she wants me to volunteer so mom and dad can still have a victor in the family. I told her I would but that was before I knew I was pregnant. she really expects me to do it but that would mean I'd have to risk my baby's life. Of course she doesn't know I'm pregnant so that just makes everything more complicated.
I remember when I first found out about my baby
flashback*
after vomiting in the training saunter I was forced to leave for the day. so I want outside knowing that if my parents find out I was kicked out of training they would literally kill me. I want for a walk and by accident I ran into Cato's mom Olivia Miller and she insisted on spending the day with me after I told her what had happened. We were having fun until I vomited again, so she wanted to take me to the doctor. I walked into the nurses room and she said I was pregnant I didn't believe her so she made me pee on a stick. I remember those stupid red lines mrs. Miller asked her if she could tell us who the father is, I panicked and told her that I already know who he is "I've only had sex once" I said. If she would find out who the father is she would never ever speak to me again and I wasn't ready to lose the only person that I consider "my mother" my real mother loves only tow people Amber and my father, she thinks of me as nothing more than a useless girl. I couldn't tell her the truth so I just want home. By the time I got there training was already over, I want up to my room and started crying.
end of flashback*
"Well just remember that the most important thing is getting sponsors" said my father, "and being part of the careers" adds my mother "what if Clove volunteers?" Amber ask, everyone looks surprised so she quickly explains "what if my name is called and Clove volunteers so one of us could still be in the games" ?
"Well... I don't see any reason why that would happen" replies my mother.
I walk to the place where the 15 year olds need to stand for the reaping. My sister is standing two rows in front of me looking stressed if she won't volunteer my parents will kick her out or worse.
I hear Quinn (the girl who comes to district two every year to read the names) saying something about the hunger games and how we are so lucky that the capital has forgiven us for our mistakes in the past. It seems as if everyone stopped breathing when she said "and the female tribute from district two is...Victoria Johnson! I see my mother looking at Amber hopefully I look at my stomach and I know I'll regret this for my soon to be very short life as I say "I volunteer as tribute".
