Chapter 6 careers
Cato's POV
I swear to god I will kill district 12 they think that they can win, well I will prove differently.
I don't want to let them ruin my mood I try to be happy because training starts today. Clove on the other hand doesn't seem very happy by the thought of training. She comes out of her room wearing a sweater over her training outfit I wonder why she seems so horrified when she set down.
Enobaria looks at her angrily but doesn't say a word. Brutus comes in and laughs "you're suppose to be her mentor, Enobaria help her instead of fighting with her" he says "I'm helping her but she doesn't want my help" reapplies Enobaria Clove rolls her eyes. Know Brutus seems angry "what the fuck is so important that you guys are fighting about?" He asks curiously. Clove bites her lip and doesn't answer instead she plays with the food on her plate Enobaria says "remember Brook? think about the reason that my parents kicked her out know that's what we're fighting about because Clove is in her state" I don't understand what they're talking about but Clove seems terrified Brutus seems shocked and then angry then he looks at Clove with pity and says "we need to talk" Clove looks very very mad "NO" she says.
Brutus sighs "Clove, honey calm down I just want to help you" he says softly "I've seen what you guys call 'help' and it's the total opposite" she says angrily. I don't really understand what they're talking about but I can see that Clove is very very angry so I decided to try calming her down "Clove..." I say slowly she looks at me and I see that her eyes are filled with rage "stay out of this Cato!" She hissed at me "that's a great idea you should leave the room, Cato" says Enobaria. I look at Clove wandering if I should leave her here alone with are mentors "leave, but get Esme, and you leave to, Enobaria" she says. I trust her so I do as she says I walk out of the room and find Esme.
Esme seems to understand everything way better than me and rushes to find Clove. We're about to go in but Brutus and Clove walk out of the room. "Training starts soon you tow should go" says Brutus "come on" says Clove.
She's very silent when we go down stairs I wonder why she sedately seems calm and relaxed. I'm about to ask her what happened but we're interrupted by the district 1 tributes. A blonde girl who looks about 17 and a tell 16 year old boy, they both seem like they would be very easy to kill. The boy seems more friendly so I decided to talk to him "I'm Cato and this is Clove, district 2" the girl looks at me and then at Clove her eyes fall on Cloves sweeter but the boy interrupters her "I'm marvel and this is Glimmer we're from 1" he says. I notice Glimmer looking at me, I know what she wants so I tell her that I'm not interested. In response she looks at Clove and says "nice sweeter granny" I'm filled with anger "fuck you, whore" I say, Clove and marvel laugh.
Training goes pretty well. Glimmer continued trying to flirt with me although I didn't pay much attention to her I was more focused on Clove. She told Brutus that she was "the best" with a knife and she wasn't lying. The other tributes don't seem very good except that one guy from 11 he looks strong but I could beat him if it comes down to that.
I see Clove feels way better after showing off in training, she smiles and seems more confident. I realize she hadn't taken off her sweater all day so I ask her about it "Clove aren't you burning in that sweater?" She looks at me surprised "I... I got my training shirt dirty so I just put it on" she answers I understand she doesn't want to talk about it so I give up.
Dinner is in half an hour but I know Clove doesn't want to go, I care about her so I don't want her to be alone. I ask her if she wants to go somewhere she agrees so we go to the garden. As I watch her walking I can't help but notice how pretty she looks... We walk in silence for a few minutes until Clove says "Cato I wanted to say... thank you, for standing up for me, with Glimmer" I'm surprised she brought it up "don't even mention it, she was being horrible to you" She smiles "thanks anyway"
We go silent again. She starts humming a song that I can't recognize "why did you volunteer? " I ask her suddenly she looks surprised "I mean Amber was suppose to volunteer so why did you take her place?" Now Clove smiles "Amber never wanted to volunteer" she says. That really surprises me I always thought that Amber was super interested in the games.
Dinner is suppose to be over. Clove and I go back to are rooms. "Thank you, for tonight" she says "anytime" I reapply, she laugh "well based on the fact that we don't have much more time in this world I wouldn't say 'anytime'". I laugh then I look at her and I suddenly feel something, like a kind of feeling I can't explain. I realize how beautiful she is, her dark green eyes, her perfect smile, her beautiful brown hair and I decide to do something that I never thought I would do I lean towards her and kiss her. To my surprise she doesn't try to stop me.
A small thought goes through my head: maybe in all this mess there is hope.
