Kurama: The Nine Tailed Demon Fox

Natsu's group had returned just after Naruto. Lucy began to explain her relationship with her father and how she ran away from home. She revealed everything that Jose told her, that her father had hired them to bring her back.

"I understand if you don't want me here anymore. I'm the reason why they came here and now because of me, Master is hurt!" Lucy was being held by Mira, who empathised with the younger girl.

"If only you answer this, do you like it here?" Natsu asked her seriously. Lucy looked at him, her tears still fresh.

"I love it. I always wanted to join Fairy Tail and despite what's happening…. I don't want to leave!" Lucy revealed her true feelings, she truly loved being a wizard in Fairy Tail.

"Then stay. You joined Fairy Tail because it was your choice. As far as we're concerned, you're one of us, it's not your fault that your dad sent Phantom Lord." Natsu told her with a smile, something everyone else in the guild shared.

"And when this is over, we'll have a word with your dad if you want." Naruto told her, punching his right fist to his open palm. He had an evil grin, making those who stood by him move away slightly, even Hinata looked at him nervously.

"Behave yourself. First, we need to get out of this situation. Then you can beat up Lucy's father." Mira told him with authority.

'B-Beat up my dad? Well, I can't say that he doesn't deserve it…' Lucy was slightly frightened, but she managed to wipe her tears away and gave a gentle smile.

"Any luck with Laxus?" Naruto asked the white-haired barmaid, only to see a frustrated look and Cana standing beside her, angry.

"He refused and made some comments." Mira replied and left it at that. In truth, Laxus told the two that it was their own mess to clean up, but he only offered to help if Lucy became his girlfriend and if Cana stripped for him.

"Then I guess I'll talk to him. I know he doesn't like you guys much, but I'm sure he'll help out if I ask him." Naruto had some faith in Laxus, making everyone but Natsu sigh as they believe his faith in Laxus is misguided.

Lucy then looked at Naruto, thinking that he was crazy for a second and how he was strange alongside his fox companion. Suddenly, she realised something important. "Kurama!" She shouted, making Hinata also remember after hearing Naruto's fox companion's name.

"That's right! Phantom Lord's Master attacked Kurama!" Hinata suddenly stated. This made Naruto look at them with shock before he became angry.

"And you only just remembered!?" Naruto asked them in a less then friendly tone. "What happened to him?"

"W-We don't know. Kurama managed to overwhelm two of the Element 4 until Master Jose hit with a sneak attack. We were knocked out after Kurama told us to run." Hinata spoke up, not being able to meet Naruto's gaze.

"Y-Yeah. That's what happened. We're sorry, we don't know what happened to him. I can only hope he escaped." Lucy was unnerved by Naruto, who sighed and managed to calm himself down.

"It's fine. Kurama is tough, but I worry about him a lot. Tell me where they attacked you and I'll head over there to see if I can find him." To Naruto, Kurama was one of his closest friends and hearing that he may be harmed made him angry, but Naruto also knew that Kurama was quite resilient and knew that Kurama had hidden powers that many would be in awe of. However, his thoughts did not last for long as the ground began to shake.

"An Earthquake?" Erza questioned only to hear more sounds. "No, it's coming from outside!" She and the others rushed out to see Phantom Lord's guild, only that it was now on a piece of land with legs attached underneath.

"Fairy Tail! Prepare yourselves!" Jose spoke through a large speaker and revealed a giant cannon which was ready to be fired as giant magic circle appeared.

"That weapon! Erza, he's using Jupiter!" Mira heard about that weapon, as did Erza. Erza knew that she had to act if Jose planned to use that cannon.

"Wait? You know about their weapon?" Naruto looked at Mira, who looked at him seriously.

"Back when I took jobs, I stumbled upon a Dark Guild which had blueprints of Jupiter. It's a cannon which can obliterate not just our guild, be surrounding area. The people here are in danger!" Mira replied and her voice reached out to the guild members.

"You do not stand chance Fairy Tail! Surrender Lucy Heartfilia and I shall spare you!" Jose thought that without Makarov in the picture, they have no one who could match his power. He thought that they would easily give up Lucy, only to see them glare at his base.

"We would never sell out our comrade!" Erza replied and equipped herself in a more defensive-type armour, with large shields in each arm.

"Adamantine Armour!? Erza, don't tell me that you're going to…." Mira questioned out loud. She knew that Erza would try to block Jupiter's attack if Jose fired the cannon.

"Have it your way!" Jose unleashed Jupiter, as it flashed and Fairy Tail seemingly took the attack head on. The wizards of Phantom that were inside their guild hall, smirked.

'I will protect everyone!' Erza joined her shields into one and focused, as the flash covered everything in the vicinity.

(Flashback, X779)

"Kurama! Get out of here!" A young and injured Naruto told an equally injured Kurama. They were facing a monster that easily stood at 50 feet.

"Not a chance! You protected me and now it's my turn!" Kurama's eyes turned completely red as his body radiated power and his form began to change. Naruto's eyes widened at what he was seeing before he fell unconscious.

(Sometime later)

"Welcome back brat. You had us worried." Makarov smiled at Naruto, who slowly seated himself.

"Hey…. Gramps. How long was I out?" Naruto then remembered exactly what happened. "Kurama! Where's Kurama!?" Naruto was silenced by Makarov pointing towards his left side to see a bandaged and sleeping Kurama. Naruto sighed in relief at this and looked at the old Guild Master.

"Naruto. After you passed out, Kurama went berserk and would have caused much destruction if I had not stopped him." Makarov then revealed his bandaged hands to Naruto. "You brought Kurama here with you almost a year ago. Now, I can tell but Kurama has hidden powers. Is there something you're not telling me?"

"I told you everything about him. I found him chased by people that called him a demon and saved him. I didn't know he could become a….."

"Demon?" Kurama's voice interrupted them and the fox cub looked at him. "That was first time I used that form and I did not want you to see me that way." Kurama looked away. "I understand that if you want me to leave the guild." Kurama's words made the other two look at each other, before they suddenly burst out laughing, confusing the fox.

"Hahaha. think you can leave that easily, then think again. I promised that you'll find a home and Fairy Tail is your home!" Naruto grinned.

"So what if you're a demon, everyone of you brats are my responsibility. I'll help you control that power of yours. It may take a while because I can tell that you have a lot of it and that you barely scratched the surface of it. You'll be able to control all of it." Makarov even promised to teach him some other magic in the time being to use. Kurama gave a small smile.

(End Flashback) (Play Fairy Tail OST-Kurogane)

Suddenly a large creature collided with the cannon and the blast went through the clouds instead. Jose watched in shock from the inside, but the Fairy Tail wizards looked on in awe and relief. Kurama had returned, looking a lot more menacing, his fur wilder than before, his eyes a deeper shade of red, his body more defined and facial features sharper. He was almost as tall as Phantom's guild. The cannon was bent upwards but was then shattered by Kurama immediately after the shot was fired.

"Kurama! You're alive!" Naruto shouted in happiness, with the rest of the guild cheering.

"That's Kurama!?" Lucy and Hinata's mouths were wide open. Mira gave a small smile, not her usual cheerful one, but one with relief and happiness.

"Kurama is quite strong you know." She told the two girls. "But he can't maintain that form for long and only uses it for emergencies." Mira then looked at the much larger Kurama. 'And this form of his isn't even his full power, according to Naruto and Master. But if he used any more, he would go berserk and rampage.'

(OST End)

'Damn! I used this form without thinking and rushed to stop the cannon blast. Sorry….everyone.' Kurama's body began to release steam until he reverted to his normal form. Naruto saw his friend fall and leaped into the air to grab him.

"Happy! Help me out!" Naruto asked the blue cat, who nodded and summoned his wings. Happy grabbed Naruto and flew him over towards the falling Kurama. Naruto caught Kurama.

"T-To think I had to be saved by you. That's my job." Kurama was annoyed but he was also tired and weak.

"Can't be helped. You pushed yourself, didn't think that was possible." Naruto grinned, greatly annoying Kurama.

"If I had the energy, I'd eat your face for that comment." Kurama's voice was still tired but he sounded a little better. "But the cannon is destroyed. I've done my part, so you guys kick their butts." Kurama's words made Naruto's expression go serious and the blonde nodded, with Kurama returning the nod before going unconscious.

"Take us down Happy." Naruto asked his blue friend.

"Aye sir!" Happy flew back down, with Erza also joining them.

(Within Phantom Lord's Headquarters)

"That damn fox! No… He may resemble one, but he's no fox." Jose said to himself. 'My grandfather told me an old story. A legendary demon that possesses enormous power, could that creature really be the same being? No, not possible, it was vanquished more than a century ago. And even if Fairy Tail's little pet could be that creature, it seems to have used its power already.' Jose then decided their next course of action.

"Sasuke. Gajeel." He called out to two of his strongest wizards. Both appeared in front of him. "Sasuke, I believe that you wanted to settle the score and show Naruto Uzumaki in his place. He's holding that fox, as long as you kill it, I don't care the method. You even have permission to use the Link." Jose's words sparked a fire within Sasuke, an evil flame which made him smirk. "And you Gajeel, when the opportunity comes, take Lucy Heartfilia. Follow them, I have a feeling they'll take her somewhere to safety. I don't care about the Hyuuga girl anymore."

The two left as Jose pulled some levers and smirked as he would enjoy Fairy Tail's reaction to a second Jupiter Cannon.

'Thank goodness I installed another two after Gajeel ate the original one.' Jose sighed and had an image of Gajeel eating Jupiter, making him frustrated.

(Back at the outside)

"What the hell?" Naruto and the others looked on in horror to see a second Jupiter Cannon.

"Surprise! After a previous incident, I decided to get a little insurance and install a second Jupiter!" Jose's voice echoed to everyone. "Now, my offer stands. You have 15 minutes to hand over Lucy Heartfilia. You can keep Hinata Hyuuga, but Lucy Hearfilia must be handed over to us in 15 minutes!" Jose emphasised and shut off the speaker. Suddenly, dark shades came out and attacked the Fairy Tail wizards. The wizards fought them off.

"Lucy! Hinata! Follow me!" Mira grabbed their arms and took them out of sight amidst the chaos. However, she did not notice that Gajeel was watching them from the shadows.

"These are Master Jose's Shades!" Erza cut a lot of them down. "But our main priority is take down Jupiter. There should be a lacrima empowering it! If we can take destroy it, Jupiter will be useless!" Erza yelled out to the other members.

"Natsu! That's your cue!" Naruto smirked at his fellow dragon slayer, who smirked back. Naruto took out a Shade with a water-enhanced kick. He was still holding Kurama in his arms.

"Got it! Happy! I need a lift!" Natsu asked his companion, who gave his usual response. The two headed towards Phantom's guild to destroy the Jupiter Cannon.

'Natsu is the best for destroying stuff. He's the guy for the job!' Naruto suddenly dodged a lightning bolt. "Watch it! You almost hit Kurama there, Sasuke!" Naruto glared at the smirking Sasuke.

"That's the idea, Loser." Sasuke took out his sword and channelled lightning through it. "My Master wants that fox of yours dead. And since you're in the way, I'll have to beat you first!"

"You want to kill Kurama?" Naruto's voice was low, but his anger was clear. "Over my dead body!" Naruto rushed Sasuke with water channelled through his feet collided with Sasuke's sword, causing a shockwave. Naruto used his other leg to kick Sasuke back and made a choice. "Erza!" The redhead cut through another Shade and turned her attention to the blonde. "Sorry! But look after Kurama for me!" Naruto ran towards Erza tossed Kurama towards her, who she barely caught. Naruto then dodged, Sasuke's blade, though he was grazed by Sasuke. Naruto tackled Sasuke and channelled water through his feet to blast them away from their current location to a place with less people.

"W-Wait Naruto!" Erza was too late and just sighed. "You did well Kurama. We won't let your efforts be in vain. You managed to save us and here I thought that I would be the one to do so. Master Jose and Phantom Lord shall pay for everything they have done!"

(With Mirajane)

"We should be away from Master Jose's sight." Mira stopped and waited with Hinata and Lucy for another person.

"What are you doing Mira? Why are we here?" Lucy questioned the barmaid only to see Reedus arrive with a carriage. "Reedus? What are you doing here?" Lucy then pieced it together. "Don't tell me that you're sending me away!?" Lucy wanted to stay and fight, despite not having her Celestial Spirit keys with her.

"It's for your own good Lucy. I have a plan, so don't worry." Mira replied, but saw Lucy's indignant expression. "I'm sorry Lucy." Mira whispered and showed Lucy her open palm. Lucy then felt dizzy before she collapsed, surprising Hinata.

"M-Mira! Why did you do that to Lucy?" Hinata was surprised and did not expect Mira to use magic.

"Because they're after her. We need to keep you and Lucy safe. Please get in the carriage and Reedus will take you to a safe house where they can't find you." Mira explained to her, only for Hinata to shake her head.

"I-I can't! I want to help out and protect the guild too!" Hinata was going to speak further, by Mira surprised her by knocking her out too.

"Reedus, take them to the safe house and protect them." Mira then glowed before transforming into Lucy. "I can trick Phantom's Master and buy some time."

(With Natsu and Happy)

Natsu managed to enter Phantom's guild and searched for the lacrima powering Jupiter. He and Happy searched and found a room where he could sense power emanating from it.

"Found it!" Natsu saw the lacrima which powered Jupiter but was stopped by a voice. "Let's break this thing and get out of here!"

"Halt!" Natsu and Happy saw a person come from behind the giant lacrima.

"You will have to get past me if you want to destroy this lacrima, Salamander." The person stood in their way.

"And who are you?" Natsu ignited his right fist.

"Totomaru The Great Flame." Totomaru simply answered and was ready to battle Natsu.

"Great flame? No one's flames are hotter than mine!" Natsu rushed Totomaru.

(With Naruto and Sasuke)

At the outskirts of town, Naruto and Sasuke fought each other one-on-one.

"Water Dragon's Bullet Shot!" Naruto crouched down and shot out five water-balls from his mouth, which Sasuke dodges. He made circle with his left hand before releasing a large stream of flames at Naruto, who smirked and powered through it. Sasuke then surrounded his body with electricity, but Naruto still landed a water-enhanced uppercut to Sasuke's, despite getting electrocuted. Sasuke rebounded after landed on the floor and wiped the blood off his mouth.

"You're a glutton for punishment." Sasuke had grown stronger and his lightning more potent, but the same could be said about Naruto. 'I became stronger after our last meeting and yet he's still strong enough to withstand my lightning! Not to mention he took me away from that blasted fox, so the Master will not be pleased.' Sasuke knew that Naruto was still taking damage from his attacks but is frustrated that the blonde was not staying down. 'I even used my flame spell, and he didn't even get scratched.'

"Stick to your lightning, your flames aren't hot enough to burn me. Not when I have someone named Salamander in my guild." Naruto praised Natsu because he was able to fight Natsu and other fire wizards could not compare to him.

"And I'll have you know that the Uchiha family specialised in Fire Magic. However, you are right. My flames won't cut it against someone like you who specialises in Water Magic. My lightning will obliterate you! Then I will complete my mission and kill that fox of yours!" Sasuke's last words made Naruto angry again and the two continued their clash.

I will reveal more of Kurama's backstory later on. Please keep in mind, the form Kurama used in this chapter is only a sample of the power he will show. Right now, think of it like Meliodas when he had his strength removed, that would be a big clue.
