Round Two

Ryuu sighed. Hinata wasn't taking the situation well. Understandably so. They had yet to find any trace of Naruto or Guren, even after hours of looking. Finally, Yomo cawed from above and Ryuu glanced up at him, seeing him turn he head to the side. Ryuu looked in the direction Yomo had pointed and saw Kakashi signaling him to regroup. Ryuu turned, flying over and landing as the others all did as well, minus Hei and Lena.

"Let's head back," Kakashi said. "We're not going to find them searching, and they may have made their way back to the others."

Ryuu nodded, glancing at Hinata, who Fu was trying to reassure. They all headed back to the building Yamato had made them when they first got there, and Ryuu knelt in front of Yukimaru.

"How're you holding up?" Ryuu asked.

"I'm alright," Yukimaru smiled. "Especially since I have this!" He held up a crystalized camellia. "Thanks to this, I know Guren's alright."

"How's that?" Ryuu asked as everyone turned their attention to the boy.

"Guren made this crystal specially for me," Yukimaru said. "If anything happens to her, the crystal will shatter. So I know she's alright. And I think I know what happened to her and Naruto."

"What?" Hinata asked.

"I think they're stuck inside the Three-tails' tummy," Yukimaru said.

Ryuu rocked back on his heels, remaining crouched. Weirder things had happened.

"Isobu, can you tell if your body ate our friends?" Ryuu asked.

"Sorry," Isobu said. "I can't tell. I don't have any link to my body anymore aside from it being my body."

"It's alright," Ryuu said. "What do you think Kakashi?"

"Well, weirder things have happened," Kakashi mused. "Especially where Naruto's involved. However, we have no idea what it's like inside that beast's stomach."

"That's right," Shizune said. "Even if we know Guren's alive, we have no idea of her condition, and we have no way of knowing if Naruto's alive at all."

"Sure we do," Ryuu said. "Hinata, do you think he's alive?"

"What?" Hinata asked. "I...I hope so."

"You'd feel it, right?" Ryuu asked. "Somehow, you'd feel it if he was dead?"

Hinata hesitated before nodding. "I think so." She closed her eyes. "Yes. He's alive. I know it. I don't know how, but I know he's alive."

"That's called love," Fu smiled. "Nothing's more powerful. So, how do we get the Three-tails to cough them up?"

"Well, first I think we should discuss how it ate them to start with," Ryuu said. "I don't know about you, but I didn't see a mouth."

"That's...actually a valid point," Fu said. "But I have no idea."

"If you can rupture that barrier around my body, it'll create an opening for your friends to escape," Isobu said. "The way I eat is sort of like a Space-Time Ninjutsu. Kind of."

"That barrier around the Three-tails appeared at the same time as Naruto and Guren disappeared," Ryuu said. "If my guess is correct, in place of a mouth, the Three-tails uses a sort of Space-Time Ninjutsu to send food to its stomach. And I'm guessing that if we put a hole in the barrier, we can create a way for Naruto and Guren to get out."

"That's an awfully specific guess," Kakashi said. "Speaking of which, you never explained how you knew the Three-tails was going to go on a rampage, or why."

"That's something that you and I should discuss alone," Ryuu said. "For now, suffice it to say that I'm making the guess I am based on information I've gotten about the other Tailed Beasts' abilities from my Jinchuriki girlfriend and the Tailed Beast inside of her."

Kakashi was silent for a moment before nodding. "Alright. What if you're wrong about this?"

"Then we break the barrier around it so I can get at it, and I hit it in the stomach as hard as I can until it pukes them up," Ryuu said. "If by some miracle that still doesn't work, I'll tunnel into the thing through the eye and bring them out the hard way."

"It's worth a shot," Yamato said. "But how will we find it?"

"I'll look for it," Yukimaru said. "I'm not sure how, but I can sort of feel it."

"Alright," Kakashi nodded. "Ryuu and I will try to free Naruto from the Three-tails' stomach while the Sealing Team tries to seal it away again. Yamato, you and Shino will be with them, along with Fu, in case it starts acting up again. Sai, you're on airborne surveillance. Everyone else, you'll secure the perimeter."

"Right," everyone nodded.

"Ryuu, let's go and talk for a minute," Kakashi said.

Ryuu nodded, following him into the other room where Kakashi turned to him.

"Talk," Kakashi said. "You've been acting strangely this entire mission, and you've been hiding things and making decisions on your own."

"Firstly, I knew that the Three-tails would go on a rampage because he told me he would, right before he sealed his soul and a small portion of his chakra inside of me, leaving his body to fool the Akatsuki," Ryuu said. "He said that once it uses up its chakra it'll die."

"You're a Jinchuriki now?" Kakashi asked.

"Yes," Ryuu nodded. "But I can't use his chakra or any of the other abilities a Three-tails Jinchuriki should be able to because he doesn't have enough chakra yet, though he's trying to build it back up. It's just going to take a long time."

Kakashi nodded. "What else?"

"The reason I seem to be acting strange is because the Three-tails used his fog that first time, and the illusion it created, to remind me about who I am," Ryuu said. "He saved me from the Uchiha Clan's hubris. As thanks, I promised to help, and this was what he decided on. As for Guren and Gozu, I didn't want them to die, and I could see that Guren actually cared about Yukimaru, meaning that she wasn't a lost cause yet. As for Gozu, he's not loyal to the Hidden Leaf. He's loyal to Guren, who he's in love with. So long as she's our ally and we don't turn on her, he'll be our ally too."

"Okay," Kakashi nodded. "I understand. Anything else?"

"Yes," Ryuu nodded. "One last thing. You remember me mentioning two new allies?"

"I do," Kakashi nodded.

"They're Homunculus, like Mhao," Ryuu said. "However, they claim to not be serving Orochimaru, and one of them, Hei, called Mhao his younger brother. He asked me about why I killed him, then sparred with me to test my strength as well as to see if I was telling the truth. Once he was satisfied, he agreed to help us look for Naruto, and he and Lena are still searching."

"Lena?" Kakashi asked. "That girl that you were imprisoned with?"

"No," Ryuu said. "This one's also a Homunculus, one who's apparently in a relationship with Hei. The name is a coincidence. I think. But either way, she helped Fu and Naruto with the Three-tails while Hei tested me, so she doesn't seem to be an enemy."

Kakashi nodded. "Is that it?"

"Yes," Ryuu nodded. "That's everything."

Kakashi nodded. "Alright. I'll send a report to Tsunade and see what she wants to do about Guren and the Homunculus, as well as you being a Jinchuriki. Once I've sent it, we'll go and find Naruto."

Ryuu nodded and they headed back outside, Ryuu meeting up with the others while Kakashi went to write the message.

Ryuu stared down at the barrier, then looked to Kakashi who had swam down to see it with him. Kakashi nodded. Yamato used his Wood Style Ninjutsu to hold it still and Ryuu and Kakashi swam down to it, Ryuu placing Repulsion Seals on his knuckles, and Kakashi forming a Lightning Blade. Kakashi went first, his jutsu cracking the barrier, but it didn't break. He moved out of the way and Ryuu slammed both fists down on the barrier, sending the cracks racing across the barrier's surface, a foot-wide hole being smashed into it below them. However, as soon as he did, a whirlpool formed, catching Ryuu and beginning to pull him down into the barrier. He swore internally, struggling to swim away, only for Fu's Chakra Arm to grab him and pull him back up to the surface. He sighed in relief as she set him on the surface beside her.

"Thanks," Ryuu smiled. "Ready."

"Now!" Yukimaru said.

Sai, who was flying overhead, had his ink bird release half of the massive sheet it was holding in a bundle, and the sheet opened as it fell, dropping hundreds of camellias into the whirlpool. Then, Yukimaru began to play the most beautiful and most amazingly impressive tune Ryuu had ever heard coming from a leaf held against someone's mouth. After a few moments, the last of the camellias were pulled into the barrier and Yukimaru's tune ended. However, after a few more seconds, the whirlpool slowly calmed, growing wider as it slowed before subsiding to gentle waves, and then to still water once again.

"No," Hinata breathed. "It can't have failed."

"It's going to be okay, Hinata," Ryuu said.

"We have to do it again!" Hinata said. "Please!"

"Hinata," Ryuu said. "You have to have faith in Naruto. But right now, we can't do it again. The Three-tails is awake, and he's not happy."

Just then, the water began to move again, seeming to want to prove Ryuu's point. It began to pick up rapidly until the waves were raging around angrily, trying to throw them all.

"There's no way we'll be able to seal it like this," Shizune said. "Fu, is there any way you can restrain it?"

"You'd seal her too," Ryuu said just as his eyes caught movement across the lake. "Oh great, more trouble."

Everyone looked but saw nothing.

"What is it?" Kakashi asked.

"Orochimaru's goons," Ryuu said. "Sai, take Yukimaru somewhere safe."

"I won't!" Yukimaru said. "I won't leave without Guren!"

"Yukimaru," Ryuu said. "You're thinking about her, right?"

"Of course," Yukimaru said.

"Good," Ryuu nodded. "Because as long as you keep her in your thoughts, she'll come back no problem. Besides, she's way stronger than some overgrown turtle. Right?"

"Yeah," Yukimaru smiled.

"Shall we?" Sai smiled, holding out his hand.

Yukimaru nodded and accepted his hand, climbing onto Sai's ink bird before Sai took off, flying away from them.

"So, which do we deal with first?" Kakashi asked as the water began to settle. "The Three-tails or the henchmen?"

"Leave them to me and Fu," Ryuu said. "Seal the Three-tails if you can. If not, we'll have to take it down the hard way first. If it comes to that, target its eye."

"Right," the others nodded.

"I'm coming with you two," Tayuya said. "I'm your teammate, after all."

"That's true," Ryuu nodded. "Kabuto, you come too."

Kabuto nodded.

"Let's go," Ryuu said, taking off instantly.

They ran away from the sealing team a ways before stopping. As they did, Hei and Lena landed in front of them. Tayuya and Kabuto leapt back but Ryuu raised a hand and shook his head.

"They're not our enemies."

"They're Homunculus!" Tayuya said.

"I know," Ryuu said. "But they're not like Mhao."

Tayuya hesitated before nodding.

"Did you find them?" Ryuu asked.

"No," Hei said. "Even after you broke the barrier, we found no trace of them. Also, Your enemies captured that boy again."

"Shit," Ryuu growled. "Where'd they take him?"

"Later," Hei said. "We're going to have our hands full first."

"Why?" Ryuu asked.

"Because the one in charge isn't human," Hei said.

"Amachi?" Ryuu asked.

"Rinji," Hei said. "He's not the original. He's an experiment."

"That's right," Rinji said, appearing in front of them, behind Lena and Hei, who both spun, leaping backward to stand with Ryuu and the others. "I'm so glad you're here Kabuto. You see, you're partly responsible for me."

"What are you talking about?" Kabuto demanded.

"After you told Lord Orochimaru about the Homunculus, Lord Orochimaru took another look at that old experiment," Rinji said. "He even went to Mhao's hideout and studied his cloning process, helping him perfect it. Then, he selected the old Rinji, the original, and took what he needed from him, combined it with what he needed from you, and made me. I'm basically the new you. All the brains, all the skills, none of the disloyalty."

"You're Kabuto's replacement?" Ryuu asked. "You? A nobody? What skills did Rinji have that earned him the supposed honor of being used as a base model?"

"He volunteered," Rinji said. "Oh, and being me comes with a few perks."

"What kinds of perks?" Tayuya asked.

"Well, first of all, this on," Rinji said, a bone spike erupting from his right hand.

"No fucking way!" Ryuu gaped. "Kimimaro's Kekkei Genkai?"

"That's right," Rinji grinned. "You two weren't the only ones he combined. I'm the perfect homunculus."

"You've got a lot of Kekkei Genkai, don't you?" Ryuu asked.

"You'll have to wait and see," Rinji said. "I'm not foolish enough to think I can fight all of you at once. And besides that, I've got something else to deal with. So why don't you play with my newest toy while I deal with that pesky sealing team?"

With that, he vanished and Ryuu grit his teeth, clenching his fests.

"I don't believe it," Kabuto said. "Orochimaru made a nobody into the perfect host."

"Perfect host?" Ryuu asked before his meaning dawned on him. "Oh shit. A homunculus that was created with a bunch of Kekkei Genkai..."

"Would still give Orochimaru those same Kekkei Genkai if Orochimaru were to possess that homunculus," Kabuto said. "He means to turn that thing, Rinji, into the perfect host."

"Well, he still wants Sharingan," Ryuu said.

"And how many DNA samples did I take from yours?" Kabuto asked.

"Didn't you destroy them all?" Ryuu asked.

"Orochimaru was the one running your tests," Kabuto said. "I was just collecting samples."

"Shit," Ryuu breathed. "Well, as long as he doesn't have Max or Lena's Kekkei Genkai."

"I don't have one," Lena said.

"A different Lena," Ryuu said. "She could animate corpses as unstoppable weapons. She died trying to escape, though."

Lena nodded. "I see. I'm sorry. I don't mean to cause you distress by choosing the wrong name."

"You're fine," Ryuu said. "You couldn't have known. Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and assume that whatever toys he was referring to are probably the other three."

"Most likely," Kabuto nodded. "Possibly Amachi as well, if he survived being hit by the Three-tails."

Ryuu nodded in agreement.

"We're about to have our hands full, aren't we?" Tayuya asked.

"Probably," Ryuu nodded.

A thick brown fog began to roll in quickly, obscuring them all. Ryuu activated his Sharingan, smirking as Fu and Tayuya closed their eyes, both beginning to sense for chakra. Kabuto was left as the only one from the Hidden Leaf who couldn't see, and Hei and Lena looked worried as well, though Ryuu was sure the three of them would be fine.

"They're coming," Tayuya reported.

"Amachi too," Fu said. "Below."

Ryuu nodded, and a moment later Amachi exploded up out of the water, driving his claws into Ryuu's back. However, as soon as he did, Ryuu exploded into a fireball, destroying the Water Clone instantly.

"Tch," Ryuu rolled his eyes. "You and those fucking clones."

Nurari, the ninja with the grey bodysuit, the creepy face, and some kind of slime over his entire body, according to Hinata, streaked at Ryuu from behind, only for Ryuu to smirk. Then, a second Ryuu burst out of the water, grabbing Nurari by the ankles before swinging him backward and down as a third burst out of the water, drilling his hardened left fist into Nurari's head, sending him spinning and flipping into the air. He splashed back down and began to stand, only for Ryuu to slam a right-handed uppercut into his face, flipping him into the air where the two clones both slammed a foot into his chest. Nurari streaked back down at Ryuu yet again, but this time he spun, his left arm stretching down and crashing into Ryuu, who exploded into smoke. Nurari landed on the water as his arm returned to normal before he swung both upward, two globs of white-tinted water shooting up and splatting loudly as it hit the other two Ryuus in the face.

"Sticky Water!" Nurari said. "Good luck getting that off."

Both exploded into smoke and Ryuu appeared behind Nurari.

"It's off," Ryuu said, forming a dozen Afterimage Clones. "My turn."

Fu spun, her heal swiping through a handful of the dozens of Smoke Clones around her, all of them dispersing, then reforming. The clones were all of Kigiri, a shinobi with a gas mask, a black trench coat, silver hair, and smoke jutsus, such as the smoke screen they were all inside of. The clones all lunged, Fu fending off their solid attacks and beginning to destroy them as quickly as she could, only for more and more to form outside the mob swarming in at her. Finally, she jumped, forming hand seals, and spun, firing a blast of water into the clones destroying them all.

"Binding Smoke Prison!" Kigiri's voice shouted.

The smoke hanging in the air from the clones turned pitch black and shot forward, wrapping around her from the shoulders to her knees, binding her arms to her sides and her legs together. She tried to raise her arms, but the jutsu was too strong.

"Got you," Kigiri grinned, stepping out of the fog. "Now you just hang right there and take a deep breath. Smoke Asphyxia!"

The smoke in the cloud around Fu shot inward, focusing around her head before beginning to force itself into her nose and mouth, Fu trying to scream but unable to exhale enough. Kigiri began to laugh as her struggling began to subside.

"Smoke Dragon!" Kiho shouted, firing the jutsu from his wrist-mounted grenade launchers.

Kiho was a short man with white hair, pale skin, a black poncho with a red border, an abnormally large head, and a set of his own Smoke Jutsus. Tayuya flipped out of the way of the smoke dragon, raising her flute to her lips, only for it to snap closed on her head from behind. She coughed, dropping under water instantly, only for Kiho's hand to reach down, grabbing her and yanking her back upward. As he did, however, she met him with an uppercut to the nose, throwing him away. She raised her flute to her lips again, but again she was interrupted by Kiho, this time with him firing grenades at her that trailed thick smoke clouds. They began to explode as they hit the water, thickening the fog even more, but after a moment, he stopped firing. Tayuya smirked and raised her flute, but as she blew into it, the fog bounced the sound back at her, forcing her to stop instantly, swearing.

"Nice try sexy," Kiho chuckled. "Unfortunately, my smoke is a pretty good sonic insulator, so whatever jutsu you were going to try will hit you before it hits me."

Tayuya growled in annoyance, exhaling a Vacuum Blade onto her Flute before dropping into the water again. This time, however, she was met with several grenades to the back, sending her flying out of the water again instantly.

Kabuto ducked and dodged around Amachi's claws, eyes narrowed in irritation. For a Water Clone, it was surprisingly strong. He dodged aside from a slash and slammed his Chakra Scalpel into its side, destroying it, only for two more to rise. Both lunged but Kabuto had grown tired of playing with clones. He ducked under their swipes and placed his hands to the clones' chests, shredding their hearts and destroying them. Just then, Lena flipped out of the fog, landing in a squat just before Hei landed in front of her, slashing his sword and sending a wave of flames into the fog. Kabuto could just make out Amachi flipping over the flames and sprinted forward. Amachi grinned and blasted him a point blank range with a Water Style, Great Cannonball Jutsu. Kabuto shouted in pain and annoyance as he was sent hurtling backward, Hei and Lena both charging instead. Kabuto flipped, landing on his feet again, then took off yet again, watching as Amachi fought the two Homunculus with a combination of his claws, scales that he fired as projectiles, and Water Style Jutsus, most of which he fired from his mouth. Just as Kabuto neared Amachi, he spotted the opening he needed. Amachi managed to catch Lena's leg and Hei's sword arm and grinned wickedly, slamming them together. However, just as he did, Kabuto slammed his hand to his back, his Chakra Scalpel instantly shredding Amachi's heart, Aorta, and any other important or unimportant blood vessels around Amachi's heart, killing him instantly.

Ryuu slammed a fist into Nurari's side and lifted him into the air before flipping and kicking him, sending him exploding across the surface of the water before Nurari flipped, landing on his feet and beginning to rapidly swipe his arms, hurling globs of Sticky Water at Ryuu and his Afterimage Clones, who made a show of avoiding them, even though it wasn't necessary. Finally, Nurari managed to hit a clone, only for the glob of water to pass through him. Nurari stopped, staring in shock before another Ryuu appeared below him, slamming a foot into the underside of his jaw. Nurari sailed into the air and all of the Ryuus disappeared besides one, who crashed into Nurari's back and sent him streaking into the air, far above the smoke screen, only for Ryuu to appear in his path and drill a hardened fist down into Nurari's nose, shattering it and sending him exploding back down into the water. Clearing a small portion of it, though the others were apparently elsewhere.

He dropped back to the surface of the water, but just as Nurari surfaced and fired a glob of Sticky Water, Kigiri suddenly shot out of the fog, blood trailing from his crushed gas mask, and intercepted the jutsu before crashing into Nurari, sticking to him instantly as both shot into the fog again.

Fu felt consciousness fleeing rapidly. this couldn't be it. She didn't want to die. Not like this. But she couldn't move, and she couldn't focus through the smoke invading her body to control her chakra enough to use Chomei's chakra, or any jutsus that would help. Fear gripped her, only for defiance and determination to flood her. She refused to die here. If she died, Ryuu would be broken beyond repair. She refused to be the thing that destroyed him. She closed her eyes, blocking out the agony of her lungs being shredded and inflated by the smoke being constantly pumped into her without allowing any to escape.

"Chomei!" Fu shouted internally.

Chomei's chakra exploded off of her instantly in a shockwave, blasting all of the smoke off of her before Chomei, now in control of Fu's body directly as Fu was allowing him control without a Tailed Beast Cloak, began to form hand seals. Then, the smoke exploded back out of Fu for several seconds, crashing into Kigiri and shoving him back rapidly, though he used chakra to stick to the water's surface to try and resist. Then, the smoke was replaced by a Pressure Damage and the resulting explosion sent him streaking backward all of one foot before water that Chomei was controlling remotely caught him as a hand and hurled him back at Chomei. a Tailed Beast Cloak Version Two formed around only Chomei's right fist and when Kigiri reached Chomei, he was greeted by that fist exploding into his face, completely smashing his gas mask, crushing it into his head and caving the lower half of his skull in. Then, he shot away into the fog, a spray of blood following him. Then, Chomei, sat on the surface of the water, coughing up blood before beginning to work to heal Fu's destroyed lungs, diaphragm, cardiovascular system, and basically everything else in Fu's chest cavity that had been crushed by her lungs expanding. Had her ribs not been in the way, they would have exploded.

Tayuya shoved herself up to her feet, gritting her teeth as her back burned agonizingly from the explosion. She felt a breeze on her back and glanced down, seeing the front of her black, sleeveless kimono shirt hanging loosely from her obi. She sighed irritably, ripping it off.

"Oh, now there's a lovely sight," Kiho's voice sneered from all around her.

"Buzz off, creep!" Tayuya snapped. "I'll deal with you in a minute. I need to put a new shirt on, thanks to you."

She unsealed a new shirt from a scroll, putting the scroll away ad pulling the shirt on. This one was also black but had a three-quarter right sleeve this time. She fixed her obi over the shirt before sighing, restoring her Vacuum Blade on her flute. Just as she did, Kiho leapt out of the fog at her, only for Kigiri and Nurari to slam into the left side of Kiho's head, the sticky water instantly getting stuck to him too, the three of them spinning away into the fog again.

"Oh you have got to be kidding me!" Tayuya said. "All that and the fight ends on accident? What a ripoff!"

"Don't be sad," Ryuu said as he stepped out of the fog. "Mine ended that way too."

"I blame you," Tayuya said. "What about Kabuto?"

they looked around, noticing the fog lifting now that Kigiri had been dealt with and saw Kabuto kneeling beside Fu, his hands glowing green and his face set into a determined mask, a spot of water below Fu dyed red as blood leaked down her chin. Ryuu was at his side in less time than it took Tayuya to register what she was seeing, his hands also glowing green as he instantly noticed the enormous problem, setting to work fixing it as well. After a few seconds, they finished mending the damage and Chomei coughed up blood one last time before sighing, taking a few breaths, Fu's weight settling back against Ryuu, who shifted to cradle her.

"Thank you," Chomei said. "That...could have been...a little messy. We're going to...sleep now. She's...okay."

Then, Fu's eyes slid closed and she fell limp. Ryuu quickly scanned her to make sure she was stable before lifting her into his arms, sighing in relief.

"What happened?" Tayuya asked.

"Kigiri nearly burst her lungs," Ryuu said. "I don't know how, but if Chomei hadn't saved her..."

"But he did," Tayuya said. "She's safe now. Let me have her. I'll get her back to the cabin."

Ryuu nodded, gently setting Fu on Tayuya's back, Tayuya wincing before shifting Fu a little higher and running off toward the cabin. Ryuu looked to Kabuto and he nodded, following her without a word, catching up quickly. Ryuu sighed, taking a moment to calm himself before turning to Hei and Lena.

"Alright," Ryuu said. "Now, let's go find Rinji. He's the last real threat, at least at the moment."

Hei and Lena both nodded. However, just as they turned to leave, one of Nurari's arms crashed into each of their guts, hurling them backward. All three flipped, landing on their feet as a massive blob of light grey goo grew out of the water, Nurari, Kigiri, and Kiho's faces sticking out of it.

"Our turn," Nurari's face grinned as Kigiri and Kiho both same into the blob, only to suddenly grow out of the sides of Nurari's face.

The three faces groaned before stopping, Kigiri and Kiho's faces stretching out from the sides of Nurari's as Nurari grinned down at them.

"Happy to see us again?" Nurari asked as the blob shifted its shape into a slightly smaller, oval-shaped one with six long tentacles like legs.

"Well that's...freaky," Ryuu said.

"That's disgusting!" Lena said.

"Eh, I've seen worse," Ryuu said. "Hei, let's burn it."

Hei nodded and both shot forward, forming hand seals rapidly. However, before they could finish, Kiho's grenade launcher barrels suddenly extended from one of the blob's legs, opening fire and blasting all three several times before they splashed down in the water, managing to avoid further injury. Ryuu grit his teeth. Dealing with this thing and then Rinji right after was going to be a pain in the ass. He mentally sighed, forming several hand seals. Then, he turned toward the blob, and he was off.
