Ch. 50
Yuga sat in class between Yoshiaki and Riko with a pretend smile on his face. Even though he was happy to have already met his knew class mates, Yuga was still a little nervous. However, he was happy to be sitting near his new friends, especially one in particular. The only thoughts going for him now was that he hopped his sister was doing okay.
Ayu was only half happy as she was sitting beside her best friend, Kasumi, but she was also sitting beside Masaki. She didn't really like him at the moment as she thought he was a know it all. Behind her sat a fuming Sogen and in front of her sat Ayumi. For her she wasn't as nervous as she thought her brother was. Unlike her, her brother was kind of a shy child.
Yuga was never one to really step out into the spot light, even though he was a very popular student with his teachers and fellow students. He had even become the star of their old school's tennis club. Ayu had to giggle at how every time he blushed when he got his picture got taken. Unknown to her, as a smile appeared on her face, the boy sitting to her left had a faint blush on his face.
As the day went on both Mikado children had a pleasant first day, that was until the tennis coach caught up to the both of them with a few of their classmates, already in their tennis gear. "I'm glad we caught up to you two, I'm coach Kirt and I wanted to know if you two would like to join our team," said the coach in a kind voice.
The two just looked at each other knowing why he truly wanted them on his team; they were so far, in their age group, the top tennis players in their nation. Ayu looked like she was thinking about, but was shocked when her brother refused.
"What?" was everyone's reaction.
"Sorry coach, but I don't know if I want to play tennis anymore," answered Yuga looking kind of depressed.
"Why you say that son?" asked the coach. Even though he did want both of the Mikado kids on his team, he could tell something was wrong. A lot of the teachers had heard that two of the top students from Kobe was coming to their school, but knew it was due to their father's passing away. The coach wondered if that had anything to do with that.
"I rather not say, but thank you for the offer," said Yuga bowing to the older man. "If you want to Ayu, that's okay with me," than Yuga started to walk to the front gate.
Ayu and the other kids watched as he walked off hoping that he would be okay. Ayu hurried after her brother, but also calling back to the others she would think about it. When she finally caught up to her brother at the gate, she could tell something was really wrong.
"It's not just about daddy, is it," she finally asked.
"No, it's not," said Yuga as they began to walk again.
Brother and sister held hands as they carefully walked home together. Looking straight ahead just keeping the silence for a moment, "It's about Naoki, isn't it?" At that Yuga stopped walking pulling his sister a bit. "I'm right."
"Our classes are the only ones who know about him, and with everything, what if they all find out, and…"
"What, they start comparing you to him?" asked Ayu looking up at her brother.
"Yeah," said Yuga making them walk again.
"So what, if they do," stated Ayu. "You are a great tennis, and you no mom may not be the best player ever, but she loves the game as much as daddy and Naoki do."
Yuga looked down at his sister who was smiling. "Don't let other influence you, do what you want, because you are one of the best tennis players ever."
At that Yuga smiled back at his sister. "Your right, I'll talk to the coach tomorrow."
It truly was a first good day at school. Both siblings just hoped that their good days continue.
When they got home they could tell something was wrong with grandmother.
"Welcome home you two, I hope you had a first good day," Mrs. Irie said with a little too much excitement.
"Um, yeah, it was good," said Yuga wondering what had happened.
"Is everything alright Nana?" asked Ayu.
"Nothing's wrong dear, was just a little lonely here without you kids," said Mrs. Irie putting some snacks out for the children. Both children just shrugged and would talk about it with their mom and Uncle Yuki later.
Mrs. Irie on the other hand just watched the kids hoping they would stay with them forever.
'I don't think I could bare losing those two and mother again."
