Chapter 12
Klaus stepped outside to the front of the house after a bit, assuming Bonnie had had enough time to cool off. He had no idea what was going on with him. He believed he could forget about Bonnie after only one nice night with her. But even after leaving her alone for a few months, he couldn't stop thinking about her. The sensation of her. Her tone of voice. Her laughter. Her moans of pleasure. It had all taken up residence in his mind and refused to go. Now that he had her back, albeit under unusual circumstances, all he wanted to do was keep her near, keep her with him. He'd never cared that much for anybody before, and it was as if his body wouldn't let him stop. Did he want it to stop?
He glanced around for Bonnie once he was outdoors, but he didn't see her. He could smell her scent wafting through the air, but it was dissipating. But he also detected the fragrance of someone else, someone he knew. He took a step forward and felt something beneath his feet. He picked it up, and it was Bonnie's grandmother's necklace, which she usually wore around her neck. Something wasn't right.
"Bonnieā¦" He ran into the woods without thinking or informing anyone.
It was dawn when Bonnie awoke. The light shone through the windows of the cabin she was sitting in. She could smell the bayou's muddy water and hear the buzzing of the insects. She scratched her chin, feeling a lump on the back of her neck. Her wrists were tied behind her back as she sat on the hardwood floor. The bindings dissolved themselves as she muttered a simple spell.
Bonnie was attempting to devise an escape strategy when her captor entered the room. Her voice almost stopped in her throat as she realized what happened. "Tyler?"
Tyler Lockwood stood over her like he hadn't aged a day, and he hadn't. He was Klaus's first successful effort at producing additional hybrids, but he was also Klaus's worst disappointment. Tyler had suffered dearly for going against Klaus' desires for an ideal hybrid family all subservient to him. He despised Klaus with every ounce of his existence, and Bonnie understood why. Nonetheless, he had abducted her.
"Hey, Bonnie," Tyler greeted nonchalantly as if they were just having a friendly meeting.
"Do you want to tell me why you hit me over the head and kidnapped me? And where are we? The Bayou?"
"It's a cabin of a friend of mine down here." Tyler gave Bonnie an up-and-down look that Bonnie could only describe as disgusted. "I didn't believe it when I heard Klaus had knocked you up with some magical baby, but I guess the rumors were true."
Bonnie felt vulnerable, so she put her arms about her stomach. "So? What's that got to do with you? You disappeared from Mystic Falls years ago and cut us all off. You made it clear you didn't want to know anything about any of us."
"Klaus killed everyone I cared about. He ruined my life." He knelt down so that he was eye level with her. Bonnie noticed a crazed look in his eyes where she recalled feeling kindness for her and her friends. "You know he's just going to use you and the baby? This is just a power grab for him, Bonnie."
"What the hell are you talking about, Tyler?"
"I heard about your pregnancy through a witch friend of mine. She had a vision about your baby, about the destruction it would cause."
"Sabine." How did Tyler know Sabine? Is this where he had been the entire time he vanished? The city of New Orleans
Tyler paused before disclosing his secret. He didn't like kidnapping Bonnie and holding her prisoner, but it was a necessary evil. "Your baby can be used to make other hybrids. It was the only part of the vision she could decipher."
"You don't know that for sure. The witches here have a vendetta against vampires. She could be lying. And you're better than this, Tyler."
Tyler shook his head. "He really has you under his spell, doesn't he? Think about it, Bonnie. Why else would he give a damn about you, about this kid? Klaus doesn't care about anyone. He only cares about how much power he can grab and this is his ultimate weapon and you're falling for it." Tyler rose slowly to his feet. He told himself that he would talk to Bonnie first, that he would attempt to reason with her in the name of their childhood friendship. Klaus, on the other hand, had spun a web that was far too thick. He was fortunate to have a backup plan. "It doesn't matter. That serum should be kicking in now anyway. This way you'll be free and everyone will be safe from Klaus's wrath."
Tyler's remarks made Bonnie's heart race. He was her friend. They have been friends since they were children. "What serum?" He didn't answer. "Tyler?!" She didn't have to wait long for a response, though. A piercing ache in her stomach caused her to collapse over onto her hands and knees. Her body temperature was rising, and she could feel perspiration forming on her skin. Another searing ache forced her to scream in agony. "What did you do?"
"I knew there was a possibility I wouldn't be able to convince you. After all, you were manipulated enough by Klaus to sleep with him. Sabine and I came up with a contingency plan." Bonnie lay powerless on the floor, sweating through her clothing and moaning in anguish. "You're linked to Sophie Ann, right? Well, we injected her with a serum that raises your blood temperature. She'll be fine, just a little fever. But you...it'll be enough to cause a miscarriage. Problem solved."
Bonnie swore silently in her thoughts. She couldn't save herself because the serum's effects were caused by her link. She could have possibly saved herself if they had ejected it into her. Without a doubt, Sabine was aware of this. Another agony went through her stomach, and she gasped as she managed to get back to her hands and knees. With a deadly glare, she stared up at Tyler. She could see he was having fun with it, just a little. "You hate Klaus so much for killing your family, for turning you into a sired slave. He did what he did out of vengeance for you ruining his plans. And fuck trying to help me, you're doing this for your own revenge against Klaus. You're not better than him!"
"Believe what you want, but this is for the best, Bon. I promise."
Bonnie was able to summon enough energy to cast one spell. Tyler felt a pulsing energy in his neck before it wrenched and broke, knocking him unconscious and leaving him in a heap on the floor. Bonnie collapsed to the ground, her cheek on the ground. Her entire body was on fire, and the stomach aches were exacerbating. She begged God and her ancestors not to let this deception succeed. Her baby had done nothing wrong, regardless of what some vision stated. Her child was sweet and pure. She didn't deserve to die before taking her first breath.
The door was yanked from its hinges and slammed onto the shack's hardwood floor. Klaus paused at the doorway, taking in the entire sight. Tyler Lockwood was found on the floor unconscious. Bonnie was in anguish not far from him. He dashed up to Bonnie and scooped her onto his lap. He could feel the heat coming off her body as she was saturated in perspiration. He pushed her hair out of her face and cradled her against his chest. "What did he do to you?"
"Not me." She gripped his shirt as if it were a lifeline. "Sophie Ann. They injected her with something. It's raising my temperature because of the link. They're trying to cause a miscarriage." Bonnie grabbed her stomach with her free hand. She was going to resist it. She would fight it for as long as she could, even if it meant her death.
Klaus's heart sank into his gut. Not just because he saw Bonnie struggling to combat this, but also because he was afraid of losing his kid. He hadn't wanted to become attached to anything. Attaching oneself to objects means exposing your enemies to weaknesses. But somewhere along the way, he couldn't help but fall in love with his unborn kid, which informed him he wasn't the monster he'd made himself into. And then there's Bonnie...his Bonnie. Those witches would never get away with any of this. Klaus bit into his arm, scarcely feeling the resulting pain. He brought the bleeding wound to Bonnie's lips. "Drink, darling. Please." He knew it wouldn't entirely stop everything, but it would stall it. It'd delay long enough to accomplish something, anything.
Bonnie agreed and drank the blood from his wrist. Drinking blood was disgusting in her thinking, yet it tasted nice, sweet. When it touched her tongue, she needed more of it. She'd had vampire blood to cure her before, but it had never felt this good. It felt like safety, warmth, love, and home. Klaus sat there and watched her, feeling her heartbeat as if it were his own the instant her lips met his wrist. The sensation he was experiencing was a flush of pure joy combined with arousal that he couldn't deal with at the time.
A weight was suddenly removed from Bonnie's chest. The stomach aches subsided, leaving her with only the post discomfort. She no longer felt like she was on fire, and her perspiration began to feel cool on her skin rather than sticky and unpleasant. She pulled away from Klaus' wrist, and his wound healed instantly. She locked her gaze on him.
"I think Davina figured it out," Bonnie breathed out trying to catch her breath and regain her internal balance.
Klaus rested his palm on her sweat-drenched cheek. His expression was still anxious, but his eyes were relieved. He drew her in closer, pressing his forehead against hers. He had almost lost her and their child, and the idea of losing them both, especially Bonnie, was too much for him to bear. When had that occurred? What was the matter with him? Why would the mere notion of Bonnie not being at his side drive him insane? Bonnie, on the other hand, felt the same way, and that terrified her more than she would ever admit. She knew she shouldn't be harboring feelings for Klaus, or any sentiments at all.
"Can you stand, love?" Klaus whispered.
Bonnie nodded, and Klaus untangled himself from her long enough to assist her to her feet. He still had his arm around her, just in case. She appeared to be too feeble to accomplish anything at the moment. He, on the other hand, was well aware of the situation. She would gather all of her power if she had to. His little witch.
