Chapter 13
Tyler groaned as he started to come back from having his neck snapped by Bonnie. He sat up rubbing his neck and cursing out loud. He had left Bonnie and his friends at a time when Bonnie was still figuring out who she was and her power. He underestimated how powerful she had become because the serum should have rendered her useless and incapable of having enough strength to use any kind of magic. His eyes scanned the floor not seeing any sign of Bonnie or evidence that his plan had worked. As he looked up, the world stopped as he saw Klaus. He hated that even as much as he hated him, he was still a little frightened of the original hybrid.
Tyler didn't have time to think or say anything before he was against the wall with Klaus's hand through his chest gripping his heart just hard enough to hurt but not hard enough to kill him...yet. "You're creating a weapon of mass destruction," he grunted out through the pain, "And somehow brainwashed Bonnie into doing it for you!"
"I should have killed you when I had the chance," Klaus growled, "How dare you lay hands on what's mine!"
Bonnie didn't flinch or try to help Tyler. All she did was watch Klaus make him suffer feeling he deserved it. What remained of their friendship had flown out the window when he had tried to kill her baby. "Sabine told him about her vision. Apparently they found out that the baby's blood can be used to make hybrids." She glanced over at Klaus.
Klaus's coolness faltered barely slightly. He'd never considered it as a possibility, but it made sense. His unborn child had his blood as well as the blood of a witch, magical blood that might sustain someone during the transition. He pushed the thought aside for the time being since, to his surprise, it wasn't significant to him. The baby itself was significant, not what it could accomplish for him in terms of power. It was a foreign emotion to him, one he never thought he'd experience at this point in his life.
"You tried to kill my child," he continued with eyes starting to glow yellow, "You tried to kill Bonnie. All because of some propechy a demented witch told you. I knew you were stupid Tyler but somehow I never took you for a complete idiot. Give me one reason I shouldn't end your pathetic existence right now."
"Because he belongs to me," came a voice from the front door.
They all turned to see a woman with olive complexion, hazel green eyes, and dark brown hair that fell freely to her shoulders strolling in. Bonnie had a witch instinct that told her this woman was a werewolf and, more crucially, an alpha. She exuded rustic, regal vitality, as did the man with dark brown curly hair who trailed after her.
Tyler was given a disapproving glance by the woman. "I had a feeling you were up to something when you didn't come back last night. I thought you were smarter than this, Tyler."
"Stay out of his, Hayley," Tyler snapped at her, "This has nothing to do with you."
Hayley folded her arms across her chest. "If it has to do with a werewolf in my territory and in my pack, then it has everything to do with me." She cast a peek across to Klaus, making no effort to break his grasp on Tyler before returning her gaze to the younger hybrid.
Finally, the man behind her spoke up. "Only you would find a way to pick a fight with an original."
Tyler scowled bitterly, like a chastised kid. Klaus cast a glance between them. "Excuse me, but you've interrupted my process of thinking of punishments for this wretch."
Bonnie put a palm on Klaus's chest to calm him worked right away, to to her and Klaus' amazement. "Who are you?" she asked Hayley intrigued by her.
It was the first time Hayley had observed Bonnie in the room, yet she stared at her with gentle eyes. "I'm Hayley Marshall and this is my husband, Jackson. We're the alphas of the Crescent Wolf pack, the pack Marcel pushed into hiding in the bayou."
"So Marcel didn't completely kick all the werewolves out of New Orleans?" The knowledge of Marcel's unsuccessful intimidation effort made him happy.
"I didn't move my pack because I'm scared of Marcel and his vampire army. I did it to protect my family."
"Tyler came around about a year ago," Jackson added, "Said his whole family was dead, he was forcibly turned into a hybrid by Klaus, and he had been wandering around for a while with nowhere to go. Hayley and Tyler apparently became acquainted in Mystic Falls so she let him join the packā¦as long as he followed the rules that is."
Hayley motioned to Tyler. "We don't get involved in vampire business of any kind and we don't make our presence known which are two rules he's obviously broken." She shifted her gaze to Klaus. She didn't appear to be scared by him or even afraid to communicate what was on her mind. Bonnie received the impression that this girl had gone through a lot in her life dealing with individuals who were just as terrible as Klaus Mikaelson. Dealing with Marcel, a vampire on a power trip, was probably the least of her concerns.
"Drop him, Mikaelson. He's part of my pack so he's mine to deal with." Hayley's eyes flared yellow when Klaus made no effort to release his grasp on Tyler's throat. "You may be a vampire, but you're also a wolf and, to a wolf, law is everything. Let him go."
Klaus growled, his teeth tightened. He intended to torment Tyler gradually, maybe burying him alive and then digging him out in a century to prolong the pain until he killed him. But one look at Bonnie caused him to let go of the youngster and let him fall on the floor. She was putting up a brave face, but Klaus could see the tiredness and weakness in her eyes. Tyler's little ploy had stolen more from her than she dared to admit. All he wanted now was for Bonnie to return to the estate as soon as possible.
"You're just going to let them go?!" Tyler shouted through the bruise on his throat, which was already healing. "They have a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off and destroy all of us!"
Hayley knelt down, putting herself face to face with Tyler. "Not our problem." She seized his face with a clawed hand, the points of which bit into his flesh, causing blood beads to drip down his cheeks. "Not only did you break my rules, but you broke the most sacred law among the wolves. You attacked another wolf's mate."
"Mate?" Bonnie was perplexed. Only now did she understand how little she understood about werewolves and how their packs worked. Tyler and a few others were the only werewolves she had known, and none of them were really knowledgeable about werewolves.
Hayley cast a glance towards Bonnie. Oh, how uninformed this witch was about what she had gotten herself into. She gave a smirk. "The great hybrid Klaus Mikaelson doesn't even know when he's imprinted on someone? Figures." Hayley let go of Tyler, but he didn't dare to move or flee. "Take the pregnant witch home, Klaus. I'll handle this one."
Klaus, as much as he intended to make Tyler pay for everything, had other plans. Mate? Imprinting? He had no notion what all of this was about. But he'd find out after ensuring Bonnie was safe and sound back at the mansion. "Come, love." He grabbed Bonnie's hand in his and led her to the door. She lacked the strength to fight to stay, and she knew Tyler deserved whatever Hayley was about to do to him. She let Klaus lead her out of the hut, her newfound scorn for an old friend. Bonnie heard the latch click as Jackson shut the door behind them.
