Authors Note: This story takes place during Episode 24 of the anime as Rosette and Chrno are sitting on the porch together.
The chill of the night hung in the air as the last moments of daylight passed.
Exhaustion crept over her as she stared out into the distance. Yet, she felt a certain comfort having him by her side.
He always remained at her side. Vigilantly watching over her. Ironic that her guardian angel was actually a demon.
She had always thought that perhaps on some distant hope they could stay like this. Perhaps they could live together happily. Perhaps …
No. It was too painful to think of. In this cruel messed up world things never worked out that way. In a time of so much suffering how could she expect the world to give her any less?
As she looked into that gentle smile, a degree of warmth crept into her heart. Was this it? Was he God's gift to her? She wanted to believe that. She wanted so desperately to believe that even when so many others saw him as a threat. A monster. A brutal, vicious savage.
As he raised a hand, gently brushing it through her hair she felt that she was truly in heaven. She had prayed every night that God would grant her just a little more time with the one she cared for. The one she truly loved.
She glanced to the setting sun watching it sink below the horizon. It was funny to see how well the light and darkness blended together into a thing of such beauty.
"It'll be alright," he gently whispered into her ear as the last rays of the sun disappeared.
