Just in case you wonder what's going on with the differences and how the chapters aren't linking 😉 so if you are a little bit confused just click the previous chapter only a few bits were edited at the very bottom of the chapter nothing to concern yourself over this is just more of a FYI thing (For Your Information)
Chapter 117
Daryl snorted, but before it could be taken the wrong way he commented, "Luna ain't gonna like that." And she wouldn't, the way humanity lived had now changed, however, not enough time had passed for all those time-honoured traditions to leave people's minds. In other words, they'd feel slighted if they weren't invited. They'd take it as an insult, that they didn't matter. Honestly though? Most of em didn't, there were a few people he cared about in this world, even before it all went to hell. He'd do everything he could to save everyone here at P.A but it didn't mean he wanted to be surrounded by em all day.
Harry's lips pulled into a smirk, devious and amused. "You may have a point." He replied, wincing at the thought of all the spells Luna would hit him with in her anger. "Definitely can't do it without her anyway, I don't think I can bond us together, there needs to be a witness… to harness/finish the bond." All bonding requires a witness whether the bonding was willing or not (all bonding requires wiliness) as did matrimonial ones.
"Then get her here," Daryl stepped forward, chest to chest with Harry, who's green eyes were glimmering mischievously. He wasn't sure whether the confidence had come from, but he just knew he wanted this done today. An image of them returning and a possible bonding being mentioned and a whole spectacle being made caused him to shudder inwardly in horror.
Daryl also knew Harry well enough to know his partner wouldn't want a spectacle either. They were both very private people, and as protective as they were of everyone here…they weren't exactly the most sociable people. They were as opposite of sociable as one could get.
The smirk slowly faded away, leaving a small but befuddled smile in its wake, "Are you serious?" he hadn't known Daryl to be any other way, so he had a good idea that he was.
"Yes," Daryl replied, he wasn't one for 'kidding around' and when he spoke, he'd already given it a great deal of thought. Daryl wasn't one for talking for talking's own sake. Hell, there had been days in the past where he'd gone weeks without a single word leaving his lips.
"Alright," Harry said softly, giving his partner – soon to be bonded, husband – a quick peck on the lips before leaning against him. Wand lazily moving in a circular motion, "Expecto Patronum message!" with that his stag burst forth from his wand, zooming off in the direction of P.A.
Harry put his wand in its holster, and wrapped his arms around Daryl's neck. They'd been far more affectionate than normal, due to the fact they were entirely alone. Just like they were more affectionate when they were alone in the house. Or more accurately the bedroom.
"What about your 'Fessers?" Daryl pointed out, well aware of how much respect Harry held for them. Especially Severus Snape, who had on one hand been an absolute shit professor and person while simultaneously saving his life.
Harry cocked his head to the side, idly eyeing Daryl with a curious gleam in his green eyes. If he didn't know any better, he'd say Daryl was having second thoughts or… "If it's too soon for you, we can do this another day."
Daryl immediately shook his head, "Ain't that," he murmured, leaning a little into the small caresses that Harry offered up at the back of his neck. It was surprisingly grounding.
"You don't have to do this for me, Daryl, if I had wanted them there…I would have asked." Harry said, arching a brow with a smirk, "And I would have likely got my way."
Daryl narrowed his eyes, huffing a little before acknowledging it was likely the truth.
Harry laughed softly, "Just us and Luna." Fingers absently massaging Daryl's neck. He was a mass of muscle, strong, gorgeous and most of all he didn't care about his magic or who he was. "I didn't think I'd ever be lucky enough to find someone like you." He confessed, barely a murmur. Go figure it would be the end of the world when he did so.
Daryl stiffened, clearly uncomfortable.
Harry pressed his fingers to Daryl's lips, giving him an incandescent smile, shaking his head fondly. "I don't need to hear it, Daryl." His partner showed it in everything he did, it was unlikely Daryl would ever be used to saying a lot of endearments. It wasn't that he didn't feel them, he just wasn't big on talking and the thought of spilling his thoughts made him extremely uncomfortable.
"I'm glad you came," Daryl forced out.
Harry laughed, "Give over! You thought I was an illusion," he teased, nudging him with his shoulder, which naturally did nothing. Daryl was much stronger than him. So, he may as well have been shouldering a rock for all he moved.
"Thought it was an illusion even after," Daryl gruffly told him, raising his hand, dislodging Harry's to scratch at his head and then down his beard. "I always believed in the supernatural, but not like that." Believed in everything, even the Chupacabra, but real wand waving magic? Something he could see, touch embrace not just you know, believe. Would have thought his brother had slipped him something.
Harry grinned, "I know," there had been an awed disbelief shining in Daryl's otherwise impassive features. He'd been intrigued pretty much from the beginning. Merle had taken some getting used to but he liked the fact he was treated pretty much normal. Or normal for Merle and Daryl anyway.
Daryl snorted and rolled his eyes.
"How long is s…" Daryl paused hearing the distinctive sound of a 'pop' which sounded more like a car backfiring than any 'pop' really.
It took about a minute before the sound of padding feet caught their ears. Then Anubis rounded the trees and bolted right for them. Tail wagging to the point of aggressiveness, and it even made Daryl wince a little when that tail smacked against his knee with rapid whacks. Anubis didn't even attempt to jump on them, he had been trained better than that.
Harry cooed at Anubis, telling him he was a good boy and that he'd missed him. Petting at him, as he wiggled about unable to be still.
"Must have used a Portkey," Harry said absently, scratching his back end, it was Anubis' favourite spot. "It's risky business Apparating with an animal." They couldn't risk them shifting at the last second. Animals didn't understand how dangerous it was, so it was prohibited. Luna would never risk it regardless, she loved animals.
"You've done it." Daryl pointed out, then again, they were no longer living in a society that could enforce their bans.
"Only when I had to…and I didn't know at the time," Harry pointed out, it was only later that Luna told him.
Daryl groaned barely audibly but it was enough for Harry to hear.
Harry followed Daryl's line of sight, and grinned, surprised. He shouldn't be, Merle wouldn't let Luna go anywhere on her own, even if it was inside P.A. Everyone had been taught not to take it for granted, to always check and make sure. Especially since they all knew each other could turn if something happens. You heard about it every day, people suddenly dying, and it wasn't always murder. It was a safety precaution that Harry had enforced.
Luna and Merle adhered to it too. Just as well as Harry and Daryl. Just like the rest of the resident that call P.A home.
"Really? That's alone?" Harry said wryly, as he smoothly stood up, still petting at Anubis' head absently.
Luna and Merle continued to approach them, entirely unbothered by his quip. If anything, Luna had a small innocent smile on her face. It basically said 'who me?' but her blue eyes gleamed with merriment.
"He missed you," Luna said innocently enough.
"Who? Merle or Anubis?" Harry asked.
Daryl snorted, glancing away trying to stop himself laughing at the look on his brothers' face. He didn't think anyone had been able to wind his brother up so expertly in years. The Merelina comment was still priceless to him. Nothing would ever beat it. Serves him right for all the 'Darylina' comments over the year.
"Is everything alright?" Luna asked, having been looking around, finding nothing that could have caused alarm. With Harry, one never really knew what you were walking into. Take the dragon incident for example.
"We're hoping you'd officiate our bonding," Harry said bluntly, he wasn't going to gush about it all romantically. He was getting to marry the man he loved, that was romantic enough. The world was a different place, but he didn't think he'd have ever been the squealing romantic, 'I'm getting married kind' of person.
Luna however, was, and she gave an enormous squeal of delight.
Merle winced, "Bloody hell woman, I need my hearing for the next few decades," wiggling his pinkie finger in his ear. The ringing making his voice sound lower than it actually was.
"Calm down," Harry said, more amused than anything by Luna's reaction. "Will you, do it?"
Luna calmed immediately upon hearing that, taking mock offence, "Of course, I will." How could Harry think for a second that she'd turn around and say no? Even if she did, they only needed a witness, not someone to officiate it, you could do the bonding as an officiator and a recipient you couldn't stand in as a witness to yourself.
"Bonding?" Merle asked, he wasn't quite as enthusiastic as Daryl about reading and learning more about the magical world. He knew a lot, don't get him wrong, he just hoarded everything they actually told him instead of reading it in a book. He knew how to read; he just couldn't be bothered with it all. "Like married?"
"Bonding is truly until death do us part, we won't ever divorce," Harry explained bluntly to Merle. "Our bonding will allow some feelings to transfer to one another." He'd have magic in him making him a squib, magical but unable to use active magic.
"Which bond?" Luna asked, utterly enthralled by the fact Harry was getting married.
"Anima Vinculum," Harry told her, watching and waiting for the reaction.
"Are you sure you want to do that?" Luna asked, wide eyed and alarmed. Raising her hand against both Daryl and Merle, even though Daryl hadn't said anything. Merle however, had opened his mouth ready to raise hell on his brother's behalf. Aware that he wouldn't say anything himself.
Daryl didn't like confrontation, he and Daryl would knock heads, but this was a different kind.
"It's nothing against either of you," Luna promised, worrying still. "Anima Vinculum is a soul bonding…if one passes away…the other will follow. The only exception is if the other partner is pregnant…but the second the child is born they'd re-join their partner in the other world." Believing wholeheartedly in reincarnation.
"So, if one dies the other will be pushing up daises?" Merle muttered, feeling exactly as Luna was, very bloody apprehensive.
"A little vulgarly put, but yes," Harry said, squeezing Daryl's hand in silent comfort. "Before you say anything Merle, just think of how you feel about Luna, and if you can honestly say you would be able to live in a world without her and be happy then we'll consider a different bond."
Merle grumbled incoherently, he said nothing to refute Harry's statement. His dark brown eyes gleamed of a deep-seated understanding. He understood, he got it, Luna was his everything, his beautiful light and calm in his dark and sadistic world. Glancing between Harry and Daryl with acceptance.
Luna had her teeth clenched together, to stop herself from visibly reacting to the admission by omission. The Dixons were never going to be the romantic type, they tried though, which meant more than anything else. Merle was far more open than Daryl though at the end of the day.
Luna pointed her wand at Harry and Daryl, a look of determination on her face.
"Don't even think about it," Harry declared, giving her a 'what for' look.
"But you can't want to bond like…" Luna begun eyeing them.
"Like we always do? Luna society isn't how anyone remembers it. There will be no reception, no celebrations, no honeymoon. We're going to bond and that will be that." Harry said, putting his foot down and keeping it down. "There won't even be a picture, it doesn't matter, it's just us and quite frankly…if everything had been normal, I would have preferred it this way." Too many chances that the press would find out and his nuptials were spread across the newspapers for everyone to criticise and gossip about.
"And people thought I was the odd one," Luna said teasingly, only Harry would want his wedding of all things to be so low key. She understood though, and wasn't going to give him hell for it, even if she did want to put them in suits. Pictures or not, pensives existed.
When the twins were older, she was going to show them everything they asked for. Every kid wanted to see their parents young.
She couldn't wait until they were here, to hold them, to watch them grow up.
She couldn't help but also be a little envious.
Harry's news made her desire one of her own.
"Luna," Harry said in amused exasperation, as hundreds of globes of lights were levitated into the air. Far as they were up, they almost looked like the tapered candles that were used in Hogwarts. That single simple spell showed just how powerful Luna was, and the demeanour that powerhouse hid.
Due to the bullying she'd had to endure at Hogwarts…he still didn't know how she remained as pure and light as Bellatrix was damaged and dark. She could have ended up bitter but he was glad she hadn't and he was glad he'd been there to stop it.
"At least let me have a little fun," Luna replied, giving him a small smile, showcasing that she was just teasing.
"How long does it take?" Merle questioned, grunting a little as he shifted on his other foot. He'd hurt his leg the other day, moved wrong, he didn't do things like that too often.
"Four minutes give or take." Harry told him, "It doesn't take long when you take out all the unnecessary elements to it. Usually someone seeped in magic would be preferable."
"I think the Fidelius Charm counts, don't you?" Luna pointed out; this place was saturated in magic.
"I guess, but it's not as old as Diagon Alley and all the sideroads around America housing magical alleys." Harry conceded, "Or the schools."
"I wonder what kind of jewellery you'll get," she wondered, eyes alight with wonder.
"Jewellery?" Merle frowned; he didn't get it. "Ain't they supposed to wear rings?"
"They could get rings, but the magic gives each couple that bond different things." Luna said enthusiastically. "Rings, necklaces I even heard of one couple getting anklets. They worked with their hands, one was a potions master and the other was a blacksmith."
"How long ago was that?" Merle asked, he didn't doubt they had those jobs. A lot of people probably assumed nobody were blacksmiths anymore, that it was an old job that was no longer around. Foolish people, usually those who had money to buy what they like with no thought of what went into accomplishing it.
"The book was published in 1972 and they spoke of it in the sentence of weeks." Luna said, "So, around 1972, it was between two male heirs, the only heirs of the family, and they had to pick one name to continue."
The men just glanced at each other amused, only Harry thought it was little wonder she had been sorted into Ravenclaw. Although, it did make Harry miss Hermione…and then he realized if she didn't get to see it…she'd bloody kill him.
Luckily for Harry, he still carried that mirror everywhere with him.
"What is it?"
"What are you looking for?"
"Can't do it without Mione, I value my life, alright?" Harry muttered, his tone almost petulant, like he didn't want to but felt he had to. He wasn't as close to Hermione as he used to be, but he still loved her, still wanted her to be part of his life. She was a…sister to him.
Once the mirror was in his hand, he levitated it up and made it bigger, "There that will have to do."
"Harry? What's going on? Is everything okay?" Hermione asked, her tone very quiet, which was unusual.
"I'm fine, Daryl and I are bonding, I'd like you to be a witness," Harry said simply, "Merle and Luna are here, Luna is going to officiate it for us."
"Bonding?" Hermione said perking up a wide smile on her face, "Are you for real?"
"I am," Harry replied, "Now we can't be gone for too long, otherwise everyone will panic, especially with everyone in our group being away." Especially with it being unscheduled, they were expecting him and Daryl back, they weren't expecting Luna and Merle to go AWOL.
"Alright, but later we need to have a proper chat! I'll pop over when I can, we're so close to a cure." Hermione said nearly vibrating with the news.
Harry, Merle, Daryl and Luna barely reacted; it wasn't because they didn't believe in it. No, if anyone could do it, it would be Hermione and Severus Snape. Their intelligence made them the brightest of their generations. Severus more so due to becoming the youngest Potions Master.
Hermione had other aspirations that went unrealised, being Muggleborn didn't offer her many doors already open for her. She had to work her way up, and before anyone knew it, the world was ended.
"Ready?" Luna asked when Harry stood shoulder to shoulder with Daryl, who to no surprise, had remained silent.
"We are," Harry confirmed, vaguely hearing Severus asking Hermione who it was.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today for the joining of two souls together as one." Luna murmured, her voice soft and melodic. "Our couple have chosen the Anima Vinculum bond tying them together even in death."
Hermione gasped in the background, before her speech was muffled, Severus was whispering into her ear very urgently.
Luna stood suddenly draped in gorgeous green robes flowing over her other clothes, since she was standing in as the officiant she could do as she pleased.
The sound of music beginning to play causing Harry to roll his eyes. A small amused smirk working its way onto his face. The harp was playing, his memories of harps were rather…ahem, different than to taste in music. No, when he heard harps, he thought of three headed dogs and Philosopher stones.
Luna materialised cords and ribbons in her hands, before passing some to Merle, much to the man's confusion, bonding was also a handfasting ceremony. Wizards were pagans after all, and they didn't adhere to Christian weddings.
Daryl moved automatically when Harry did, so in sync with his soon to be bonded. Facing one another, entirely forgetting that Hermione, Luna and Merle were even there.
"I love you, and only you. Take my hand and hold on tight. Take my hand and I'll do my best to make everything right." Harry said slowly, low and intimately, meant for Daryl's ears only. "Today I say, "I do" but to me that means, "I will". I will take your hand and stand by your side in all the good times and the bad. I dedicate myself to your happiness, and strive to make you smile. I will stand by you and love you forever."
Daryl narrowed his eyes, they said they ain't doing vows, this sounded like vows to him. "I promise to keep you warm and comfortable in the cold, and shoulder to lean on when leading is too much to bear. I vow to always protect you from harm, to stand with you against your troubles and to look to you when I need protection. I promise to be your navigator, best friend, and husband. I promise to honour, love, and cherish you through all our life's adventures. Wherever we go, we'll go together."
"Today we're gathered here today for the joining in Handfasting Harry and Daryl…Dixon-Potter," Luna, said stepping forward, "As this knot is tied, so are your lives," as she wrapped the first cord around their hands and wrists with deftness that only came with practice or having done it before. "Woven into this cord, imbued into its very fibres, are all the hopes of your friends and family, and of yourselves, for your new life together. With the fashioning of this knot do I tie all the desires, dreams, love, and happiness wished here in this place to your lives forever."
Merle clumsily followed Luna's actions, wrapping the cord around his brother and Harry. Echoing her words, unaware he was supposed to have said his own. "Woven into this cord, imbued into its fibres, are all the hopes of your friends and family, and yourselves, for your life together. With the fashioning of this knot do I tie your desires, dreams, love, and happiness wished here in this place to your lives forever."
"May this cord draw your hands together in love, never to be used in anger. May the vows you have spoken never grow bitter in your mouths. As joining the hands, you're bound as one, eternally joined, may your life be long and happy." Luna finished the shortest handfasting in history. When Harry said it was only going to take a few minutes apparently, he meant it.
"Ligamus animas nostras sicut unum!" with that Luna's magic zoomed into them, before she reached up and quickly murmured something to Merle, before drawing back. Sealing the bond they had chosen to them.
"Welcome to the Dixon family," Merle grumbled. "Blessed be!" sounding anything but, but that was Merle for you. He wasn't exactly the most emotive of people, he rarely showed his emotions to anyone even his own brother. He was doing his best with Luna though, and he liked to think he was doing well.
Harry swallowed the lump in his throat, "Thank you," he managed to choke out. It was all he'd ever wanted, to be part of a family, to be wanted.
"Allow me to introduce you to Harry and Daryl Dixon-Potter, you are now husband and husband, you may kiss." Luna said, finishing it with a squeal, the binds were glowing, bright and beautiful, just waiting for the official sealing of the deal. Someone had to be excited, even Hermione and Severus were watching it rather quiet and thoughtfully.
Harry kissed Daryl softly, chastely, but it was enough to seal the deal so to speak. The bonds that had been wound tightly around their hand and arm began to glow golden yellow. Daryl winced, expecting pain, but none followed. The ribbons and cords merely disappeared, as if they'd gone into their skin.
Just as that happened, metal enclosed around their wedding ring fingers. Gold 18 caret Celtic wedding bands intricately designed.
Hermione gasped, "It's Celtic design, that only happens when Lady Magic gives her approval, it's only happened a few times in history."
"Last recorded time was Merlin himself," Luna finished, awed, peering at the ring on Harry's finger, the Celtic design was really very lovely. "Can we not have a small celebration?" she asked, giving Harry a puppy dog look, which had long ago ceased working.
"Nope," Harry declared immediately.
"Please, come on, it's not every day you get married." Luna said, "Everyone will want to give you their best wishes. It's really rather rude not to."
Daryl's fingers clenched tightly in Harry's, the thought of it was too much to bear for someone like Daryl.
"You can celebrate yourselves, but don't expect us to be there for more than five minutes…" Harry conceded, "You know we're not comfortable in groups. Just give us that much, Luna, please."
Merle put his hands on Luna's shoulders, "Better take that offer, ma brother is gonna bolt if you try to ask for more." Knowing his brother well, even that few minutes was going to be difficult, so all he could do was reel Luna in.
Luna hummed, "Likely true," she conceded, "Alright, five minutes." If not for Merle she would have been hopping on the spot.
"Does that include everyone from Hogwarts?" Hermione asked, by everyone she meant everyone they knew.
"Why the hell not?" Harry shrugged; it wasn't like they were going to be there for it. "Good job we've still got all this camping gear."
Daryl fully relaxed against Harry, silently agreeing with him.
"One extra day to ourselves?" Harry glanced up at Daryl, "Do a spot of hunting?"
Daryl grunted and nodded, pleased with that one, he loved hunting, and loved hunting with Harry even more so. Unfortunately, they didn't often get the chance to hunt the way they used to before the rest of the group evaded their Quarry camp set up. His hand unconsciously seeking out Harry's stomach where their twins were. He'd endure anything and everything the world threw at him as long as he had his mate with him.
A/N – does anyone else get slower at writing when it's really hot? 22 degrees without wind is just awful 😊 You'd think we'd learn and buy ourselves a fan, but to use it only for maybe one month out of the year seems pointless 😊 so all we do is complain LOL soooo there we go! That's them bonded! Do you want to see Luna and Merle going through something similar? How long after Harry and Daryl have the twins do you guys want this continued? I did promise to see it through the pregnancy and not just have it mentioned in the epilogue so yeah, I'm doing that just wondered what else you want to see 😊 R&R please
