A/N- First off, I just wanted to give a huge thank you for encouraging reviews. I can't wait to give you more of this story. I wanted to make this as researched as possible, yet still fun and entertaining to read. I'm about five hundred words into the next chapter so please be patient with me.
" We have been close friends for over ten years."
"Were in a club together. That's a roster list." He added pointing at the list.
"Club?" Olivia questioned him further. She didn't want to push him too hard. It was a delicate situation. To have a friendship for over a decade and have that stolen away was unimaginable.
Olivia hadn't suffered from that.
Elliot left. It was different.
In order to begin to solve this case finding out his involvement to the witness would be important.
Rafael sighed. Of course, she had wanted more information. She wasn't an idiot. People don't get killed part of the Micky Mouse Clubhouse. God the things she must be guessing right now. Floating between DnD to crocheting club. How could he put this in a conventional way?
"A BDSM club." There he said it. Flat out on the table.
"First you have to understand that this can't get out. Having a District Attorney for Special Victims in the scene. It will be like the Salem Witch Trials. What we do is completely legal." Rafael interrupted before she even could say anything.
The rest of the world didn't understand. With in in such a sensitive position especially in the department he represented, any rumors could sink not only his career but his character. The news media frenzy with the front paper reading of "Court Attorney Bondage Predator. No One Is Safe."
"Oh." Was all she was able to say. It wasn't the first time that Olivia had heard or the so called "scene" or "circuit". It did surprise her that she had never known. They had worked together for a few months. She just figured that it was the divide between the blue and suits. Not everyone in a department had to be best friends. There were plenty of times that the precinct had done their own thing without them. He rarely spent after cases with them. Of course it wasn't expected but with some of their other ADA's like Alex and Casey, they kind of build up their own little family.
"Anna kept all the party lists, meeting and memberships." Rafael continued while trying to read her reactions. This was a total situation of TMI.
"Meetings?" Olivia asked. Now she was more curious.
"Sergeant Benson. I assure you that we aren't just a group of people in gimp costumes beating each other in a massive orgy." He said with his usual sarcasm.
Olivia's jaw almost hit the floor after his last sentence. She didn't expect the bluntness. Yes. The media had the presumption that it was a dark and dangerous group. While working in special victims, most of the myths had been disproved. It was still a taboo subject, but it started to become more normalized.
"No, I didn't mean that. I just didn't think it was so organized." The biggest backpedaling job she had to do. She just would have never guessed. He hid it extremely well. She tried to hide her face from blushing, but practically sitting a mere foot away was not giving the concealment.
"Safe. Sane. Consensual. That's the motto." Rafael said with a common phrase mostly put out by most. Yeah, it did is sound a little hokey but three key rules to make sure everything could be fun for everyone. He first was his usual sarcastic self, but it soon melted away mid-sentence, the situation of the conversation weighing on him.
"Is there anyone who would want to hurt Anna?"
"No, she is. I mean was well liked. It's so strange saying that." Not even ten minutes ago he was told that she had died, and he was here cracking a sarcastic response. He didn't want Sergeant Benson to see him break, to fall apart.
"When was the last time you spoke to her?" Olivia attempting to steer the conversation to not sit in silence.
"Last Tuesday, on the phone. We talked about the next event coming up." It was a brief phone call, of course not realizing that it would be the last.
"Anyone one banned from these events?" Olivia followed up.
"A few over the years, usually for unsafe play but no one recently." Rafael tried to process any reason that one of their own would do this, especially to her.
Olivia's phone vibrated in her pocket. She briefly looked at it. It was Fin. They had some news at the precinct.
"That's Fin. I'm gonna head back to the precinct. Do you need anything?" She began to stand up. She could see that he wouldn't be up for any deeper questions. Hell, she had learned so much in the last thirty minutes about him than the few months they had worked together.
"No. I'm fine." He lied. Standing up and leading her to the doorway.
"Well. Call or text, even if you just want to talk or something." She didn't want to overstep herself or badger him, but she wanted to let him know that she was here for him. He had her number. Hopefully they could close this case as quick as possible to save him the suffering.
"Will do." He couldn't muster up the will to smile.
"Okay." Olivia paused after the first word in acknowledgement of her offer. She turned to handle of the door.
With a last look to him she let the door close behind her.
As soon as the door closed Rafael was free to feel what he wanted. No expectations. No observers. Just him and his thoughts. An that was a dangerous thing.
A/N - Thank you again.
