"Your Majesty, Princess Romelle and Sven are ready. Do you wish for me to bring them to you?" Coran asks through the vid com. He's in his best suit, wanting to look the full part of his position.
"Let us meet in the rec room. The guys should be ready as well, so we can decide how to present them in a way that won't shock as much as when we arrived," I reply.
Coran nods. "I shall fetch them myself, and then come for you."
"No need to come for us, Coran, we'll meet you there," Keith says as he steps up behind me, into view of Coran.
Coran hesitates, but nods. "See you in a quarter-hour."
Keith and I turn after the com link closes and I smile when I see him in the uniform my father once wore. He looks every bit a prince/king/warrior. I cannot imagine anyone else by my side. Somehow, some part of me has always known it would be him. Ever since the day he knelt before me on the staircase in the ruins of the former castle of lions. I feel his hand touch my shoulder and I look up to see his brow furrowed in concern and I can't help but smile. "I'm fine. Just remembering when we met. How different things are. We should put our diadems on. Then I will take the ones from Pollux with us." I walk to the dressing room and use my palm to open the safe box that contains our crowns and the one from Pollux. Keith waits as I pass his to him and take mine and place it on my head before retrieving the box. I tun, box in hand to see Keith setting his crown upon his head. His movement shows his hesitancy, but he smiles when I reach up and straighten it. "It's easier if you put it on whilst looking in the mirror, Keith."
He smiles briefly, before looking pensive. 'I just can't believe the person I see is me. I am still so...shocked that I was chosen.'
'I am glad you're my chosen mate. My bond mate. I cannot imagine trusting anyone else the way I trust you.'
He leans down and places the lightest kiss on my lips before holding his arm out to me. 'Shall we go get this over with?'
'Yes. I am hoping we can get set up to have Romelle and Sven take charge of Pollux operations so that we can focus on our people. We will help rebuild, of course. I don't mean to abandon them. But I want people to know She is their ruler, their sovereign.'
'I feel that with all they have done, so long as we accept them, they will be accepted. Most know that Sven has been helping behind the scenes for years.'
We take the lift down four floors to the floor with the rec room. Coran is waiting as the door opens.
"I was just about to come to check on you," he says as we turn towards the hallway leading to our destination. He holds out his hands and Keith hands him the box with the Polluxian crown. "I'll keep this until time," he says as we enter the rec room and everyone turns in our direction.
"Good Morning," I say, smiling when I see Sven in a dress version of his old Voltron uniform. A captain's hat, rather than a helmet. Romelle is in a flowing blue gown with silver seams on the edges.
Coran steps out to see if everyone has gathered for the meeting and I walk over to Romelle and greet her with a short embrace. Keith slaps Sven on the shoulder, a brotherly gesture I've seen him use with Lance. This seems to ease some tension from Sven's face. The rest of the force come over and look at us expectantly. "We shall name you the heirs of Pollux as our main order of business once we begin."
"I just hope my presence doesn't throw them off," Sven says a small smirk on his face.
Keith laughs, "Let them try and say something. I feel that even the Ancients would accept you, Sven. You have given everything to protect Pollux. If the Garrison tries to call you AWOL, I will step in."
"As will I," I say. The others all give a firm nod of agreement.
"Thank you. All of you," Sven says quietly.
Coran returns and gives us a nod. "Let's go do this," he says. "The people are waiting. We will be sending the teams to begin the task of mass graves, identification, and establishing infrastructure. All of you will work from here-" Keith starts to speak, but Coran cuts him off. "Until we have a suitable place to make a new Capitol."
Keith nods, accepting the stipulation.
We fall into step and take the lift down in pairs, when we're all down the corridor from the assembly, Coran and Lance move ahead to announce our arrival.
We step in just after we're announced, followed closely by Romelle and Sven. A few murmurs of conversation were heard until Sven and Romelle came to the front beside us, then the room fell silent.
'Greetings, allies of Arus and Pollux. Today we bring some good news after many days of bad," I begin my voice carrying over the crowd
. "Princess Romelle has made it safely to Arus."
Cheers erupt and I let them savour the moment for a minute before signaling for quiet once more.
"As blood relative to King Bandor, she is now heir to the throne of Pollux. Romelle has chosen the man to rule with her. He has been by her side for years, putting himself after her own well-being. I know it was rumoured they were together in secret because he was a commoner, but without him, Romelle would not be here and it is at her request he becomes her official consort. I feel they will have the best interest of the people at heart, putting them before themselves, so as Queen of Arus, after speaking to my husband and Prime Minister we are formally crowning Romelle of Heracles Queen of Pollux and her Warrior Consort Sven Castor her lifemate. Sven and Romelle both kneel before Keith and me. I take the crown from the box Coran has opened for me and place it atop Romelle's head. Keith unsheaths his Sword and does to Sven, what my father did to him, knighting him. "Do you both swear to place the people of Pollux before yourselves. Stay true to the alliance between Pollux and Arus. My allies are yours, yours are mine. We share the burden of ruling our worlds always doing what's best for the people first."
"I will," they both reply without hesitation.
"Then rise Queen Romell and Warrior Knight, Sven of Pollux. Long may you rule!"
Cheers erupt and I look over the crowd to see most celebrating. Knowing that their world will rebuild. Then I catch the faces of a few of the people from Terra and the Garrison and I swallow hard. They look confused and a bit angry.
'Let them get over their shock. It's a lot to take in,' Keith says through our bond. 'Most truly believed him dead. To see him alive and mostly well has to be a big shock. Let's disperse those leaving for Pollux and we'll deal with the ones staying behind.'
'Fair enough.'
Keith signals for quiet and cheers and conversations seem to die down fairly quickly. "Those teams scheduled for Pollux, please report to your assigned hangar for departure. Those remaining behind, report to your designated station and sign in for your task. If you're one whose shift begins later, get some rest you'll need it. I know a few Garrison officers have questions, we will meet with you once everyone has left for their stations. Dismissed."
A/N: I know it's a long time coming. It's a bit of a dry chapter, but I hope to get back in the action quickly. Comments appreciated.
