Rias Gremory had seen many things, some exceptional while some downright awful but never had she seen a person as interesting and mysterious as the girl who had just entered the premises of their school.
As she watched her from afar, her identity hidden behind a pane of glass, she couldn't help but scowl when she remembered one important piece of information about the girl.
'She lives with Naruto.'
Her lips formed an adorable pout. "So she is the one huh? His oh-so beloved sister!" She mused to herself, following the girl's every step with her keen eyes. Truth be told, she wanted to see what was so special about the girl that made Naruto take her in. 'I mean, she must have a powerful sacred gear or something. Otherwise, why would a lady as powerful as Layla let her join her family?' As reasonable as they were sounding, Rias didn't give much attention to her thoughts as there was still a very good chance of it being an act of kindness, something that Naruto and his mother were very famous for.
"Yes, Master. She is that girl who is fucking the living daylights out of Naruto."
Rias almost jumped away in surprise when Akeno, her beloved queen, appeared beside her and began to whisper in her ears. "W-what?" She stuttered, her face a little red due to the indecent words that she had just heard. " Jeez, Akeno! Can't you think about something else other than sex for a second? She is his sister!" Her attempt to belittle her queen failed miserably as instead of being ashamed, Akeno began to laugh loudly and mashed her breasts on her back to annoy her even more.
"I was joking, Rias."
She wasn't, Rias could tell that easily but still, she didn't argue with her on that. There were far more important things waiting for her on the other side of the window. "Hmm… She looks like a normal girl to me." Her eyes analyzed the brown-haired girl's body for the last time before it shifted back to her face where a smile was blazing brilliantly.
Akeno followed the course of her friend's gaze and smiled when her eyes noticed the girl standing alone on the entrance door. "She has huge breasts though. Almost as big as yours." Akeno was so focused on the girl that she didn't notice the glare her friend was giving her or maybe she was deliberately ignoring her in an attempt to stop an argument from evolving. "Also, she is normal, but that's according to our standards. For the human population, I'm sure she will be regarded as yet another angel of our school."
Akeno wasn't blind. She could see that the girl was beautiful, far more beautiful than an average human girl, and that would bring her a lot of attention, too much if you asked her. She had seen how lustful humans could be, and there was no denying that they would go after her too. 'Maybe that's why Naruto likes her. No! What are you even thinking of, Akeno?! She is his sister! Naruto wouldn't think of her like that!' Her musings were cut short when Rias grabbed her hand. Confused, she looked at her and noticed that she was pointing at something.
"Huh?" She looked in the direction where her friend was pointing and had to hold back herself from smiling when she saw a nervous Naruto standing behind the wall of their school. Akeno could tell he was there to see the girl from the look on his face, which made her smile even more. "Aww… He's so cute. Just look at him, hiding behind a wall so that his sister can't see him. He really cares about her a lot." Her lips formed a beautiful curvature when she saw him smile at the girl.
Rias, who was staring at her queen in worry, gulped as she saw her devour the image of the boy with her hungry eyes. "Staring at him intensely won't make him magically appear in front of you, Akeno. You can stop looking at him now. Gosh, You do realize that you look no different from a creepy pervert right?" She tried to tell her but Akeno didn't bother listening and continued to stare at the boy, who was still hiding behind the wall like an experienced thief. "Fine, do whatever you want." A sigh escaped her lips as she looked away from Akeno and began to stare at the boy herself. 'Cute…' Now that she looked at him, she couldn't help but notice he was looking rather cute today.
'Maybe it's because of the worried expression he has on his face.' She tried to convince herself, but deep inside she knew he had always appeared cute to her, at least since that day when he had called her beautiful in front of Sōna during their chess match.
"Both of you are stupid horny teenagers."
Rias was yet again surprised when another member of her peerage appeared in the room out of nowhere. "Koneko…" She didn't waste any time in greeting the girl who was looking at them as if they were some sort of low-life creatures, wasting precious space on the Earth. "When did you come here? Weren't you supposed to be with Kiba at my house right now?" She immediately bombarded her with utterly useless questions to divert her attention from the fact that she along with her best friend were shamelessly ogling Naruto a while ago.
From the look Koneko had on her face, she didn't seem like she was going to let that slide off. "First, tell me why were you both ogling Naruto senpai like that?" Her little lips formed an almost invisible smirk when her leader began to utter nonsense from her mouth. It was cute, but she wasn't going to say that loud.
"Ara Ara, Buchou. I didn't know you have a crush on Naruto too." Akeno's teasing laughs only worsened the situation for Rias as the poor girl hid her face behind her hands to evade further embarrassment. It was funny how even after being a beautiful and haughty young beauty, her friend always seemed to turn into shy and secluded whenever the topic of Naruto is mentioned. Then again, she wasn't that good either when it came to Naruto.
'Ahh… the beauty of teenage crush.'
The Himejima girl giggled again, this time to herself as she began to imagine a delightful future with the blond boy. 'I want to live beside a beach where I can always wear a bikini and fuck him whenever I want to.' Another set of sultry laughs escaped from her lips but before she could dwell deeper into her 'dreams', her mind was hauled back to its senses by none other than her best friend.
"I don't have a crush on him, Akeno. I'm his friend." A sliver of annoyance flickered on Rias' face as she tried to argue with her Queen, who at the moment, was glaring at her for disturbing her in her 'dreams'. "Yes, just his friend." She wasn't lying. As far as she could remember, she had always wanted to be his friend, that's all. There was nothing more to that, at least for now, there wasn't. She couldn't say the same for the future because the future could be unpredictable sometimes.
Akeno's smirk vanished from her lips as she saw the honest look on Rias' face. 'She isn't lying.' She was both relieved and sad by it. Relieved, because it meant she would have less competition for Naruto, and sad because then there would be no fun in that. What was the point of being with Naruto if Rias wouldn't be there with them? She was her best friend, and Akeno wanted to do everything along with her. "I see…" Her voice dropped to a low whisper before going back to its usual teasing tone.
"That girl has a sacred gear, a very strong one if I'm correct."
All it took Koneko were a few words to change the whole atmosphere of the room. Her leader, who was previously arguing with her queen, became silent as soon as Koneko uttered those words. Now she had their undivided attention.
"Really?" Rias spoke first, her voice barely hiding the surprise that was bubbling inside her due to the newly learned information. If what Koneko was saying was true then she finally had a chance against that monster.
"Hmm."
A small smile bloomed on Rias' lips. "Then we need to get her in our team." That was the first thought that came to her mind but vanished immediately when she realized just what she was spewing. 'Naruto…' He was not going to like that, not at all. He and his mother were a strong opposer of the evil pieces and she was sure they would kill her if they found out that she was trying to get their family member to join her peerage.
"He will not like that. You know of Naruto's opinions on the evil piece system and having a peerage system."
It seems like her queen was having the same thoughts too. "I know," Rias whispered, a little disappointed with herself for being so stupid. There was no way she would be able to get that girl in her team with Naruto following her every step. "He is very serious about her safety." Moving her head a little, she looked outside the window again and saw that the boy was still standing there, probably waiting for the girl to enter the school's hallway.
"Yes." Akeno soon joined her master and began to stare at the boy. "She is his sister, after all." Although she didn't know much about Naruto's personal life as he tends to keep it private from them, she still knew enough to understand that the boy loved his family dearly.
'Creak…'
Both the girls turned at the sound of the door, only to notice that Koneko had left the room.
"She probably went home to meet her Kiba senpai." Forgetting the subject of the sacred gear for a second, Akeno giggled to herself as she recalled just how much Koneko adored their junior blondie. If she didn't know better, Akeno would have thought that Koneko was already falling for the boy. 'She will though…' Her lips curved upwards and formed a haughty smirk, one that didn't go well with Rias who was watching her silently from her side.
"Seriously, Akeno. You are hopeless." The red-haired Princess groaned in displeasure. Here, she was trying to think of a way to get that girl on her team while her queen, one who should be helping her in her mission, was busy thinking about some random lewd scenario in her mind.
"Aww… Don't be sad, Rias. I'm sure you will find someone just like our little Koneko did."
Rias' eyes twitched at the obvious jab aimed at her love life but refrained from making any comment on that as it would have only aggravated the situation more. "I'm sure I will but right now, I need to find a way to get that girl in our team before Sōna tries something." It was only an accident that she remembered about her friend Sōna while thinking about the girl, but now that she did, she couldn't help but be afraid of her.
That smart devil was for sure going to make a move on the girl. How did she know that? 'Because unlike me Sōna knows Naruto very well and will be able to convince and calm him down if the situation turns awry.' It was a sad realization but it was true.Sōna was a very close friend of Naruto and Rias knew that very well.
"Are you sure you want to proceed with this despite knowing what Naruto will think of it?"
Akeno had a complicated gaze on her face. She knew that this plan would surely worsen the relationship they had with Naruto. For better or worse, proceeding with the plan was no different from spitting on his face.
Rias bit her lip at the question posed by her longtime companion. However, her mind was made up, "We have no choice." Akeno turned stern at the response given by Rias. "No, we do have a choice. We could just simply let her go and never speak of this matter again."
Rias sighed. She knew that what she wanted to do was not exactly the most glamorous idea she had, but it was necessary. "We need all the help we can. Letting her go is not an option and you know it. We'll just need to apologize to Naruto later on. Knowing him, he would probably accept the apology." Akeno looked at her friend with a conflicted look on her face. Disappointment filled her being at her very core and all of it was directed towards Rias.
"That would only make you look like a hypocrite."
Rias glared at her friend. "Do you think I don't know that? I know that bringing her in wouldn't seal my victory, but it would increase my chances. I would rather be branded as a hypocrite over being Riser Phenex's prized doll."
Akeno finally turned serious as she realized how important the whole thing was for her friend. Rias wanted to win against that boy Riser and for that, she needed a very powerful friend. " "Sōna will probably try to befriend her first before making a move on her. If we are to bring her in, then we need to be the ones that do so before her."
Rias scoffed at Akeno's statement. "It's not that easy, Akeno."
"I know, but I'm sure we will be able to do it."
"How are you so sure about that?"
"I don't know."
"Oof!"
-Outside The School-
"Nice."
Naruto smiled to himself as he saw Makoto disappear into the shadows of the hallways. At first, he was a little worried about her as she had never been anywhere without him by her side, but after seeing her enter the school with that bright smile on her face, he was more than pleased with himself. Now, the only thing he needed to do was wait for her until school got over so that he could go pick her up before going back to their house together.
"It will be easy, I just have to wait here for a few hours." He whispered, smiling to himself for doing such a great job at preparing her for her first day. It was tedious work but in the end, it was all worth it. 'I hope she can make a lot of friends here.' His happy thoughts came to an abrupt halt when a melodious voice brought him out of his stupor.
"Excuse me…"
Naruto wasted no time in turning around. "Yes-" Words vanished from his mouth as soon as his eyes fell upon the face of the stranger which was concealed behind beautiful white tresses. It was beautiful, so beautiful that for a few seconds, he didn't even notice what was happening around him.
-A Few Hours Later-
Naruto was right.
He wasn't making stuff up when he said that the school was filled with interesting and dumb people at the same time.
On one hand, they had people like Sona and Tsubaki who could rival any genius of their age without breaking a sweat, and on another, the school was filled with countless perverts in the form of junior girls who wanted nothing but a glimpse of their senior's assets.
"Why did he send me here? I was happy with him in our old school…"
She could only sign in disappointment as she watched her classmates argue over the beauty and hotness of the girls of their school, especially of two very familiar-sounding people.
'Rias and Akeno.'
From what she had heard from her classmates till now, they were a year ahead of her in terms of academics, a fact that made her very happy when she first heard it from her class head's mouth. 'At least I'm safe from them this way.' Makoto wasn't a rude person, neither did she like to ignore people but the case of those two girls was different. They were ignorant and arrogant if Naruto's words were to be believed.
She is so delusional that she formed a whole cult around the concept of her being a descendant of devils. Even her friends fell for their stupid intuitions.'
A shudder ran up the spine of Makoto as a horrifying image began to form inside her mind, an image in which Akeno was worshiping Satan alongside Rias and her friends. "I need to stay away from them because I don't think I'll be able to handle another group filled with odd people." She whispered to herself and turned her head towards her classmates again.
"Pss…"
Makoto's ears perked up when a strange sound entered their passage. It was a senior student, she could already tell that without even looking.
"Pst"
No, two seniors, she thought as another surge of warm sound entered her ear canal. 'What do they want?' Sighing to herself, she drifted her eyes over to her right and saw two familiar faces there. "Y-you… who are you?" She gulped loudly, trying her best not to disturb the class in the process.
When the first girl, one with the most beautiful looking face she had ever seen, smiled at her, Makoto visibly froze at her place for a second but composed herself quickly before anyone could notice.
"My name is Rias Gremory, Makoto-san."
Makoto began to shake on her seat as soon as the girl uttered her name to her. 'Rias…' Here she was. The one and only Rias Gremory, a girl that she wanted to stay away from at any cost. 'Luck is not on my side today.' She thought to herself because the only person she wanted to ignore appeared in front of her out of nowhere.
To ignore the inevitable conversation, Makoto once again turned towards her classmates, only to gulp loudly when she saw that the whole class was looking at her with wide eyes. 'What have I gotten myself into?' She could only think in dismay because the glares her classmates were passing on to her were cold and mean. It was like they were killing her through their eyes.
"Your classmates love you."
Makoto blinked in surprise when the other girl, one with jet black hair and breasts that could rival her aunt's, finally made herself known as she scooted a little close to her. Every inch she closed between them, the anxiety inside Makoto's mind doubled. "I-I don't think so, Akeno-senpai." Her eyes lit up with confusion when the black-haired senior smiled at her.
"You know my name already? Aww… I didn't know I'm this famous."
"Naruto told me about you," Makoto answered immediately and had to hold back herself from gasping when the girl began to giggle uncharacteristically.
"Naruto…?"
Makoto nodded her head in positive. "Yes. He talks a lot about you and Rias-senpai." Before she could even add anything more to her answer, the red-haired beauty jumped into the conversation out of nowhere and coughed at her, something that managed to divert the attention to her.
"Naruto… What does he say about us?"
For the first time in her life, Makoto was left with no option but to lie. The looks the girls had on their faces were full of curiosity and innocence. She could tell that they respected Naruto very much and she didn't want to hurt their feelings by telling them the truth. "H-He…" She tried to say something but for a good amount of time, nothing dared to come out of her mouth. After taking a few short breaths she tried again.
"He talks a lot about your hair, Rias-senpai."
Rias, who was standing idly till now, wobbled under the pressure of the unexpected compliment. "M-my hair?" She stuttered, surprise evident in her voice as there was no reason for Naruto to talk about her and her hair. 'He would never compliment me, unless… he has a fetish for girls with red hair.' She closed the passage of her thoughts before they could turn any darker.
"Yes. He really likes them."
That did it for Rias. Before anyone could say anything more, her face turned scarlet, almost rivaling the color of her beautiful tresses. "I-I see." Still, she kept her cool, at least on the outside she did. On the inside, it was a whole different story.
"What about me? What does Naruto say about me?" A hopeless whisper sliced through the awkward silence, making both the girls look at Akeno who was patiently waiting for her turn to receive compliments.
"Uhh…" Makoto paused and smiled at the black-haired girl a little. Why? Because, unlike Rias's case, Naruto had actually complimented Akeno during their talk before the first day of her school. He had called her… "The most beautiful girl in the whole school." The smile on her face got bigger when Akeno looked away from her. 'She is so innocent…' Completely oblivious to the devil that was hiding behind that beautiful face of Akeno, Makoto began to laugh at her for being so shy. 'She is so much like me…' She thought, still unaware of how wrong she was.
Rias, who was watching the whole thing from the sidelines, scowled a little at the way her friend was acting in front of the girl. They were here to lure her in, not get lured by her charms and innocence instead. "Ahem…" She coughed lightly at them and was pleased when both the girls looked at her immediately. "Akeno, aren't you forgetting something?" She asked her queen, only to sulk in annoyance shortly when she began to look at her like a lost puppy. "Friendship…" She whispered to her and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw a look of realization dissipate over Akeno's face.
"Ahh yes…" Akeno gasped and began to laugh at herself for forgetting such an important part of their plan. Seriously, she needed to control herself more. She can't be acting like a fool whenever the topic of that boy is mentioned. " Makoto-san, did you make any friends today?" She turned towards the girl and asked her.
"No…"
"Ahh…"
Makoto had seen many dangerous looks in her life but the look Rias and Akeno were giving her were otherworldly. They were looking at her like she was a reward that they needed to achieve at any cost. Like they were the predators, and she was their next meal. In short, she didn't like how they were looking at her. Now she understood what Naruto was talking about. These two are really odd.
"You can be our friends then…"
It finally happened. What Naruto told her was absolutely right. He was a brilliant fortune teller. She needed to reward him but first, she needed to save herself.
"I don't-"
Unfortunately for Makoto, she was given no choice as Akeno practically began to drag her to somewhere unknown.
'Naruto…'
-Club Room-
Naruto was absolutely right.
Makoto was finding herself saying this sentence pretty often. Still, it didn't change the fact that he was though.
These girls were trouble carved in human form. No, they were worse than that. They were delusional cultists who knew nothing about the real world and were still living in an illusion where a being named Satan existed.
"Rias-senpai, where are we?" Makoto couldn't help but ask the girl who was grinning like crazy at her. If she didn't know better, she would say she was roasting her alive with her eyes and was ready to devour her at any given moment.
"This…" Oblivious to the turmoil that was raging inside her junior's mind, Rias pointed towards her room and puffed her chest out in pride. "Is our small little cabin where we research supernatural stuff like ghosts and devils."
Every word that Rias spoke made Makoto even more uncomfortable. Something was wrong with these two, she could feel it inside. They were not normal, not at all. "I-I see. But aren't devils and ghosts just a myth? I mean no one has ever seen them." She tried to argue with her, in hope that she could bring them back to normality but all her attempts were proven to be futile when the two of them began to laugh at her, hysteria resonating in their giggles.
"Ohh dear Makoto, you are so naive and cute!" It was Akeno who spoke this time.
"Naive…" Makoto's face slumped a little at the ironic jab. 'You are the one who is naive and delusional, Akeno-senpai…' A part of her mind wanted her to yell it loudly at the girl for calling her naive but the rational part of her mind stopped her before she could do that. Arguing with people like these was useless. They have already fallen deep into the black hole that was the eighth grade syndrome and there was nothing she could do to bring them back.
The best she could do was say sorry to them for what people had done to their minds. The constant hunger for attention and acknowledgment must have messed up their circuits. Otherwise, there was no reason for them to choose a path as foolish as they were currently traveling on. So with a sad look on her face, she glanced at the girls and closed her eyes.
"I'm sorry, Rias and Akeno-senpai. There is nothing I can do to save you two now. You both have already traversed way beyond the boundaries of salvation."
A tear fell out of her eyes as she spoke those words with utmost sadness and regret. No one deserved what these two were going through. Society has failed them.
"Huh?" It was Rias who first managed to get out of the shock and decided to show her confusion to the girl. 'What is she talking about?' Her mind was working faster than the light to deduce what was going inside the mind of the girl sitting in front of her. She was behaving a little odd for some reason.
"I said I'm sorry, Rias-senpai. We the people of this society have clearly failed to save you both. We drove you both to the state of insanity that you are currently in."
A deafening silence claimed the room as all three girls proceeded to stare at each other, one with remorse and regret while the other two with confusion and shock.
"M-Makoto, what are you talking about, sweetie?" Akeno soon joined her friend in her quest to learn the reason behind Makoto's odd behavior. It was unsettling and remarkable at the same time.
Her shock only enhanced when Makoto lowered her head and began to sob silently. "I-I know what you two are going through. I have been b-been there, Akeno-senpai. It's lonely and suffocating there, isn't it?" Wiping the tears off her face, Makoto looked at her seniors and smiled at them. "The constant hunger for attention and futile attempts for being unique so that someone would acknowledge you is horrible isn't it? I know it because I used to do the same too." She whispered, remembering the days of the past where loneliness and silence were her only friend.
"Makoto, you're scaring us. Please tell me, what's going on?" Rias asked the girl, only to gasp in surprise when she answered her question.
"Scaring you? It's you two who are scaring me, Rias-senpai."
Rias looked like someone had just slapped her hard right on the cheek and she couldn't do anything about it. "Us? What have we done?" Her mind began to scour through the potential reason behind that explanation but found none. They had done nothing that could and should scare the girl. Hell, they have been very kind and helpful towards her the whole time.
"You believe in devils and ghosts, Rias-senpai."
Both the devils went numb after hearing the statement. It was unexpected and their feeble, untrained minds were not ready for something like that. How can a girl who was living with two powerful devils not know about their existence?. It was stupid, preposterous in fact! So much so that for a second they thought Makoto was joking, but a simple glance at her face told them otherwise.
"You don't know that devils exist?" Rias uttered that question so silently that she was sure no one would have heard it. She was still shocked by what she had just heard.
"How would I? They aren't real."
Makoto's simple answer managed to do something that no one had ever managed to do to Rias. It sparked a flame of respect for another individual, that individual being the ultimate devil that was Naruto. He had surpassed them, all of them. He had no competition now.
When they were young and innocent, Rias used to think Naruto would never be able to become a decent devil because he was half-human and lacked the mind of a devil, but the blond has proven her wrong yet again. This time he had totally crushed the image that she had of him. His cunning mind and sweet voice had no competition among the younger generation. Not even Sōna could compete with him. After all, who among them could fool a girl like that? No one.
"Makoto, they are real."
Rias looked at her friend and sighed. She wanted to stop her and tell her that there was no way she would believe them now.
"We are-"
"I know. I know. You two are devils and have bat wings."
'Wings…' Everything vanished from Rias' mind as soon as she heard that word. 'I'm so stupid!' Here she had the perfect rebuttal to Makoto's argument and she was worrying about nothing. "Exactly Makoto! We have wings. The people you are living with have them too."
"Really?"
Rias and Akeno smiled at each other smugly. They were about to destroy this girl's whole career and they couldn't be more excited about it because it indirectly meant they were going to ruin Naruto's prank too.
'Flicker!'
Shrouded in the beautiful colors of red and white lightning, a pair of jet-black wings sprouted out of their backs.
"Now-" Before Rias could even say anything, she was silenced by Makoto when she decided to hug her abruptly.
"I feel for you, Rias-senpai. But I'm sorry, I can't see you suffer like this. To think that you would actually go as far as to install mechanical bat wings on your back to prove your point…"
"M-mechanical-"
"-b-bat wings?"
Rias and Akeno were astounded with what they were hearing, as they both completed the other's sentences. Their eyes were wide open in shock and surprise. Rias wanted to correct her, "W-wait-'' But she wasn't given the opportunity as Makoto continued her speech.
"How much money did it cost you to even make it?.. No, that doesn't matter anymore. Don't worry, senpais. I'm sure you two will one day realize the truth, and I'll be there to help you in every step of the way. But right now, I need some time to process what I've seen… so please excuse me."
With that, Makoto withdrew her hands from Rias' back and began to walk towards the exit.
"Wait-"
'Creak…'
The deafening silence returned and claimed the room again.
"A-Akeno…"
"Shhh…I don't even wanna know. Let me just... contemplate my existence, thank you."
