A/N I will update a step too far very soon! Here is the next one shot in the series.

The Chosen Path: Ron

Ron sighed gently as he stood out on the balcony that overlooked an overgrown field full of grass and weeds. Ever since they had arrived in Godric's Hollow, the trio had hardly spoken to each other. It was hard to know what to say to Harry and Ron was never good with words anyway. As for Hermione…well he had screwed that up on an epic scale.

Ron sighed again as he ran his hand through his mane of red hair.

Every story has a brave and gallant hero, who gets the girl and saves the day, but that hero definitely would never be Ron Weasley. He certainly wasn't brave or gallant and he didn't think he would ever get the girl.

Sometimes it was a hard life being, what could only be described as a sidekick. Living in the shadow of the boy who lived was something that burdened Ron more than he let on. Not that it was Harry's fault, he would gladly fight with him to the end, but sometimes, only sometimes, he wishes that his the best friend didn't have the lightning bolt scar or the darkest wizard in the world, who also happened to be a raving loony, after him.

Leaning his elbows on the railing as he clasped his hands together he watched the sun set in the distance, the sky was golden with the last few rays of sunshine.

How many more of these will we get to see?

He had now begun to realise how precious time was, as there was a large chance that they didn't have much of it left. There was still so much that he wanted to do, and helping to defeat a dark, psychotic wizard was definitely not on his top ten things that he wanted to do before he died…

But it might just be one last thing that he does do…

He knew that it all had come down to this, he would never let Harry down, but part of him just wishes from time to time that it didn't have to be here, that he wasn't terrified that these days may be his last. The thought that terrified him the most was that he wouldn't be strong enough to protect them…strong enough to protect Hermione, she was much smarter than he was, he paled in comparison.

Straightening up Ron decided it was time to get a grip on himself and to think of happier things…he thought of Hermione and her smile…he thought of what he felt about her…he thought of what he wanted to tell her.

Of what he had been too scared to tell her for a long time now…

But hell! If this was going to be the last days of his life he would be damned if he died without telling her and if she didn't feel the same way…well he would just hope that they killed him quickly.

Taking a deep breath he strolled back into the dark room and bumped straight into a dishevelled Hermione, her eyes widened as he reached out to steady her…

Ron smiled at her gently.

Well no time like the present…

A/N Please review, this is the first time I've done a series of one-shots and any tips would help!
