Playing Hard to Get

By: emeraldoni

Disclaimer: No, I don't own Naruto.

Everything Sasuke did had a purpose. Every action, every detail was planned, down to the last blink of an eye or haphazard breath. With each step he took, he knew what would happen, and he prided himself on his knowledge of foresight. He looked down on fools, like Naruto, who couldn't very well plan their next meal, much less formulate detailed steps for a mass of other people like Sasuke could.

Sasuke smirked at the blond Kyuubi container as he ranted, "You are such a bastard! Why the hell do all those girls even like you?"

Shadowed eyes hovered over an impassive face with barely concealed mirth, "Because I'm not an idiot."

Naruto screamed, practically tearing out his hair, then pointing out an accusatory finger, "Screw you, Sasuke! You wait, I'll show you! I bet I can get more girls to like me than you! Meet me here at sundown, and the winner gets a free bowl of ramen!"

Everything Sasuke did had a purpose.

"Whatever, idiot."

Oooo000OOO000oooO

"Sasuke-kun! Sasuke-kun!"

Sasuke ignored the familiar voice as he walked down the crowded street. He didn't acknowledge the person until they grasped his forearm.

"Sasuke-kun!"

Sakura grinned up at him, eye alight with joy at finally seeing the boy who was the object of her affection. Sasuke just let his expression fall into one of easy annoyance.

"Are you doing anything tonight? Maybe we could go out!"

"No."

Sakura's expression fell, her hands slowly falling away from his arm, "Oh, okay, sorry, never mind."

The girl was about to turn away when Sasuke reached out to grip her delicate fingers, at the same moment softening his facial muscles just a tad. Sakura lit up once more, completely hooked, "Well, that's okay, maybe another time."

Eyes widening as she looked over his shoulder, "Hey, what's Naruto doing?"

Following her gaze, Sasuke's lips twitched as Naruto threaded his way through the crowd at a high speed, a mussed up bouquet of flowers snuggled into his arms.

Sasuke shrugged as Sakura muttered, "Idiot," under her breath.

Everything Sasuke did had a purpose.

He remained expressionless as Sakura glared at a girl who had come to close.

Oooo000OOO000oooO

Sasuke approached the slumped figure resting against a trunk, shadows overlaying their bodies as the sun set in a vivid splash of reds and purples and golds.

Naruto looked up, fatigue blatant in his eyes as the smirking figure of Sasuke stared down at him. The blond just growled as he gently fingered his red, puffy, and slightly bruised, cheeks.

"Fuck you, Sasuke."

"Hn."

"They just like you because their stupid. Like you."

"Hm."

Naruto let out another frustrated shout, "Dammit!"

Sasuke just shrugged, turning to walk away, not before casting the final bowl over his shoulder though, "Don't forget you owe me a bowl of ramen." He really did live for moments like this.

Because everything Sasuke did had a purpose, and that included playing hard to get.

"Dammit, how do you do it?"

"Figure it out, loser."

Oooo000OOO000oooO

A/N: This just came out of nowhere. Sorry, I just had to write it, a little drabble thing. A sad attempt at humor, I guess. It took me about fifteen minutes, so sorry if it isn't up to your standards or anything, either.

Ah, well.

Until next time…
