Chapter 3:

Jack walked through the gate on Abydos, to his luck no one was there pointing a gun at him. He then continued his walk until he reached the village. The kids were playing ball and the adults were talking amongst each other. They saw Jack and ran to him in greeting.

Skaara walked up to him and said: "O'Neill, it is good to see you.". Jack hugged the young man. "It sure is Skaara, it sure is.". But the Abydosian could sense something wasn't in place. "What's wrong?" he asked. Jack sighed. "I am retired. I can't live on a planet where she is on, I was hoping I could stay here.". Skaara looked at the old Colonel. "Of course, you are welcome here anytime. We will set up a tent for you.".

Jack was relieved he had a new place to call home.

(Eleven months later.)

Jack woke up to the sound of laughter. Getting up from the uncomfortable rug he called a bed he got dressed, his regular black shirt, BDU pants and boots, with a robe to protect him from the sun. He had breakfast with the locals, played ball with the kids, chatted and laughed with Skaara, and went to take his daily tasks.

He went to the watering hole where those things considered as cattle were kept. There was a little vegetation so the animals could eat. But he has been for the past three months, been more down then ever, it was only a matter of time before he cracks.

Meanwhile, in the pyramid, the gate activated and the watch got into position, as the final chevron locked, the first to walk through was Sam Carter. Then Daniel, then Teal'c. Daniel walked up to everyone and said: "Shé'haré!".

One of the boys then made a run for the village to spread the word. In the village, when Skaara heard of the news, he made a run for the pyramid. When he arrived, he was relieved. "Daniel, Carter, Teal'c. Thank you for coming, it's O'Neill, he has been suffering of heart break for many moons now.". Sam was right on it. "Where is he?".

Jack was now directing the herd back to the village, when he arrived he saw Skaara walking up to him with a group of faces he wished to never see again. He sucked it up and walked up to them. "Daniel, Teal'c… … Carter." He said her name a little rudely.

'Well, guess I expected that.' She told herself.

Jack then directed the herd back to the camp and locked the wooden fence. Wiping his hands on his clothes he walked past his old team, dumped his head in a barrel of water, and started crafting nails. Sam walked up to him and said: "Sir, we need to talk.".

"Do we?" he retorted. He went back to hammering. Sam kept trying to get his attention, but every time she opens her mouth, his hammer hits the nail. So, she took drastic action, she took her water bottle, and dumped the liquid over the hot coals.

The steam sizzled and Jack turned his attention to Sam. "Well that was very mature.". But Sam wasn't listening to him. "We need to talk.". But Jack only snorted. "I heard you the first time. So, talk.". Sam then took a deep breath and begun. "Those messages eleven months ago, those weren't me, they were from Pete.".

Jack on the other hand, didn't believe her. "Yeah right. Like I believe that.". He was about to leave when Sam grabbed his wrist, Jack spun around to see tears in her beautiful sapphire eyes. "Jack, please." She begged. Jack finally clicked. She was being honest with him. He stood there; he didn't know what to say. Too many things were processing in his mind. "S-Sam, I- I am sorry.".

They hugged each other and stood there. Sam took this moment of contact to take in the sent she longed for. His unique sense that will always ensure her safety. Jack whispered in her ear. "I am sorry Sam. I am sorry.". Sam held onto him, fingers curled into his clothing, securing him. "I forgive you Jack. I forgive you.".

Daniel then in the background leaped and cheered. Teal'c was shedding tears. Which is very rare.

Jack knew he has to go home, it was time. Packing, Skaara walked up to him. "O'Neill, I hope to be at your wedding.". Jack nods at the Abydosian. "Of course, Skaara.". He walked out with his things, Sam walking next to him, then purposely falling behind him, she smirked at herself, licking her lips, staring deep at Colonel Jack O'Neill's six. Jack knew this, but didn't bother.

At the gate, Daniel was about to dial, but the gate spun to life. The team got to position. Jack grabbed his 9 mil. The wormhole established and a Goa'uld walked through, it was Anubis. Jack stood there, he was outgunned and outnumbered. But he wasn't going down without a fight.

"O'Neill, the perfect specimen." The half ascended Goa'uld said. Jack sneered. "Not gonna ask." He fired a shot and got one of the Jaffa. But he got hit by a zat and was knocked out, Sam then jumped out and fired, but the zat hit her too. Daniel and Teal'c jumped the enemy but the zats hit them too.
