Chapter 12:
As Jack got up, his eyes glowed and Ares took control. "Well, that was fun, but I am tired, so I will take a nap. O'Neill will be independent of me for a few hours.". Jack took over and sighs. "Back in control, feels good.".
Thor beamed them up in order to offer them a ride home. As that happened, Sa'har was eager to learn more of the Asgard technology, something Thor was happy to share. As that happened, Ro'tak and Teal'c went to kelnoreem. Daniel was off reading some of the ancient artefacts that Thor found on the way.
That left Jack and Sam alone. They were talking of their plans after Ares found himself a willing host. Sam mostly spoke of how much she wants to kill Pete. Jack agreed on that subject, he wanted to break that guy's legs and then list him as a wanted terrorist.
Sam was more focused on hitting him on the more sensitive parts. Jack choked on his laughter. "No need to go there. It's not like he tried any weird shit with you while I was gone… … SON OF A-" he snapped. Sam was confused. "What is it?". Jack growls lightly. "Shanahan's the spy. That's why he wanted me gone. Kinsey hired the shit bag to chase me off. Because the only thing standing between Kinsey and the entire SGC was me.". Sam thought on it. "The bastard! He used me!". Jack then said: "Looks like we both want to kick him in the balls now.".
As they sat there, Sam fell lightly asleep, her head rested on his shoulder. Jack smiled at this moment, so he got comfortable and fell asleep as well.
A few hours later Daniel, Teal'c and Thor were watching in awe at the sight. Sam was curled up completely against Jack while he had both arms around Sam's middle. Teal'c held his hand out. "I believe you owe fifty dollars.". Daniel paid but he was glad he lost.
Sam stirred which woke Jack. Both opened their eyes and got startled at who was watching them. They then turned to each other and saw how they were positioned, they moved and sat across each other completely embarrassed.
Thor tilted his head as he made a joke: "Is this regular behaviour for you two?". Jack and Sam didn't know how to respond to that. Earth was in orbit, to be honest, Sam wasn't ready to leave, she finally kissed Jack, but she wanted more. In the back of her mind, she can picture a family with him, twin boy and girl running around at the park, Sam and Jack sitting on a blanket and watching them.
But her thoughts were interrupted when Jack took her hand into his. "Sam, I can't go back." He said sadly. Sam turned to face him. "Why?" she asked. Jack then said: "Ares still needs a host, and his people need a leader, Anubis still has followers out there, and I intend to stop them, Sam I need you to trust me, I'll come back when this war is done." He promised.
Sam sniffed and looks him in the eye, a tear was visible on her cheek. Jack wiped it off with his thumb, kissed her on the cheek and hugged her. Jack whispered in her ear. "I love you Sam, and that will never change.". Sam sniffed again as she hugged him back. "I love you too Jack. And I always will.". When they separated, Sam looks at him again. "Keep him safe Ares.".
Jack's eyes glowed as his voice changed. "I will.".
Sam, Daniel and Teal'c were beamed down into Hammond's office. He looked up and looks at his team to see Colonel O'Neill wasn't among them. "The colonel?" he asked. Sam then explained to him that Jack voluntarily stayed behind in order to keep fighting against those who followed Anubis and until Ares has a host. Hammond sighed at this information. "How long until he is back?".
But… on a planet where the Stargate was buried in rouble, a black like shadow emerged from the dust. Floating up into the air as it reclaimed its form, a man with no face, only a mere shadow, going on it's knees it screamed into the heavens, swearing revenge.
