Tyler: *takes a sip of stew* Aaaaannnd it's done! Thanks for the help, Josh.
Josh: No problem, Ty.
Tyler: And thank you for the fire, Autumn. *pats Autumn's head*
Autumn: *blushes* Y-you're welcome.
BM: And what about me?
Tyler: *raises eyebrow* And what exactly did you do, Bruh?
BM: You wouldn't be enjoying that stew without my help, ya know. Welcome back everyone to Roadtrip! First things first, I'm very sorry for not uploading last week. I was just simply too tired and wanted to take a short break from writing. Sorry to anyone who was waiting patiently for it!
BM: Now, the previous chapter was pretty hectic, eh? Well I think it's time for some cooling down, don't you think? As usual, definitions will be listed below. Enough of all this, let's get right to it! *begins eating stew*
BM: This is pretty good, what's in it?
Tyler: Shrimp and seafood.
BM: *sputters* (I'm allergic to shrimps)
Disc lame-r: As usual. No brands are mine.
Tyler blew and blew over the top of his mug of hot chocolate before taking a tentative sip, sighing in satisfaction with the temperature of the soothing liquid. Lucas, Amanda and Vince filled them in on what happened, the same done by Tyler and the others. After that day's activities, everyone decided that it was best they take it easy for the rest of the day and the day after.
Jewel and Autumn were conversing with each other as they watched a movie on the TV. Ava and Epsilon were watching the movie as well and were pretty happy to get out of their balls, though did make sure to scold Tyler for not letting them out sooner as soon as they had found out the room was big enough for them. Noir was trying her best to defeat Calamity Ganon and the creature they had rescued looked around in confusion. Tyler noticed and lightly facepalmed as he totally forgot what he was going to do.
Damn, nice going, Ty….
Tyler grabbed his phone from the nightstand and gestured over to the creature. The creature turned his head and looked at Tyler curiously.
"What. Item?" He asked as he got trotted over to Tyler. Tyler smiled and held out his phone towards the creature.
"This is a phone. It helps me do many things, including this." Tyler said before flicking the phone to face the creature, scanning him. The creature was taken slightly aback as he had no idea what was happening. As the scan results displayed themselves on the screen, it was now Tyler's turn to look confused.
Species: ERROR
Trainer: Tyler Whiting
Battle Level: ERROR
Ability: Battle Armor
Learned Moves: ERROR
"What in the... " Tyler said as he stood up straight in his seat, his sudden action attracting the others attention. Jewel and Autumn looked away from their movie with a synchronized head tilt.
"What's wrong, Tyler?" Jewel asked curiously as she leapt off the bed. Or she would have if she hadn't tripped over the Fox Pokemon beside her, resulting in both of them faceplanting the carpet with a 'poomfh'. Autumn looked at Jewel with an annoyed frown which Jewel could only reply with a sheepish smile. Ava and Epsilon trundled over to him and Noir placed Tyler's Switch down before making her way to him as well.
"Well, this." Tyler said as he showed them his phone. Everyone looked at it in confusion as they had never seen such an odd stats screen. The creature however was unfazed.
"Wrong?" He asked unassumingly. Tyler nodded in confirmation while pointing at his phone.
"Yeah, says here that you're an unrecognized species. Not only that, your battle level and your moves are also unrecognized. This never happened before…" Tyler muttered while rubbing his forehead in attempt to make sense of the situation. The creature looked at him in confusion.
"Actually, now that I think about it…. I've never really got your name. I mean… you have one, right?" Tyler asked as he turned off his phone and placed it on the nearby table, finally giving up. The creature nodded his head.
"Type. Null." He replied curtly. Jewel decided to chime in.
"Type Null? That's a funny name, how'd you get it?" Jewel asked before being slapped at the back of her head lightly by Noir. The Fairy type shot a glare at the Zoroark who shook her head disapprovingly.
"What a rude question. That is not a humorous name, it's clear that it was chosen without love and care." Noir replied with a slight frown. Jewel rolled her eyes and rubbed the back of her head, mumbling something about not being able to take a joke.
"They. Give." Type Null replied. Tyler looked at him in understanding as he shuffled a bit in his seat in order to be more comfortable. What Type Null said next cracked his heart.
"Must. Listen." Type Null said with almost no hint of emotion. The tiny bit of emotion present leaned towards either resentment or sadness, though it was hard to determine in context. Tyler clutched his chin a bit and leaned forward.
"No, you don't. You're with us now." Tyler said softly as he gazed deep into the eyes of Type Null. For a split second, he noticed a hint of emotion that quickly dissipated. Type Null nodded slowly in understanding. Everyone couldn't help but crack smile. Tyler smiled as he stretched back into his recliner only to be tackled by Jewel who landed somewhat gracefully on his lap. He groaned slightly.
"Tyler, I'm bored! Let's do something!" Jewel demanded with an adorable pout. Tyler chuckled and lightly kissed her which caused the pure Fairy Type to blush. Tyler picked her up and place her on the bed.
"Alright, alright. Anyone have any fun ideas to do?" Tyler asked no one in particular. Each of them adopted a thinking look, except for Type Null of course.
"How about we do some training?" Ava proposed. Tyler shook his head and pointed out the window at the night sky.
"It's pretty late. I think training is best done in the daylight, with us being able to see clearly and all." Tyler reasoned. Next to chime in was Autumn who was lying beside Jewel on the bed.
"Uhm, how about we take a walk in the park?" She asked shyly. Tyler raised an eyebrow and looked at her expectantly, implying that it's a bit too late for that. Autumn quickly got the memo and shook her head. Tyler turned to face the others.
"Anyone else? N-" Just then, Samuel practically kicked down the door and barged into the room. A mischievous smile donned his face.
"I might have an idea." He said as he dangled his car keys. Everyone in the room looked at him like he was an idiot, which was accurate on account of it being pretty late and everyone was very tired. Josh could be seen leaning on the chair outside the room, looking at Samuel with a 'wtf' look.
"Sam, just….no. Anyways, I think we should just relax tonight." Tyler suggested and with a resounding 'yes' from everyone in the room, Samuel promptly exited.
"We're going tomorrow though, aight?" Samuel yelled from behind the closed door. Tyler rolled his eyes and nodded even though Samuel couldn't see it.
"Alright, alright." Tyler replied with a slightly audible 'yes' emanating from behind the door. Tyler turned to the others while jutting a thumb towards the TV inside their room.
"How about we watch something?" He suggested. The various positive reactions proved enough for a conclusion. With a pleased smile, Tyler grabbed the remote and pointed it at the TV.
…
A crippling silence filled the room, not even the desk dared to squeak under the weight placed atop them. Mercifully, the dead air's presence was short lived as thunder echoed outside, a flash of lightning adding to the room's illumination, which was scarce. And then, it happened.
A fist planted on the desk, rattling it as a dull thud echoed. Drops of sweat dripped from a forehead, soaking into the blue bowl cut of its terrified source. A pair of piercing eyes gazed deep into the grunt's, it's intensity akin to that of a laser.
"What do you mean?" Cyrus asked bitterly, scrunching open palm into a fist as he pounded the desk yet again, practically in time with the thunder that boomed outside. The grunt shuffled in his place slightly, teetering on his toes in a futile attempt to calm his nerves.
"Argh, w-well…sir. T-Type Null's….gone sir." The grunt sputtered with a gulp. Cyrus' gaze hadn't let off. Instead, it seemed to grow stronger in time with the storm outside. Silently, he pulled out a Pokeball and placed it roughly on the desk. It was black in appearance and had a yellow pattern on it.
"Do you know what I have here?" Cyrus asked as he gripped the Pokeball in between three fingers, all the while leaning back onto his chair. An offset grin adorned his face, brimming with malicious energy and rage. The grunt's face lifted away from being scared to being confused.
"That's…an Ultra ball." He answered nervously. Cyrus shook his head slowly while leaning forwards, propping himself up with his elbows. Lightning crackled outside as the rain continued to pelt the windows.
"Correct. And what do they do?" Cyrus asked expectantly.
"They…capture Pokemon better than…normal ones, sir." He replied. Cyrus nodded slightly, though his expression switched over to one more serious.
"Exactly. They limit and inhibit what has been captured by it. Their grip on what they captured shatters upon extensive damage. We are the Ultra ball and the world is held within. Do you understand?" Cyrus demanded. The grunt nodded vigorously.
Cyrus gripped the Pokeball tightly before lifting it up and slamming it on the table, smashing the circular capture device on the hard surface. The grunt took a tentative step backwards in shock.
"WITHOUT US, THE WORLD'S FUTURE IS VOID! And do you know what Type Null's escape has done to us? Our goal recedes away from us by every task we fail and I think it has gone long enough. Get. Null. Back. Or do you wish to continue in a world of imperfection?" Cyrus roared angrily while pointing out the door. The grunt began sweating profusely yet again as lightning crackled outside.
"Y-yes, sir!" He muttered quickly before running out of the room. Cyrus watched the grunt scrambled like a headless Combusken out the door before getting up from his desk and walking over to a nearby window. He gazed outside at the dark rain clouds and the distant lightning.
"We mustn't fail. Not again." He muttered as he stepped away from the window, his loud footsteps echoing throughout the empty room. A door slid open and closed shortly thereafter.
…
Sunlight trickled into the suite, bypassing the closed blinds slightly to give off a soft glow. Unlike previously, no alarm clock was required as by now, Tyler had grown accustomed to waking up via the sunlight alone. Though on this particular morning, it wasn't just that.
Ugh, can't breathe!
Tyler placed his hands on the soft mass of fur on his face and rubbed along it. An unusual way to wake up. It's not everyday one wakes up with a Ninetales on their face. Tyler slid her off hastily but gently, trying his best not to wake Autumn up rudely. Upon doing so however, Tyler realized that it had no effect as Autumn looked at him with an annoyed expression.
"Rude…" Autumn said with a small pout. Tyler raised his hands in defeat as Jewel and Noir woke up, the Zoroark jostled by Autumn and Jewel by virtue of not having Tyler to hug.
"You gotta get up, lazybones." Tyler spoke with a chuckle as he picked up the flustered Fire type and moved her over to better spot on the bed. Tyler stood up from the bed and stretched before looking around. Epsilon and Ava decided to make do with the armchair even after Tyler asking them to get into their balls. Type Null's choice was obvious, as indicated by the lack of his presence in the room.
"Aww, do we have to?" Jewel asked dejectedly. Tyler nodded and picked up his towel and went over to the nightstand, grabbing something atop it. Then, he promptly turned around to show the others what it was. A pair of car keys.
"We've got things to do." Tyler said with a smirk.
…
A ribbon of damp asphalt snaked through the forest, a wall of trees on one side and a marshy plain on the other. A tall mountain range could be seen in the distance. Out of the various moving hunks of metal that commuted along the highway, a group stood out as they traveled together.
"So, where are we going?" Josh asked with his eyes glued to the damp highway in front of him as it rained lightly last night. He gripped his alcantara steering wheel fairly tightly as his Porsche was fairly rowdy in less ideal conditions. Ruby was as bored as usual.
"Yeah, where are we heading Ty?" Samuel asked while fiddling with his cruise control settings and others. Helios decided to take advantage of the spacious rear seats and lie on his belly, a content smile on his face.
"Last night, I read about a new hillclimb course near Pastoria. You all heard of that old road that leads from the outskirts of Lake Valor? Damn, what was it called again?" Tyler asked casually as he didn't have to focus as hard as the others. The Subaru's AWD system was plenty equipped for the conditions. This time, Noir was the one sitting in the front passenger seat as she had won a rock-paper-Scizor game that morning, much to Jewel's annoyance and Autumn's amusement. The Dark type looked at him in confusion, unsure if she would like the prospect of a 'hillclimb'.
"Hold on, Road of Valor? That shit's for offroaders, Ty!" Samuel answered with a higher tone. Although Samuel couldn't see it, Tyler still shook his head. Though before he could answer, Vince spoke up instead.
"I think it was recently repaved. Fresh asphalt." Vince replied while he changed lanes, a task that was harder in the heavy Mercedes. Oli and Tesla were talking in the rear seats while Daisy had to be in her ball due to her size.
"Yep. Today's the day, fellas. Let's see who's fastest!" Amanda announced happily with Julius by her side, equally excited.
Tyler smiled a bit and nodded, still not realizing the others couldn't see it. Then, Amanda's Lotus swerved in front of him and began to speed away. Tyler grinned as he gripped his shifter and dropped to third gear, taking advantage of his power band. A bead of sweat dropped from Noir's brow at the sight. In the back seat, Jewel could barely contain her excitement and Autumn had a small but excited small on her face.
"OOOOH, GET HER TYLER!" Jewel squealed excitedly with Autumn kneading her paws in excitement, unusual coming from the shy Fire type. Tyler grinned before speaking into his earpiece.
"Eat my dust." Tyler bragged as he put his foot down, the turbos spooling hard and forcing as much air as possible into the engine. The blue Subaru lurched forward and began to catch the red Lotus, popping flames at each upshift. Not a moment later, the gray Porsche, white BMW and black Mercedes came after them. Thankfully, the traffic in front cleared out which gave them ample opportunity to maximize their cars.
Slowly, Tyler's Subaru crept up on Amanda's Lotus which had maxed out at around 280 kph. As Tyler eventually passed her, he mockingly waved at her through the window. Though, his joy was fairly short lived as he reached his own top speed which was 295 kph. From behind, Samuel's BMW went past him and subsequently, Vince's Mercedes went past that.
"Ehhh, should've know this would happen." Amanda said with a sheepish smile. A round of laughter could be heard in her earpiece. She looked over to Julius who looked over to her. A grin formed on their faces as Amanda decelerated and went down a gear.
Tyler and the others looked back at their rear view mirrors, confused by the sight. Jewel tapped Tyler on the shoulder as she eyed the red sportscar behind them.
"What's she doing? Is she giving up?" Jewel asked unassumingly with a hint of happiness in her voice. Tyler looked back as well, a pleased grin on his face. This bout of happiness quickly vanished.
Amanda reached over and grabbed a small dial located on the center console. This dial was not OEM for this one was fitted by Amanda herself with some much needed help from Julius. It's true that the Lotus still had its original engine, but Amanda had made some adjustments. The turbo that it originally had was replaced by a stronger one, the engine's internals had been rebuilt and she'd programmed a custom ECU map. As a result, Amanda made her Lotus adjustable in terms of power, all controlled by one little dial.
With a quick flick of her wrist, she turned the dial from '350' to '500'. Instantly, the wastegates fully opened, letting in more air than normal. More fuel shot into the pistons, making more power. At this, Amanda stepped down on the throttle.
"What in the-" was all that Tyler could say as the low slung 90's sportscar went by him, going 305 kph. As it went past, Julius formed an L with his hand and stuck his tongue out, much to Tyler, Jewel and Autumn's annoyance. Even Noir looked confused, which was a nicer change of pace compared to being perpetually terrified.
With his jaw sufficiently on the floor, Tyler begrudgingly went on his earpiece again and was greeted by confused noises and strong laughter.
"How in the world?" He asked, still confused. Amanda giggled as she swerved past a few cars.
"You're lookin' at one o' the best mechanics in all 'f Sinnoh, what more is there ta say?" Amanda bragged proudly. Samuel could only 'ooh'.
"Oh shit, she got you good, Ty!" Samuel exclaimed with a chuckle. Helios' laughter could also be heard in the background. Vince snickered as he knew Amanda's party piece. Tyler could only groan in reply, adding to the other's amusement. Though, all it took to pick his spirits up was a glance to the passenger seat beside him. Noir still wasn't all that used to speed and it showed, quite humorously in fact.
Eventually after a somewhat spirited multiple hour drive, the group reached the Valor Lakefront. This was a beautiful location, often seen on travel brochures and postcards from Sinnoh. Luscious trees, the ocean over the horizon, cool mountain air flowing from the North and the lake itself whose water shimmered in the afternoon sun.
Right at the edge of the forest that split the Lake itself with the neighboring plains and the R214 highway, the five familiar cars were parked.
"Holy moly." Tyler muttered as he leaned on the fender of his car. Jewel had a sparkle in her eyes as both her and Noir gazed upon the sight in awe. Ava looked over the at the far away mountains, attracted by the snowy peaks that laid atop them. Epsilon simply enjoyed the cool air.
"Amazing…" Julius muttered as Amanda pat him on his shoulder. According to what Amanda told Tyler, Julius had never been to the Valor Lakefront. This perfectly explained his reaction. Spring on the other hand had been here a few times.
"Much better than I remembered, hot damn." Samuel commented casually as he ventured closer to the edge of the treeline, tucking his hands into his jeans. Helios was eyeing the trees nearby, reminiscing of the forest Samuel found him in.
"Wow, it's been too long…" Helios muttered as he eyed the familiar trees, clearly touched by his reunion with his former home. What he didn't expect was it wasn't just him that was reminiscing.
"Helios, y-you're from here too?" Autumn asked sheepishly, surprising Helios enough which caused him to slip on some mud and tumble down a small incline. Samuel let out a full belly laugh, clutching his stomach before jogging over to the Houndoom who was trying to get up. The others rushed over to check on what was happening.
"What happened?" Tyler asked worriedly as they finally made it over to them. Ruby immediately rushed over and spoke in a rushed and panicked manner, her words unintelligible and disorientating to the muddy Fire / Dark type. Autumn tapped her front paws together nervously.
"I-I'm sorry, I accidentally spooked him and he fell down the hill. S-sorry." The Ninetales explained sheepishly. Tyler sighed and smiled a bit before kneeling down and patting Autumn softly, getting her to blush slightly.
"That's alright, it was an accident. Say, what did you do to spook him anyways?" Tyler inquired curiously.
"W-well, I just told him I was from here and uh, maybe he didn't expect me to say anything." Autumn answered truthfully. Tyler raised his eyebrow in slight confusion.
She's from here?
"Hold on, this was your old home? The place you were born?" Tyler asked with a hint of surprise. Autumn nodded, her guilt replacedwith happiness.
"Yes, I was. Looking at the trees here bring back so many fond memories… This place is just very special to me. I'm sorry for not telling you, though." Autumn explained with a small ear droop at the end. Tyler shook his head and stood up with a smile as he looked through the trees, catching a small glimpse of the lake on the other side.
"That's alright, Autumn. Why don't we head on over to the lake? Everyone up for it?" Tyler asked after he patted Autumn's head again, which resulted in her smiling happily. A decision was quickly made and after Helios got cleaned up, the group got in their cars again and drove down the road which lead to the lake.
That's all for this one! Again, apologies for the new schedule but I feel like it was the best I could do. I don't want to give up on writing, after all. That's just stew-pid, heh. Catch you all in the next one! Bruhmeister, out!
BM: Well, you've got something else for me to eat, right? Something that isn't seafood?
Josh: Urm, well…
BM: *snaps fingers, plate of steak and fries lands on lap* That's better.
Tyler: Oh come on, why don't I have powers like that!?
BM: *mouth full of food* You're the MC.
