Chapter 4

A scruffy man literally appeared out of thin air directly behind Dean causing everyone conscious in the room to jump a good couple of inches. His sudden entrance even scared Yukio out of his calm demeanor.

"What - who is that?!" Yukio stuttered and winced when his landing put weight on his injury.

"Geez Cas, what did I tell you-" Dean started but was quickly interrupted.

"What is that doing here?" Castiel took a few steps back, putting some distance between himself and the dying teen. Instead of his usual look of tame curiosity, Cas' eyes revealed an obvious fear. Sam was even more frightened now. What was this kid that made Cas scared? What could possibly scare an angel?

"Cas," Dean interrupted, "can you help this kid?" Rin's prone form was leaking crimson fluid, soaking the sandpaper carpet in the small room. His face was whiter than a sheet and even while passed out he seemed to need conscious effort to breathe. Cas looked at the Winchesters quizzically.

"You don't know what it is." It wasn't a question.

"You're right. But he is dying," Sam countered. Rin's wounds were obviously infected and some of the holy water was still inside of him, destroying his body from the inside out. Sam looked at the bleeding figure on the floor. "Come on, Cas. He's just a kid."

"Besides, if he's dead we can't question him. His brother was unconscious so he doesn't know how they got here," Dean reasoned. Yukio raised his brows. They hadn't even asked him yet! But he wasn't going to voice that aloud. If they were willing to help his older brother he would gladly keep his mouth shut.

Cas eyed Yukio skeptically before turning back to the floor. "I've never tried healing something like this before. I don't even know if it will work," Cas was still unconvinced he should even bother helping something of this nature. It was too risky.

Suddenly, Cas heard a voice he didn't recognize, "Please." Yukio's voice had changed from calm and unfeeling back to a concerned younger brother. The exorcist pleaded, "He's the only family I have left."

Castiel could only nod, jaw clenched. He bent down next to the prone teen and placed two fingers on his forehead. Cas' eyes flew open, glowing with a blinding white light. Rin's wounds shone just as bright as they miraculously started to stitch themselves closed. Everyone present could only hold their breath in anticipation and awe.

Once the light died down, Rin's eyes flew open and he shot up, struggling to catch his breath. He was still gasping and coughing when Yukio dropped to his side. Castiel's shoulder's fell and his lids started to droop. Dean caught him before he face planted and started to half carry the disheveled angel to the closest chair. Sam remained in his spot, keeping an eye on the teens. When Rin started to calm down, he turned to his younger twin.

"What the hell just happened?" Rin still struggled for air. His question came out breathy but he was no longer hoarse. Yukio waited for his own heart rate to return to normal before answering.

"An angel came when you passed out and healed you before you died," Yukio summarized. Rin could only blink owlishly.

Huh. Maybe he was still groggy and didn't fully understand what Yukio had said. Because there was no way his brother had said an angel came, right? When the silence continued Rin blanched.

Wait, seriously?!

As the gears were slowly turning, Sam kneeled across from the Okumuras. Rin flinched, which Sam noticed with a wince.

"Hey," Sam started off softly, "I know you're kinda out of it but my brother and I do have a few questions. Do you think you can sit on one of the chairs? No tricks this time, so long as you don't try anything either." As unfair as it sounded the kid was still a demon, one that even scared the likes of Castiel.

Rin gave a small nod. He didn't trust Sam and Dean but he really didn't have any other choice. Plus he felt awful and Yukio was still injured which meant he couldn't just grab Yukio and run for it. They were stuck for now.

As Yukio attempted to help Rin up, Dean turned to face the tired Castiel. The angel was thoroughly exhausted, his crumpled clothes accurately reflecting their wearer.

"I didn't realize healing a hell-spawn would require so much energy." His voice was low as he rubbed his eyes with his palms.

"You sensed something about this demon when you came in. I know it scared you. So tell me, what kind of demon is he?" Castiel pinched the bridge of his nose. Dean frowned. Could angels even get headaches?

"More powerful than I expected. Dare I admit, it may even rival Crowley in power. Something tells me that in spite of that it has barely even begun to fully tap into its potential."

Dean shivered. Something potentially stronger than the king of hell? Just who is this kid? Dean looked over just in time to see the kid trying his hardest not to fall sideways out of his seat, looking around the room with half closed eyes. Despite the stained uniform, his mussed-up hair and slouched demeanor made him look like any other ordinary teen. He wasn't even being possessed! How could this kid be so dangerous?

Dean was still wary. The fact that he couldn't get a clear read off the kid just put him even more on edge. What had come over him earlier? Why had he wanted to save the demon's life so badly before? Dean let out an explosive sigh.

And yet, Dean saw how badly Rin wanted to protect Yukio. His brother. A human. There was so much about this kid Dean didn't understand.

This demon was really messing with his head.

'Why can't anything be simple these days?' Dean groaned, running a hand through his hair. He turned back toward Castiel.

"You think you can stick around for a bit?" It was Cas' turn to sigh.

"I don't think I could go anywhere even if I wanted to right now. I drained a lot more of my grace than I originally planned."

As the hunter moved toward the teens he felt a tug at his arm.

"I hope you know what you're doing, Dean."

Dean hoped so too.
