A/N: I'm baaack! Long time no update. It has been one crazy year for me and unfortunately, i have just not been able to find the time to write. So, for that, I am truly sorry. Now, my writing is super rusty so, i'm sure this is not good, but alas, i want to share it with all of you. It's also extremely fluffy and ooc, but I really can't bring myself to care lol.
Prompt: Sheldon and Amy's first dance
2067
Old, nimble fingers brushed overworn photographs. Despite almost all media being digitized nowadays, Amy always preferred the tangible hard copies of memories. Something that couldn't become corrupted or destroyed because of some server somewhere malfunctioning. These pictures that she held dear for nearly fifty years now couldn't be altered.
They presented themselves exactly the way her memory served her. Just like everything else in regards to her husband, the true remaining constant, they were unchanged.
Sure, they were a little worn at the edges, but so was Amy for that matter. The hands she looked down on were the same ones in the photograph, just… older.
Sheldon had done his best to preserve them, but like anything, the test of time took its toll on their wedding album. The colors had dulled, the corners had curved inward, and there were slight tears along the edges from overuse. That didn't make them any less precious to her.
Flipping through the countless pictures from that day was always bittersweet for Amy. Rapidly approaching her nineties, the sting of loss was becoming an all too familiar feeling in her life. Having had said goodbye to many friends over the years, looking back on some of the fondest memories she shared with them always hurt to some degree. Always made her too well aware of the void they left in.
Of course, Amy came to terms with it a long time ago. Her life was filled with joy, smiles that made the coldest of wintery days feel like summer. Especially the curious eyes that watched as Amy flipped through the photo album of her life with Sheldon.
A granddaughter, courtesy of her son. Who had the same bright mind and thirst for knowledge that made her fall in love with her husband all those years ago. It was endearing to see in someone so young.
The young child watched Amy with rapt attention as she explained what was going on in all of the pictures. Curious to learn about all the people in them who she had not the privilege to meet. She took a special interest in the one picture Amy could not explain in words. A candid picture taken by Penny during the reception of a moment her and Sheldon had not thought photographed. One that had been Amy's favorite since the moment her best friend showed it to her.
Just as Amy was about to flip to the following page, hopefully, to not have to explain one of the most tender moments of her life to her youngest grandchild. "MeeMaw, wait, I wanna know what going in this one," her granddaughter said pointing to the photograph nestled carefully in its place on the albums page
"Love," Amy sighed. "That's a very complicated thing for me to do. This was a very special moment between your PopPop and I, I don't know if I could do it justice."
"Can you try?" The child asked her, pleading and inquisitive eyes begging her to tell the tale. The same eye's that Sheldon had. The one's Amy could never say no to.
"Ok," Amy caved. "I'll try to explain it to you." She carefully removed the picture from the page and placed the album on a table next to the couch she and her granddaughter were sat upon. Amy sighed heavily, wondering where she should even begin. How could she even begin to explain this to a six-year-old?
"I've told you about my friend Penny, right?" The young girl nodded. "Well, she took this picture during PopPop and I's wedding reception…"
May 12th, 2018
The Athenaeum had transformed beautifully into a reception space. One long dining table in the very spot in which they had just wed. In front of it scattered the perfect number of smaller tables for their guests to enjoy the upcoming meal. Not that Amy really cared about any of that, she trusted the Penny could take care of any unforeseen oversights that may occur.
The only thing that mattered to her at the moment was the way Sheldon was squeezing her hand in his own. The way the cool metal of his new wedding band felt against her skin sent a shiver down her spine. They were married. After 8 long years.
As it was announced that dinner would be served shortly, Amy turned to her new husband. "Hey," she called to him gently. "I'm going to have Penny help me freshen up a bit before the reception starts."
Sheldon looked her up and down for a moment. "You look perfect already, but if it would make you more comfortable," he said, trailing off at the end.
"It really would," Amy smiled up at him before shooting Penny a pointed look.
Together, she and Penny rushed back to her changing room, at least, as fast as her wedding gown would allow. Sheldon had no idea about her following surprise, and honestly, Amy hoped he wouldn't freak out too much about it.
After long and extensive thought and discussion with her best friends, Amy made the choice to have a *reception dress* alongside the one she wore for the ceremony. After what happened at city hall when she and Sheldon almost got married, the first dance quickly became a priority for Amy. Given how important it seemed to be to her now-husband, she wanted it to be as perfect as possible. And as much as she loved the first dress, she knew it would be too cumbersome to dance in. So, Penny and Bernadette went shopping with her once again for the perfect dress to dance in for the first time with her new husband.
And as Penny helped her change from the old and into the new, Amy was already anxious to see what Sheldon thought.
"Amy, you look stunning in this," Penny told her as she buttoned the last button and smoothed out the back of the dress.
Amy met Penny's eyes in the mirror. There was nothing else she could think to say but, "thank you, Penny."
The other woman squeezed her arm and smiled.
Then the two made it back to the reception space where everyone turned and gasped as they entered. Sheldon, who was already sitting at their dining table, slowly stood as she approached. By the time she made it to him he had already walked around to the front of the table, where they met mere inches apart from each other. The room was silent as they watched the newlyweds.
"You didn't tell me you were going to change," he said in a low voice.
Amy blushed and looked down. "I wanted it to be a surprise," she explained. "The other dress was too hard to move around in, and I know how important the first dance is to you. It's important to me too. I thought a simpler dress would make the experience more enjoyable for the both of us."
"I love you no matter what dress you're wearing," he declared. Now taking her face in his hands, he whispered quietly to her, "you look beautiful."
She blushed at his compliment and looked down at her hands, suddenly becoming all too aware of everyone's eyes on her. Thankfully, the caterers saved her as in that very moment they began delivering meals to the table. As conversations began to bloom around them, Sheldon gingerly took her hand in his and led them to their seats on the other side of the table.
As dinner was served, Amy felt at home with Sheldon to her left and Penny to her right. The rest of their friends were seated as well, filling the room with smiles and laughter. Amy almost couldn't believe this was her life. Thirteen-year-old her would have never guessed that she would find friends as amazing as the ones she had. Or a husband who already treated her like a princess.
The night passed too quickly for her liking, for before she knew it, Leonard was already announcing it was time for their first dance.
Sheldon took her right hand in his left and gently led her to the modest dance floor right in front of their dining table. As the first few notes of their chosen song began to play Sheldon held onto her in a carefully rehearsed pose. Their hands remained interlocked, held slightly to the side of their bodies. Sheldon's free hand came to rest upon the small of her back pulling her closer to him.
The melody of the song began to take wing and gracefully, the pair of them swayed back and forth for the first time as a married couple. Amy smoothed down the back of his head as she tried so desperately to keep her overwhelming emotions at bay. The crowd of people around them seemed to fade away, they were truly in a world of their own. There were no eyes to distract her from the very person in front of her to who she had just vowed her life.
Amy let out a shaky breath and rested her chin upon Sheldon's shoulder.
"Are you ok?" he whispered in her ear. His voice was filled with such concern, such genuine love, Amy finally let the first of her tears fall.
Pulling her head back, she looked her husband directly in the eye, their faces so incredibly close to each other. "I'm ok," Amy reassured him, toying with the small hairs at the nape of his neck. "I'm just overwhelmed by you, too," she quoted his vows from earlier. She knew exactly what he meant by them. "I love you so much, Sheldon."
Sheldon stared at her for less than a beat before he pulled her into the most tender of kisses. Fleeting as it may have been, Amy could not recall a time when he kissed her with such gentle passion. When he drew back from her, Sheldon wasted no time tucking her head under his chin. She held onto him tighter as she recognized the song was drawing to a close.
As the last few notes played and the song ended, somewhere in the distance Amy heard the clapping of their wedding guests. She paid them no mind as Sheldon and she came to a stop. She was so grateful they didn't get married in city hall that day.
Their trance was coming to an end, but she didn't want it to. As the applause continued around them, Amy pulled away ever so slightly from his warm embrace. Bringing Sheldon's forehead down to rest against her own, just for one brief moment, savoring the last of their all-important first dance.
Them standing still on the dancefloor, foreheads touching, eyes closed, lasted for just a second. But it was just enough time for Penny to take one last picture of an amazing moment in Amy's life.

As Amy wrapped up her story, the young girl seated next to her was staring wide-eyed, captivated, at what she was hearing.
"Wow," her granddaughter said after a second of silence. "It sounds like you and PopPop love each other an awful lot!"
Amy gently brushed some of the girl's hair away from her face. "More than I can even begin to express."
"Thank you for telling me your story MeeMaw," said the young girl as she wrapped her little arms carefully around her grandmother.
Just as Amy began to respond, Sheldon and her son walked in through the front door of the house. Her granddaughter, excited to see her father, leaped from the couch and ran over to give him a hug.
"Oof, I'm excited to see you too, pumpkin," Elliot said as he picked up his daughter. "Did you have a good time with your grandma?"
"I had the best time!" the girl exclaimed. "She told me a story from her and PopPop's wedding."
Elliot gave his mother a look. "Did she now?"
Amy huffed in mock annoyance. "Oh calm down, it was just our first dance," Amy said and tried not to roll her eyes when her son sighed in relief.
"Well, that's great, I'm glad you two got to have some quality time together." Elliot glanced at his watch for a brief moment. "Well, I should get going, I'll call you later, Mom."
Slowly but surely, Amy pulled herself off of the couch where Sheldon had joined and moved to say goodbye to her son at the door. "Of course, thank you for accompanying your father to the doctor."
Glancing behind Amy slightly to his worn-out father on the couch, Elliot nodded. "Of course, Mama. Everything went fine, I think he's just worn out."
"I'm sure of it," Amy said. "Now go, I don't want that wife of yours to worry."
Elliot and his daughter said their last farewells and made their way out the door. Amy was standing at the door watching them leave when a voice startled her.
"Our first dance, huh?" Sheldon asked from the couch.
Amy jumped and held a hand to her chest. "Dear lord, Sheldon! I'm old you can't scare me like that anymore!"
Her husband chuckled slightly. "Apologies. But why our first dance? What made her want to hear about that?"
Amy shuffled over to the couch and sat down once more. "That picture that Penny took. I could explain every other picture just fine, but that one always gives me trouble."
"How so?"
"It was such a tender moment between us, Sheldon, even now, almost fifty years later it's still one of my favorite moments with you."
Sheldon reach over and grabbed her hand, gently pulling her to stand with him. Confused, Amy watched him tap at his phone with shaking hands. Just like her own, old and wrinkled, but still ones that she loved. It took him longer than it would have used to, but eventually the soft melody of the song they first danced to wafted through the air.
"Care to dance again?" Sheldon asked her, already beginning the even slower sway of the dance.
Amy didn't even need to respond, she felt like she was herself in 2018 again. Young, vibrant, dancing with her husband. The body protested, but the soul began to soar.
It had been almost fifty years, but to Amy, nothing had changed.
A/N: Fun fact, in the rough draft, Sheldon died :) thought it was better this way though lol.
