Chapter One

Blood-covered field.

The sound of a heartbroken woman screaming as she knelt before the bodies of her comrades, a jewel clasped in her hands that was flickering between pink and black.

"It wasn't supposed to end like this!" Her voice cracked as her cries wouldn't stop. She couldn't breathe. They had done so much and for it to end like this. It wasn't fair. Why...why!

She wanted them to live their lives. They had so much taken away from them. They got their revenge but they died before they could see it. They didn't even know if Naraku was defeated in the end.

Her heart hurt thinking of everyone. How hard they fought. How much they had lost and done to get to this point. For this stupid jewel that looked so innocent but...she hated it. She wished it never existed.

She wished her friends could live a life full of happiness. A life where they could smile freely and have their loved ones beside them. Not worrying about life and death every second of the day. A life filled with loss and bloodshed.

That is the life all of them had started to live because of this cursed jewel.

The jewel in her had shinned and Kagome took a deep breath in as the light engulfed her. The light died down, and Kagome looked at the endless darkness around her.

'You have suffered.'

'You have lost so much.'

Kagome took a deep breath as she stood and looked around, trying to figure out where she was and where the voice came from.

'You gave up a lot so you could find my missing pieces.' The voice supplied as a figure appeared before her. She recognized her. She had seen her petrified self in the cave by the Demon Slayer village.

"Midoriko..." Kagome whispered, chapped lips frowning as she took in the woman in front of her. She didn't look that much older than she was.

"Thank you for collecting all the shards and making me whole again." The woman smiled, it was sad and bitter.

"I couldn't let my mistake hurt people..." Kagome told the older woman, which was true. The jewel shards had taken so many lives and hurt so many people. She shattered it and it would forever be a burden she would carry. She was the reason for all of this happening.

"Even so you could have left and never come back..." The older Miko sighed, "You could have stayed in your time and never looked back..." This was true, Kagome had considered it on more than one occasion, but the thought was quickly pushed into the back of her mind and locked away.

"I would never have been able to live with myself." Kagome honestly answered, her voice cracking as her throat was still raw from crying and screaming.

"That is why I am giving you a choice..." The Miko held her hand out as the Shikon no Tama flew out of Kagome's hands and floated in front of the creator, hovering above her outstretched hand.

"You have a couple of choices..." Her voice was soft as the jewel flickered between pink and black a few times, before going pure white. Kagome inhaled sharply as she could no longer sense the jewel at all.

"You can go back to your time and live your life there..." Midoriko paused as she let the jewel fall and hit the ground, it still pure white, "Or you could give your life for your friends. A trade. You would forfeit your life and they would be brought back...and in doing so I will give you a blessing..."

Kagome felt her heart ache at the thought of her friends being able to live again...they could be happy...alive.

"What would your blessing be." Kagome croaked out, emotions flying through her as she thought of what could it be.

"You will be reborn. Reborn somewhere where you could live a life without demons and expectations..." The elder Miko gave her a slight smile, before glancing at the jewel.

"The jewel is no more...and no one will be able to harness its powers ever again..." She told Kagome as her eye landed on the pure white jewel on the ground. No longer filled with power. Just a regular jewel now.

"If I am reborn...will I remember anything..." She paused, "And will my friends remember me at all..." She didn't know if her friends remembering her would be a good or bad thing though. If she was gone, it could just hurt them to think of her because she would give up her life for theirs. They wouldn't want her to do such a thing.

"Your friends will remember you and what you gave up for them...you also will remember you past the day your adventure to the past started." Midoiko supplied, causing Kagome to pause.

'So on my fifteenth birthday, I will remember everything...' Her heart hurtthinking of her friends but she knew what she was going to choose. They would live. They may be mad about her choice but they would be alive and mad at her. That is all that matters.

"Could you bring back Kikyo as well...or..." Kagome asked, thinking of Inuyasha. She didn't want him to lose her and be alone again.

The elder Miko paused, looking at the younger girl with an intrigued look. "I could...is that what you wish. Her and your friends back?"

Kagome bit her lip, feeling that was still selfish, "Could you bring everyone back who was caused to die because of the jewels involvement."

There was silence before laughter poured out of Mikdoriko, as a large smile graced her lips, "You really were the best choice for the jewel...yes...your wish will be granted..."

Kagome smiled in relief, "And my family? Can a message be sent there by Inuyasha or someone of my choice? I don't want them to always wonder..." She didn't want to do that to her family. To never know what happened to her.

The elder Miko nodded, as Kagome began to glow.

"It will be done..." She paused as she stepped forward and gave her a kiss on her forehead, "Live a blessed and happy life."

Then Kagome felt warmth engulf her and her eyes closed as she felt her body shut down and feel like going into a deep sleep...not knowing what her future would hold, but was content that her friends and family could live and have a happy long life.
