Pokemon is owned by its creators, not me. I just own this story. That said this story will be within the pokemon universe, yet it will be my AU, meaning it wont be the same path as the current pokemon show is going. That means no unnecessary flames from pokemon fan nuts who wants me doing my story like the show (or manga). Cause that's not happening. After all this story (and others link to it) is for my enjoyment. If you hate it, than just don't read it.

Moving on, this story is link to my unfinished story 'I'll be Here Waiting' as well others in the work as prequels. That leads to a bigger story i'm working on, called 'Aurora'.

Now that's all said. A couple more things and i'll be done.

Chapter 1: Fears and secrets

***MEMORY/DREAM***

Wearing her short orange hair in two ponytails, dressed in a blue/white stripe shirt, yellow knee-length shorts, and red shoes. A 7-year-old held the hand of her favorite person in the world, her grandmother.

Her grandmother's violet hair was in simple short chin-length hairstyle, wearing a green jumper and white shoes.

Both were walking on a pathway that led to a grove in one (but few) of Cerulean City's countryside which isn't too far from Cerulean Cave.

The reason for venturing to the grove. Is the 7-year-old has officially become a gym leader. And her grandmother's making her famous berry tarts for the occasion. Yet for this to be, they need the rare fruits called 'Cerulean Berries', for they only grow in Cerulean within the grove outside the city-limits.

"I can see the berries from here, grandma." Said the 7-year-old, in excitement.

Her grandmother laughed. "I know. So can I, my Marill Mist." Smiled the violet-haired woman, looking down at her baby granddaughter.

The little girl's name is Misty. But loves her nickname her grandmother gave her. The elder woman uses to call Misty. Just Mist. That was until a few months ago, where the girl started dreaming as herself as a Marill. Which her grandmother told her it means her Pokémon spirit is Marill. Leading to the woman calling her granddaughter Marill Mist from now on.

"Now dear, I must remind you. Even though you're younger than your sisters were when they became gym leaders. I still want you go to Samuel's camp this coming summer."

The girl known as Misty, rolled her eyes to her grandmother's statement. "But grandma, I don't see why I have to go. I know almost everything about Pokémon, even if most are about water Pokémon." Misty said, hoping now that she's a gym leader her grandmother would cancel the trip.

Unlike her sisters; Daisy, Violet and Lily. Misty rather hangout with Pokémon instead of people. People judge. Pokémon don't. That's why Misty was against going to the camp. Besides her grandmother, Misty never been able to get along with people in her city including her own sisters. So, with an entire city against her (why, Misty has no clue). She's not looking forward to having a whole camp hating her. For what reason they would, she just knew they would hate her like almost everyone does.

"Oh, sweetie I know you're smart. But you're not going to the camp to just learn. You are also going to meet your parents' old friends' and their kids. And of course, Samuel's grandson, Ger- "

"Look grandma we're here." Misty quickly cut in, not wanting to again hear about the people she supposes to meet and become friends with. Yeah right, if it's not a Pokémon. It won't wanna be around her, without faking. And Misty's has enough of pretend people. Even if the people are her dead parents' friends. It'll still be the same. Which the 7-year-old rather not bother.

Not giving her grandmother a chance to lecture on interrupting someone talking. Misty took off for the closer tree. She was already climbing when she heard her grandmother's voice behind her.

"Thought you said your Pokémon spirit's a Marill. The way you climb trees. I say you more like a Mankey or Aipom."

Not sure why herself. But besides loving being inside water. Misty loves to be outside in nature, either just sitting on a rock or laying in the grass feeling a breeze go by or climbing from branch from branch in a tree. In some way to Misty. She couldn't be happy with just one. She must have both. Water and Nature. Such like this morning she had an early swim before coming here. Which a good climb was the best way to end a day…that and her grandmother's tart.

Regardless to her thoughts, Misty stopped climbing, stopping on a branch that gave the violet-haired woman pleasant view of her, hooked her legs to the branch, and hung upside down, with a hand scratching under her arm, sticking her tongue out at her grandmother, playfully. Imitating being a Mankey. Then it hit her as she drew a blank about the other Pokémon.

"Hey, I know what a Mankey is. But what's a Aipom, grandma?" Misty watched her grandmother smile to her curious question.

"Aipom isn't native of Kanto. But lives in mostly Johto; though discovered within Honenn. But it's like Mankey in many ways such having a monkey-like traits. But it's looks is that of a purple/ white little creature with a long tail that has a somewhat hand on the tip of the tail…..."

Having early teaching by her grandmother about the regions beyond Kanto. Misty's isn't surprised of more Pokémon are out there. Although she's aware of all water type (discovered), and both their strength and weaknesses. The orange-haired is still learning other Pokémon outside Kanto region.

"Anyway, not to go off subject. But Crystal has a Aipom, she got from Yellow. So maybe she'll let you see it, that is after you meet her and her daughter- "Hearing her grandmother going back to her unwilling trip coming. Misty fought a frown as she crossed her arms in a slight pout look, still upside down.

Besides those names belonging to two of her parents' friends. The 7-year-old isn't astounding by their odd names. Mostly with the Grandmaster (GM) being known as Red.

Resuming her climbing, once telling her grandmother she'll drop down berries so have the basket –they brought- ready. Misty's train of thought was on the GM. The only other person, besides her grandmother, she's come to respect. Especially since yesterday when the GM came to visit.

During his visit, the GM had spot her playing with her Staryu, unaware showing her skills in being a young trainer with not only with her Pokémon but also all the Pokémon in the gym, including her sisters. Therefore, Red challenge Misty to a battle. Outcome having the GM impressed with how she handled her Pokémon through the match, despite she lost. Therefore, he honors her the title gym leader. And because, as the grandmaster over the Pokémon League Kanto, Johto (some spots in the Orange islands), Red has authority to mark anyone he sees fit to be, a gym leader. Making her not only the youngest gym leader in history within Kanto, but also in her family being that her family –as far back as her great, great, great grandfather- has been the gym leader for the Cerulean gym. Unfortunately it also gave her sisters another reason to hate her, though reasons weren't her fault.

Notwithstanding in her movement of tossing berries down to the basket her grandmother was holding out so she would make a basket every time. Misty grin recalling what else the GM gave her besides her gym title. By now Misty restarted climbing, higher up for the sweeter berries that only grow closer to the top of the tree.

Due to her Pokémon Staryu evolving, in the middle of her match with GM, into a Starmie. He gave her a young Staryu to train. Currently, like Starmie, Misty has grew a quick bond with the star Pokémon.

Distracted by her thoughts, Misty 'unthinking' grasp the branch ahead of her by the hands, lifting herself upon the branch. Just as she broke her thought, prop on the branch, she found herself in the center of the tree. Unfortunately, and surprise, the wide space within the center wasn't empty.

Taking up nearly most the branches spaces around, were Weedles; nibbling on the berries there. Shocked of their appearances. Because normally due to their rareness. The Cerulean Berry grove have been untouched by any Pokémon. So, seeing a Pokémon let alone a Weedle, was unheard of. At that moment something told Misty to look up, where she did. And stared in more shock at what she saw.

Above her and higher up were Kakuna cling to the base of the tree. Clueless of why nearly a swarm of Weedles and Kakuna were here, Misty called down to her grandmother while not moving her eyes from the Pokémon, mostly since one Weedle closer to her finally notice her there, started glaring toward her.

"Grandma, there's Weedles and Kakuna up here."

"Weedles and Kakuna?" Misty heard the shock but also the uneasy in her grandmother's voice.

"What do I do? I left my Pokémon back home." Seeing the glaring bug Pokémon starting to slowly move her way. Misty stood up and begun stepping back a tiny bit.

"Why are they here?" She caught her grandmother say. "Never mind, we have enough berries for a tart each, including for your sisters. So, leave them and come down, but don't rush. You don't want to make them mad." Though her grandmother couldn't see her Misty nodded to this, stepping back a little more.

"Then I'll tell Andrew they're here once we reach his house." Complying to her grandmother's request again, though rolled her eyes at the mention of the grove's caregiver, Misty moved a bit faster just a little after noticing the Weedle had went back to eating forgetting about her for some reason. Nevertheless, of the reason, this gave her a chance to get down the tree quick…. Or so she thought.

Unfortunately, as she near reaching the base of the tree, a slight wind blew in, swaying leaves on the branches, as well as the Kakuna above her. The same time Misty felt that same feeling that -beforehand- told her to look up, was asking to do it again. Only to see one of the Kakuna quickly falling, until it hit the branch Misty's on.

Not getting a chance to react, after the branch snap by the Kakuna's extra weight, Misty screamed as she came plummeting from the tree to meet the earth. Unable to prepare herself what's coming, the 7-year-old shut her eyes quickly. At the same time her grandmother's voice reaches her.

"Don't worry, I got you!" True to her words, Misty's grandmother caught the shaken girl within her arms, though she tumbles back upon the ground. Nonetheless she still held onto her granddaughter in her arms. "Shh…" Her grandmother said, in a soothing voice. "You're okay, grandma got you." Making Misty's shaken form slowly calm. Enough for the girl to look up, within her arms, at her grandmother. Noticing pure fear clawing over her grandmother's face who now was staring at something in front of them. The look alone brought a chill to run up Misty's back before –without warning- the girl was toss into the air, just to land on her back a second later upon the ground. Following by a horrify scream belong to her grandmother.

Fighting the pain from the impact of hitting the ground. Misty's head shifted in the direction of where her grandmother was. To be shell-shock, seeing her grandmother with a Beedrill's horn-barb pierce through her chest by a Beedrill with red eyes. Unconsciously trembling at the sight, Misty's mouth opens to scream but nothing came out. She was petrified; unable to do or say anything. Nevertheless, tears trailed down her cheeks as she 'unfortunately' watches the Beedrill rise her grandmother high in the air by his rear point.

Suddenly for both Misty and the Beedrill. The purple-haired woman swiped her fist against the bug Pokémon. Causing the flying-bug to release her, where she slammed into the ground hard, before it flew away a little to shake off the dizzy brought on by unexpected attack from the human.

"Misty." Despite it was barely heard. Hearing her grandmother's voice was enough to snap Misty into action as she rushes over to her fallen grandmother.

Kneeling to her side, Misty saw the conditions her grandmother was in. It wasn't good. In the center of her mid-section was a puncher hole the size of a normal size Pokeball. Blood flowing from it, slowly though, but that could be because some of it was coming out of the purple-haired's mouth. Her normal sun-kiss skin was an eerie white and her lips were form into a purple-blue color. Jumping by the cold feeling bloody hand touching her face, though gently. Misty look to her grandmother, reading the determination in her glazed eyes, showing the reason the girl looks up to her so much.

"Sweetie I need you to listen carefully. Can you do that- "The purple-haired halt, coughing up blood. Regardless, she carried on as if she didn't just add more blood to her already covered bottom lip and chin and staining her shirt's -under her green jumper- collar. "Right?"

Even if she been blind Misty could hear, let alone see, her grandmother was dying. Despite her early age, Misty understands the nothingness she's feeling waving off her grandmother was the presences of death. Her grandmother's death.

"Yes grandma." Misty said with trembling lips, blinking her eyes to block off her blurry sight made by her tears.

"You saw the Beedrill's eyes were red, right." This time she didn't cough as bad as before, but that didn't stop the dread creeping in Misty's heart as she slowly nodded. "Then you also know that means it's in a rage, and won't stop attacking its target until-"

Although Misty knew this, and her grandmother's bad shape said she won't live long. The 7-year-old still stared in shock and disbelief at her grandmother's words.

"No grandma you can- "

"Shh…" Misty's grandmother soothes, resting a hand against her granddaughter's cheek, stroking offering her some comfort to what she's asking her to understand. "There's no time to argue. I promise your parents I will protect you. And so, I will. So be strong and do as I say, my Marill Mist." Regardless to her words, Misty couldn't overlook the tears slipping from her grandmother's eyes. Misty might be young, but she knew what her grandmother was going to do. Biting her bottom lip to stop from shouting her protest to the idea. Misty, silently weeping, slowly nodded yes. Earning a warm smile from her grandmother.

"Very good. Now stay to the ground, crawling until you reach the pathway. Then, not looking back no matter what, run until making it to Andrew's house for help. Do you understand?" Again, Misty nodded, still crying. Missing the heartbroken look her grandmother's showing, however the 7-year-old was able to feel the emotions; fear, anger, love and acceptation, rushing off the purple-haired's form. Causing the girl to cry more as her grandmother gave her farewell words to her.

"Always remember no matter what others tell you. You're the best gift that came to this town, even though they don't think so." This statement startles the girl making her stare at her grandmother in shocking state. "Yes, my sweetie I've known how you been treated by everyone. And I'm sorry they can't understand how special you are. Just keep that strong will you been using all this time to reach your dreams. And know like your parents. I will be watching over you. "

By now Misty could feel the Beedrill was, slowly, approaching. Apparently so did her grandmother. "I'm proud of you and always will. Now hide before the Beedrill see's you." Though she gripped her teeth as she sat upward. Misty's grandmother, despite having trouble breathing, raised to her knees, hugging her granddaughter. "Never question the feelings you feel around you. And if it's a warm welcome one. It means it's a good person. Give that feeling a chance. And don't be afraid to sometimes, open to others. If they show nothing but kindness toward you. I love you, Misty. Be safe." Misty's grandmother drawled back, looking at her. Her entire face serious. "You have power that haven't awaken yet." She kissed her forehead. "Trust yourself always."

Despite the situation, Misty's curious of what she meant about 'her powers'. What powers? However, Misty didn't get a chance to ask, because her grandmother, shifting, still on her knees, turned toward the bug Pokémon flying back, "Now go its coming." Her grandmother ordered, while intently shielding Misty from the Pokémon's view.

And though reluctant to do, Misty slipped pass her grandmother's turned form and hide in a bush by the moment the Beedrill arrived and continued its deadly assault on her grandmother. And even though she heard the death screams of her grandmother behind her. Misty, once fighting from turning around to the scene, kept herself to the ground, crawling.

But stopped once reaching the pathway. And though the screams long since ended. Misty jump to her feet and ran as fast as her little legs could. Eventually spotting the house on the outskirts of the pathway. Misty didn't let up on her running until she busted into the one-bedroom house, shouting, "Come help!"

Despite aware she busted into Andrew Green's living room and interrupted on his and a few citizens' conversation. Misty never saw the slap coming, causing the girl to tumble to the floor from the impact of Mr. Green's hand.

"I told you to never enter my home without Betty with you!" Bellowed Mr. Green's voice down to her on the floor.

None of the citizens there batting an eye to Mr. Green slapping her. Was no surprise to Misty. Because the entire city hates and treats her like trash; reasons Misty got no clue why, just that they have for as far back as she can remember. That is when she isn't around her grandmother they do, including her sisters. In those times they all wear fake smiles toward her.

Normally Misty takes these treatments without a word, so not to worry her grandmother. But knowing her grandmother knew all along and was sorry how she's been treated. Misty wasn't holding her tongue no longer. From now on, she will be heard. Especially now cause she's, though knew she might be in denial, hoping they could save her grandmother in time.

Enduring the swollen forming on the side of her face. Misty took a deep breath. "BUG POKEMON ARE IN THE GROVE- AHH!" Misty screamed by Mr. Green stepping down on her arm.

"You're stupid if you think we going to believe that shit!" Not letting up on her arm, Mr. Green twisted his foot into her arm as if he was crushing out a cigarette. Over Misty's screams of pain, she could still hear Mr. Green's voice. "There's never been bug or any Pokémon in the grove- "

Regardless Mr. Green's causing her harm and sure her arm might be broken. Misty, once again enduring the damage inflicted on her, shouted again.

"PLEASE MY GRANDMOTHER WILL DIE!"

"Mayor Sorairo!" Cried one of the man citizen there. Finally, Misty thought. Someone heard her. Encouraging her to keep going.

"SHE BEEN ATTACKED BY BEEDRILL!" However, as Misty heard another citizen cry her grandmother and the city's mayor was allergic to Beedrill, and Weedles' stings. Her heart sank, forming any chance of hope she had of her grandmother living, crash into the reality she didn't want to accept. While also concreting her grandmother's last words to her was her really saying goodbye.

The same time she stored each word into her mind her grandmother told her. The recent citizen who spoke first was speaking again. "Then let's not stand around. We got to save her!" And just like that all the citizens ran out the house, rushing toward the grove, with some gripping Pokeballs in their hands.

Assuming everybody left. Misty begun getting up, using her good arm, only to be shove back down by none other than Mr. Green. "If Betty dies. I blame you." Feeling the numbness by the dead weight her arm became, Misty felt a coldness surround her as Mr. Green towered over, glaring. "And will make your life a living hell thereafter!" Even if Misty had not been in too much pain to throw something back to him, she wouldn't have a chance as her face was met with Mr. Green's boot, causing the weeping girl to fall unconscious not long later…...

-***End of Dream/Memory***-

The night after leaving Cerulean City

After three helpings of the feast Brock made to celebrate his win back at Cerulean City. So, it was no surprise Ash felt he could sleep for days.

However, that didn't seem the case as a strong feeling kept telling him to wake up. And seeing he wasn't going to be able to enjoy his dream of being a Pokémon Master with the annoying feeling not going away. Ash finally gave up on his sleep.

Seeing he wouldn't be getting any sleep until he finds what's wrong. Ash turned over in his sleeping-bag, staring only to the closet sleeping bag near him, holding his female traveling…...

Wait, are me and Misty even friends? Wondering about this later, Ash, along with awoken Pikachu, left his comfortable resting spot to investigate the carrot haired.

And thanks to the campfire still a bit alive with its flames casting some light over the campsite, allowed Ash to see Misty was in fact shifting back and forth within her sleeping bag.

Even as he moved over to the shuffling girl, he saw in the corner of his eye Brock was dead to the world. In fact, his quick friend was talking loud in his sleep about some girl call Susie, saying she's the most beautiful, sexy breeder he wanted to-

Becoming uncomfortably with the rest the Pokémon breeder was speaking. Ash tunes out the teen by focusing all his attention on his other travel companion, who's clearly having a nightmare. Ash was just about to shout at Misty to wake up. That is until he caught, she's crying silently in her sleep calling for someone not to leave her.

But he wasn't the only one seeing the stress the girl was in, as Pikachu moves over to Misty's head, brushing it's against hers to give comfort to the weeping girl.

Choosing to take a gentle way in waking her. Ash got into a kneeling position, and softly as he could, shook the girl's arm in waking her.

"Hey Misty, wake up. You're having a nightmare. Come on Misty…." Ash wasn't sure how long he kept this up, but eventually she started stirring. Which Ash couldn't understand he seem happy when he saw those green eyes of hers meet his- Wait there's blue mix in the green… Wow…. But beside noticing the sea green/blue orbs that are Misty's eyes. Ash didn't overlook the tears or red puffiness in them.

Meanwhile while Ash's unaware he's staring too long. Misty was. At first when she was waking from her nightmare of the past. She been still groggy and not fully awake from the nightmare. So, she didn't catch right away Ash's face was nearly hovering over her form.

Making the strong feelings she gets whenever in his presence, even including their first meeting, awake deep emotions she never thought she could have or again, in her.

Strong feelings brought on by one's very soul. And the only person she ever felt holding such a source was her grandmother. However, Ash's is still a bit different, but in an effective way. Cause like her grandmother. She likes being near him, feeling safe and even welcome. While another feeling with unknown source from Ash. Had her getting uneasy whenever she feels she might care for the boy. Which she thought is weird cause she's only just met him less than three months now.

And that logic alone is having herself hide behind the only thing the citizens of Cerulean gave her. Negative actions. So, seeing the boy close enough that she saw herself in his eyes. Misty narrowed her eyes, gripping her hands in fists, as a slight growl left her lips.

Fortunately, spotting Misty's eyes narrowing. And though not known the girl long. Right away Ash knew she's getting upset. Making the boy withdrawal back as the orange-haired sat upward in her sleeping bag.

It was here after, unknown the other was doing it too, that both Misty and Ash glance over to where Brock was sleeping. Where the last one was racking his brain of why Brock's loud sleep talking didn't bother him enough to wake him. But Misty's silent weeping and nearly soundless shuffling had him up. While Misty on the other hand was relief that she didn't have to worry about two problems tonight just one. Thinking this, Misty looks back to Ash just as he did her.

"Why are you over here? I was sure your sleeping bag is way over there." Misty could count on her fingers in the time Ash's going to start shouting back. It might wake Brock, but Misty thinks it's worth the risk if gets Ash angry enough to leave her alone.

Naturally, Ash had remark ready to start up, that's becoming their usual thing to do when around the other, arguing. But didn't. Cause even he couldn't disregard Misty was just acting this way just to keep him from asking her about her nightmare. Same thing he did many times whenever his mother question about when he has nightmares. However, like his mother taught him. Sometimes talking about it helps. Therefore, using the gentle path he did to wake her. Ash reaches over to Pikachu, scratching behind his ear as he spoke.

"Me and Pikachu heard you cry- "

"I wasn't crying." Despite the path he's taken, Ash didn't stop his eyes from rolling at her words.

"Weeping, whatever." Misty glared at him for this. But she's picking up quick, Ash wasn't, unlike her, letting his anger leading him. Regardless, she wasn't letting her guard down. She been able to handle her nightmare simply fine since her grandmother's death. Now wasn't any different despite deep down she wanted to open to someone that wasn't a Pokémon.

"Anyway," hearing him speak again, Misty moved her eyes back to his, being she had been looking down, but also in deep thought. And of course, Ash was none the wiser of this. "We wanted to see if you are okay. -"

Before she stops herself, Misty's mouth open. "I was just fine- "

"You didn't look like it!" Basically, from the stern anger in Ash's voice told Misty this is as far as the other 10-year old's taking a calmer way in the conversation. However, Misty's thankful for this.

"Who asked you!?" She hissed back.

It was then Pikachu took that moment to jump into Misty's lap, rising in his spot, nuzzling Misty's neck. No matter how much Misty tried, she couldn't resist the yellow mouse's cuddling with her. Therefore, giving a small smile to the Pokémon. Misty begun returning the same affection back to Pikachu, saying, "But thanks anyway, my Pika-pal."

Regardless the other 10-year-old was only thanking Pikachu and she had shouted at him beforehand. Ash couldn't hold his anger for Misty's attitude. Because for some weird reason, watching Misty and Pikachu cuddling was the cutest thing he's seen. Which seem odd, cause usually witnessing the two showing affection to one another always frustrated him. So, he's nearly astonished why it looks different now. Unable to find the answer to the change. Ash resumes his compose state speaking with Misty.

"Look, I just-" Here Ash release a deep sigh. "I know you don't see us as friends, but if you want someone to talk to or just listen- "

"I have Pikachu." Again, the words slipped from her lips before she could stop it. However, Ash just smiled at this, if not chuckled a bit. Clearly, he could read Misty prefer Pikachu's help. His wasn't needed. Which was fine with him.

"Yeah, you do." Ash for the second time, scratched Pikachu behind the ear, regardless his friend was still within Misty's arms. "Make sure she has good dreams, so I can too." Due to Ash keeping from looking to Misty as Pikachu cry its name in agreement. The black-haired boy missed the shock and blush gracing Misty's cheek at his statement of unable to sleep while she's troubled. Leaving her nonresponse, when Ash got to his feet, saying a quick goodnight before, while still avoiding her eyes, returned to his sleeping bag.

("Was that really nice? He was just worried. He even heard you before I did.") Hearing Pikachu speak his Pikachu language clearly. Misty bit the bottom of her lip, unsure of what to do.

However, Pikachu had an idea. ("I know you care for Ash –probably more than even you know- Misty. And I also know you're scared. But telling me or your Pokémon hasn't stopped the nightmare, has it?")

Misty's head slightly shook no. No reason to deny what she already told Pikachu couple of days ago, the same time she revealed to the mouse she could understand him.

Unknown to any humans, excluding her late grandmother and GM Red. Misty been able to understand Pokémon's emotions enough to give her the ability to understand their speech after being around them for a little bit. However, she learned from experience, a human able to understand Pokémon talking, was consider a freak or a joke. And like many of Misty's hidden talents. She rather keeps this gift to herself. A gift, mind you, she figured not long after her grandmother's death. Her grandmother was speaking of it as the power she holds. Not to mention Red himself told her its best she conceals this gift.

("And even with the walls between you and your sisters mended. The nightmare still remains.")

Here Misty nodded yes. Before sneaking a peek across from her at the now boy's laying form within his sleeping bag, and thanks to the stars in the night sky as the campfire's light begun dimming out. She can see him clear enough to notice that even though he's inside his sleeping bag. Ash wasn't asleep.

Pikachu noticed his second best 'human' friend, staring over at his first best 'human' friend, longing. Of course, the mouse was sure she's not realizing (or in denial) what him, Ash's and her Pokémon, know about the two, not long after they begun traveling together. But then again humans can't pick-up on things like that like Pokémon can. Even the non-Pokémon creatures don't hold that kind of natural ability.

Reaching up, the mouse licked Misty under the chin, making the girl lower eyes to him. ("Trust him, Misty. Ash's a good person to open up too.") Stating this, Pikachu notice a sparkle in Misty's eyes, before she looked back in the direction of Ash.

Although she wasn't sure if hours went by or just a few seconds. Misty finally came to a decision; however, Pikachu was long since went to sleep in her lap. Misty couldn't explain it, but she's sure the mouse knew all along what her decision would be. Securing the yellow Pokémon in one of her arms. Misty got to her feet before she gave herself a chance to chicken out.

Eventually adjusting himself into his sleeping bag. Ash had hoped sleep would find him. Unfortunately, that didn't become the case. Cause while he been shutting his eyes. Figuring closing his eyes would help pull him to dream world. Sound outside reaches his ears. But it wasn't the same, per-say, sound earlier. No, this sound was scraping noise against the ground as if someone was dragging something. Not long later, as the noise got closer until he was sure it was beside him, Ash felt brush of air, then a 'plop' sound, before silent again.

However, catching what just process beside him. Ash wasn't any surprise to see a familiar red sleeping bag with a bubble background, when he reopened his eyes. Nor was he shock to find Misty, sitting crossed legs, with Pikachu sleeping away in her lap, on the sleeping bag. Regardless the girl was looking away from him, though her body was facing him.

Not needing to be told too. Ash removed himself from his own sleeping bag, sitting atop it, in the same position as the girl across him was. But he was looking straight at her, waiting. Waiting for what he wasn't sure, but his mother was there when he been ready to talk. So maybe that's why he can't get back to sleep. Misty still needs him. So, the 10-year-old, rarely though, sat patiently. It paid off.

"The dream- No. Nightmare I was having, actually been having since." Misty took a deep breath and started stroking the napping mouse. Right away Ash knew whatever Misty will tell him was going to be big, as he caught silent tears trail down the side of the orange-haired's cheek. Still, she didn't look his way.

"The nightmare is the memory of my grandmother's death." Instantly the curious side of him was ready to bolt her with questions of this family member. Then again, he wouldn't have known about her sisters if he didn't need the gym badge. Although he had to keep reminding himself. Misty's not the only one here, who's also keeping their family members concealed.

Realizing this, Ash settles with just, "your grandmother?" Hopefully, it'll be enough. It was cause after nodding yes to his question. She started talking about her nightmare but also memory.

"You see I was barely 1-year old when my parents died. So, I didn't know them, except what others said. And since I was told I looked a lot like my mom than my sisters. My sisters resent me for it." Despite that was one of the reasons her sisters hated her and fine with the treatment their little sister got around Cerulean. The person to say she look like her mother. Was her grandmother, just as she uses to tell her, her personality was mixers of both her parents. But Ash didn't need to know that. Misty thought, while going on.

"That's why I stayed close to my grandmother, who became our caregiver after our parents' passing. Because she loved to cook, I spent many times in the kitchen with her growing up." Though Misty faced away from him. Ash could still hear the happiness in her voice as she spoke about her grandmother. "Despite all her cooking skills. She was known for her berry tarts. However, the berries for the tarts weren't just any berries. These berries were simply called 'Cerulean Berry', because they grew only in a grove on the outskirts of Cerulean City limit, close to the Cerulean Cave. And since these berries were unique in using and tasting them. They weren't easy to keep in stock that's why my grandmother only made her tarts on special occasion."

Knowledge of the berries Misty's speaking about, due to his mom using the berries in many of her recipes –that he got rope in helping with when he was little- Ash knew how difficulty the berries were to keep in stock.

Though he never went on the trip with his mother when she would go pick those –with group of people from their town- berries in Cerulean's grove. He's aware why the berries were considering rare in Kanto (or anywhere). And that's because once picking them. If you don't use them or eat them right after picking them that day. Then they need to be frozen, so they won't lose they're desirable sweet taste. Unfortunately, once thawed out, they must be used at once, or they won't just lose flavor. But they will become rotten.

"Three years ago, I was officially made a gym leader alongside my sisters, mostly cause my first Pokémon Starmie, that at the time was a Staryu, evolved."

"Starmie's your first Pokémon?" With the mention of Pokémon. Ash broke from his memories as he was back to listening to Misty's story.

"Yeah, she is. And not only is she my best friend. But my grandmother gave me her." For a moment Misty waited a bit to see if Ash's going to ask anything else. When he didn't. She restarted her story.

"Which of course a Staryu can only become a Starmie once reaching on strong level of fighting experiences. Therefore, I prove I was a great enough trainer to be a gym leader." Partly true with Red giving her the title of gym leader because her Pokémon evolved in battle against him. She wasn't lying to Ash. Just not telling how or who gave her the title of gym leader. Again, that detail he didn't need to know. After all its nobody's business she knows the GM.

"Anyway, taking this as special occasion. My grandmother decided to make her tarts. And even though it was all for me. I still joined her on the trip to the grove…" With the memory replaying, Misty removed the still sleeping Pikachu from her lap, laying him between where hers and Ash's sleeping bags meet. Only to pull her legs up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them, resting her turned head upon her knees.

Noticing her body language quick. Ash felt it was better if he didn't ask anything during the rest of Misty's story. And therefore, he didn't.

"It was later," Misty said while later after finished retelling the grove event. "Found out, the Weedles and Kakuna moved to the grove because another swarm of Pokémon called 'Ninjask' had moved into their territory forest a mile from the front entrance of Cerulean."

Ninjask? Are they another kind of bug Pokémon? questioned Ash to himself. Having a firsthand experience himself. Ash wasn't taken back to hear a Pokémon –though in rage- will kill a person. Nonetheless it didn't make Misty's grandmother's death less tragic.

In fact, the moment when Misty explains what happen after her grandmother toss her in the air. Using the method his mother did when he would become too choke-up to go on telling of his nightmares. Ash had reached over and placed a hand over her shaken ones.

The action alone, though she had been shocked by it, encourage Misty to continue. Which is the reason Misty's face was facing Ash's now. And though he need not no longer. Ash's hand was still over hers. He even squeezes them a couple times, in comfort for her.

However, unknown to Ash. Misty didn't once mention about her past treatment from the citizens of Cerulean. Therefore, Misty left out about getting a broken arm from Mr. Green, just revealing she reach the care-giver's house and the people there, rush to the grove to save her grandmother. Where sadly her grandmother was already gone by then.

Furthermore, true to his words. Mr. Green made her life hell in Cerulean right after her grandmother was buried. Starting with convincing not just nearly everybody in the city, that she had provoked the Beedrill in attacking causing her grandmother's death. But her sisters, and because it was known her grandmother didn't go anywhere without her allergy shots. Which, unfortunately, her shots had been found later, near the tree Misty had fell out of. Therefore, it was easy to get her sisters to believe his lies. However, the only thing that kept her strong. Was her Pokémon, and of course her grandmother's last words to her. Follow your dreams and keep that strong will.

But despite that leading her. Misty was relief when Red gave her permission to travel and leave the gym to her sisters to handle.

Aware her shaken form was calm due to Ash's –unexpected- comfort. Was thankful the dark night was concealing how warm her face was at the simple actions from the boy. And though she won't say it aloud. She's glad she pulled him out the river, regardless the bike Red gave on her 10th birthday got destroyed.

"I'm sorry you lost your grandmother," Ash starts, unaware he broke Misty from her deep thoughts. "And believe me, I understand. But still does that mean all bug Pokémon have to get the cold shoulder from you, cause of one?"

Immediately Misty jerks her hands out from under Ash's by his statement. Actions he was not surprised of.

"After hearing what I told you?" Misty faced her entire body away from him, crossing arms over her chest. "I can't believe you asked such a thing."

Yes, the stars gave some source of light for him. But the most darkness of the night made it hard to see much. Meaning he can't see Misty's face expression. However, he heard the anger, and the hurt in her voice.

It's this last emotion having him wishing he use another way to phrase what he's trying to say.

"Look Misty, I didn't want you to take my question like that-

"And how was I supposed to take it, Ash?!" shouted back Misty. For a second Misty forgot she been trying to keep her voice down so not to awake Brock.

Her temper taking up the former hurt within her voice. But Ash wasn't backing down. Misty needed to understand where he's coming from. For Butterfree's sake if anything. Taking a chance, Ash laid a hand upon her shoulder, which went stiff thereafter.

"Misty?" Though she didn't push his hand off her shoulder. Misty didn't answer him. Making the boy sigh before going on. "Just give me a chance to explain my question. And maybe you might get why I ask such question."

"I doubt it. But I'm listening."

Though she's avoiding looking his way. Ash believed her words. He has her ears attention. Which is all he needed. Withdrawing his hand from her shoulder. Ash sat back, hands supporting behind him, so he won't fall back.

"Well before I can explain. Answer me this. You remember a guy name Gary, I told you and Brock about."

Not sure where he's going with this. Misty still found her mind recalling about Ash speaking of a guy from his hometown called Gary. She's also reminded that it been because the remark this Gary person wrote on a Cerulean City's sign. Fueled Ash into heading for Cerulean right after.

"Yes, I recall you saying something about him being a somewhat rival of yours or something."

"Well unbelievably. He was my first best friend."

Curiosity getting the best of her. Misty shifted her head his way. "Really?"

"Yeah, that is him and a girl name Leaf. Her and Gary were next door neighbors. We all knew each other since we were babies." Drifting off to his happier memories back home. Ash overlooked pointing out to Misty that she was nearly turned completely around to him.

However, noticing the happy tone in Ash's voice appeared once speaking about the girl's name 'Leaf'. Misty felt a tight grip in her chest as a frown found her lips. But realizing what she's doing. Misty pushed those feelings behind denial, by switching to teasing him.

"Oh, is that your girlfriendback home." She teased, lingering on the word 'girlfriend'. Ash scoffed at this.

"What me and Leaf? Yeah right, she's more like a sister to me. Since my mom babysit her and Gary a lot. And besides, she has this big crush on Gary. She denied all the time. But you must be slow not to see her feelings for him. Then again Gary's still clueless to it."

With that last statement, Misty was unsure what to say. Nonetheless that didn't matter because Ash carried on.

"Anyway. Back to my story. Before me and Gary broke our friendship. We were the best of friends along with Leaf. So, the three months before going to the summer camp Professor Oak was hosting…."

Not seeing it, Ash missed Misty's entire body go stiff a moment at him mentioning of the camp she herself was supposed to of went to, but because having a broken arm and her sisters canceling the trip. Misty never got a chance to go. Nor did she meet Oak when he came to her grandmother's funeral, like her sisters got too, because she wasn't allowed to attend the funeral. But again, with her keeping the detail of Samuel's camp out of her story. It's no surprise Ash had no clue she almost went to the camp he's speaking of.

"…. My mom chose to take me, Gary and Leaf to the beach. And since Leaf haven't learn to swim yet. She built sandcastles with my mom, while me and Gary went to the water. But because every time our playing became rough playing. It wasn't long until we washed away from the shore. Enough it had been hard to see my mom and Leaf on the beach. Immediately scared, I started crying."

Ash lost himself as the memory replayed behind his eyes. While Misty was listening to every word, while thankful the night's hiding the worry placed on her face.

"Which Gary started teasing me of being a cry baby. But I didn't care, not to mention that I knew he was picking on me because he was hiding, he was scared too. Just by the time we begun swimming back. There was a tug on my leg before I was pulled underwater." Now it was Ash's turn to be shaken up a bit by his memory. And like he did for her. Misty didn't hesitate in laying her hand over one of his, even giving it a small squeeze. However, because Misty couldn't see it, she didn't see Ash give a small smile of the returning comfort she gave him.

"Turns out it was tentacles belong to a Tentacruel. But because I didn't know that and scared. I bit down on the closest tentacle holding me, which had been gripping my arm." Unaware doing it, Ash's free hand moved to his left ankle, rubbing it. Misty on the other hand, eyes widen by what attacked him and but also unsurprised when Ash explain he was struck by the jellyfish's poison sting. "The sting felt like nothing I ever felt. But, after being stung. I began stop breathing before blacking out. To be honest I have no clue what happen after that, because I was told, later Gary had me back to shore, before I was rush to the hospital. Which I woke up in Viridian hospital. Only to discover by the doctor who worked on me. That I'm allergic to poison stings from both Tentacruel and Tentacool. News that my mom didn't know because the only person in our family who had been allergic to the jellyfish Pokémon. Was my grandpa. My mom's dad. But because he died when my mom was only 3. She didn't know. And get this, my mom almost stops me from going on my journey because that event alone. Luckily, Prof. Oak convinced her in letting me go. That is as long as I have my allergy shots and refilled them each year- "

"Where's you Pokedex?" Taken back by this unexpected question. Ash pointed toward a bit to his left where his green backpack was.

"It's in my jacket- "Ash didn't get to finish as Misty getting to her feet, walked over to his backpack and pulled out his jacket. Not long he heard Dexter's voice.

Tentacruel, the jellyfish Pokémon and Tentacool's last evolution. Tentacruel has large red orbs on its head. The orbs glow before lashing the vicinity with a harsh ultrasonic blast. The tentacles are normally kept short. On hunts, they are extended to ensure and immobilize prey. Has 80 tentacles that move about freely. They can sting, causing poisoning and sharp, stabbing pain. This Pokémon's outburst creates rough waves around it, they usually live-in complex rock formation on the ocean flo-

"I know all that," Ash heard Misty say, following up with annoyed sigh. He almost turned her way, but then thought better of it. After all he was lost of why Misty's looking up Tentacruel. However soon he got his answer, by Dexter speaking about a list of ingredients for the antidote of the jellyfishes' poison.

It seems the raw ingredients can be collected in Kanto. And several areas within in your range are spots to find them. After gathering all the ingredients, be sure to make it into a powder then place into a cold glass of water before drinking. Although it doesn't cure an allergy reaction. It will delay most of its effect long enough to reach medical help.

"Oh, that's good to hear," Misty was saying, returning to the sitting position she been on her sleeping bag. No, she couldn't see the shock look on Ash's face. But noticing her own –sudden- actions with why learning about the antidote. Thankfully for the night hiding her blushing. Misty waved her hand in front of her face.

"And before you say anything. I wouldn't look too much into what I did. I'm just making sure you're still alive enough to pay me back for my bike."

Not sure how he's able to. But Ash didn't believe her words. For some reason he's aware Misty let it slip that she cares, if just a little, for his wellbeing. "Sure Misty, whatever you say." He responded with. "Anyway, now that you heard my reason. Do you get my early question to you?"

"No not really." Hearing this as her answer. Ash couldn't believe it. Was she kidding? Fighting from slapping his forehead in annoyed. She really didn't catch the purpose of his story. Or she's in denial. Either way Ash wasn't giving up.

"Okay, how about this. Would it be fare for me to hate all water Pokémon because of my bad encounter with Tentacruel or I'm allergic to it and Tentacool's poison."

"What?! Of course not! It wouldn't be right to the others that- "As it dawns on Misty mid-speech, she didn't have to see his grin. She just knew he was. "I guess I see your point." Misty said, regretfully. "I'm sorry of how I treated your bug Pokémon."

"I'm glad you finally understand." Still talking, Ash, thankful his belt was still on, reach for one of his pokeball. "But it's not me you should apologize too. It's Butterfree." With saying that, Ash gave a slight toss of the pokeball in his hand into the air. White flash left the pokeball, only to leaving Butterfree there once the light died down.

Although Misty took, she treated Butterfree unfair. Especially, unaware to Ash, knowing all the wonderful things Butterfree said to her and its affections for her, back when it was a Caterpie. And how heartbroken it was when she praised Pidgeotto on a good match against her and her Pokémon but not it. Fact why her and Ash had felled into a big shouting match earlier because she hurt Butterfree's feelings by ignoring him. However, regardless to this. Misty –out of habit- was in process of jumping to her feet and run for the miles when Ash released Butterfree. But the familiar weight that appeared in her lap. Had her staying in her spot, while looking down at the mouse that was again in her lap.

Apparently heard the conversation between Ash and Misty through his nap. Pikachu, believing like Ash, Misty needs to do this. Therefore, he returned to her lap, trying to encourage her to be strong through this.

"I brought you out here, because Misty has something to say to you." Explaining this to Butterfree once it was hovering beside him in the air. Ash then looked back to Misty. "Misty?"

"Uh, right." Misty swallowed, before locking her sight on the floating/flying bug. "Butterfree what I want to say is I'm sorry of how I been treating you now and when you were a Caterpie. Mostly when you been nothing but nice to me. I mean if I was you. I wouldn't forgive me. But- "

About to tear up at realizing she had treated the bug Pokémon just almost the same way she been treated in the past.

"BUTTTT-FREEEEEEEEEE! (Don't cry. I forgive you!)" However, Butterfree's cry of it forgave her, halt Misty's tears as she stares in the direction of where the flying bug Pokémon flew into the air, doing a few happy loops, causing both her and Ash laughing at the sight.

Although even if he couldn't understand, unlike Misty, what Butterfree said. Ash was sure Butterfree more than forgave the orange-haired's former actions toward it. But Ash wasn't finish as he asked Butterfree to perch on his arm once it came back down to them. Secured on his arm, Ash pet Butterfree atop the head.

"Now that you apologize. All that's left is to pat him on the head, saying excellent job back at the gym. Right?" Although this was his idea. Ash still wanted Misty to be willing to do this.

"Wait what?" However, the fear returning to her voice said she's still scared.

"Look Misty, you were going to do that anyway, back when he was just a Caterpie. And I'm sure he's not going to do another evolution." The last part said, made Ash snickers a bit, causing Misty to puff her cheeks at what he considers funny.

Unfortunately –or luckily- for Misty. Pikachu wasn't letting her back down. And though Ash had no clue what Pikachu said to Misty. He was happy to see it work, as Misty gave a small okay.

Moving over if not slowly, to Misty while Butterfree was still on his arm. Ash said nothing as his bug Pokémon lean it's head out to Misty's shaken outreach hand toward it. But an inch from contacting her hand with his head, Butterfree halt. Showing it wanted Misty to do the last steps in making mends. Quieter than he ever thought he could be. Ash, along with Pikachu, watched the scene play out.

For a moment it seems Misty was going to back out, mostly when she moves Pikachu over to Ash's lap. But she didn't. No instead, calming her nerves. The orange-haired finally touch her hand against Butterfree's head. Learning quickly, "he's soft," she said with a giggle.

As if that was the trigger, Butterfree no longer holding back, made the last distance from him and Misty to disappeared. Giving both Ash and Pikachu a view of the flying bug nuzzling against Misty like what Pikachu does. And not once did Misty flinches or scare away. She was instead, cuddling with the over trilled Butterfree from her affection.

"I told you, he's a cool Pokémon." Pointing this out, Misty's respond to Ash was her sticking out her tongue, saying simply.

"Shut up."

Taking the remark with a different direction, Ash snickers until he was laughing. Misty not too long joins him. By the time their laughter died down. The two was listening to Pikachu and Butterfree having a conversation with each other, with Pikachu perched on Ash's shoulder and Butterfree on Misty's shoulder. However again where Ash couldn't understand what the Pokémon were saying. Misty did.

Causing her to laugh sometimes or even blushing at Pikachu agreeing with Butterfree that she's the most beautiful thing he's laid his eyes on. It was until Pikachu finally said to the bug Pokémon the orange-haired could understand them. That Butterfree became shy at knowing Misty knew it's crush on her. But Misty seeing Butterfree in another light, surprise all of them, including herself. When she simply kisses Butterfree between its eyes.

Causing two things to happen. Pikachu getting slightly jealous to pout enough for Misty, while giggling, kiss the yellow mouse between its ears. And Ash seeing –regardless of the less light- both moments between both his Pokémon and Misty. Formed a tight feeling in his stomach, as he's face became warm. Actions Ash couldn't understand. However even if he had time to understand it. That train of thought as well as feelings, was pushed away as he heard, while she's talking to Pikachu of not being jealous cause he'll always be her 'Pikapal', yawn.

Making himself yawn, before saying, "I guess that's a sign we should go back to sleep."

"I think you're right." Misty said, hiding another yawn behind her hand. "But if it's okay with you. Can Butterfree stay out of his pokeball for just tonight?"

His hand been motion of retrieving Butterfree's pokeball at hearing Misty's request. Stopped Ash, "Sure I guess." He says, before shifting his sight from Misty to Butterfree. "What do you say, Butterfree do you want to stay out?"

"Butterfree-but-freee!" Ash chuckles a little at Butterfree's excitement.

"I think that means yes." Ash said to Misty.

Thereafter once the 10-year-old was comfortable in their separate sleeping bags. Though still dark, but his eyes by now adjusting to the night. Ash discovered why Misty wanted Butterfree to stay out of its pokeball.

Its body laying above the space between where Ash and Misty's sleeping bags meet, where Pikachu made his spot in the middle of here; by chest-length to Ash. Butterfree's head was resting against the side of Misty's. Both sound sleep like Pikachu was.

Watching the three; Misty, Pikachu and Butterfree. Sleep away in their spots. Brought a smile to Ash. Having he made peace with Misty and Butterfree. Ash happily rested his hands under his head, staring at the sky. Although the night sky was something to gaze at, Ash wanted to know something.

Why am I still awake? He thought assuming he go right to sleep after helping Misty –and Butterfree-, so why he's still wide awake if Misty's sound asle-

"Ash…." Hearing the whisper, Ash coming out his thoughts, not moving his resting position, turned his face to the side, looking over to the orange-haired who called to him, showing, though her head was laying down, her face was toward him.

"What is it?" Though he couldn't sleep. His voice sound groggy in sleep. Anyway, Ash didn't get a response back from Misty right away. In fact, of how long it took, Ash almost thought she fell asleep. But eventually she spoke in again the same whisper tone.

"I just wanted to say…." Again, in the long pause, he thought she's out cold. But with a sigh release before she continued. Ash figured Misty must be struggling with what she wants to say. "Um thanks for caring and… being a great friend…. I- "

"Wait!?" Startled by those words, or more importantly one word. Ash shouted, staring shockingly at Misty. Thankfully, his voice was still low in volume. Staying in his stun state, Ash's voice forms a stutter. "Do y-ou mean that? You…an-and me are….fr-friends?" Ash hated along with the stutter was nervousness.

Unknown to the boy. Misty wasn't faring any better. Her heart was racing at what she's doing. But both Pikachu and even Butterfree was right. Ash deserves, after sharing something with her and even helping her befriend Butterfree, some thanks. However, she didn't expect her to say the f word or Ash's reaction. Nonetheless she came this far and taking it back would be wrong.

"Yes, that's if you want to be- "

"Sure." Ash said in no hesitating, before able to hide the trilled in his tone of voice. However, this only had Misty smile a little in the dark. "I mean yeah."

"I'm glad."

"Me too." A moment, the two held eye-contact through the night, smiling quietly. That was until Misty blinking her eyes, felt fear rise to the surface. Telling her this was too fast for her taste.

"But don't think you're off the hook in paying me back for my bike." By this statement, Ash laughed.

"I wouldn't dream of it." And Ash means it. Although he hated when Misty reminds him about his debt to her. He couldn't overlook that he did owe her a new bike.

"Also," Misty start, pulling Ash from his thoughts, "Since this is new to me. I would rather keep this new friendship a secret, that means from Brock too." Inexpertly Ash had mix thoughts about this. One, this was new to him too. Besides Brock when it comes to human friends. Gary and Leaf were the last friends he had. And both those ended on bad terms. For some reason Ash didn't want that to happen with him and Misty. But back to Brock. Ash's not sure they should hide this from their other traveling companion. However, figuring Brock pick-up on it soon. Ash came to his answer.

But as Ash open his mouth to speak. Brock took that moment to rise in his sleeping bag, startling both the 10-year-olds, declaring his love and devotion to the same girl called 'Susie' in his sleep. Staring over the dead campfire at the teen sleep-talking, neither the two 10 year old spoke a word as Brock continued declaring his love to the mystery girl, though both were blushing at some of the details Brock said he wanted to do with the girl.

Eventually, and finally, Brock fell back in his sleeping bag, snoring loudly. The teen was done, filling Ash and Misty's ears about their travel companion's sexual thoughts. By then Ash found his voice.

"I think I rather have the loud snoring Brock over a sleeping talking Brock." Although it wasn't much, and Ash wasn't trying to be funny. Misty had a giggling fit.

"You and me both. I was hoping he wasn't like all teens. But I lucked out." She said, laying her head back down, while keeping from bothering the still sleeping bug Pokémon above hers and Ash's sleeping bags. "And so, with that helping my choice in keeping our friendship a secret- "

"Say no more, Mist." Ash cut in, shaking his head. While Misty felt heat rush up her neck at what Ash called her. "Keeping it a secret is fine with me. But despite what it looks like. Brock will figure it out. He's pretty quick on things, even you can't deny that."

"True, but until he does. It's a secret, okay." Misty said after lowering the blood rushing to her face.

"Sure, well sweet dreams Mist." Having a fight rather to smile to herself or glare at herself for being affected so easy by Ash calling her Mist. Misty simply gave, "You too, night Ash."

And even though there's things running through their heads about what all this meant for them now. Both Misty and –finally- Ash fell into dream world.

-***Flashback;Couple of months ago***-

In the middle of taking in the beautiful bird Pokémon, using its tail to make a rainbow within the sky. Pikachu heard a soft, angelic voice.

Young Bolt,

Pikachu should have been scared to hear a voice within his head. But hearing the name that his parents called him back when he was a simply Pichu. Pikachu didn't fear the voice. Instead listen to it as Dexter's said some Pokémon aren't yet discovered yet.

I know you can't remember yet. But it's nice to see you again. Before he could have asked about that statement, the voice went on. Anyway, we don't have long, so listen well. I'm sure you know of your destiny with the Chosen One, and I'm sure I don't have to tell who they are? No. That much Pikachu knew about the task giving to him by his father, before he had returned to his trainer, leaving Pikachu and his mother by themselves. But unsure how to answer the voice, Pikachu shook its head instead.

No need for that in your sake. I'm reaching you, cause soon you will be contact by one of the 'aurora children' and many of my siblings. Along with the Chosen One. But because you haven't restored your memories or your full potential and probably won't for a while. I'll lend you a bit of my powers to help you sense all of us when we reach you. And with the new abilities that comes with this power. You'll also be able to pick-up on warmhearted people to keep yourself safe as well the Chosen One. However, for to lend you my power and heal you also. You'll be unconscious through the affect. Take care, young one.

By his eyes getting daze, by the power coursing through his body after the voice left, Pikachu shot his chocolate orbs to Ash, who holding Pikachu within his arms, stood on a hill. Fighting the hazing taking over his body, Pikachu reach its neck up, to lick the bottom side of Ash's cheek. Causing the boy to smile fondly down at him as his head rested against Ash's arm.

Regardless he already knew he's destiny is to be the Chosen One's loyal Pokémon and protect him through his tasks. And he been looking forward to it since his parents told him. But losing his mother –after his father left to return to its trainer- to a group of trainers attacking and killing her for protecting him from being catch; an event traumatizes him enough to evolve from a Pichu to a Pikachu. But caused his evolution took a lot out of him. He got caught by a pokeball from a man with ruby color eyes soon later. Leading him –somehow- into Professor Oak's procession and then Ash's. But by then Pikachu hated anything to do with humans, even if he right away knew Ash's the chosen one. In a way he had been still grieving over his mother's death.

However, that's all different now. Pikachu thought remembering how surprise he been when Ash was ready to give his life for him. Still staring up at Ash as the boy started rushing in the direction for help for his Pokémon, unaware of Pikachu's thought as the mouse finally closed his eyes. I will protect you, but not cause you're the Chosen One. But because you are my 'first' friend….

- ***End of Flashback***-

After midnight within the campsite

Sensing the presence calling him. Pikachu's ears went up, but not his body. Reopening his eyes, the mouse took in his surrounding or more like the three closer to him.

Snuggled deep in her sleeping bag was Misty with Butterfree's head resting against the orange-haired's. The sight brought a smile to the mouse's lips and held his smile as his attention fell on his best friend and trainer.

Unlike Misty's silent snoring while in a content sleeping position. Ash, though laying on his back with his hands behind his head, was snoring even loudly than Brock. But Pikachu didn't mind, and from the other two sleeping close. Neither did they. Seeing both his two best 'human' friends and first Pokémon best friend were fine and deep in dream world. Pikachu checked on Brock –who he's learning the teen was a heavy sleeper- before taking one more look around the campsite and everyone there. Knowing it's now or never. Pikachu, using agility, took off for the north.

Having no clue where he's going but following the presence Ho-oh told he will feel. Pikachu re-leashed a quarter of the power he was given. Making him look like a quick flash of light, to a certain Trio of Team Rocket. Neither knowing Pikachu shot pass them. Not even Meowth.

Aware he bypasses his stalkers but paying no attention to them. Pikachu just picked-up more speed, sending a small shockwave in his wake, but not enough to harm anyone.

Soon after reaching the center those months ago. Pikachu figured the voice, and the power gave to him. Was Ho-oh. Power that he taps in, and destroyed the center to get rid of TR. However, he chose not to use that much power again. Mostly since he didn't want any more unwanted attention his and Ash's way. After all they already have those 'jokes' Jessie, James and Meowth following now. One headache was more than Pikachu could take, despite the mouse did enjoy sending them blasting off. That's the reason he didn't let on he wasn't bothered by being charged up by Ash and the windmill from the instruction by Flint. Though he did destroy the windmill, soon after the 'charging session', intently.

Besides all that, thanks to the sensing abilities Ho-oh gave him. He been able to pick up Misty's warm heart the moment he met her –not back at the river-. Resulting him liking her faster than he did with Ash. Making her his second friend. Not to mention he likes how Misty smells. Though the same couldn't be said right away with Brock. But he's getting there.

Halting in his agility as he reached his unknown destination. Pikachu found himself inside a place surrounded by thick forest trees. Trees that's he's sure if he hasn't been using his agility at high speed, he wouldn't have through the sharp, pricks upon the branches to where he's at. Not mentioning the trees were pressed against each other so good, there's no way around them or through them in walking distance.

In center of this place was a generous size lake. Wildflowers filled every grass ground in the area. Although there weren't one Pokémon, excluding himself, here. There were, however, non-Pokémon creatures: animals. Being Pikachu haven't seen many of these creatures much as he seen Pokémon. He would have seen them a bit, then just a glance. But he had a purpose for being here. After-all Ho-oh made him a gifted Pokémon by her. Which is an honor, as well as other Pokémon know this after meeting him. It's a rare honor. Honor he didn't want to lose. Therefore, he focused on why he's here.

Pikachu leaving the tree he's in, walked further in the area, getting closer to the lake. He didn't stop, until he was a sneeze from the lake. Unsure how he knows, the mouse sat, waiting. For what he wasn't sure, mostly now with the presence that led him here was nowhere to be found.

Just as he thought this. All the non-Pokémon creatures froze in their movements, with every sound shut off like a switch been flicked off. Followed by a strong powerful roar rung out while a wind flew in from the sky. It's here Pikachu sense the presence again, but it was coming from the wind waving in the sky.

Then part of the wind form into a solid being, right in front of Pikachu's eyes.

Taking form was a slim, quardruped, blue, mammalian creature with white, diamond-shaped spots. Its face and underside are white as well. Thick, purple manes that resembles the 'aurora borealis' and two white, streamer-like tails that were waving forward.

As the beautiful beast lowered itself to the lake, with its small paws touching the water, causing the lake light-up in the same blue glow the beast was. Pikachu realized the presence was coming from it. This unknown creature was who he's supposed to meet.

With another roar escape its long white snout, as it started walking across the lake, not disrupting the water in its movements, Pikachu found it couldn't translate the beast's roars, like he can with other Pokémon. Making him think this wasn't just any creature or Pokémon at that.

However, for some reason the mouse didn't feel scared of this beast, not even with it heading toward him. But in the beast approaching, Pikachu took that moment to look over to the non-Pokémon creatures in the area. They all were still frozen in the last movement he saw them in before the beast showed up.

Unsure of what to make of this, Pikachu turned its attention back to the beast to find it reached him at the end bank he's on. Wordless, the beast lowered its neck to reach Pikachu. Just as its red eyes locked on with Pikachu's chocolate ones. The large hexagonal cerulean blue crest in its forehead shine enough to blind Pikachu.

But not looking away from it, as if drawled to it, Pikachu, a second later, found himself in area that seem like he was underwater. Causing the mouse to freak out.

"What- How I get underwater?!" However, it wasn't his name leaving his mouth, but human's words. "Huh? How am I speaking human language?"

Simple. You're within my mind and inside here. You speak human speech.

Hearing the strong, but almost wise voice. Pikachu whip its head to the right to see the blue beast standing inside the place –now he knows is the beast's mind- with him. Pikachu was in motion to open his mouth, but the beast spoke instead.

Before we begin of why I call you out here. I'm pleased to see my cousin, Rainbow or as the humans named her, Ho-oh. Has been in-touch with you. And it's great to see you again, Bolt.

"Have we met?" Pikachu asked, getting more lost the longer he's here.

Yes, we have. But unfortunately, you can't remember right now. But will in time. And until then, I'll just tell you the name the humans have named me, and not my real one. I'm known as Suicune. But unlike the history the humans made long ago to keep me and my 'aurora' siblings safe. I was not born from Rainbow or Mew as much Pokémon have in this world nor was, I was born by Arceus. Cause me and many of my siblings are part Pokémon and human-

"Say what?!" Pikachu shouted. "It's not possible? Pokémon can't be part human!" Despite the mouse's reaction, Suicune didn't lose its compose state, not even in his voice.

Thanks to it being lost in the past, among other things. That truth's not known. But it's a fact. However, I didn't come to speak with you about that. In time all will be clear to you once your memories return. But in meantime, there's much I need to speak to you of. Some to do with the task you been given at your birth.

"You mean in protecting As- I mean the Chosen One?"

Yes. But unlike that task. I'm giving you a chance to say yes or no. Meaning you can leave here. Without hearing what I need to say. And go on with your life…

What is it you need to tell me…I'm all ears." With this as Pikachu's definitive answer, he wasn't leaving. Suicune started what he came to tell Pikachu.

Finished, Suicune's crest stop shining, causing Pikachu to be drawled from the beast's mind. Blinking his eyes, as Suicune return for the lake. Pikachu looked around to notice nothing change while he was in Suicune's mind. Meaning the non-Pokémon creatures stay frozen.

(Suicune has time stopped?) In answering Suicune roared a bit. But unlike before, Pikachu could understand the beast. That is thanks to Suicune lending, like Ho-oh, some its powers to him.

(Yes. It's my sister's doing. She did it so I could speak with you without problems. And don't worry. Bolt. You will meet her and many of my siblings and cousins. But now you will be able to speak to them. And as for the gift both Rainbow and I gave you for Ash. Remember it's up to you when he receives it.)

Thinking deep about this and other things Suicune talk to him about, Pikachu nodded yes to the beast. Seeing this Suicune roared again, and just as it reached the center of the lake. The wind came in and begun wrapping around the beast like a blanket.

(Once I leave. Head back as time will start again. But remember this, although I appreciate you agreeing to your new duty. Never let your head led your actions but instead let it be your heart. Also like I said before when Hope appears. You will know who Golden is…and only you. Take care Bolt, it was again great to see you.)

And with those last words, Suicune's form mast into clear air until blend with the wind altogether. With the wind left heading in the north. Leaving Pikachu in the space by the lake alone. But the mouse wasn't alone for long. Soon as Suicune's presence disappeared even in the air.

The non-Pokémon creatures unfroze, moving around like they all haven't been stopped in time. Even the background sounds were back too. Regardless to this, like Suicune told him, Pikachu took off, using his agility, back the way he came. Fortunately, he got back to camp before anybody knew he been gone, mostly since everybody was still asleep.

However, come the next morning, right away Pikachu noticed both Ash and Misty were back to their bickering, as if the moment they shared the other night didn't happen. Which of course Pikachu had mixed feelings about this. Especially due to the new task he was given.
