Sonic X: The Power Outage

Author's Note: Hello everyone. CreativeKitty975 here and this is my third Sonic X fanfiction. I'm really sorry that I haven't posted a new story in so long but life at college kept me so busy during the fall semester. Back in October, I switched internships because the one at the animal shelter just wasn't working out anymore. I found that I wasn't getting enough hours during the week and my supervisor wasn't making enough time to have me come into the office in person. Luckily, I was able to complete a second internship where I gained real experience in an office environment. Completing an internship was one of my requirements I needed to fulfill in order to graduate where I needed to complete a minimum of 140 hours for a required class I was taking. I know, that sounds pretty brutal right? However, I was lucky enough where the hours at the animal shelter counted towards the 140 hours requirement, so I worked really hard at my second internship and completed the 140 hours requirement without any problems.

While I was busy with my second internship, I also needed to keep up with the classwork I was doing for the other four classes I completed during the semester. So, because I was so busy with schoolwork and my internship, I unfortunately couldn't make time to do any writing. However, since I successfully completed my fall semester, now I'm going to manage to do a little bit of writing whenever I have some free time in my busy schedule. This is easier said than done because sometimes I find myself hitting writer's block and at other times, I just get lazy and don't want to focus on writing my stories. But I will make sure I continue to work on my stories so I'm not keeping my fellow readers waiting too long for a new story.

I'm writing this story because I wanted to focus on Tails and his astraphobia and show what I think would happen if the power went out during a thunderstorm. This story is my second Hurt/Comfort story so everyone will be comforting Tails and helping him through the storm until the power returns.

But anyway, that's enough talking from me. Without further ado, let's get onto the story.

Sonic X: The Power Outage

It was a cloudy afternoon in Station Square. At the Thorndyke mansion, everyone was casually enjoying the day. Sonic was out on a run, Amy was in the kitchen baking with Ella, Chris, Tails, Cream and Cheese were in the living room watching tv and Chuck was in the workshop.

Cream and Cheese were watching their favorite tv show where a purple monster dances on the tv and encourages kids to dance along with him. As they were watching Cream and Cheese dance with the tv, Chris couldn't help but glance at the clouds outside and noticed they were looking dark. It looked like some bad weather was going to be coming, but Chris only hoped it wouldn't be a thunderstorm. Chris knew that if a thunderstorm happened, it would be bad for Tails since he has an extreme fear of thunderstorms and gets terrified by the thunder and lightning easily.

Suddenly, a delicious aroma pulled Chris out of his thoughts. One moment later, Ella and Amy entered the living room with each of them holding a pie in their hands.

"Hello everyone," Ella greeted with a warm smile on her face. "Amy and I decided to make everyone an afternoon snack."

"I've been getting really good at cooking in the kitchen." Amy said happily as she and Ella placed the pies down on the table. "Ella taught me how to make apple pie."

"It smells delicious, Amy." Tails said, his mouth starting to water at the tasty smell in front of him.

"I can't wait to try your pie, Miss Amy," Cream said, turning her attention to the yummy snack sitting on the living room table. "I'm sure Ella taught you how to make it taste super yummy."

"Chao, chao." Cheese perked up excitedly.

"I'll go get some plates and a knife and then everyone can try a slice." Ella informed everyone before heading back to the kitchen to get some plates and a knife to cut the pies.

As soon as Ella had left the room, a pitter patter noise could be heard outside. At the sound of the noise, everyone glanced at the windows and noticed that it had started to rain.

"I didn't know it was going to rain today." Amy said as she watched the rain fall.

"I don't like it when it rains. I like the weather better when it's nice and sunny so I can go outside and play." Cream added with a touch of sadness in her voice.

"Chao, chao." Cheese agreed with Cream.

"Do you think… a thunderstorm is coming?" Tails asked his friends nervously.

"I think we should be fine, Tails." Chris replied reassuringly to calm his friend, even though he had no idea if the weather was going to get worse or not. But he didn't want to worry Tails about the weather, so the young boy wanted to try and calm the fox's nerves as much as possible.

"I'm back everyone," Ella spoke up with some plates and a knife in her hands. "Now who's ready to eat some apple pie?"

Hearing Ella mention the pie made everyone temporarily forget about the weather. Everyone in the room immediately perked up and turned their attention to Ella. Setting the plates down, Ella got to work cutting the pies into even slices and then served a slice onto all the plates. Everyone eagerly started eating the pie and were overwhelmed by the delicious taste.

"This is amazing, Amy." Tails complimented the pink hedgehog after taking his first bite of the pie.

"It's so good. Ella really did a great job teaching you how to cook." Cream happily agreed.

"I'm happy everyone likes the pie we made." Amy said, happy that her cooking skills were improving and that her friends were enjoying the yummy snack she helped Ella make.

"If you want to learn how to cook, I'd be happy to teach you, Cream." Ella kindly offered the young rabbit.

"That sounds great, Ella." Cream accepted the offer before taking another bite of the pie slice in front of her.

Everyone was happily enjoying the yummy snack when suddenly…

BOOM! FLASH!

Everyone in the room immediately jumped in fright, not expecting any thunder or lightning. However, Tails let out a loud shriek of fright.

"Tails? Are you okay?" Chris asked in concern, worried about the young fox after hearing his loud scream.

"No…" Tails replied, his voice shaking with fear. The poor fox was terrified because he now knew that a thunderstorm was happening, and due to his astrophobia, Tails was freaking out.

Seeing how Tails reacted to the thunder and lightning made everyone in the living room grow concerned. Everyone knew that Tails can't cope with thunderstorms well due to his fear of thunder and lightning. Now that everyone realized the rain was actually a thunderstorm, they wondered how they would be able to help their fox friend get through the storm.

BOOM! FLASH!

After hearing another boom of thunder, Tails screamed again, jumped a few feet in the air, and started crying in fear.

Everyone immediately felt sympathy for Tails because he was so scared of the storm. But Chris felt the most sympathy for Tails because he considered his friendship with the young fox so strong that he saw Tails as a little brother. Wanting to help his friend, Chris gently approached the fox and wrapped him in a comforting hug.

Upon feeling a pair of arms wrap around him, Tails gazed up through teary eyes and saw Chris trying to comfort him. Tails immediately hugged Chris back and couldn't help but sob into his chest.

"It's okay, Tails," Chris gently soothed the young fox. "You're safe with us. The storm can't hurt you."

As much as Tails appreciated the comfort, Tails couldn't help but feel terrified and upset due to the weather outside. He desperately wanted the thunderstorm to stop.

As she was watching Chris attempt to comfort the scared fox, Amy could tell right away that Tails needed Sonic. She knew that whenever a thunderstorm would happen, Sonic was always there to comfort Tails, and this time was no different.

"Tails," Amy gently began, "Would you like us to get Sonic for you?"

Immediately, Tails nodded his head while whimpering quietly. "Y-Yes, A-Amy. P-Please get Sonic for me."

"Okay. I'm gonna go check the workshop and see if he's returned from his run." The pink hedgehog said.

Just then, Chuck entered the living room to check on how everyone was doing.

"Is everyone alright in here? I noticed that there's a thunderstorm outside and it's pretty bad." Chuck said.

Amy felt some relief that Chuck came to check up on them and decided to ask him if Sonic came back. "Chuck, have you seen Sonic?" she asked.

"Mr. Tails needs Mr. Sonic because the storm is too scary for him to deal with himself." Cream added, worried about her friend and how the storm was affecting him.

"The poor little thing is absolutely terrified." Ella said, voicing her concern for Tails.

Gazing at his young partner, Chuck felt a pang of sympathy seeing Tails crying into his grandson's chest while Chris was gently stroking his back.

"Unfortunately, I haven't seen Sonic. But due to the weather, he should be back any minute now." Chuck said.

Suddenly, there was a faint whooshing sound and Sonic arrived back at the living room. Sonic had started running back to the mansion once he heard the thunder. "I'm back, everyone." Sonic announced his presence to everyone in the room.

"Sonic, thank goodness you're here. Tails needs you right now." Chuck said while gesturing towards where Chris and Tails were.

Glancing over to look at Tails, Sonic felt sympathetic for his friend and immediately raced over to help his little brother. Sonic carefully knelt beside Chris who glanced up and noticed Sonic had finally returned. "Hi, Sonic." Chris greeted his friend with a small smile.

"Hi, Chris." Sonic returned the greeting with a reassuring wink and thumbs up. Turning his attention to Tails, the hedgehog gently placed a hand on his back and started rubbing in soothing circles. "Tails? Are you okay, buddy?" Sonic gently asked.

Hearing a familiar voice, Tails looked up through his teary eyes and saw that his big brother was right beside Chris. Without any hesitation, Tails wrapped his arms around Sonic and started crying into his chest.

"Sonic," Tails sobbed uncontrollably. "I-I'm so glad you're here. The th-thunderstorm is… s-so s-scary."

Sonic could feel his heart break a little when he heard Tails crying. The blue hedgehog always wanted his friends to be happy, so whenever his friends are sad, he does whatever he can to cheer them up again.

"It's okay, Tails." Sonic reassured his little brother. "I'm here for you now."

"We're all here for you, Tails. We'll stay with you until the storm passes." Chuck spoke up, wanting Tails to feel as much protection and comfort as possible.

Feeling some slight comfort from hearing those words, Tails slowly looked up and gazed at all his friends in the living room. "Really? Y-You're all going… to stay with me?"

"Of course we will, Tails." Chris replied. "We know how much you don't like thunderstorms and friends will always help each other."

"Chris is right. We're all right here for you." Amy agreed.

"We want to make sure the storm isn't so scary by staying together." Cream said.

"We would never leave you alone when you're so sad." Ella spoke up in a caring tone.

Tails felt so much love and support from everyone in the living room that his tears started slowing down a little bit. "Th-Thank you e-everyone." Tails said, grateful that he has such nice friends.

Unfortunately, just as Tails was calming down, there was another boom of thunder and flash of lightning, and the room suddenly went dark. Everyone recoiled in fright and Tails couldn't help but scream and cling to Sonic tighter once he noticed the lights were out in the room.

"It's okay, everyone." Chuck was quick to calm everyone down. "It's just a power outage. I'll get us some flashlights and candles so we can see in the dark."

Chuck quickly left the room to locate some flashlights and candles while everyone stayed put in the dark living room.

Not wanting to see Tails so sad, Chris decided to help Tails calm down. Chris placed a gentle hand on the fox's shoulder, making Tails look up at the young boy.

"Don't worry Tails. Everything's gonna be okay. Chuck is going to return with the candles and flashlights and then we'll have some light again." Chris gently soothed his friend.

"Chris is right, buddy. Once Chuck returns, we'll have some lights on so it's not so dark anymore." Sonic said in a calming voice.

Tails gazed at his two friends and knew that they were right, but he was still scared. "I-I'm sorry, g-guys. The reason why I'm… s-so scared is b-because… I'm afraid of the dark." Tails admitted with some hesitance.

Chris and Sonic looked down at Tails with sympathetic looks. "Is this true?" Chris asked the trembling fox.

"Y-Yeah," Tails replied in a shaky voice. "I've been scared of the dark ever since I was 2 years old. It just reminds me of… when I was all alone."

Hearing his little brother sound so sad, Sonic tightened the comforting embrace and started rubbing his back with a gentle hand. "You're not alone anymore, Tails. You have all of us as friends and we're always gonna be here for you."

"Sonic is right. When you're surrounded by friends, you're never alone." Chris nodded his head and agreed with the blue hedgehog.

Looking up at his friends, Tails felt himself calming down a little bit. "Th-Thank you, g-guys." Tails gratefully said.

Suddenly, a bright light could be seen in the darkness, causing everyone in the room to shield their eyes. A moment later, Chuck entered the room holding a flashlight in his hand and a bag with some candles and more flashlights in his other hand.

"I found as many flashlights and candles as I could find." Chuck informed everyone as he got to work lighting some candles so everyone could see in the dark. "But I have some bad news. Apparently, the lightning struck a power line which got knocked down due to the storm. Unfortunately, we're gonna be stuck without power for a while."

Tails felt anxious upon hearing Chuck's announcement because it meant the storm was so severe that the power was out. "Wh-What are we gonna do?" The young fox nervously asked.

"We'll just have to wait for the power line to be fixed and the storm to pass." Chuck replied.

After Chuck was done lighting the candles, the room lit up with a faint glow. But Tails still looked nervous with the power to the mansion gone. Chris couldn't help but remember how frightened he was of the dark when he was a little boy. He overcame his fear of the dark when he was 10 years old, so he could see why Tails was so scared of the dark.

"Hey Tails," Chris began, "Did you know that I had a fear of the dark too?"

Tails turned his attention to Chris, shocked that his friend had the same fear as him. "Really?"

Chris nodded his head. "Whenever I was going to bed when I was little, I found the dark to be so scary that I was always feeling nervous when falling asleep. So, I slept with a nightlight in my room until I learned how to overcome my fear."

The young fox started to feel his nerves relax a bit after hearing Chris talk about his own fear of the dark. "Did you ever overcome your fear of the dark?" he questioned his friend.

"Yeah, I did," Chris answered with a smile. "As I was growing up, Chuck helped me overcome my fear and told me that there's nothing scary about the dark. I finally got over my fear when I was 10 years old."

Hearing what his friend said gave Tails some hope. "Do you… think that I… can overcome my fear of the dark?" he asked.

"I don't think you can, I know you can." Chris replied, with confidence in his voice. "It may take some time, but we can all help you overcome your fear so you're not scared anymore."

"We can all help you, Tails." Sonic added. "Someday, you'll learn how to overcome your fears and then you'll have nothing to be afraid of."

Tails smiled at his friends, now feeling much calmer even though the power was still out. "Thank you for sharing that story, Chris. It kinda helps knowing that someone else used to have the same fear I have. But if you managed to overcome your fear, then I'll be brave and try overcoming mine." Tails said.

"You're welcome, Tails," Chris replied. "I'm glad that I inspired you to be brave while you work on overcoming your fears."

Now that he wasn't so nervous, Tails glanced around the room and then remembered that Chuck said the power wouldn't return for some time. "What do we do now? How are we gonna pass the time until the power returns?" he asked everyone.

Realizing Tails had a point, everyone took a minute to think of what they could do to entertain themselves during the power outage. After thinking for a minute, Chris brightened up with a smile on his face as he had an idea of how he and his friends could pass the time during the storm. "You know what we could do? We have some card games and board games. Maybe we could play one of those to take our minds off the storm." Chris suggested.

"Great idea, Chris." Sonic praised his human friend.

"I like the sound of that." Amy agreed.

"I want to play too." Cream perked up, getting excited when she heard Chris mention that there were games to play.

"Does that sound good, Tails? Would you like to play some games with everyone while we wait for the storm to pass?" Chuck asked his fox friend.

Tails took a moment to think before nodding his head. "Okay. That sounds like a good idea." The two-tailed fox said.

"I'll go get some of the games we have." Ella said before taking a flashlight and turning it on before leaving the living room.

"Don't worry, Tails. This thunderstorm will be over in no time." Chuck reassured the fox.

Tails appreciated the comfort and shared a smile with everyone, knowing that soon everything was going to be fine.

45 Minutes Later…

"Okay Tails, you need to put down a red card or a card with the number 5 or you have to pick up a new card from the card pile." Chris said as he put down his red 5 onto the card pile in the middle of the table.

The young fox examined the cards in his hand before grinning mischievously and putting down a red pick 2 card. "You have to pick up some cards, Sonic."

"Oh, come on. I already have like 10 cards in my hand." Sonic complained before reluctantly picking up two cards from the card pile.

Everyone couldn't help but laugh at the blue hedgehog's misfortune as Sonic did have a lot of cards he was holding. Even though Sonic wasn't happy with his bad luck while playing, he was at least relieved that his little brother was happy and enjoying himself.

It didn't take long for Ella to find some games to play, and she decided to let Tails pick the game everyone would play. Tails carefully examined all the games before he decided to pick a card game called UNO. Right now, Sonic, Tails, Chris, Amy, and Cream were playing an intense round of UNO while Chuck and Ella were watching the friends have fun. So far, Tails had won three games, Chris had won two games, Cream had won one game, and Sonic and Amy hadn't won any games yet.

The gang continued with their game, enjoying each other's company and not even paying attention to the weather outside. Eventually, it was Tails' turn again and as he was placing down one of his cards, he realized he had one card left.

"UNO!" Tails shouted excitedly, alerting everyone who was playing that he was close to winning.

"How are you down to one card already?" Sonic asked.

"I've just been lucky by having the right cards." Tails replied with a grin.

Knowing that Tails was about to win again, everyone tried to place down a card to prevent the young fox from winning. Unfortunately, it was no use as Tails found himself placing down his last card, which was a wild card.

"Yay! I win again!" Tails cheered joyfully with a big smile on his face.

Everyone congratulated Tails as they all placed their cards down and started putting the cards back together into one pile. Compared to how the two-tailed fox was feeling earlier due to the storm, everyone couldn't help but feel relieved seeing Tails so happy again.

"You're on a winning streak, buddy." Sonic remarked. "I haven't even won a single game yet."

"I know. But as long as we're having fun, that's all that matters." Tails replied.

"Do you want to play another round?" Chris asked Tails.

Tails eagerly nodded his head. But before Chris could start dealing the cards, the living room was illuminated in light. Everyone shielded their eyes while adjusting to the sudden brightness and after a moment, realization hit as to why the room was so bright.

Getting up from the couch, Chuck tested the lights with the light switch, briefly turning them off before turning them back on.

"Good news, everyone. The power is back, and it looks like the storm is over." Chuck announced.

Everyone immediately cried out in cheerful joy, grateful that the power had finally returned. Tails ran over to the windows and saw that the sun was shining again, like the storm had never happened.

"Everything's back to normal now." Tails confirmed with a smile.

"That's great to hear. Now who's up for some ice cream in town?" Chuck suggested.

Upon hearing the offer of ice cream, everyone perked up and nodded in agreement. Tails excitedly ran out of the living room, and everyone smiled before following Tails out to Chuck's car. Even though it was hard getting through the thunderstorm and power outage, Tails felt so lucky that his friends helped him through it. Now that everything was okay with the power outage over and the sun shining brightly in the sky, Tails was ready to enjoy some ice cream and the beautiful weather with his friends.

Author's Note: That concludes my third fanfic. I got my inspiration for this story when I experienced a power outage myself during a nasty storm. Luckily, the power wasn't gone for too long and everything returned to normal quickly. I also wanted to have the power go out in the story because it would add to the fear Tails was feeling as the storm was happening.

I wanted Chris to have a past fear of the dark because I was also afraid of the dark when I was young and slept with a nightlight in my bedroom. Luckily, I'm now able to handle the dark better and it doesn't bother me much anymore. I also wanted Chris to share his fear of the dark with Tails to give them a bonding moment and have Chris inspire Tails to overcome his own fears.

The card game I was having everyone play is one of my favorite card games. I would always play UNO with my grandparents whenever I saw them, which was always a lot of fun. I also decided to have everyone play a card game to add a little fun to the story to help balance out the emotional moments.

My next Sonic X fanfic that I plan on writing is Accident on the Ski Slopes, which will be my first chapter fanfic. In the story, Tails is going to experience a terrible accident and will need to go to the hospital for recovery.

If you enjoyed the story, feel free to leave a review. Tell me your thoughts of the story and if there's any constructive criticism, I'm willing to hear it to further improve my writing.
