Author's note: Robin and Marian were animals in the Disney movie Robin Hood, but they are human in this one-shot.
Ben, the son of Belle and Adam, and Rachel Locksley had been best friends since they were kids. They were born on the same day and at the same time, and they had been inseparable ever since.
Rachel's father was Robin Locksley, better known as Robin Hood. Her mother was Marian Locksley. Robin and Marian were Belle and Adam's advisors. They had a room in Belle and Adam's castle, and so did Rachel.
Rachel was the captain of Auradon Prep's archery team, not because her father was the coach, but because she had earned her position by being the best archer on the team. Every member of the team was a girl.
Today was Family Day, an annual event where the students of Auradon Prep could interact with their families.
Ben and some other students were dancing and singing Be Our Guest.
Belle, Adam, Rachel, Marian, and Robin were watching the performance.
At the end of the performance, Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay walked through the garden, passing tables with food on top of them. Mal grabbed a strawberry. Carlos and Jay headed to the chocolate fountain.
Ben walked over to Belle, Adam, Robin, Marian, and Rachel. He shook his father's hand, and his mother kissed his cheek.
Belle complimented Ben. "That was so lovely!"
Ben, Belle, Adam, Rachel, Marian, and Robin prepared to have their picture taken.
"Oh, by the way, I have a new girlfriend." Ben said.
"Oh?" Adam asked.
"Well, I never wanted to say anything, but I always thought that Audrey was a little self-absorbed. A fake smile, kind of a kiss-up." Belle said.
"Do we know your new girlfriend?" Robin asked.
Robin had a noticeable English accent.
Robin had fair skin, blue eyes, a hint of stubble, and short, straight red hair. His body was slender but muscular. He didn't have any scars, tattoos, or birthmarks.
Robin was wearing brown dress shoes with brown laces, an unbuttoned green blazer, and a white long-sleeved dress shirt tucked into green dress pants. A brown leather belt with a gold buckle was around his waist. This was one of the only semi-formal outfits he had. He usually wore casual clothes.
A gold wedding ring was on Robin's left hand.
"On the count of three. One. Two..." The photographer trailed off.
"Well, sort of. Mal!" Ben waved Mal over.
"Three!" The photographer yelled. His camera went off. Ben and Rachel smiled. Belle, Adam, Marian, and Robin looked at each other in shock.
"Mal!" Ben hugged Mal. He took her hand, and they turned to face Belle and Adam. "Mal, I want to introduce you to my parents. This is Mal. From the island. My girlfriend."
Belle tried to get over her shock. "Hi."
Mal smiled. "Hi."
Rachel introduced Mal to her father. "This is my father, Robin Locksley, better known as Robin Hood."
Rachel had a noticeable English accent.
Rachel had fair skin, blue eyes, and a slim build. Her straight red hair was parted in the middle and reached her chest. She didn't have any scars, tattoos, or birthmarks. She was wearing green high-heeled pumps and a green dress with long lace sleeves and a circle skirt that reached her mid-thigh. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft brown eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.
Rachel introduced Mal to her mother. "This is my mother, Marian Locksley."
Marian tried to get over her shock. "Hi."
Marian had a noticeable English accent.
Marian had fair skin, green eyes, and a slim build. Her straight red hair was parted in the middle and reached her chest. She didn't have any scars, tattoos, or birthmarks. She was wearing an unbuttoned pale pink blazer, a sleeveless lavender dress with an a-line skirt that reached her knees, and lavender flats. A small gold chain with a round blue jewel hung low on her chest. A gold wedding ring was on her left hand. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft pink eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.
Mal smiled. "Hi."
"I was thinking Mal could join us for lunch." Ben said.
Adam was hesitant. "Of course. Any friend of Ben and Rachel's..."
"Um...I actually came with my friends." Mal said, gesturing to Evie, Carlos, and Jay.
Belle forced herself to smile. "Well, you should invite them. The more, the merrier."
"Yeah. I'll go grab them." Mal said.
"Uh...How about a game of croquet before lunch?" Adam offered.
Mal smiled. "Of course."
Ben spoke. "Game on."
Adam spoke. "Game on."
Ben and Adam did a fist bump.
As Belle and Adam walked away, she fell backwards, as if she was about to faint, but luckily, he caught her.
"Have you played before?" Ben asked Mal.
"No." Mal said.
Ben, Mal, and Rachel walked to the grass. Leah approached them.
"Hello there." Leah greeted.
Mal smiled. "Hi."
"Have we met before?" Leah asked.
"I don't think so. I'm new. I'm sort of like a transfer student." Mal said.
"Oh, yes." Leah said.
Audrey walked towards Leah. "Grammy."
Leah smiled. "Oh, Audrey! Give Grammy a kiss, dear."
Audrey kissed Leah's cheek.
"Grammy?" Mal asked.
"Sleeping Beauty's mother. Grammy, I don't think you want to be talking to this girl, unless you feel like taking another hundred-year nap." Audrey said.
"What?" Leah asked. She took a closer look at Mal and gasped. "You! How are you here, and how have you stayed so young?"
"Queen Leah, it's okay. Maleficent is still on the island. This is her daughter, Mal." Ben said, putting his hands on Mal's shoulders.
"Don't you remember Ben's proclamation to give the new generation a chance?" Rachel asked.
"A chance to what, Rachel? Destroy us?" Leah asked. She looked at Fairy Godmother. "Come on. You remember, don't you? The poisoned apples and the spells." She looked at Mal. "The spells. My daughter was raised by fairies because of your mother's curse. So, her first words, her first steps...I missed it all!" She looked at the crowd. "You shouldn't trust her."
"I'm so, so..." Mal trailed off.
Chad stood in between Leah and Mal.
"Go away. Stay away from her." Chad told Mal.
"Don't do this, Chad." Ben told Chad.
"What? They were raised by their parents, Ben. What do you think villains teach their kids? Huh? Kindness? Fair play?" Chad asked. "No way, okay? Uh-uh."
Chad pointed at Mal. "You stole another girl's boyfriend."
"Hey, hey!" Ben yelled, dropping his croquet mallet and stepping in front of Mal.
Chad pointed at Jay. "You enjoy hurting people."
Chad pointed at Evie. "And you're nothing but a gold digger and a cheater."
"Mirror, mirror, in my hand, who's the biggest jerk in the land?" Evie asked, holding her mirror out in front of her.
Chad's face appeared in the mirror.
"What? Come on!" Chad yelled, pushing the mirror away.
"Back off, Chad!" Jay yelled, grabbing the collar of Chad's shirt.
Evie sprayed Chad with a sleeping potion. He fell.
"Chad? Chad! Evie did something to Chad!" Audrey yelled.
"Come on, Mal." Evie took Mal by the hand and dragged her away.
"Guys!" Ben yelled as he watched Evie and Mal leave.
"Jay!" Evie yelled.
Jay and Carlos followed Evie.
"I feared something like this would happen." Adam said.
"This isn't their fault!" Ben yelled.
"No, son. It's yours." Adam said.
A few days later
Rachel was on the archery field, aiming her bow at one of the targets, trying to take her mind off of what happened during Family Day.
It shouldn't be on Ben. Audrey and Chad started it.
Rachel let the arrow go, and it landed in the middle of the target. She shot a few more arrows, all landing in the middle of the target, the final one splitting the first one she had shot.
Rachel's bow was wooden.
"I haven't seen you this frustrated in a while, Rachel." Ben said, walking onto the archery field.
"That's because I haven't been this frustrated in a while." Rachel said.
Rachel was wearing brown ankle-length boots, a green long-sleeved shirt, and tan cotton pants with the ends rolled up to her ankles. A brown leather archery glove was on her left hand. The glove did not cover the hand entirely. It only covered her index finger, her middle finger, and her ring finger. A brown leather quiver with a single strap was on her back. The strap was on her right shoulder. Inside of the quiver were several wooden arrows with white feather-looking pieces attached to the sides. Her straight red hair was tied back in a braid. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft brown eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.
"What's on your mind?" Ben asked, sitting down on a bench.
"What happened the other day shouldn't be on you. Audrey and Chad started it." Rachel said.
"Well, it is on me, just like my dad said. It was my decision to bring them here." Ben said.
Rachel put her bow and arrows back in her quiver. "It's still stupid."
"At least you aren't Doug. He can't even talk to them because of Audrey and Chad." Ben said.
"Chad knows that even if I was part of their group, I wouldn't listen to them." Rachel said.
"Just like your dad when he was told he couldn't do what he wanted." Ben said.
"Exactly. His nickname is Robin Hood, after all." Rachel said.
A few days later
Rachel was walking down one of the hallways in Auradon Prep. Someone grabbed her shoulder. She turned around and saw Carlos. She smiled at him.
"What's up, Carlos?" Rachel asked.
Rachel was wearing blue ankle-length boots, beige cotton pants with the ends rolled up to her ankles, a white long-sleeved shirt, and an unzipped blue letterman jacket with a white zipper, white snap buttons, a white stripe on each pocket, white sleeves, two white stripes on the collar, two white stripes on the waistband, and the letters AP emblazoned on the right breast in white letters with gold trim. Her straight red hair was tucked behind her ears. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft brown eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.
"First of all, please tell me you don't hate us." Carlos said.
"Trust me, I don't hate you. Audrey and Chad had that coming." Rachel said.
"There you are, Rachel!" Audrey yelled.
Rachel turned around and saw Audrey walk down the hallway.
"What do you want, Audrey?" Rachel asked.
"I want to know why you're talking to Carlos. He's a villain, and so are Mal, Evie, and Jay." Audrey said.
Rachel's hands clenched into fists.
"They aren't villains. You and Chad are the ones who started all of this. You two just can't seem to get over who their parents are. They can make their own decisions. They are their own person, not their parents. Ben is happy with Mal, and you're just going to have to deal with that." Rachel snapped.
Audrey looked at Rachel in shock.
Rachel walked towards the dorms. Carlos followed her.
"Now I know why Ben tells you to be careful with your temper." Carlos said.
Rachel laughed.
"What did you need, anyway?" Rachel asked.
"Well...Um...You see...I kind of like you." Carlos said, rubbing the back of his neck and not making eye contact with Rachel.
It took a moment for things to register, but when they finally did, Rachel looked at Carlos in shock. She took his hand and gave him a small smile.
"I feel the same way." Rachel said.
Carlos smiled and hugged Rachel. She smiled and buried her face in his chest.
A few days later
Rachel was in her dorm.
Rachel was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with the Auradon Prep crest on the front and blue cotton pants tucked into knee-length white leather boots. Her archery glove was on her right hand. Her straight red hair was tied up in a high ponytail. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft brown eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.
Rachel grabbed her bow, arrows, and quiver and made her way to the archery field. The archery team had practice today.
A few days later
Rachel was in her dorm.
Rachel was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt with the Auradon Prep crest on the front and her last name printed across the back in white letters and blue cotton pants tucked into knee-length white leather boots.
The archery team had a competition today.
The team won the competition. Rachel had been the final competitor.
After what happened at Ben's coronation, Audrey and Chad stopped bugging Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay. Ben and Mal were free to just be themselves. Rachel and Carlos were together almost every day.
After school one day, Ben and Rachel sat on one of the benches in the courtyard.
"I'm glad this didn't come back to bite us." Rachel said.
Rachel was wearing green knee-length boots and a white long-sleeved shirt tucked into a green circle skirt that reached her mid-thigh. Her straight red hair was tucked behind her ears. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft brown eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.
"You and me both." Ben said.
