Chapter 14 The Cursed Island
The guild members were shocked to hear the news.
"Say what? One of the jobs from the second floor is missing?" Wakaba asked.
"But the jobs up there are S-class quests. Anyone know who took off with it?" Macao asked.
"Well its either someone really strong or really stupid!" Laki suggested.
"I know who did it!" Laxus said, he sat on the second floor where the S-class jobs were located. "A little white cat took it."
"It was Carla?" Mirajane asked.
"Why would Carla steal an S-class quest? Natsu is S-class!" Macao said.
"But Natsu left to on a mission with Happy by himself yesterday. He and Wendy had a bit of a fight after he and Erza got back from the Magic Council!" Wakaba said.
"That's right Wendy was mad at Natsu because he never let her do any fighting!" Gray said. "She said she was gonna go on a job with Lucy by herself then stormed out! I can't believe she took an S-class quest!"
Makarov sighed. "Well, which job was it?"
"The one for lifting the curse on… Galuna Island!" Mirajane said dramatically.
"What?" Makarov exclaimed.
"Galuna Island?"
"Are they insane?"
"They're even dumber than we thought!"
The various members were shocked at the reckless actions of their youngest rising star and her feline friend, both of whom they considered smarter than their male teammates.
"That's a serious breach of the rules isn't it Gramps?" Laxus asked Makarov. "Stunt like that can get ya kicked out of the guild am I right?"
"Laxus! I order you to go and retrieve those girls at once!" Makarov said.
Laxus was tempted to say that he had better things to do, but Natsu's S class promotion had restored some of his faith in Fairy Tail. "You know I'd love to Gramps, but I think I'd probably be too rough with them if it ended up needing force. How about you send Gray instead? I think he can handle Natsu's little sister and that blonde bimbo," the lightning mage suggested.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence big guy!" Gray said. "I'll be back soon!"
"Better hurry cause if you fail to bring Wendy back Natsu will give you a major beating!" Laxus called.
Gray yelped and ran at the thought of Natsu's Berserk Brother Mode.

Wendy, Lucy, and Carla arrived in Hargeon.
"Wow feels like just yesterday we met here," Lucy said.
"It was only less than two weeks ago!" Carla pointed out.
"Don't be such a sourpuss Carla!" Lucy said.
"Well let's find a boat," Wendy said. "Good thing I'm not motion sick like big brother! I can't wait to see the look on his face when I return with a job well done!"
They searched but all the sailors refused to take them to Galuna Island.
"Maybe we'll just have to swim there," Wendy wondered.
"No way!" Lucy said.
"Absolutely not!" Carla said. "Two baths a day is enough for me!"
"I found you!" a voice called behind them.
They jumped and turned around to see Gray.
"How'd you find us?" Carla asked, astounded.
"Laxus saw you stealing the S-class quest! You know I always thought you were smarter than Happy but maybe I was wrong!" Gray said pointing at the white cat.
Carla's mouth fell open at the comparison of her to Happy, but she was unable to deny this was not a bright move.
"Well, if you come back with me now you might avoid being kicked out of the guild!" Gray continued.
"Kicked out?" Lucy said.
"No way! I'm gonna prove to my overprotective big brother that I can look after myself!" Wendy told the ice mage.
"You can do that with a less dangerous job!" Gray countered. "Come back home!"
"No!" Wendy said.
"Fine, I tried. Guess we have to do this the hard way! Well, at least I know I can take you on!" Gray said as he put his hands together and summoned ice magic.
Wendy steeled herself and gathered her own wind magic with one hand and drew a dagger with her other. The sailor they had just tried asking to take them to Galuna Island gaped at them.
"Wait, are you wizards? Are you trying to break the curse?" he asked.
They looked at him.
"Yes, that's why we're taking this job!" Lucy said.
"Get in!" he said gesturing to the boat.
"What? No way!" Gray said looking at the man.
As Wendy looked back at him, she saw an opportunity as his eyes were away from her. The sky dragon slayer took a step forward, jumped up to reach his height, and bashed his head with the pommel of her dagger to knock him out! Gray fell on the dock, knocked out. Wendy bent down and tried to lift him, but he was too heavy!
"Why can't I be taller! Hey Carla, could you help me get him in the boat?" she asked.
"We're taking him with us?" Lucy asked in a surprised tone.
"We most certainly can't have him go back and tell the guild," Carla said as she flew down and easily picked up Gray by herself despite the major size difference. "Because you can be certain the next person they send will be Natsu… or worse… Erza!"
The thought of either Natsu's Berserk Brother Mode or Erza's scary angry face caused Lucy to shiver.

They rowed toward the island far away, Gray was tied up. Soon the boatman stopped.
"There's something you should know. I never introduced myself. My name is Bobo. I used to be a citizen of Galuna Island. This is the curse its inhabitants suffer! This vile demon's curse!"
He raised his arm, which had turned from normal looking to like a monster's. The Fairy Tail Wizards gasped at the sight.
"We're almost there," he said.
They looked, and sure enough there was island in sight. The mountain top was glowing!
"What the? Where'd he go?" Lucy asked.
They looked back. Bobo had disappeared! To make matters worse, a huge wave seemed to have taken his place! They screamed as their boat was propelled forward.
"Carla can you grab onto the boat and fly?" Lucy asked.
"I'm not strong enough to lift a boat by myself, it would take at least five exceeds to do that!" the white cat said.
"How do you know you're even called an exceed?" Gray asked. "Wahh!"
They all went under the wave!

Wendy woke up on the beach, the sun was up. That meant she must have slept through the night after being washed ashore. Rubbing the sand out of her face, she looked around. The young girl quickly spotted her friends nearby, along with the boat which was reduced to broken pieces of wood.
"Carla!" she ran over and picked up the white cat.
Carla opened her eyes. "Wendy, are you okay?"
"I'm fine!"
They woke Lucy and Gray.
"Well, we made it to the Island at least," Lucy said, taking out the S-class job request paper. "Guess we have to find the village that made the request now."
"Now hold on!" Gray put up his hand.
"You can't stop us!" Wendy protested.
"Our boats been destroyed," Carla pointed out.
"You're right, that leaves me with one choice. I'm coming with you," Gray said. "What kind of man would I be if I let three girls go off on their own into danger? Besides, Natsu already beat me to S-class. No way I'm letting his little sister and some newbie beat me too! Gramps might be mad but if we manage to pull this off he'll probably be proud of us."
They smiled. Then off to the village it was. By the time they found it, it was night again. In front of the village was a massive wooden wall with a keep out sign. The villagers sure meant it when they said Keep Out.
"Hello! We're here to help you break the curse!" Lucy shouted.
"Who goes there?" a voice called from the top of the wall.
"We're wizards here to help you!" Wendy said.
"Let me see your guild emblems!" the man above said.
They showed their emblems on each of their body parts. Lucy's hand, Carla's back, Wendy's shoulder and Gray's chest. The gate opened and the they were let inside the village where the chief explained the situation. They were all cursed to look like demons, and when the moon came out not just one part of their body, but their whole body turned demonic.
"There's only one way to break this curse, you must destroy the moon!" the village chief said.
This shocked the Fairy Tail wizards.
"That's impossible!" Lucy said. "Our attacks could never reach the moon!"
"Even if we could reach it, I'd never want to destroy such a beautiful thing!" Wendy said. "A lot of children are scared on dark nights, and having moonlight gives them nights where they don't have to be afraid!"
"There's got be something else we can do," Gray said. "Come on, we'll take a look around in the morning. It's been a long day."
They were settled into a guest hut. Gray snored loudly so the three girls had a difficult time falling asleep. In the morning they headed out into the jungle. For a while they found nothing then… it flew at them!
"Nyah!"
Wendy, Lucy, and Carla screamed at the sight. A giant cyan rat in a maids outfit. It chased them through the jungle.
"Carla do something!" Lucy yelled at the white cat.
"Me?"
"Cats eat mice!" Lucy reminded her.
"That's not a mouse!" Carla pointed out. "And its much too big to be scared of a little cat like me!"
"Guess this is up to me! Ice make: Floor!" Gray said.
He created a floor made of ice in the jungle that caused the rat to slip. It fell and hit its head on the trees which also fell, revealing an ancient stone structure of some kind.
"What is this place?" Wendy asked as they walked over.
"It looks like some kind of ancient temple. You think it might have something to do with the curse?" Lucy asked.
"One way to find out," Gray said.
Walking inside, they soon fell through the floor of the temple and ended up in a giant underground cavern where-
"No!" Gray gasped as he beheld the new sight. "Deliora!"
Before them was a monster encased in ice! Even larger than the rat Gray had easily defeated.
"Deliora?" Wendy asked, unfamiliar with the name.
"It's a demon that terrorized another continent. It… it killed my parents," Gray said. "My master… the one who taught to use my Ice Maker Magic… Ur… she gave her life to trap it in ice for good!"
"But what's it doing here?" Lucy asked.
"I don't know, but if they tarnish my master's legacy they'll pay!" Gray vowed.
"Shh!" Wendy shushed as she looked back behind them. "Someone's coming."
Trusting the young dragon slayers instincts the Fairy Tail Wizards hid. Soon an odd pair appeared. A man with a spiky bright blue hair pointing upwards and a bare chested dog like man.
"The voices sound like they are coming from down here," the spiky head said.
"Rrr!" the dog man responded.
Soon they were joined by an even weirder girl.
"Yuka, Tobi, something terrible has happened!"
"What is it Sherry?" the spiky head asked.
"Someone has hurt Angelica!" the weird girl said.
"YOU'RE SAD BECAUSE SOMEONE BEAT UP YOUR STUPID PET RAT!?" the dog man asked while shouting.
"She is not a rat, she is our protector who prowls the jungle to keep us safe, she is love!" the girl said.
"It seems we have intruders!" the spiky head said. "We heard some voice just a little while ago. They must have seen Deliora."
"In that case we cannot allow them to live," Sherry said. "We must find them, and give the gift of eternal rest. We will give them… love!"
"You're talking about death right?" the spiky head asked.
Something clattered nearby.
"What was that?" Sherry asked.
"Over there!" the spiky head said.
They took off, running away from the Fairy Tail Wizards, whom Carla flew up to.
"Nice job, Carla!" Lucy whispered.
"Indeed, I'm quite please with myself!" Carla whispered back.
Gray looked at Deliora. "I don't know how these guys got Deliora here or what they're planning, but if they tarnish my master's legacy, they're gonna regret the day they were born!"
Well here's my adaptation of the first episode of Galuna Island Arc. As I said before I will focus mostly on the key differences on what it would like if Wendy was there. It will probably play out in a similar way to the anime/manga but there will probably be a couple differences there. Hopefully I'll get a chance to show Wendy shining here soon within the next couple of chapters revolving around this arc. I also changed Laxus's character to him having more respect for Fairy Tail cause of Natsu. So he will probably be on Tenrou island from the star. Boy Grimiore Heart might be in for a tougher time! Though we'll see. It has occurred to me to have Laxus actually take over as Fairy Tail's guild master in this fanfic. That would be an interesting difference that we never got to see in the anime I think, and I think post Tenrou Laxus would make a much better Master. Well, we'll just see where I go with this.
