Chapter Fifteen Wendy's Moment
"We'll wait here until the moon comes out," Gray said. "If Deliora is connected to the curse on the island, we'll know for sure."
It was a very boring wait. Lucy, Wendy, and Carla sat around while Gray just stared at Deliora trapped in ice. He thought back to his childhood before he'd joined Fairy Tail, walking through snow in his underwear with Ur as she trained him.
Then Lucy had an idea to pass the time. She drew one of her silver keys and, "Open: Gate of the Harpist. Lyra!"
A spirit resembling a girl slightly older than Wendy with rosy cheeks, a bonnet, dress, and carrying a harp appeared.
"Oooh! It's been way too long Lucy! You only summon me once in a blue moon! Meanie!" the new spirit said with a pout.
"Lyra, your contract says I can only summon you three days a month!" Lucy said.
"Really? I don't remember that," Lyra said. "Well would you like a song?"
And so, a song passed the time.
…
Nightfall came, and sure enough, moonlight shined on Deliora. It was some sort of ceremony! Deciding to take action, the Fairy Tail Wizards climbed to the top of the temple where a group of sorcerers in identity concealing robes stood.
"That's Moondrip!" Lyra said. "It's a ritual of gathering moonlight, they're going to melt the ice around that demon!"
"But the spell of Iced Shell can't be melted!" Gray said.
"Moondrip can melt that ice!" Lyra insisted. "If concentrated it has the power to dispel any magic!"
"No!" Gray shook at that answer. "Those guys don't know how terrifying Deliora can be!"
Suddenly a masked man appeared, he walked up to the weird trio that Gray and the others had seen before.
"Cold Emperor, we have a situation," the woman named Sherry said. "We thought we had intruders but we found no trace of them! I can't even speak of love at a time like this!"
Boy that girl was obsessed with love!
"WERE THERE EVEN INTRUDERS TO BEGIN WITH!?" the dog man shouted.
"Chill Toby!" the spiky head said.
"What is the status of Deliora?" the man in the mask asked.
"That voice," Gray muttered.
"We think tomorrow," Sherry said.
"Perfect," the dog man named Tobi said.
"Excellent," the masked man said. "The time is almost here. As for the intruders you mention, I don't want anyone interfering, go to the village on this island and eliminate everyone there!"
Wendy and Lucy gasped.
"Yes, Cold Emperor!" the three minions said together as they ran in the other direction.
Wendy suddenly got up and shouted, "Stop! We're the intruders! The villagers are innocent!"
The three minions stopped and looked. They saw Wendy's guild mark even at a distance.
"I know those marks, they're from Fairy Tail!" Sherry said. "The villagers must have hired them!"
"Eliminate the village!" the Cold Emperor ordered again. "Anyone who gets in my way must be destroyed!"
"Stop this ceremony now!"
Gray attacked the cultists, his ice attack looming towards them. But it was intercepted by another ice attack by the Cold Emperor.
Gray's eyes widened as he looked at the masked man. "It IS you! Lyon!"
The Cold Emperor removed his mask, revealing a young man with spiky white hair, cold uncaring eyes, and an arrogant smile.
"It's been a long time, Gray," Lyon said.
"You know him?" Carla asked.
"He was my fellow student under Ur," Gray explained. "Lyon why are you doing this? Our master gave her life to trap Deliora! Why would you ever want to free it?"
"Why, to defeat it of course!" Lyon declared. "As a child, I dreamed of surpassing Ur! Of the day when I would face and defeat her in a magic duel! But that was rendered impossible after she died because of you! Now, the only way I can prove I've grown stronger is to do the one thing she couldn't! Defeat Deliora!"
"I can't let you do that! If Deliora is freed there's no way we can stop it!" Gray said.
Lyon turned to his top three minions, and ordered for a final time. "Go wipe out the village!"
"At once Cold Emperor!" Sherry said.
They began to run off.
"They're going after the village!" Wendy said.
"Stop them! I'll deal with him!" Gray said.
"Right!" Lucy said. "Come on Wendy!"
The young girl nodded. "Carla grab Lucy and take her to the village. I'll be right behind you!"
"Are you sure child?" Carla asked.
Wendy nodded. She took a deep breath of air, Carla grabbed Lucy's shoulders and took off. Wendy then surrounded herself in an orb of wind and began flying through the air after them. They both soon arrived back in the village.
"Carla go check on Gray!" Wendy ordered. "He might need help!"
The white cat flew back to the temple. She found Gray in bad shape on the jungle floor.
"What happened?" she asked as she picked him up and flew him back to the village.
"Lyon beat me!" he said.
"Well, Wendy can heal you!" she said.
She got him to the village where Lucy had Virgo out. There was a bunch of straw covering the ground in front of the gate to the village. Carla gently set Gray down on the ground.
"Gray!" Wendy called as she ran over. "Hang on!"
She put her hands on Gray's wounds and immediately got to healing him.
"Those guys sure are taking a long time," Lucy noted.
"Look, something in the sky!" a villager called.
Looking up they saw the giant rat in the maids outfit, Angelica the love obsessed chick had called it? It was flying by spinning its tail, carrying a giant bucket in its claws and the three minions on its back. A bit of what was in the bucket fell toward Lucy who looked at it.
"Jelly?" she wondered aloud as it fell toward her.
"Lucy look out!" Wendy said as she threw a blast of wind at the jelly, diverting it so that it hit a nearby plant which wilted.
The rat soon prepared to dump the contents of the bucket. This would destroy everything in the village!
"Everyone get in the center of the village!" Wendy ordered, drawing her daggers. "Carla get me up there!"
"If you say so child!" Carla said.
She took Wendy and flew her up as the deadly green jelly fell toward them and the villagers screamed. Wendy aimed both her daggers.
"Dragon Slayer Secret Art: Sky-Fire Dragon Blades!"
Each dagger unleashed their power, a tornado lined in fire flew at the jelly, causing the center of it to explode in midair. The rest of the jelly fell, devastating the buildings of the village but the villagers themselves were all unharmed.
"Whoa! That little girl!"
"I don't believe it!"
"She saved us all!"
The villagers cheered from down below as Wendy smiled.
"I did it!"
"Well done child!" Carla said as she brought them down.
"You go girl!" Lucy cheered raising her hand for a high five.
The minions landed on the ground, the village chief shouted at them, but the villagers held him back and began to run off. They took Gray with them as he would still need time to recover even after Wendy healed him.
"You won't get away!" Sherry vowed as she got back on her giant rat. "After them, Angelica!"
The rat spun its tale and flew off. Lucy raised her hands and (without meaning to) grabbed the rats leg. She took off with them. Lucy and Carla watched as they saw this.
"She must be taking a page from Natsu's book there!" Carla said.
The rat soon began to laugh, Lucy had managed to tickle it from where she held onto its leg. Its tail stopped spinning and it fell to the ground.
"Oh no!" Wendy said. "She could be crushed. Carla go check on her!"
"What about you child?" Carla asked.
"I'll deal with those two!" she said looking at the two remaining minions, Yuka and Tobi.
The man with spiky hair going upwards, Yuka chuckled. "Don't make me laugh, you're just a little girl!"
"I'm the sister and student of two Fairy Tail's S-class wizards!" Wendy said. "Don't underestimate me!"
"We used to be guild wizards as well you know!" Yuka said. "We were part of Lamia Scale. We're older than you, you're… what ten?"
"Eleven! I'll be twelve in a few weeks!" Wendy said.
"Well, we have much more experience than you. You have no chance little girl. Surrender, the Cold Emperor doesn't like to spill blood, if you agree to stay out of his way I'll ask him to be merciful," Yuka said.
"Not a chance!" Wendy said. "Fairy Tail teaches us one thing, and that is never to give up no matter the odds!"
"Fine then," Yuka said before turning to the dog man. "Toby, stay back! I can handle this myself!"
"Rrr!" the dog man moaned before stepping off to the side.
Wendy faced Yuka. Carla looked at her, "Be careful child."
The white cat then flew off to help Lucy. The little girl held her daggers at ready. She and Yuka stared into each other, waiting for the moment. Then Wendy attacked first.
"Sky Dragon Roar!"
A burst of wind shot from Wendy's mouth at Yuka who raised his hands.
"Wave!"
A wall of blue energy appeared in front of Yuka, Wendy's attack vanished as it made contact. The dragon slayer gasped.
"Pretty cool huh?" Yuka asked. "My Wave magic nullifies all forms of magic that comes into contact with it. I specialize in fighting other wizards. Perhaps you would reconsider surrendering now?"
Wendy growled. Her magic was useless against him! That took away her main form of fighting but-
"Perhaps you need a little more convincing. Wave!"
More blue energy appeared, this time it flew at Wendy who fired another roar. But it was nullified by the Wave, which went on to hit her and knock her off her feet. Wendy grunted and got up.
"Still want more, huh? Well I think I can manage to take you down with a few more hits, can't guarantee you'll survive them all though!"
Wendy raised her daggers. "Sky-Fire Blades!"
She ran at Yuka with a shout. If her magic would not work she would have to resort to physical attacks. It was a good thing Erza had trained her in weaponry. Yuka put up another wall of the Wave and stepped back as she approached and thrusted out with her daggers. She felt a painful sensation as her arm entered the magical barrier, it was like being zapped by electricity. She screamed in pain.
"Hurts huh? What you get for putting your body inside a magic barrier," Yuka scolded her. "Don't bother trying your daggers or magic in there, it won't work in the Wave!"
"In the Wave huh?" Wendy noted aloud. "How about outside?"
She sent wind from out of her feet and was propelled forward, Yuka's eyes went wide as her daggers pierced him.
"Yuka!" Tobi shouted in concern.
The Wave user collapsed, and the dog man began to tear up.
"YOU LITTLE MONSTER! YOU KILLED HIM!" he shouted.
"He's not dead," Wendy assured him. "My Sky Dragon Slayer magic is able to heal as well as attack! My daggers won't cause fatal damage! The fire one by itself might though."
"Phew!" the dog man let out a breath of relief before snarling. "THAT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT I'M GONNA KICK YOUR LITTLE BUTT!"
He raised his hands, his fingernails turning into claws. "Paralyzing Claws! Guess what they do?" he asked Wendy.
"Paralyze people?" she asked with a face that said it was obvious by the name.
"Wow you're smart!" Tobi said.
This guy obviously wasn't very much so.
"I'm even stronger than Yuka!" Tobi declared. "Just one hit and I'll take you down!"
He charged at her as Wendy yelled, "Raise!"
Her body glowed with magic power as Tobi struck at her with his claws which scratched her shoulder. He grinned, thinking he had won. Only for her to slash him with her daggers. Tobi collapsed like he had expected her to. She smiled at the dog man who was still conscious for the next few seconds.
"Too bad I can cure things like poison and paralysis," she said before looking at them both. "My Raise spell cures and makes me immune to those conditions for a time!
She sheathed her daggers then looked at them both and grinned. "I did it! I beat two wizards by myself! I even saved all the people in this village! Yay!"
She leapt for joy. She'd finally gotten a chance to shine! If only it could have lasted.
…
Little did Wendy know, a certain man in a mask was watching her.
"So that's Salamander's little sister huh? She's extremely strong for her age," Zalty said. "And very cute. I almost feel sorry for having to capture her. She should be the perfect bait to lure Salamander into my trap!"
He leapt out of the bushes at Wendy who heard him coming and looked, her face filled with surprise as he was on her! It was over before she could even throw a spell. Zalty hoisted the unconscious young dragon slayer over his shoulder and began to carry her off toward the temple where Lyon, his pawn, was. As he neared the top of a mountain he looked out to sea, and saw a ship approaching.
"Perfect! That must be Salamander now!"
…
Natsu was ready to puke as always whenever he was on a vehicle. The boat was taking him to Galuna Island.
"Gotta… save Wendy!" he spoke through the pain. "Can't lose her… like I lost Lisanna!"
"I can't believe Carla actually let her go on an S-class quest! I mean we would probably do something like that if we weren't S-class already!" Happy said.
"You're not S-class! Me and Natsu are! Natsu, get ready! We're almost there!" Erza said. "I see the island!"
"Can we please turn back now?" one of the pirates they'd ordered to take them to Galuna asked.
"Dock on the island!" Erza ordered. "Or else!"
"Yes ma'am!" they said.
Authors Notes: Well there's Wendy's chance to shine here, she managed to take down Yuka and Tobi like Natsu did in the anime. But I don't think she would really stand a chance against Zalty/Ultear. At least not at full power. Ah well, damsel in distress time! I figured it would be more realistic for one of them to get in more danger to show how dangerous S-class missions can be.
