Chapter 29 Wendy and Carla vs Natsu (and Happy)
Wendy looked at him in shock. She'd never thought she would have actually had to fight her brother. Natsu looked at her with an equally surprised face. Both dragon slayer siblings were dumbfounded.
"I never thought I'd have to face you big brother!" Wendy said.
"Me neither sis!" Natsu said. "We never had a fight aside from that time before you went to Galuna island."
"Well, I knew this was a possibility," Carla said as she walked forward. "Well, rules are rules. You have to defeat Natsu in order to advance."
"Actually you don't have to defeat him," Happy said. "You just need to show you can hold your own against him. I guess. If Natsu says its okay then you can go ahead."
"Alright then, I'll try not to hurt ya too much little sis!" Natsu said with a grin.
Wendy assumed a fighting stance with her palms open. She couldn't rely on her daggers in this situation as Natsu was her enemy right now and she didn't want to make him stronger. The Sky and Fire Dragon Slayers faced each other as Carla walked toward Happy with a smile that kind of crept him out.
"Uh… Carla?" Happy asked as she approached him nervously.
"Since they're fighting I suppose we might as well too."
"Carla! I don't want to hurt you!" Happy panicked.
"Oh, I doubt you could you silly tomcat! Not since I learned how to do this!" she said as she transformed.
She was now in her humanoid tiger form with the striped dress covering. Happy shook in fear at the sight of his crush who was now much less cute and much more scary.
"Whoa!" Natsu said as he looked and saw Carla's new battle form.
"Rarrr!" Carla roared.
"Ahh!" Happy screamed and ran back the way he'd come, only to crash into a magical barrier. It zapped him and sent him flying back and he raised a white flag. "First round knockout!"
"Scared little Happy," Carla giggled.
"Uh… I'm so useless," Happy groaned.
"Now that leaves you Natsu," Carla said as she extended her claws.
"Uh-oh!" Natsu said.
"Try not to claw him up too badly Carla!" Wendy said.
"I doubt I really could," Carla said. "I can't maintain this for much more than a couple minutes at best right now. Oh dear, better hurry up then!"
She leapt at Natsu, hoping to do at least some damage before her time was up and she returned to her less lethal normal form. She swiped at Natsu with her massive paws, but even though she was now bigger than him she lacked proper training in hand to hand combat. Even so, her claws were sharp and Natsu had to dodge them instead of block to avoid getting scratched.
"Never thought I'd have to use this on you Carla!" Natsu said. "Fire Dragon: Iron Fist!"
His fist lit in flame and hit Carla in the face. She rolled backwards and hit the wall of the cavern they were then turned back to her ordinary cat form in a puff of smoke.
"Carla!" Wendy screamed.
"Sorry Wendy!" Carla groaned.
Wendy felt tears make their way out of her eyes. Then her sadness turned to anger as she looked at her brother.
"No one hurts Carla! Not even you!" she screamed. "Sky Dragon: Roar!"
"Fire Dragon: Roar!"
The two dragon roars collided in midair. The fire quickly began to push back the wind, then Wendy was knocked off her feat, her clothes singed. Natsu had been holding back there to avoid burning her to a crisp while she had given it her all. Wendy grunted, but pushed herself back to her feet.
"You're gonna have to do better than that Wendy!" Natsu said.
She snarled. "I will become S-class!"
She charged at him and leapt into the air.
"Sky dragon talon!"
She made an air powered kick at Natsu that he blocked, though the air still threw him back a few steps. She landed on her feet and saw he was open now for another.
"Wing attack!"
She spun her arms in the air, creating two lines of wind that went off her arms. With Natsu still recovering from her last attack he was thrown off his feet and spun around a top.
"Ah! I'm gonna be sick!" he said.
Wendy smiled. Things had looked pretty bad for her before, now she looked like she was winning.
Natsu recovered and looked at his sister. "Not bad sis. If you can somehow make it through this attack, I'll let you go through."
Wendy prepared herself. Natsu gather flames in both hands and put them together, and she knew what to expect. His most powerful attack. She would have to counter with her own as well. She gathered wind in each hand and put them together.
"Fire Dragon: Brilliant Flame!"
"Sky dragon: Great Wind!"
A massive fireball shot from Natsu's hands while a massive burst of wind shot from Wendy's. Like with their roars, they collided. A large amount of smoke appeared as both attacks dissipated. Then the smoke cleared and Wendy lay on the ground defeated, she was conscious but unable to move while Natsu stood over her panting.
"Well… you're strong sis. You might have made it if I'd let you go on ahead," Natsu said. "But I don't let anyone go ahead unless they actually beat me."
Wendy felt more tears come out of her eyes.
"I lose," she said.
"Maybe so," Natsu said as he walked over and scooped her up in his arms. "But you're as good as an S-class in my book."
Happy got up and took Carla, settling her on Wendy's stomach so she could be healed while he settled on Natsu's shoulder as the Fire Dragon Slayer carried them all to the camp.
Well Wendy loses. I was thinking of having her impress Natsu enough to pass but there wouldn't be much point since the trials would be canceled after the Grimiore Heart attack and I liked the idea of him carrying her off. Ah well, Lucy and Lisanna next.
