Chapter 37 Mest and Azuma
Everyone in the guild on the island saw the light in the sky.
"The emergency flare!" Laxus said as he saw it at the base camp.
"What, enemy attack? Who dares disturb our sacred grounds?" Makrov wondered.
They were now at Master Mavis's grave, having gone there after checking on camp.
"Looks like we'll have to check it out!" Laxus said as he vanished in a flash of lightning.

Freed flew Gajeel to the camp where Erza and Mirajane were. They had been busy trying to make the stew for dinner after the grave finding trial was over. Juvia had gone off looking for Gray, getting the crazy idea that he would dump Loke and choose her as a new partner. The two S-class woman were surprised when the emergency flare appeared, and concerned when Freed touched down with the severely injured Gajeel.
"What happened?" Erza asked.
"Lucy and Levy said they were attacked by members of Grimiore Heart!" Freed explained.
"What?" Mirajane exclaimed.
"Mira stay here! I'll deal with this!" Erza said. "Please tend to Gajeel!"
"Right!" Mirajane said as she ran to get the first aid kit.

Cana also saw the emergency flare.
"The emergency flare! That means we have intruders!" she said. "Dammit! Why did this have to happen now!"
"What do we do?" Pantherlily said. "If there are intruders that should take priority right?"
Cana grit her teeth. "I've lost too many times to quit now! I'm continuing the trial!"
"You're abandoning your friends?" Lily looked at her in surprise.
"They can probably handle themselves, its not like there's a whole army coming is there?" Cana asked.

But sure enough on Grimiore Heart's airship, Hades sat on his throne with his seven kin of Purgatory, allies from the Tartarus guild, and over a hundred soldiers.
"You all know the mission, find Zeref and we will free him with the keys," Hades said. "Bring him here and wipe out any Fairies."
"Alright! Those fairies will burn!" Zancrow, the psychotic looking blonde man said with a evil cackle.
"I'll blow them to smithereens!" Jackal said.
"I bet I'll get more kills than you!" Zancrow challenged. "I'll burn the whole island down with my divine flames!"
"We'll see about that. You're only a human! God Slayer though you may be you'll never have the strength to defeat a demon!" Jackal retorted.
The two dark wizards glared each other down, then the helmed woman Kyouka put herself between them.
"Enough. Jackal, it matters not who kills more. As long as we return to Zeref!" she said.
"Right," the animal like man said turning away from Zancrow.
"We're making our final approach," Hades said. "Asuma is already there on the island."

Erza had Freed take her to Lucy and Levy. She was now conducting an interrogation on the goat man, Yomazu as Bickslow, Lucy, and Levy watched.
"Alright, answer me! What exactly does Grimiore Heart want with us!"
"Answering won't do me any good!" he said defiantly.
Only to receive a hard hit on the head. That got him to comply.
"We seek the power of the legendary black wizard… Zeref! He is here on the island!"
Erza and the others all froze.
"That's… impossible!" Erza said.
"Zeref? But he's lived hundreds of years ago," Lucy said.
"Four hundred," Yomazu said.
"Zeref is long dead!" Erza declared.
Her memory flashed back to the tower of Heaven. That's who Jellal was trying to revive. The mad face of her childhood friend and crush came back into her mind as he spoke reviving Zeref.
"No, he never died!" Yomazu said. "Zeref is immortal, he hides on this island! We of Grimiore Heart will find him, and bring about a great age of darkness!"
"You're insane!" Erza said. "This is our guilds sacred grounds and no evil will defile it!"
"Believe what you want but Zeref is here!" Yomazu said. "The Seven Kin of Purgatory are on their way. One of them is already on this island in fact!"
"There's one here already?" Lucy shivered.

Mest saw the signal in the sky, but he didn't know what it meant. For he was not truly a member of Fairy Tail. He was a spy… of the magic council. The magical government was getting tired of Fairy Tail's antics. They'd caused countless amounts of property damage across Fiore, and during a recent conflict had defend the criminal Jellal. The Chairman Gran Doma had him gathering information to disband Fairy Tail. He was here on the sacred island to try and discover their secrets. What better place to find info then their sacred grounds. If he succeeded, he'd be getting a promotion for sure.
He could even sense him. Zeref the Black wizard was here on the island. But there was something else as well…
A blast came at Mest, who teleported away out of range. It was a good thing no one else was with him, he probably would have only been able to save one person. He reappeared a short distance from where he'd been a moment ago. He looked around and sensed his attacker.
"Come out!" he shouted.
"Impressive. Your senses are quite sharp." A voice came from a tree.
A figure seemingly made of wood appeared from it.
"Who are you?" Mest asked.
"The names Azuma," the figure said. "I'm a member of Grimoire Heart's Seven Kin of Purgatory!"
"Well this is my lucky day," Mest said. "I infiltrated Fairy Tail hoping to gather dirt for the Magic Council. I never thought that I'd be getting the chance to turn in Grimiore Heart and Zeref as well! Lucky me!"
"Oh… you're a spy are you?" Azuma asked. "Well spy or not the Magic Council is just as much an enemy of mine as Fairy Tail! Tell me, are those ships out there yours?"
Mest shuddered, he could sense the Magic Council Warships in the water just below them. If they could fire upon Grimoire Hearts Airship it would be over.
"They look so fragile!" Azuma stated.
Mest gasped as he realized the threat… which an instant was carried out. Blasts shot at the ships.
"No!" Mest shouted.
Azuma had now emerged from the tree and his human form was fully visible. He was a muscular man in a green shirt with a pair of near circular earrings and brown hair that hung up.
"If you're done talking, I'd like to get to the work of destroying everyone here!" the dark wizard said. "Right now!"
"Well afraid I can't allow that to happen!" Mest said. "Later."
And he teleported away, leaving an annoyed Azuma.
"Hmm… I hope this guild has more interesting opponents than spies that run away!"
Well, its different with Mest not having Wendy as a partner. He's off alone when Azuma appears since Lily and Carla are helping Cana and Wendy, and Lisanna left him to spend time with Natsu. So Mest was on his own so nothing to stop him from fleeing. Ah well, next time it feature Makarov. I wasn't sure I would get a chapter down this week. My cat died just yesterday, but the pain didn't last for too long.
